I attempted to make a reservation for the harbor tour with Captain Dan for my anniversary. When I called I reached a voicemail inbox and began to leave a message, but in the middle of it someone picked up - no greeting or other info, just a very brusque "hello?" Out of simple curiosity I asked if they ever do whale watching trips at other times of year, but was abruptly interrupted by the person shouting, "why doesn't anyone ever look at the website, we don't do that here!!" I was so taken aback that I apologized and hung up. The tour genuinely looks like it would be lovely and I was interested in what Captain Dan would be able to tell us about! But I'm not about to risk continuing to being treated so rudely on a special occasion.

Booking online was super easy, we were sent a confirmation email with a number to call to confirm our tour time. Since the availability of the tour in really dependent on the tide, we did call back a couple weeks ahead to confirm and pay for the tour. Kristin helped us though the process and made it really easy and painless. Captain Dan was super nice. I appreciate all the stories and knowledge he shared about the harbor, who does what in each boat, the surrounding properties, his time in Alaska, and more. Such great conversations. We got pretty lucky because there was a couple boats selling tuna and cleaning fish so there was a lot of sea lions and seals around waiting for fish. We were on an electric boat, so it was really quiet and didn't scare away the marine life and we were able to get up close. We got to see lots of beautiful birds, he had even told us which ones to watch because they dive down and catch fish. And we did see one catch a fish! It was so cool. Such an amazing experience we'd go again the next time we're out in the area. I definitely recommend!

I let them know we could do Thursday or stay with Wednesday and was told they would get back to us early Tuesday. Well at 4:45pm on Tuesday we reached out and asked if we were on for Wednesday and was told it is a no go and they are still working on putting something together for Thursday. I get it Charters are in business to make money and just a few folks on an outing isn't profitable but to leave booked clients hanging until the 11th hour and not reach out to them is not good business. What gets me is we saw them leaving the harbor twice on Wednesday. We're assuming it was for Ash scattering based on the attire and somber faces of the passengers and the lack of visible fishing gear both times. Not a bad turn for them at $500-$600 per trip (if the rates I recall are still them same); less time, less work... Bottom line is they didn't have the courtesy to call/text us to let us know we should look for another charter, we had to reach out to find out... Too bad, we have quite a few buddies who love to fish and we'll continue to go with the charter that got us in last minute and put us on our limits...

We chose to stand on the outside deck of the train. It was a bit windy, I recommend bringing a jacket. The train ride to the Blair Bar was 20 minutes. Once we arrived the views were spectacular! It wasn't time for sunset just yet but once the sun started going down the lights became more vibrant. We immediately walked over to the bar to grab a drink. We ordered 2 old fashioneds and they were nicely poured with a good amount of whiskey. There was live music, and tons of seating around warmers and large fire pits. They offered s'mores kits and light snacks. The pits do get a bit crowded. We couldn't get a seat until the 9pm train left. Which opened up some spots around the fire pits. The whole experience was great. It made me feel like I was in a scene of Virgin River! Definitely recommend if you're ever visiting the Mendocino or Fort Bragg area of Northern California.

They are smooth, quiet and comfortable with full back support. Previous bikes had a tractor type seat with no back support. The new seats are firm so you might want to bring some padding. I talked with them about this and they were very receptive to me. Since they are electric with pedal assist, we decided to use the electric motor the entire distance. That way we focused on the experience 100% and it was delightful. A perfect, personalized lunch was provided, which added to the experience. Safety is top priority with them so with several road crossings, some with crossing arms/signals and some without, excellent care was taken to make the crossings safely. Our guide was Atlas and he was training 2 new employees. Everything went perfectly! All three of them were so kind and constantly wanted to attend to everyone's needs. I recommend you take the rail bike tour, sit back and enjoy the ride. Just imagine the amount of work that went into making the rail line over 100+ years ago. With the bikes, you sit just above the rails and can marvel at what it took to build this and any rail line. You will have a new appreciation for all railroads. You wind your way through the hills and I believe I read there is a section of the line that winds over 8 miles to actually travel a straight line of 1 mile. It is an engineering marvel. Enjoy!!!!! We stopped at 2 different RV repair shops in Ukiah. Both of them listened to our problems and then said that the earliest they could fit us in would be in three months. LOL. The last place suggested we check out NCD Painting, which also services RVs and Heavy Equipment. We pulled in, met Pete Moyer who also listened to our tale of woe. He then called over Sean, and they both began figuring out what needed to be fixed. I was expecting Pete to tell me to come back in 2 months; but no, they immediately began working on the van. They fixed the leak in our water filter. Then they tackled our gray water problem. They worked on it for 2 hours and fixed our problems and sent us on our way. Pete and Sean were incredibly nice and accommodating. They charged us a very reasonable price. And they will never see us again. Amazing people. I can't remind recommend NCD Painting enough.
