Came here for a quick dinner and had a very meh experience. We chose to eat outside as indoors was a level of thumping music and noise that made it impossible to have a conversation. We asked upon arrival if we could have the heat lamps turned on to help with the cold outside, but that never happened. Service was very sporadic and we could never get the same person twice so you kept having to repeat your requests - the only time I got prompt service was as soon as they put down the food they immediately asked for payment. :) We ordered the fish & chips and the bangers & mash and a daily soup. Asking a question of what the daily soup was required the server to disappear to find the answer, and only returned with half an answer. Both of the main dishes were fiiiine, but given the fact that they gave us the food but no utensils or napkins and took a long while to get those to us the food had gone pretty cold by then. Honestly, this entire experience could have been a lot better with better service all around. read more

Such a welcoming atmosphere, they had an amazing artist perform some classics which was amazing to watch as I was there by myself. The Sunday roast was so so good and the portions for the chicken was so big I struggled to finish it, the roast was so well balance with the veg and was exactly what I needed after a long week. read more

Came for hen do bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon. For £40 you have a choice of brunch meal and two hours "unlimited" brunch drinknof choice : Bloody Mary, mimosa, prosecco or espresso martini. I've been to many a bottomless brunch where every effort is made to keep the glasses full and bottles coming. This was not one of them We seemed to have a waiter who showhad d up for his first day ... to serve 18 women a booze brunch, lord help him. He struggled. A lot. 20 minutes into our allotted two hours no one had a drink. When the bride to be asked for him to start taking drink orders, he simply asked HER what everyone at the table wanted - like she was meant to go around and take orders to deliver to him? Yeesh We finally got the ball rolling and about 30 minutes in he took orders (thankfully there was a croissant and small pot of granola and yoghurt st each place setting when we arrived to hold us over). We continued to coach him through serving our table, telling him he didn't need to ask if we wanted more drinks because the answer was always yes - just bring booze bro. I remained convinced that the restaurant would redeem itself with its food, but when my chicken and waffles arrived I was completely perplexed. A waffle topped with cole slaw (?), topped with heavily seasoned breaded and pan fried chicken (not deep fried as traditional) topped with a creamy mayo based zingy lime sauce - and an inexplicable pot of maple syrup on the side. Wut? Chicken and waffles is a simple offering - deep fried chicken, a waffle, butter and syrup. Maybe bacon. What the shit was this? The menu made no mention of all this lemony, limey, tart dressing business, and the 'slaw' is mentioned but one would expect it as a side (well one would not expect it at all, but certainly not heaped on top as it was). I attempted to scrape the offending elements off and use the syrup on the chicken and waffle as god and Aunt Jemima intended. That was a bust. So ditched the syrup and ate it as it was - which was nice actually. But bloody hell someone seriously misinterpreted "chicken and waffles", or tried to gussy it up but failed to properly describe their vision on the menu. My portion size was decent at leastl however, the eggy bread was one thin slice of bread topped with melted cheese while the poached egg and avocado was similarly dinky; the burgers were the "go f*ck yourself" size that is so tall and out of control it makes you angry - the portions really ran the gamut of huge to itty bitty. For the price and attention to putting the right things in the menu but not bothering to make them any good to eat, this place is a bit of all show and no delivery. Add to that the poor service and this place supremely failed to impress. Despite mentioning to many other servers and managers about our guy struggling to perform the basic functions of a waiter, the manager didn't bother to come check on us until we hit 2pm and he tried to boot us out. We were like uhhhh nice try since we didn't start until about 30 mins in. At which point we were instructed to gather our bottles and finish up outside at an empty table. Kthxbai then. ***EDIT My god I can't believe I forgot two other major mishaps during this experience. The first being that the bride-to-be who was required to make a deposit of £10 per person when making the booking. Which is totally normal for a booking of this size, except that on the day, that deposit was not subtracted from the bill (about £180 worth already paid weeks in advance). She apparently had to argue with three different servers and eventually had to dig out her email confirmation before they would re-run the bill with the deposit subtracted from it. The second being that once we were booted out of our table and made to finish our drinks on their patio, one of the girls in our group had her bag stolen from this area of the restaurant. I get it, this is London and it can happen anywhere, but dear lord this was about 2pm on a Sunday and high-end brunch spot, not 2 am at TigerTiger in Clapham. read more

