Stopped in for dinner with friends on a Sunday afternoon and had a solid experience. The standout of the night was our server, Amara--attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. We were seated quickly, and throughout the meal, we never felt rushed or forgotten. On Amara's recommendation, we tried the spicy honey Brussels sprouts, and they were a hit--crispy, flavorful, and gone in minutes. We also ordered a couple of mocktails, smash burgers, the French dip, and a half salad that was generous enough to be a full portion at most places. The food overall was really good--not quite exceptional, but definitely worth a visit. I'm still trying to pinpoint what sets Farmer's Rail apart from other restaurants in a similar category. It's well-executed comfort food with a thoughtful menu, but perhaps still finding its unique edge. The food was absolutely delicious. We actually dined at the bar as all of the tables were taken with earlier reservations. The waiters behind the bar were attentive and in relatively short period of time we placed our drink, appetizer, and food order at once. We chose the calamari, my wife chose the filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. All were exceptional. This is for the market. Near Bath. I have been wanting to stop here for some time. I talked my wife into stopping. We opened the door and a strange odor hit me. Something like fishy and old meat ? I can't quite place it. Maybe it's from their aging meats (intentionally aged). I don't know but almost turned abound. Alas we were welcomed so warmly I had a Seinfeld moment and went right in the store. My wife and I shared a look. She smelled it too. The meats looked fantastic. Store very nice. We respectfully looked around and left. Very friendly staff. Very nice looking meat and seafood. Could not get over the smell. If it's from the aging meat you should get a ventilation solution. Do something! I think the staff probably can't smell it at this point. I have not had similar experiences in other stores that display and age meats. I wanted to buy a fresh, local, farm raised turkey for Thanksgiving this year. This shop was recommended. I've driven by it numerous times, but never visited. I went online and purchased a 15-18 pound bird. Awesomely, there was an option to have them cut up the turkey so I didn't have to. You see, I'm of the mindset that a pre-segmented bird is easier to cook. I've cooked many whole turkeys in the past, and my friends, I am done with that! I'm a big believer in cooking turkey parts rather than a whole turkey. It can produce a jucier, more flavorful, more evenly cooked bird. And The Farmer's Rail's willingness to chop up the bird for me makes that task even easier. The bird was the most flavorful turkey that I've ever cooked. I used a dry brine (salt/pepper/brown sugar), let it sit in the fridge uncovered overnight, and the pieces fully cooked in just over an hour. That is a new record for me and to getting a better result was my reward. My guests raved about my turkey. As far as turkey goes, it doesn't get any better than this. read more

Your one stop shop for an epic picnic. I heard about Farmer's Rail from a friend who's been going here for years essentially asks for a whole carved up pig that she can then freeze and store for all her pork needs. Sourced by Brunty Farms and other local partners, Farmer's Rail seems barely more than a deli counter off Massilon - but the variety packed into the small space and spilling out onto the curb is awe-inspiring. There's ample parking directly in front of the store as well as in the dirt lot along the side of the shop. A small selection of produce can be found outside and inside the store, but the main attractions are their choice cuts of meat - beef, pork, poultry, lamb, seafood, all fresh and local. My purpose for going was to find charcuterie supplies, and in addition to the tasty Iberico spicy chorizo sausage, sorpresatta, and salami with black truffles that I bought, I came away with premium steak burger patties for 50% off. Definitely rummage through the discount coolers located outside to see what good deals there might be on frozen meats. If you're feeding an army, Farmer's Rail sells pretty much the whole hog (pun intended) and offers curbside pickup - order in advance the day before, and they'll have your goods ready when you arrive. Excellent meat market! The meat in the case is super fresh and there are some unique choices of cuts. The butchers can also trim cuts from the back of one should need a bigger cut than what is in the case. In addition to fresh meat in the case, there are also other food items available too. What was very cool to see is that there were baked goods from the Akron area and local pierogies and pasta in one of the freezer cases. This place also has top notch customer service! I have always loved this place! I shop there all of the time. This year I bought a ham and a turkey breast, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, seafood and a chartcut tray to add to our normal spread. Hubby and I stopped her for the 1st time. We ended up purchasing a number of items. They were running a sale the day we went, they had 6-7 coolers out front of the store with signs that indicated what the discount was for each cooler. We got 4 packs of Italian sausage for $1 a piece. The service was great, the store itself was kind of small, but had a cute small town feel to it. Hubby and I purchased the Italian pinwheels for dinner tonight. It was flank steak, with mozzarella, pepperoni and green onions with a pepper crust. They were delicious! We cooked them on our Blackstone Griddle and were delicious. We will be going back in the future. Their prices were good, quality was impeccable and service was great. I love this place. This is a local farm that free range is all their animals. Their meat was in such high demand instead of going to the farm to buy the meat they opened up the storefront. They couldn't keep up the supply so now they also carry other local farmers free range meat. All the meat is marked accordingly so you know if it's Brunty Farms or a different farm in the area. Everything is no nitrate no preservatives and processed all naturally cheese and meat. You can't get it better anywhere else in the area. read more

