This place is bizarre. While I am giving the Dr 1 star (I wish I could give 0), his nurse is amazing. The Dr seems like only care about charging for as many things as possible. I was declined a refill of my depression meds (that he upped for not discernible reason) because he wanted to charge me for an appointment and blood draw (that he failed to ask me to fast for the first time). I would not suggest anyone go to this Dr. I have also filed a complaint with the Illinois State Medical Board. read more

I never thought I would love another doctor after I lost my old family doc but OMG. Dr. Tomecki was recommended to me by my son who heard a ton of good things about him and everything he told me was spot on. Dr. Tomecki took care of ME. He doesn't order unnecessary tests, he listens with compassion. He is knowledgeable. He cares. His medical assistant is AWESOME. Like other reviewers, i feel that it comes through very clearly that he really cares about his patients well being, which to me is very important in a primary care doc. FIRST TIME I DIDN'T PASS OUT WHILE GETTING BLOOD DRAWN! I wish I could give them 10 stars!! Great Doctor and staff! Not sure what the issues with the staff were with others but the staff has always been super friendly to me (of course the receptionist is gonna inquire about what your issues are ... they need to accommodate urgent patients first! If you can't explain your problems then don't call @ work in front of others...just a thought). You have to love Dr. Tomecki. Found him a few years ago after I moved here from SC. He has a small office near the Brookfield Metra stop. Which is only a block from my place. Quite convenient. I was just looking for a doctor that was close, found him online. I was incredibly lucky I did. Great doctor with a great staff. He genuinely listens to you and has great sense of humor. Dr. Tomecki is very kind and knowledgeable. He's talkative and he listens - two great qualities in a general doctor. He is very up to date - he takes notes in his Mac and has everything very organized. He will print out materials for you on particular topics if he feels it will help. I like that his website has information about him so you can see his credentials and sort of see who you're going to. Random..but he is also really into living a green lifestyle. Kind of a cool thing to hear. I do agree with Kasey G. that it was odd that one of the receptionists asked over the phone what my "problems" were and it felt odd to tell a receptionist. Girl, I am at work and just want to schedule a quick appointment, not tell you and everyone else sitting near me at work my health issues! read more

I have been looking for a doctor who stops to explain what's going on and talks to you about your health AND CARES! Dr. Tomecki stopped to explain everything (even drew me a picture) to help me understand what was going on. Elizabeth was super sweet. My husband went for repeated visits for blood pressure reduction, I've been for general check ups. On the downside, the first thing we both noticed is that there is a very rude receptionist. When calling to make an appointment, she sounds annoyed and bothered. She asked right away, as if we were some kind of moochers, whether we have insurance and can pay for the visit. Also making sure we knew that they don't take certain kinds of government insurance. Then, when scheduling, very invasive about what we want to see him for, really it sounds like she's screening patients. The other thing that bothered me was the process of getting to his after hours line. Most doctors have one message where you can press one button and leave a message. I am not joking..there are literally 4 or 5 places where you need to press buttons to confirm that you want to leave a message for the doctor to call you. Again, just getting the feeling he is really not interested in dealing with his patients after hours. Also, it's tough to reach them because they are often not in the office. I think being a one man show must be sort of tough. The wait time to see him is always short, which means that he is meticulous in keeping himself and his patients on time. In terms of the blood pressure, Dr. Tomecki made good efforts to diagnose my husband's condition and help him with solutions. After each visit, he sent a detailed report of the blood work with recommendations. I think he's thorough in his investigations of issues and understands well how to interpret and explain blood work to patients. He is very friendly and easy to talk to and ask questions. I would continue to see him if it wasn't such a barrier with the receptionist, office hours, and after hours numbers (especially with children where I would need a very quick call back). read more

I've seen Dr. Tomecki and his staff for several years now, and I've never hesitated to follow his advice and guidance. Others have noted that the receptionist will ask for details of the visit, and I think that's to guage office visit time and such -- for example, a flu shot will be a much quicker visit than a complete health checkup with a dozen questions about "that spot" on your leg. There is also a "patient portal" to schedule appointments, send emails, and retrieve relevant paperwork from office visits. Regardless, I've seen nothing but complete professionalism from Dr. T and his staff. I've never felt pressured to make decisions that I wasn't comfortable making, and I've been greeted with a smile every time I walk in. The office has a "home" feeling, and this practice has never steered me wrong. read more

