I tagged along with some friends to visit this store, and honestly didn't expect to find anything. But I left with two items, a CD and a DVD, that I was excited to find. They have a pretty extensive selection of CDs, DVDs, albums, video games, and memorabilia at a wide range of price points. I especially enjoyed browsing the large selection of TV DVD box sets. Prices seem pretty good for the condition of the used items. The CD I purchased was $10, which at first glance seemed kind of high, but a quick search on Amazon showed me it was a pretty good deal. They also have a rewards program that's free to sign up for and can earn you a discount on future purchases. The employees are very friendly and helpful, and seem very knowledgeable about the products. The only not so great thing about shopping the store is that the majority of the products are kept in locked cases, apparently as much for organizational purposes as to deter theft according to an employee I overheard discussing it with another customer. The employees are happy to unlock whatever cases you need and patiently give you the time to read the packaging and decide if you want to purchase an item or not, but it can make you feel rushed to make a decision once the case is unlocked and they're waiting for you to decide before they re-lock it. And if the store is busy, you might have to wait a bit for an employee to be free and able to help you. Overall though, a fun place to browse and maybe pick up something to add to your media collection. read more

Coolest Gen Z Staff on Planet Earth These are seriously the nicest people in retail I have met in North Pittsburgh. You can even call in for game availability and pricing (new or used) and they will answer right away and get it. Traded in my whole Xbox One library and console to move to PS5 and got what I think was fair in 2023. I buy all my games on disc so I can resell after beating them and this keeps my gaming budget low and fun. Great place. read more

I went in to sell some dvd and cd's. I was offered a pittens of what they sell for there, Maybe 10 cents on the dollar for what they sell it for used????? I had a few dvd's that sell used in excellent condition on ebay for around $12-$15 they offered me $1 each. most of the other dvd's they offered 25-50 cents some more. They have a pretty good selection of used dvd's cd'c and records and blu-ray. I think the prices are a bit high overall. I dont think I would ever buy anything here unless I was desperate and could not find it any where else. The sales staff is friendly and very helpful. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST! the staff are not helpful at all! Way overpriced but they are willing to haggle over price on less popular stuff... the first time I came into this location I bought over $400 dollars worth of games and posters and systems and they forgot to put a $50 mega man 4 nes game in the bag the next day I went back and told them, they told me that I must have lost it or missed placed it and it wasn't in there possession after Debating with them for over 45 minutes I look back and see it laying on the back counter behind the register so I pointed it out to them after that they asked me if I had my receipt without apologizing they checked my receipt and sent me on my way I will never return to this location after being treated like I was trying to rip them off! read more

Terrible customer service and horrible (I mean absolutely horrible) trade in values on anything you bring them regardless of how good the condition is or how rare the item may be. The only reason to ever step foot into one of these stores is if you are looking for a specific older game/movie/cd that you have failed to find anywhere else. It's a real shame. This used to be one of my favorite places to buy sell and trade. They are crooks. Absolute CROOKS! Why ask for someone's ID for trade ins when you only offer stolen merchandise rate values in return!? This place was a life saver the other day for me. I was in search for a DVD that has not been in stores for a pretty long time. I had stopped at a spot in the city with no luck. They looked in their system and found one copy, which was here. Never knowing that there was a store in this area, I basically drove past the spot and had to backtrack. Once inside, I felt claustrophobic. It's tiny, I just wanted to get to the counter to retrieve my item, but I had to traverse the whole store to reach it. Most times there is room in front of the register to form a line, but not here. I finally made it to the counter and told them I was there to pick up an item, they were about to make me wait. There was one employee behind the counter and he was going to make me wait for his coworker. At that point, I was getting irritated. I just wanted to pay and leave at that point. Instead of putting my purchase in a bag with the receipt like any other establishment, I was asked after I stood there for a minute if I wanted a bag. I just took my item, out in the rain, and had to run to my car. There is a probably a reason as to why I never knew this place was here. read more

