My girlfriend and I visited the Farm at Prophetstown this weekend after checking out the Tippecanoe Battlefield Museum earlier in the day and realizing this was right down the road. The site is a working farm depicting 1920s farm life, complete with two homes that were built from kits the original owners ordered from the Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalog. They're fully furnished with period-appropriate materials and visitors can browse through at their leisure. There's also a barn for the animals and a blacksmith shop. We had a quick visit because it was a cold, rainy March day, but the animals were a particular highlight. The farm houses were neat, but I think we would have enjoyed them more if we'd visited when there were historic interpreters to discuss the buildings and their contents. I find the farm to be so delightful. We went on a "Meet the animals" day, and I got to meet all sorts of critters! So what if I was the only adult there without a child. Don't judge me. I love that all their animals are rescued and rehomed, and they emphasize that mission while still using age-appropriate language. For example, adults can tell that the female mini horse is a rescue and came from a bad situation, but kids just know she's skittish. That's just about perfect. I also appreciate that I know that none of the animals (in particular, the cows and chickens) are going to be dinner for anyone. I recommend following their social media. They tend to give announcements about events, as well as generally let you know what's going on with the animals at the farm. read more

This place is the best! I first visited the farm last year, and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious U-pick raspberries there. They were so tasty! In addition to picking raspberries, we saw the happy chickens, ducks, pigs, mini-horses, and other neat farm animals there. Shawn, the employee I met that day was super sweet and was patient to answer all the questions I had about the farm, and also showed me the cotton that was in bloom! The inside of the farmhouse feels like a step back into the 1920s, complete with period-appropriate furniture, vintage dishes, a wood stove, farmhouse sink, player piano, and other neat items. Lauren, in addition to being able tell you anything and everything about chickens, can also tell you about all the 1920s relics in the farmhouse, as well as cook up a storm for the monthly dinners that they have (make sure to check those out on the facebook page- the food is so so good!) They also have neat programs like a seed library, and classes you can attend, such as ones on bread baking and beer brewing. Make sure to buy some tasty farm eggs, pork and beef- I've had the duck eggs, chicken eggs, ribeye, ham, and bacon, and have loved all of it. My family and I love this place so much! The people who work here are kind, helpful and knowledgeable. It's beautiful and peaceful, and my daughter loves to run around and feed the horses. She also likes to chase the chickens The beef they sell is some of the best we've ever had, and I feel good about it knowing where it came from, and how lovingly the animals were treated. Born and raised in Lafayette and had heard a lot of fun things about the park. Me and my wife were off last week and wanted something to do on a beautiful mid-May day, so we (finally) opted to check out the park. The first thing we saw upon entering was the historic farm. Gate was open so we drove up. The first thing we noticed were the horses. Absolutely beautiful. We later found out their names and saw two mini-horses too! Without the service we received from two pretty blondes, we would've been lost. But the service we had was special and unique, as well as informative... every question we asked was answered precisely and correct - from one in particular - (my wife Googled things later to fact check and we were surprised by the knowledge bestowed upon us!!). My wife loved it and that made everything perfect. We stayed for two hours and the cherry on top was the steaks we were able to purchase! Just ate them today on memorial day and they were the best steaks I've had in over 10 years. Absolutely incredible experience. Lafayette has more than a mall!!! read more
