I really enjoyed this venue for a seated comedy show. It was my first time being at Saint Andrew's Hall and I had a nice time! There was a bit of a line to get in, but once the doors opened, it moved quickly and we got through security. I'm used to super expensive drinks at most of my local venues, so I was happy to see that they weren't over the top pricey. It was GA seating so we got a spot near the stage and had a good view. The sound was good, although the bathrooms are in the lobby behind closed doors so you couldn't hear the performance from there. Staff was nice, the bartenders were great, and I loved that they had bottomless popcorn available. They have some seating in the upper balcony, but I'm not sure if those spots were more expensive. I would probably come to see another show at this venue in the future! read more

I've been to this venue for quite a few concerts for a little over a decade now and have always had a fantastic experience! The staff is all very kind, and are truly open to help in any way/shape they can. I truthfully love the simplicity of this venue, it's very straightforward in every aspect , not a lot you can mix up. They usually have the coat check open which is especially useful during the winter, but you can even check your merch in while you enjoy the show! It's a cashless venue and they do also take apple pay! Another notable aspect that I love is that they have free water, they have little coolers everywhere with plastic cups next to them and you're able to go grab some whenever! They don't have their own designated parking lot/spaces, but there's a parking lot quite literally right next to it, and plenty of parking around the corner as well! I recommend using parkwhiz and getting it beforehand as they usually double/triple the price the day of! read more

I've been to many concerts here throughout the years - it's definitely for "smaller" artists and is a much more intimate space. It's a small hall with the main ground level, which is just completely flat all the way to the stage with a bar on one side. There's a wrap around "balcony" that lines the edges a floor up if you want a vantage point, it's normally extra $$ for this "upgrade," but if I'm going to a concert here, I kind of like the intimacy of the GA ground on the ground level, so that's where you'll find me! This place is wonderful and just exactly what you might expect from a small concert venue. It's a little grimy, a little run down, but it just adds to the charm of the place, and it's right in the heart of downtown Detroit as well! Love it! read more

When here last night, took my daughter and her best friend to go see chase Atlantic. I was blown away by the renovations and the upgrades to everything. It didn't smell like pee anymore and the bathrooms were absolutely clean and immaculate!!! They definitely check your papers for Covid for the negative test and picture ID. The staff is really helpful and everyone was super friendly. They have a great little lounge area downstairs where you can watch the concert from. The only negative I have . it said to start at 7 PM on the ticket but they didn't let us in the building till almost 745 and it was only 30° outside! read more

I saw Joshua Bassett last night, which was my first concert at St. Andrew's. I am unfortunately on crutches as the result of a recent surgery/injury and was pretty worried about attending a GA show, but the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating (specifically Ashley at the box office, who made sure the staff was ready to help me out before I had even gotten there). Additionally, Wes with security was very kind while we were outside waiting to see Joshua before he left, and was patient and interactive with all of the girls waiting outside. The rest of the staff was incredibly nice as well, and all of them were willing to help me out while I walked around. I would see another show here simply because the staff went above and beyond! read more

I've come for some art shows, and I've had a mediocre time at best. Maybe the venue is just too packed for what was trying to be accomplished, or maybe there was simply too many people in attendance, but my date and I didn't have a very good time. Beyond the packed, shoulder-to-shoulder feel of the place the music was entirely too loud. Again, that may be more of a "who is running the event" and not the venue itself, but for what was going on you couldn't talk to the artists that were there. The entire reason I came was to network and potentially collab with or hire artists for future gigs, but you couldn't really talk to anyone with the music played at such a high level. Lastly, the venue doesn't seem clean at all. It just has a grimmy bar feel to it that I don't dig. The only reason I didn't give the place 1 Star is because the people throwing the event may have been the cause of some of the issues, so if/when I go back I will update the review accordingly. read more

