I love escape rooms and this one was definitely fun! We did the Lair of Lunacy room which was so fun! The guy checking us in said it was his favorite, so we got lucky getting this room so last minute. The staff was so attentive and was ready whenever we needed clues! We also loved how innovative the room was with the different tricks we had to use to figure out the clues! I loved that it wasn't just a bunch of locks but there were some riddles and other things needed to figure out the clues! I would love to come back here and try another room! I like these rooms because they are smaller and can accommodate groups as small as 3! They even had some availability on a busy Friday night which was refreshing. Other escape rooms where saying we had to pay for 4 people minimum even if we didn't have that many people. The staff was very enthusiastic and nice. They explained things completely and made sure we were ready before starting. We tried the mad scientists- "Find the Antidote" room and it was very achievable with only 3 people. As it was happening, the clues seemed hard but then after the fact, it really wasn't that bad. Make sure you are completely doing each lock because I had team members who tried locks and it wouldn't work but when I tried the same thing, it worked for me. They do require masks in the rooms and they sanitize them well after each group. read more

I cannot in good conscience recommend The Escape Key - Provo. We went for my son's birthday and it was a disaster. From being overcharged for the experience, starting the game 45 mins late, the END OF THE GAME MALFUNCTIONING, adamant that they don't give refunds, to the final insult of it taking 2 weeks to respond. It was so disappointing to work for an hour on the ending of the game and in the last 5 minutes, the game doesn't work! If you want to have a fun, family experience with the game working properly DO NOT GO to The Escape Key - Provo. You will be very disappointed! The manager told me "If you enter the room you don't get a refund" no matter your experience. 0 out of 10 recommend. read more

My little family really enjoys escape rooms-we've probably done half a dozen to date. This one was a lot of fun and well thought out. We were given some back story and basic instructions prior to starting the game. We were not told to leave a second door alone-we found that it was unlocked and led us out of the room. It was not part of the game, but probably unlocked due to fire code. The clues were tricky (we did the Infiltrated room) but not so difficult that we gave up. Our group consisted of three adults, a 14 year old boy and 12 year old girl. The kids were able to contribute quite a bit and help their parents figure things out. I came her with my son as I read on the site that under 6 were not allowed. However the staff let me know that sine there were no other bookings on the room it would be ok to bring my 4 year old, so we ended up going as a full family of 4. We did the lair, and had tons of fun. Parts are very dark which was a bit scary for the kids, but nothing that worried me as a parent. The room was amazing. Puzzles were fun, challenging, but not frustrating. The staff are amazing and paced the clues perfect for our family. Highly recommended and we plan to come back for another room. read more

We did the CSI Provo room. Maybe other rooms are better but I was very disappointed with this one. First of all, the room was really small--way too small for 8 people. Second of all--the instructions were not very clear. There should be extremely clear instructions on what we're looking for. Most frustrating--the clues made absolutely no sense. There was no good order or a specific place to begin. We made almost no progress on our own without help from the front desk. At the end, we had all clues out and there was no good process of elimination. The front desk practically had to tell us who the killer was. Lastly--we blew ourselves up with 20 minutes to go in our game time and the front desk told us our game was up. I'm sorry, but we paid $35 per person ($175 total) for 60 minutes, and now they were cutting us out of a third of our time? That's bordering on dishonest and unethical. Luckily we convinced her to reset the bomb (which she should have offered on her own) but I was really disappointed. We wont be going here again. I wouldn't recommend it, at least not the CSI Provo room. read more

We have a young family with three kids under six years old and I called around to several places asking that if I booked out the room if they would let me bring my own kids and none of them would let us except for this place. My own kids are very mature for their age and we knew that they would be OK if somebody would just give us a chance. They had a blast!!!! This is the second time we have escaped at The Escape Key. The first time was at the Salt Lake location and loved it so much we decided to make it a tradition to go yearly! And boy oh boy is it worth the time! The rooms are pre-"graded" for difficulty so that helps when it comes to deciding which mystery to tackle. The set up is well taken care of and you can tell the ownership is passionate about your group having the best experience. Clues can be provided if you are stuck via a tv in the room but for the most part there doesn't feel like a ton of down time as you try to figure out which clue to move to next. We have done: The Sherlock room Provo CSI It's one of the best ways you could use of an hour of your time. read more