I'm not a frequent customer here, but for good reason. Want to sell/trade some items? Well, they typically offer about 10% of their selling price. So don't expect much there. If you have junk laying around that you just want a couple bucks for, that's fine, otherwise stick to Amazon trade-ins or eBay. Want to buy something? 9 times out of 10 you'll get a better price online. Want something in a pinch and not have to wait for shipping? Well, I guess this is your place. The staff is nice at most of these locations, but because of the nature of everything being locked up they'll ask of you need anything LITERALLY every 2-3 minutes. I was treated like garbage at this store. I am Hani capped and do not walk well I was told that it would take the 15/2o minutes to go trough my dvds. I waited out in my car for 25 . I came back in and he was still working on it . I stood there at the counter to wait . I wasnt in the way I wasnt impatient I was just leaning on the counter as there is NOWHERE to sit and wait, After a few minutes another employees approached me and said I COULD not stand there and wait. Love this Record Exchange! (I love most of the Record Exchanges, but this one is my favorite.) The staff is really helpful here, and they have a good selection of albums and DVDs, and everyone is willing to go the extra mile for you to get something in stock that you want. The only con is that the parking lot is a bit small, and it empties right out onto McKnight Road, so you may be stuck sitting in your car for a few minutes before you can get back on the road (but at least you've got a new album to listen to while you wait!). I love it because it's right on the way from my house to the gym, and no one ever gives me crap for showing up in my gym clothes to buy David Bowie albums. Yay Record Exchange. read more

My husband and I have been extremely disappointed the last few times we've come into the store. This used to be our go to place for movies and games. However, the customer service has really dropped and the kids that work at this store seem to be more interested in reorganizing the stacks of media than they do the customers. Tonight, we needed to stop out there to replace my 8-year old son's Nintendo DS. We called the store to A) make sure they had some and B) to let them know that we would be coming right before the store closed at 7. The man my husband talked to assured us that would be fine and that they could help us in a hurry. When we got to the store, it was 6:58. I jumped out and tried the door. Locked. The young girl with the septum piercing never looked up at me. When my husband knocked on the door and motioned to her and the other guy inside that he was the one who called, they shook their heads at him and looked back down at, what I assume was, their evening paperwork. I like a good value, I really do. But customer service will ALWAYS make the difference to me. We wound up finding a DS at Half Price Books up the street. The gentleman there took his time with us and was kind enough to make sure that he gave us a stylus to go with it. If you can find what you're looking for at Half Price Books, I would suggest you go there instead. They still value their customers, which means everything to me. In my opinion, this Exchange location is the best for used DVDs. The parking lot is not that big and the location on McKnight Road is not ideal. But it is rare for me to not find what I'm looking for when I stop by. (All-American Girl starring Margaret Cho? I'll take it!) They have a wide selection of movies and TV shows both new and old. Their prices on new items are comparable while the prices on used items are very reasonable to unbelievably low. (I often use my phone to compare prices with amazon.com or Best Buy but usually end up buying items in store.) The staff is always friendly and willing to offer assistance. I was super overwhelmed when I walked in here. I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting wall to wall, floor to ceiling, games, DVD, ect. Seriously they have SO MUCH STUFF. I didn't even know where to start! I didn't realize at first that each section is labeled, so I was walking around like a lost person looking for the PS3 section which I found after looking in the wrong area for about 5 minutes. Seriously, just pay attention to the labels and you will be ok! The new games and systems are in the front to the right when you walk in. They have a huge selection of used games, which I picked a few for a great price! I also needed a new controller so I opted for a new one, since I think it was only $20 more for a fresh controller. I wish the used price was less, but it is what it is. It was pretty busy in there when I went so there was lost of staff to help and to ring out. Just wish they have labeled where everything was at in a bigger/brighter way and the layout could be better. The PS2 games werent beside the PS3 games which is what had me most confused. Seriously though, you can spend all day just going though the thousands of options they have! read more

This is a great place for DVD's and games for gaming systems. They have an unbelievably large selection for the size of the store. The prices are good and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a specific item it's best to ask because it can be difficult to find things with so many to choose from. The parking is a little crowded, but I usually go there on Black Friday when I'm out shopping for Christmas gifts so I can't really complain. It's definitely worth the trip. read more

Overwhelming would be one word to describe the CD selection at this store. of course that's a good thing if you're shopping for used CD's. they also have a ton of DVD's and a very small selection vinyl that is VERY reasonably priced. I've only visited the store three times since I'm not from Pittsburgh but it's definitely worth stopping in if you're shopping for CD's or DVD's the used stuff is reasonably priced. If it's vinyl you're after I don't think I would go out of your way, well let me rephrase that, if you're okay with a small selection then by all means go out of your way.