I went to the front bottoms concert and there was obviously no control or regulations on the amount of tickets sold and the venue was packed all the way into the lobby to the point where the band vocalized their concern multiple times and asked people to stop crowd surfing and moshing for their safety (didn't do that at other shows where I saw them) had to watch the concert that my gf got me for our anniversary in the basement on a screen. This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. It was my first concert with my boyfriend. He has seen hundreds of artists in California and Oregon. This is his first in Michigan. I have never been to St. Andrew's before. It was pretty easy to find. The most dissapointing thing is the parking lot. Park somewhere else. There was a sign pointing at it that said $6 and another that said $10. Across the street from them was a busier parking lot. The man wouldn't tell us how much we owed. He then said $15 which was odd. We told him the sign said $10 and one said $6. He claimed it was for earlier and wouldn't budge. Park somewhere else. I watched and waited in line as he charged a few others $15 and then finaly I saw him charge 2 people only $10. I was upset. Changing the prices on people. At firt, we were really upset because it was 40 degrees out and the doors were supposed to open at 7pm. A man was walkingn down the line charging $20 if you wanted to get in first and $30 per person if you wanted a balcony seat with a table. We decided not to because he doors were supposed to open shortly. Unfortunately, they told us that the equipment just arrived from Chicago and a sound check still needed to be done. We weren't sure if this was true, but we had to wait until 7:40 and they finally opened the doors. It was so cold and windy. The place is kinda smaller yet intimate. We enjoyed the bar area. My boyfriend got a drink for $8. I paid $7 for an unlimited pop fill. You can buy the one time pop for $3. It was better to get the unlimited because then we both could share and get refills, and keep an awesome souvenir. We used the bar as a spot to lean on closer to the stage. As teens are, many shoved and stood in front of us. Don't you hate when someone taller stands in front of you? We got to see the first band Verte as the opening act. She was really good, and we enjoyed her music. EDEN was absolutely amazing. He is such an introvert though, but I love it. He buries himself into the music and gets so emotional with the instruments. It was truly amazing. He would start a song and finish, and the lights would go out, the crowd would scream, and then he'd start another song with different lights. It was an amazing experience. The sound was actually amazing. He sounded better than his album. You could hear all of the instruments and beats loudly. The light work was awesome as well because it changed with each song. He even apologized after a few songs, stating that his equipment was indeed late. We understand this can happen and it isn't their fault. We were happy to enjoy our time at the concert. They do now have ac. They do have a coat check, but I think they charge for it. The bathrooms were clean when I went in. Again, park somewhere else. read more

I came here tonight for the first time, for the Plain White T's concert. I probably should have guessed this from the name, but I think it used to be an old church. The architecture is very cool, including both the exterior and the interior. When we rounded the corner from Beaubien to Congress St, there was a small line to get in but it went smoothly. They run a metal detector over you and if you're a woman carrying a bag they will ask you to open it as well. You know I'm old because the inspector asked me what was in the bottom of my purse and I showed him: Tylenol, lol. The venue is basically one big open room except they also have a balcony. A friend who has been to a few shows here said that normally the balcony is open for anyone, tonight it was more of a VIP section though because I believe tickets were more expensive for it. They had the AC cranked up and it was pretty nice. Even though it's one big room I never felt crazy crowded which was also nice. I would come back here to see another show except I would probably try to sit in the balcony, after about 3 hours standing my feet really hurt tonight. I will say the staff here gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. One of my friends was trying to find her ticket on Ticketmaster/her phone, but was apparently low on data. One of the staff came over and asked her what was going on and she told him, and then he gave her a paper ticket to get in, which was pretty nice of him. Another friend went outside to get some air during the concert and a staff member asked if she was okay, and later ushered her back in and let her sit in the balcony so it wouldn't be as crowded for her. Went to see the Corktown Popes and headliner Rhythm Corps. I have not been here in almost 33 years. I had one of the most enjoyable nights I've had in a long time. I had floor tickets which meant standing all night, I knew that going in though. The place sure looked great. There's a nice long bar with very friendly bartenders. The sound was very good. The bands were fabulous. The Corktown Popes are must to see they did original music and it was awesome. Rhythm Corps were fantastic especially for having a long layoff between gigs. There was two special guest Tony K the lead singer of Figures on a Beach and he sounded great. Mike Skill guitarist of the Romantics and he was great as always. I hope I don't go another 33 years without coming back. read more

Cool and intimate place is the best way I can describe St. Andrew's Hall. Standing room on the ground level while seats are in the mezzanine area. St. Andrew's Hall staff was working the line-up to get people to upgrade to "VIP" in order to sit in the mezzanine area. We did not bite and kept our standing seats; however, by the end of the concert we kind of wished we upgraded - getting old! Parking is a little over the place. We parked behind the hall and the parking attendant asked us if we were there for the hall or elsewhere - up charge if you were there for a concert. Staff also give you a heads up that there is a security check and pat down before entering the hall. This was unexpected but necessary for safety. Merch area and bathrooms when you walk into the lobby. Bathrooms were clean and nice. Coat check was downstairs. The coat check gal only charged us for one coat even though we checked in two. Bar inside the concert area and the drinks were flowing for people for a wild Tuesday night with Andrew McMahon and friends. Dreading someone tall standing in front of you is a short person's nightmare. Of course it happens, of course, where do all these tall people come from for concerts? Having to be aggressive and hold your spot down on the floor is a challenge but a necessary evil. Good sound and fun atmosphere. I would rather see a concert at DTE for comfort wise to sit down (again I am old and grouchy) but getting the intimate feel and close up views of the artist is unbeatable. read more