We were a group of adults and none if us had been to an escape room before, so we didn't know what to do or expect. Despite the fact that we have many graduate degrees between us, this was quite challenging--(tho I bet a teenager could do it faster and better)! We left exhausted and laughing! Then we went to eat up the road at The Purple Turtle and to talk about what a riot we had! Next time (and there WILL be a next time!) we will know better what kind of things to do and look for. I HIGHLY recommend The Escape Key! (...and then going to The Purple Turtle!). The only suggestions I would make to the management is that some things were falling apart and didn't work. This is understandable, since the room gets pretty torn-up figuring-out clues, but some things were a mess and should be fixed and made sturdy, so they work. And the fish tank was disgusting! This room relays too much on language... Most of the rooms I completed around the world don't. For a non-English speaker, this was VERY disappointing (as it doesn't mention this in the site). We were 4 people + 2 others that were added to us in the CSI-SLC Room, and 3 of us 4 are non English speakers. 2 of us just gave up trying at the start since they didn't understand most of it. I booked with this company about a month ago after carefully checking reviews of numerous escape rooms. I also received an emailed confirmation the day of with parking instructions, etc. we packed up 4 teens and drove from Roy to slc to eat and do this fun activity to ring in our 2020. No one was at the location. We called and spoke to melody, who explained the manager of that location decided to take two days off and not check to see if people had booked. She was nice, but our New Year's Eve was ruined. Nothing was offered other than to refund o money. My boyfriend had to ask if we could get a discount if we chose to book again through them. She said yes, but why would I want to choose a company that runs their business this way? Thanks for ruining our new year's eve plans with my teenagers. read more

I do realize though that the rooms have to be smaller because of the constrictions of the old office building that it was. We got out in 40 minutes. We did "Infiltrated" as a family and had a lot of fun! It started a little slow, and parts were very simple, while other puzzles were a bit convoluted. We ended up over thinking some things and missing other obvious clues. But had a great time puzzling it out together, and escaped with 1 second left! We have done another escape room previously in LA, and while this one wasn't at the same level of puzzle or prop quality, it was about as much fun and a place we'll go to again. read more

I got a good deal off Groupon for booking, but for the experience we had I would have preferred paying full price at a better escape room. Our family has recently been watching the series Psych through VidAngel, and our kids loved this opportunity to play Shawn Spencer as we observed clues throughout the room and began to piece them together enough to escape in the allotted hour. At first we didn't seem to be getting anywhere with the bits of information we collected, which made it all the more exciting when we began unlocking more and more clues that eventually led us to solve the mystery! We felt we had really conquered a great challenge. We did the CSI room with the six of us - 4 kids ages 7-16, 2 adults. One thing we like about Escape Key rooms is that there are lots of padlocks to open, with either keys or codes, so everyone gets to take a turn unlocking one. The use of blacklight flashlights is a great way to involve even the youngest in the family. Encouraging the use of our phones was a first for us, in an escape room situation, and we thought the inclusion of technology to help us gain the needed information was especially clever. The employees were helpful, giving clues as we needed, but not too soon that we didn't have time to work out most things on our own. Thanks for another great time, Escape Key! read more

Seriously so much fun!! Went with three other couples so there were 8 of us in the most difficult room. We made it out with 4 and a half minutes to spare. Great intro story, challenging clues, set up well, and nicely planned out. Liked it so much I sent my 5 kids to it a couple weeks later. A big hit for them also! Li was an excellent and accommodating host. I have played many rooms (over 60) and contacted Li to ask what room to play and to allow us to play even though only 3 had booked given my experience. He proactively asked if I'd prefer to play a harder room, and then switched me over. He was also a helpful host during the very clever room (Infiltration) itself.