Newly opened and doing quite well...! We arrived for lunch at noon to an empty restaurant, but by 115 it was jumping on a hot summer day. *Sparkly Lemonade s *Egg Salad sandwich with sprouts + chips on bloomy grain bread *Starter rocket salad - super fresh. *Butterscotch Tart + creme A very solid lunch. The Butterscotch Tart was a bit of a letdown at the end, not terribly exciting, but surely a nice try. I had a taste of the neopolitan parfait which was frozen -- could've also used some "oomph" to spice things up. The egg salad sandwich was a delight, as was the salad. All very fresh. The real shining star was our server. Some of the best service I've had in London, we lucked out. I wish I'd gotten his name. Very attentive, helpful with recommendations. It's an entire restaurant themed around "gymnasium." Done quite well, but somewhat of an odd theme. It does lend itself well to the playful menu, and a light/casual atmosphere. Some very nice long group tables as well that can easily sit up to nearly 16, I'd guess. Will surely return -- wonderful lunch and once they kick those desserts into high gear, this place is 5 stars, surely. read more

Absolutely love the gym equipment and old school feel to this place. finally something a little different. The food was great, if a little long to arrive (did i mention how hungover we were? very) and there was a bit of an annoyance of 3 out 4 meals arriving together and then having to wait for the fourth. OK, so this is probably not the most obvious place for coffee and cake on a street that has a new cafe opening almost every week ... but all the cosy corner hangouts were packed, and the rather strange new kid on the block just wasn't inviting enough, so on to Tanner & Co we go. First things first, our waitress was lovely and friendly and helpful - but her job was simply to take orders ... food and drink were served by other members of staff. We got our drinks quick enough but the rhubarb crumble from the desert menu never materialised while ubiqitous boards of burgers and fries were handed out all around us. This was not during lunchtime rush hour but after 4pm btw. We finished our drinks and decided to cancel said item - much better for the waistline anyhow, even if you are suffering from a terrible hangover induced sugar craving ... Our request was met, but not a word of explanation or even apology - just not good enough!! Situations like this add a lot of unnecessary stress to what is supposed to be a relaxed Saturday afternoon stopover. read more

Tanner and Co is a restaurant and bar on one of my favourite London streets, Bermondsey Street. It has a wonderful design feel to it: really hip and it even boasts a ping pong table (hurrah). This review is only based on drinks as we didn't eat here. So why the two stars I hear you holla? Well, the bar service here is quite frankly diabolical. I waited 20 minutes to get served the first time (come on guys, it wasn't even busy). About fifteen people who came in after me got served first, and it ended up with me actually asking the barman, "Excuse me, please can I get served now?" To which he said, "Yeah ok." So it turns out you just need to ask, and whoever asks first, gets their drinks first. Etiquette is all wrong here, and it disturbs my karma. The second time, as I braved the bar again, the bar was one deep - so it wasn't very busy. This time around I actually gave up after another 20 minutes of waiting hell. We left immediately, and you lost 4 locally living customers in an instant, who then happily spent the rest of the night drinking down the road. Sorry Tanner and Co, but this place has amazing potential so I want to see it improve. Hopefully this review and feedback will help that happen. read more

Celebrated my birthday here this Sunday and this place accommodated for a large group. Although service was a tad slow to begin with the bottomless brunch was faultless. Most places only give you one or two beverage options however , we were able to choose from wine ( red, white, rose) processco, beer, cider and bloody Mary's ... All of which were bottomless for two hours! Food was delicious ... More than enough as I was unable to finish my meal and I can eat! Definitely heading back here again soon! After probably one too many pints in the nearby Woolpack and in desperate need of a feed, a small group of us wandered in here without a reservation at about half 10 on a Thursday night. The restaurant and bar were quite busy, but we had no problem being seated and hadn't missed last orders for food which was a relief. A converted warehouse, the space is nicely laid out. We shared a comfortable booth and perused the menus, filled with mostly British fare "with a modern twist", like most eateries seem to claim these days. I ordered their burger and if memory serves me through the fog of mild drunkenness, it was very tasty. It came to around £15 with chips and garnish so a little on the expensive side for what it was. I felt far more hard done by after ordering a 13 Guns beer by Thwaites - a standard 330ml can came to an astonishing £5.50. So it was custom led by empty stomachs rather than forward planning; overall good but not somewhere I'd rush back to if I'm honest. read more