Home to both The Shelter and Saint Andrew's primary venue on the main floor, this is absolutely one of my favorite music venues. It's small enough to be intimate but big enough to draw medium / large national bands. It has a great sound system, so if your band is really on that night, you will get to actually experience it. There are a number of bars so the wait times for cocktails are never bad. The bathrooms can get a little jammed up but there are couple of options here. First, there is The Shelter space downstairs. It is rare that they double book, so assuming it is empty down there, you should have wide open real estate down there. The second (and my personal favorite) is to pay the $20 (roughly) upgrade to the upstairs VIP. It is never that busy and has it's own bar and bathroom. It is a much better way to see a show as long as you don't want to mosh!! SAH is a great venue. I look for excuses to get there. I literally watch the schedule. If there is ever a band I am remotely interested in, I usually book it. read more

Apparently you are subject to being kicked out of this place if you refuse to let belligerent and inconsiderate people push their way in front of you when there is no more room left to stand. I was just trying to ignore these people who were ruining my and others' concert experience when several security guards grabbed me out of no where... I literally was just standing there and they acted like I was being violent. Very disappointed by my experience at the Little Dragon show tonight. Maybe actually observe what's happening and substantiate claims instead of just taking what these entitled people complain about at face value? I have been here for several concerts. It's a small venue. Kind of grungy and old school. But a super fun spot. Cheap tickets and a lot of fun. We were here today for the Cupid's undie run. Great venue for it. If you're a VIP you get to go upstairs where there is seating (it's standing room only on the main floor), and a private bar and restrooms. Down stairs is The Shelter. They hold really small time bands down there. Parking was easy and convenient and only $7. Afterward we went right next door to the Elephant Room and enjoyed more cocktails and food. It's an enjoyable experience if you go in understanding that this is an old building and small venue, kind of grungy, you won't be disappointed if you go in expecting Fox Theatre. read more

An intimate hall venue for concerts and performances. The acoustics are phenomenal here. It's not that big of a place, so no,, you wouldn't need thousands and thousands and thousands of watts to get an awesome output. Tickets here are pretty much general admission. So do come early for the good spots. Other than that,, make sure you do the upgrade early,, so you can get yourself a nice seat on the balcony,, if you're lucky enough,, you land one with a table. The upstairs was my favorite part, because there's a dedicated bar for the upgrade peeps. Also there's a dedicated bathroom as well. So yea,, it was definitely worth the money. We came to see the Boyce Avenue concert which was very cool. Great performance and the venue was totally awesome. I would definitely come and watch concerts here again if given the chance. Good location for a venue. Depending on which artist comes here this can either be the perfect size or too small, you be the judge. This place is really old but it's a good layout and great drink prices. They ask you if you want single or double drinks. They do a good job of advertising upcoming shows/events at the entrance. I do think this venue would benefit from good ol' fashioned spring cleaning. The women's bathroom smells and looks so yucky, grimy and disgusting. I'm talking worse than your average bar/venue women's restroom. read more

I was unaware that St. Andrew's requires you to have a higher security clearance than TSA. I was forced to throw out over 50 dollars worth of personal items to enter their establishment. Which they said could not be any liquid items, however the items that I had were nail glue and nausea supplements (not in liquid form) that I had to throw away that were around 50+ dollars for everything. she almost took my chapstick! I am a frequent visitor and am sad that I have to empty my purse of valuable items that I can definitely take on a plane or anywhere else but can't take to a concert? Been coming here for shows as long as I can remember. This is a staple venue for really great shows from really great acts. Most recently we were drenched in nostalgia for Emo Night Brooklyn as pop punk favorites brought us back to our days of faux hawks and stretched ears. The main floor is narrow and long, which provides a great chance to see everything that happens on stage (if you're lucky enough to not get stuck behind the tallest person in the area, who we all know is contractually obligated to attend every event and find YOU). Only once have I ever been on the balcony (+44 back when Travis played with a broken arm), but it's definitely an awesome vantage point if you can get up there (extra purchase most of time). The Shelter is usually open for a coat check, and they offer another bar to alleviate some crowding on the main floor. Most events fill up which only adds to the atmosphere. Light shows can vary from house to the performer (Motion City Soundtrack recently did their own and it was killer). Drinks are average price for a concert venue, but they're at least strong! We always get quality service. Entering is a breeze with the security done outside and scanning done indoors. read more

I've been going to shows here for years. Never have a I ever had bartenders deny accepting cash as a form of payment. I also have never been denied regular water before. I enjoyed the show I paid to see but I'm really disappointed in how the bartenders treated me and the people I was with. Thumbs up for all the bands that played but thumbs down to how the bartenders treated customers on the main floor at both bars.Also when someone tells you they are deaf it's best not to try to swindle more money from them or to get attitudes when there is a miscommunication.