Dr. George Tomecki and his staff, Elizabeth, et al are by far and away the best office I've ever been to in my 46 yrs! His knowledge, atentiveness, diagnosis, follow-up and "bedside manner" are superb. I always recieve a prompt answer to any calls I make and after hours when I had a concern, Dr. Tomecki called me promptly and resolved the question, then made a pharmacy call. I trust him and that says a lot! Elizabeth can draw blood like no other! she always finds my hard to locate veins with no problem and no pain - hard to find, most hospital staff cannot do that. read more

What an absolutely wonderful doctor. Does a great examination. Very personable (which I didn't expect) and holds a super attitude. I feel Dr. Tomecki should be practicing in Hinsdale or Hollywood- does such a great job. I'm never going to anyone else. read more

Update on my review from 1/3/17: NEGATIVE stars would be too many! After several weeks of calling this jerk, telling him she doesn't feel well, coming in for visit after visit, my mother wound up in the hospital diagnosed with C Diff AND MRSA! The nurse we finally got coming to the home thru medicare said he should have ordered home treatment IMMEDIATELY after seeing my mom for the wounds she had, not waited 3 weeks until I fought with him for the referral. Furthermore, she said he was not even treating the wounds properly....not using the proper dressing, anti-biotics, etc. He put her on medication to reduce the fluid that caused the wounds, but failed to give her proper instructions about keeping hydrated, drinking things like Ensure or Pedialite, etc. He never thought to test her for C Diff even though she weighed in with him at EVERY visit and has lost nearly 40 pounds since Thanksgiving! WHAT "DOCTOR" doesn't question why an 84 year old woman suddenly loses 40 pounds, or doesn't know how to do basic wound care? He may be very personable, but he doesn't know medicine! Find another doctor or you might end up in the hospital if you go to this one with anything serious! read more

Absolutely the best experience at the doctor's I've had in 27 years. Let me start out by saying that 1) I can be quite a critical person when it comes to my health care and 2) At the time of my visit I was in a large amount of pain which makes #1 a LOT worse. Dr. Tomecki's receptionist was very kind and professional when I called to make the appointment and she got me right in within 4 hours even though I was a new patient. In the waiting room you could tell that it was a small family practice where everyone had nothing but good things to say about the doctor. There was a little bit of a wait, but the Dr. apologized as soon as he came into the room (which doctors normally never do, they usually act like your wasting their time). His exam was thorough and gentle and he gave all of my concerns his earnest attention and never seemed condescending or rushed. He even drew me a picture on the exam table paper explaining what he found and carefully described his treatment plan, and when I asked questions or made suggestions he gave my opinions respect and didn't do the typical doctor thing of acting insulted that I was trying to get involved in my care, he actually seemed happy that I was informed! Then, when I had a problem at the pharmacy and went back during the office's closed lunch hour he came right out and helped me and the problem was fixed right away (the pharmacy's computer wasn't working properly). I had my meds right away and feel better already. Especially since I now feel secure that I have a great doctor right down the road for my future issues! read more

We moved to Chicago from Spokane Wa. expecting less than personable and less than reliable health care. What a surprise to find George Tomecki, MD and his staff. My family and I found Dr. Tomecki and all his staff to be efficient, EXTREMELY CARING, and having impecable follow through. Fact is we have never had a better primary care MD in our lifetime..not ever! Dr Tomecki could EASILY charge twice as much as he does taking only "High End" insurance and patients, but he is a truely genuine and caring human being, humble and has a staff that makes you feel like family at every visit. My family has since moved back to Spokane as I have terminal liver cancer, to be close to family. We sincerely miss you all at The Family Doctors and highly recommend The Family Doctors to all of Chicago! They are worth traveling accross Chicago to make them your Family Doctors!
