A newish restaurant from the Davy's chain.
A rather small enterance (opposite 1 Under Lime) gives way to a sweeping staircase which takes you under the insurance offices sprawled around the area.
An old 'clock in' machine dings its bell and you are handed your docket. No idea why, unless its to let the receptionist downstairs know that some 'suits' are swaggering downstairs for some nosh.
A limited menu, but its nice not to have to faff about, printed upon FT colour pages leads you from breakfast, apps, starters , mains, puds, cheese etc.
The Crab to start is very good even if a bit pricey. Massive 600g steaks can follow, but so can a very nice liver with mash. A dish to everyones taste is there, you just need to find it.
A novel 'Buck Rabbit' is a nice savory finish to an extended lunch.
Extended wine list is very nice, but I wont be trying the Steam Beer again.
Service can be an issue, esspecially when they all pile out of the door at 3:30.
Seperate private dinning can be arranged but all it means is that they pull a curtain .
50 quid a head including wine is a bit steep but if you slap it on expenses who cares.
Certainly one to re-attend. read more