Nice outdoor beer garden and lots of places for medium to largish sized groups. Probably not a date spot but perfect for after work drinks with a random array of colleagues. The beer list could do with a shake up but the wines are ok and they have many gins to choose from. All in all it's pretty good but it definitely caters for the nine to five crowd and their budget. The house lager is my pick of the beers so if I were you I'd have one or two here then venture down the road to the amazing wine bars, French restaurant or one of the many pizza type places for dinner. A friend recommended this place because of their killer scotch eggs. I soon discovered that her review was spot on. 5 friends and I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening. I made reservations for 8:00 and when we arrived I was so glad we did. The place was packed and had a really nice atmosphere. We were quickly sat and a drink order was placed. The selection of wine, beer, and spirits was pretty nice and we all chose something a little different. To start we had a shareable board and 2 orders of scotch eggs. It was just the right amount to give everyone a taste and soak up the first few beers we had down the street. For dinner I ordered the bean burger and was very happy with my choice. At our table we also had a beef burger, liver, steak, and the pie of the day. We also all had a scoop of the mac and cheese and cauliflower sides. I could have done without the sides, but it was good to try anyway. All around thumbs up and the dinner menu. I wish I could give the place a 4.5 because it was a really nice atmosphere and very satisfying food. The temperature of the room was so hot and it made our time there a bit uncomfortable. When you go there, be sure to layer. I was all sweaty by the time we left and I am typically cold. So. that gives you an idea of how warm it actually was. Maybe try sitting on their patio. It looked very cool and chill out there. Overall a great recommendation for dinner. They have a great online reservation tool for up to 10 people on their site. I'd go back again for sure. read more

Came here on a Thursday night after work. This place looks great from the outside with their courtyard decorated in multicoloured globe lights. On the inside the restaurant has a nautical theme. We started with cocktails. They were delicious! I ordered the bacon and smoked cheese burger for my main. The waitress made a point that it is served medium so I was disappointed when it came well done! It was still really tasty though. The reason I'm only giving this place three stars is because the service wasn't great. They had another event on in the restaurant and we got neglected. When sitting down the waiter failed to bring enough glasses for our water. We eventually had to go up and get our own. It took ages for our wine to come and the bill also took a while to arrive. The food was good. For this reason I'd go back and give it another go! read more

I really don't want to be the type of reviewer who gravitates towards either 5 or 1 star(s) in reviews. I might avoid that on this occasion by awarding just half a star. Delfina used to be one of my favourite haunts and this new opening is in the same space. What used to be light and airy is now claustrophobic. They must have let a bunch of 10-year olds run wild with the decor as it is all garish colours, school gym equipment (including bench seats made out of pommel horses (!), random spotlights, ropes and typewriters. Not pleasant. The toilets are themed so you can choose to go to the Music Room if you like (meet there in five minutes? Is that why they need a name?). It's a toilet! The menu looked really interesting but the food ....well...tasted of nothing. My starter was a mushroom carpaccio with a cauliflower frittata - basically a tasteless mini-omelette with a few mushrooms out of a jar. My main (wrong order brought at first attempt) was a large salad which, again, was tasteless, and the chips were just about OK. My friend had equally tasteless starter and main (undercooked, tepid fish). And the portions were tiny. Our dessert was not bad - chocolate pud with peanut icecream. This earns the half star. At least two neighbouring tables had to send food back. The service was slow but then really fell apart just because a group of 12 arrived. In a restaurant that size it should be what they hope for - not something which causes meltdown. The head waiter swannied around trying to hard sell everyone items off the menu whilst all around him was going wrong. Our grand finale was nearly being overcharged - the wrong amount put into the credit card machine by the waitress. This after we waited 15 minutes for our bill whilst staff stood around talking to each other or to customers. All in all this was a disaster. I don't know how much someone has invested in the place but the money has gone on the (dreadful) decor and not on getting the basics right. We won't be back. read more

They messed up our orders twice which is completely unacceptable. The first mishap screwed us because the special Sunday menu ended after the order was placed so we couldn't order off of it as planned. Slightly traumatising walking into this place. Too many objects to remind me of terrible times in PE at primary and secondary school. Those ropes that chafed my hands and thighs and I couldn't for the life of me climb up. Check. Those vaulting boxes that revealed every iota of gymnastic deficiency I had. All over the bloomin' place. Triple check. If you like that sort of thing, you're in for a treat, the toilets are even dedicated to different subjects (I went downstairs and immediately saw the unisex toilet with 'Biology' and the symbol for both men and women's toilets and thought, 'hang on, what's going on here?' but I assure you it's all very above board). Part of the menu also seems to replicate the delights of a British child's lunchbox circa 1977. But not content with paying premium prices for an egg'n'cress sarnie I decided to venture out the box and get an air-dried duck with quince, or something such. It also came with a tiny pot of chips, which were nice enough but the nicely packaged sandwich was on the small size. Probably around the right size for a primary school child. Taste-wise it was kind of nice, but I've realised that I don't like these gourmet-British-fusion joints, usually I am very adventurous with my plate but the salty duck and the sweet quince together was nice for a while, but then I started to imagine that this is what human flesh would taste like. I don't know why. But I'm sure someone somewhere would like it. I'm giving it a three stars because the virgin cocktails in a teapot was very nice and generously drawn, and I would give it another go and perhaps try one of the bigger plates with proper food and not the lunchbox of Russian debutante 11-year-old living in Kensington. read more