Let's be really honest here. Most of us regular folks cannot afford to shop here regularly or buy all our meat here. This IS full blown local, gourmet, high quality. You get what you pay for here. It's worth the splurge. And you are paying for more than just the product. You are paying for passionate employees who give a damn about what they sell. They also vacuum pack all your fresh meat orders which is a great bonus. A full service butcher? In 2020?!? With Covid measures, they were doing a brisk steady business with a cap of 7 customers in this tiny place at a time. No rushing anyone through though. Any and all questions welcome...none too dumb. The last thing they want is for you to buy that beautiful sausage and not let it be prepared to it's fullest potential. I was excited to find fresh duck thighs. I've always loved duck in restaurants but it's nice to find a decent portion for a first time experiment. You rarely see duck around here. The display of prosciutto and other cured hams is insanely tempting though I wasn't ready to splurge that day. Anyways, really a very SMALL place that can take you a decent time to wander through as it really is packed with great local products. read more

Good knowledgeable people and great products! Do not let the size of this shop fool you, they have it all: meat, seafood, dairy, charcuterie, and assorted accoutrements. I bought fresh soft shelled crab and was so happy they did all of the cleaning work for me and even gave me cooking ideas. Same with the ribeyes I purchased, they know what they are selling and are very helpful/knowledgeable. I heard a couple complaining about prices and here is the bottom line---this is good quality stuff and you are going to pay more than at the grocery store--and it is worth it because it is better! read more

Bath location: This place is small but packs a big punch of amazing meat cheese and dairy options. With small delicate snacks around as well. Everything is from local farms. They sell bread, pretzels, and bakery items as well. They have specials which can be seen on social media. They meats are cool cause they will have seasoned or non seasoned items allowing you to choose what you'd prefer. They have a small section of veggies and other items. Eggs available: pasture raised. My mother in law special ordered lobsters this week to be picked up today for our anniversary dinner. When she arrived to pick then up this afternoon, she was advised that they only had two as one had been refused at delivery. Brad said that he had called his supplier and that a replacement was on its way and that he would be happy to deliver the new lobster to her home, which he did. This is a level of service that is almost unheard of today and Brad is to be commended. This is my first review of ANY kind, but my recent experience with dealing with "The Farmer's Rail" has prompted me to share my visit. I had called to inquire about a smoked salmon dip that I had purchased in the past. Unfortunately, they no longer offer it. I was able to speak with Kody, the manager, and he, to my surprise offered to create a "batch" just for me! I was and still am impressed with this AMAZING type of service in a world of the lack of customer satisfaction. Kody went above and beyond! I only purchased one item - steak. We had several strip steaks and a sirloin. We were very careful in preparation, but that said, these were excellent cuts of meat. I walked in for the first time one minute until the sign said the place was closing. I was told politely that they were closing. I said it was no problem, that I just pass by it often and wanted to pop in to see what it was about. She then said that they were closed. I said "you said you were closing, but all I really wanted to know was what you were about." She told me that I had to leave and that I could some back in the morning and ask my questions. I said, "so You can't just tell me, in a sentence, what you guys do or sell or serve here?" She said - I shit you not - "I will tomorrow. But right now, we are closed." There were no less than five employees in the place and one customer was leaving... Never processed, not too smoky, and always fresh, it's something I make the drive for weekly. If you are a turkey fan, you must try this on your next sandwich. Some detail: I'm always searching for high quality, locally sourced meat when cooking. We have a few farms we utilize from the Medina Farmers Market, but there are times when they don't have exactly what we're looking for in a recipe. This is where I love Farmer's Rail. They have a high quality selection of meat and seafood. We've tried everything form the pork to the beef to the chicken at this place and have never been disappointed. The price is a bit higher than say Earth Fare, but you are getting a higher quality based on our cooking experience. I was in town from South Florida visiting family. We stumbled upon the Hudson location after being to multiple places, and making multiple phone calls looking for a particular cut of meat which was common to us back home, but seemingly not so common here. Upon walking in, I instantly fell in love with the ambiance of the place and what they had to offer. Walking back to the counter still not seeing what I was after, the girl behind the counter kindly stepped back to the butcher who ended up dropping what he was doing to come speak to me. Alex was the biggest help and after a little back and fourth we got to the bottom of what I was after as it was known there by a different name than it is back home. Thankfully he says I just happen to have that on my board right now! Showed me the piece he had and yup that was it!!!!! He got it perfectly trimmed, and packed up. I ended up getting some other items from the case as well all thanks to the amazing service! I walked out saying I would move to Ohio solely to have this place!!!! Thank you all.... We have been very happy with the quality, service, and overall shopping experience up until today. Unfortunately, today's experience was not as expected. We made our selections and purchased our usual $75 worth of meats. When I checked my receipt I noticed that I was charged $2.00 more per pound than the signage in the meat case. I went back over to the counter thinking I must have read the advertised sign wrong, but I hadn't. I spoke with an associate and pointed out the mistake made went weighing and labeling the price of the meat. I was directed to what I believe was a manager who indicated that was last week's price and the sign was wrong (it's Friday so the sign has been wrong all week and btw was there last Friday and that was not the price posted). I was not belligerent and politely said I understood, however, my purchase was based on the advertised price in the meat case. I was then asked if I wanted to return the meat. I was very surprised as I expected a price adjustment and then asked "So, you will not do a price adjustment and honor the price posted?" (a refund of around $10.00) I was again told I could return the meat. Which I did. Again, more than just disappointed. Not a good business practice as it only takes one bad experience to wipe out all of the previous good ones. Not going back. read more