OK, but a bit meh. Went because it wasn't too busy on a Weds lunchtime, and it's easy to see why. Adequate to nice-ish food, but lacking flavour or flare, luke warm service. More than edible, I guess, and I appreciated the space compared to all the other local places, which were rammed. This is a good place to catch up with friends over a drink and meal. It wasn't overly packed out like some of its neighbours. The setting and food are nice. I had the steak, mushrooms on toast and chocolate cake. The mushrooms on toast is great for a little snack if having drinks after work. The cake was deliciously soft and gooey on the inside. It's decent food in a nice setting. This gets three stars as the atmosphere is nice, the food is good but nothing special for the price. read more

This is now open an very good indeed. Love the old sports hall feel about the place and the food is excellent! Try the hot Smoked pork chop! Delicious! Have now tried mornings lunch and evening and all have been great. They need to keep working on the service but that will come. Atmosphere is really good even in the outside space. read more

I went to Tanner about two years ago and really enjoyed the food and vibe so decided to go there for a work meal. What a disappointment. What has happened to the joint? The burgers are absurd. They are impossible to eat physically. Whoever thought of deep frying cauliflower cheese really shouldn't have had that thought. The fish board was ok but I could have bought similar from Tesco and mushed it up myself without spending anything like £20. We were served by three people in total, only one of whom seemed to know the menu. Bad wine recommendations. Really nothing positive to say which is such a shame as it used to be so good. read more

We came for brunch on Saturday morning. It was very busy ( probably due to the party of 40 who had ordered the bottomless brunch) and it took about 1 hour+ to get our food. My salad was rotten, with brown spots on most the leaves, my friends chicken was pink as he cut into it. The croissants, granola cups and orange juices that had been on our table when we arrived ( in anticipation that we would order bottomless brunch) were removed after 20 minutes and put on the table next to ours, for the party that would arrive 2 hours later ( Im quite sure this breaks some health regulation.) Tanners and co inhabits beautiful space and the deco is great , but I think the kitchen is not big enough or the infrastructure is not in place to serve a full house. It should be said that the manager kindly and professionally switched out my salad asap and apologized profusely. read more

Myself and my friend had dinner here yesterday evening (23/05/17) and both had the bacon and brie burger and a glass of red wine each. The burger arrived too well-done and was suspiciously hot - staying hot for a long time with steam rising from it only as if it might have been microwaved. The burger was extremely dry and tasteless. At the steep price of £15 for a burger it is needless to say we were disappointed. Service charge was not optional and with £10 for a glass of wine we paid £60 total for two burgers and two glasses of wine. To end the experience both myself and my friend have had dodgy stomachs overnight into this morning. I will be giving the restaurant a call to ensure this doesn't happen to future customers. read more

Four of us went to Tanner & Co for a post Christmas lunch. We booked for a latish slot but got there early to have a pre-lunch drink. We entered the restaurant to find it pretty much empty. Two tables occupied and not a single staff member in sight. No-one at the entry desk, no-one behind the bar and no waiting staff. Not even a merry jingle on the sound system. Well, we thought, maybe the lunchtime rush has passed. We sat at the bench table just inside the door and eventually a staff member spotted us and took our drinks order. After a natter we sat down at our table in what by now was an empty restaurant. We were seated by a window and a cold down-draft greeted us. The radiator and entire heating system was off and the chill set in. The chill developed further as the solitary staff member clearly wanted to be elsewhere that day though she did redirect the distant fan heater from heating up a vacant space to pointing over in our direction. We asked for the lunch menu but were told the brunch menu we already had was the day's offering - though several items were "off". Being 2pm, none of us really wanted a stack of pancakes or eggs or toast and the roast options were too much for the kitchen that day, though we wondered if anyone was actually in there. Bleak got bleaker and we drank up and asked for the bill. No eating there for us... what a pathetic offering for a restaurant. They'd really have done better reputationally by acknowledging that trade was weak and just shutting for the week. We left for Borough Market; the server smiled thinly and looked relieved that nothing more would disturb her. Sorry Tanner & Co, you're lucky to get 1 star. read more
