Great night with my friends at The Stone Cellar! Prices are high ($10 per small pour of wine), but the atmosphere, friendliness and food make up for it. Brandi was our waitress. She was very friendly and fast getting our items to us. We thoroughly enjoyed the live music and dance space. It seems many of the patrons were locals. They were all warm and even asked us all to dance several times. The outside perimeter has a wrap around porch that would be great for warmer months (we were there in November). The chips and queso were great. The chips themselves were piping hot. The fried green tomatoes served with ranch are delicious. I recommend this place fir anyone wanting a fun night out with small town feel and charm. read more

My family and I went to the Stone Cellar to eat pizza and have a couple of drinks. The pizza was good. The woman taking our order had the personality of a tree stump. If you want me to spend my money at your business you better act like you're happy to see me. She acted like I was putting her out by making her take my order. My review is specifically for the Jon Perez Lounge. First, I don't believe it is owned by Jon Perez. Since this lounge / restaurant opened it has gone through lots of issues-- several menu changes, different chefs / cooks, serving issues, etc. While understanding that opening a new business can be tricky, there are other things that should be a no brainer!!! Like controlling the fly problem so that you can eat without flies getting stuck in your food; serving fresh iced tea instead of rancid old tea; not being greedy with the salad toppings, and not serving wet foods (like salad) on a paper lined tray!!!! These things can be fixed easily and would make a big difference!!! The food is average, but would be tolerated if some of the obvious mistakes were corrected!!! read more

To be fair, we were there during Antiques Week, which meant a limited menu (no pizza, only panini and quesadillas) and very slow service. The site itself is lovely, with lots of seating, most of it outdoors on a huge porch. (Can get chilly once the sun goes down.) The food was average and took a long time to arrive. Part of that was certainly the crowd, but the system of walking around and asking people their names is also really inefficient. Didn't drink, so I can't speak to the quality of the brews available, though the list was extensive. There's also a couple of cold cases with sandwiches and salads and bottled water, a few sodas. Parking is a bit of a mess; getting in and out was semi-difficult. Is probably much better when there isn't a major event going on, but I'm seldom in the area, so I won't know. read more

The service was fantastic as always. Absolutely lovely, however, I just ordered the crispy tacos, and I cannot believe what I received. They were the most bland, tasteless tacos I've ever had. I just can't believe how bad they were compared to everything else on the menu. Chicken fried steak, the salmon, the burgers, and even the pork rinds, I mean it's amazing food. I really wanted to like this place, I'm all for local spots. Our 1 & only experience. Walking in it seemed "cool" pun intended, easy going. At the bar where you order, as we're doing so, we're told by what seemed to be the manager or maybe he was the owner (unknown) he says to us "you have to sit outside w/your dog". I said "not w/a service dog" he replied w/nothing at first, as though he wasn't having it but didn't know what to say to refute me. He then says "well it's cooler out there anyway". It's all the same air w/no closed doors to open, no AC, or closed windows. The air outside is the air inside. It's essentially a wooden floored barn, & you're worried about my dog. Moments later he says "oh I didn't know it was a service dog". Even with the big red vest that says "do not pet" & "service dog" he is wearing?!? But most importantly! You as a business need to ask "is this a service dog" before just saying "no dogs allowed" it's literally that simple. That was the big red flag I ignored due to hunger. So now I'm offended & I haven't finished ordering or even sat down (outside) yet. As someone who needs a service dog I'm constantly defending my need for a service dog because my multiple disabilities aren't visible to others. Discriminated against because people don't want the dog there or others fake their ESA, Therapy Animal, or Service Dog needs. I definitely felt discriminated against because I had a dog with me. Back to our experience: We sat "outside" so we didn't piss him off. I don't like causing drama due to business' ignorance. My dog wasn't a disturbance start to finish. He laid on the floor doing absolutely nothing. Had he been out of control, as a responsible owner of the Service Dog I would have removed him, never have had to. Assuming w/all the children climbing on top of the table tops, my dog would be allowed to lay on your floor "inside" We then had to move twice, Why did we have to move? I was running away from the second hand smoke that gets my sinuses so screwed up for days. GROSS! I'm "required" by this business to sit "outside" where everyone is smoking. GREAT, Thank you so much! If you require me to sit outside then give me clean air space to eat my meal! Then the large wooden blocks game... Janga. Yeah instead of playing on the grass it's played on the table behind us & every time it falls (often) it's crashing down loudly (even startling the live band "inside"). Funny that it startled us people but my dog is well trained so it didn't phase him one bit, not one reaction from him per his training! Paid too much for a salad $6 is what AT MOST it should be priced at, not $10. Being slim pickings in the area I understand their price gouging. We did pay $24 for a bottle of wine which was very tasty. Typically you buy a bottle, at the end of the meal it's corked/capped, then it's placed in a plastic bag that has a glue like seal so it's now an "unopened" bottle, you can take home w/out an open alcohol container in your vehicle. When we asked for a bag for the wine to be transported, we're handed a tote bag w/no way to seal it to make it "unopened" We either leave the bottle of wine or we break the law. That's $24 down the drain, due to your business' ignorance on the alcohol law. If you don't have a resolution then don't require that bottle of wine to be sold only by the bottle! I couldn't get a glass! The food overall was meh. The lettuce was room temp, the chicken tasted funny, too much dressing, possibly trying to mask the lack of quality. Pizza was fine. Music was nice. Servers were nice. OH & when leaving, my dog is smelling a dirt patch on the way to the vehicle so I stop. Some strange woman comes out of the darkness and says I hope you're not gonna let him poop. I replied "oh no". I always clean up after my dog! I actually found him a cow field earlier for him to relieve himself just so nothing would ever be anywhere near other people's pathways. She stood right next to me & watched my dog sniff tree bark. He peed & I stopped him from doing that because she was watching us like we were breaking the law. Wondering now if she was the owner/managers wife lol NOT DOG FRIENDLY! We felt like outsiders that weren't welcome! If I were familiar with the area I would have found a more welcoming place. We won't be back. I'm sure many locals love this place because they are treated with kindness, sadly we didn't receive the same treatment. So based off of our experience I would give it a 0 but the wine was good and the pizza was okay. High prices and uncomfortable accommodations so I'm torn on where I'd put the stars. I'll give it 2 to be nice, unlike what we received in kind. read more

I have been here a few times now and I can say this is one of the best places to go in Round Top. The pizza is always great, the sangria is delicious and the atmosphere and friendly people make it an absolute pleasure. Order anything you see with the candied jalapeños. They are very tasty and made locally. If you can, plan to go on a night when they have live music. It makes it that much better. If you are stupid (like someone who left a negative review after customizing their pizza to basically be a salad), you may just want to stay in the city and go to your favorite vegan place. I have heard very good things about this place. We decided to try it out. Thursday evening there were 2 tables outside 1 with 2 people the other 1 one. We decided to eat inside. We were the only patrons. We ordered a large meat lovers but ask to leave off 2 of the meats. I was told they do not do substitutions but since they were slow she would. We then ordered a salad with no onions. I was told "YOU REALLY NEED TO STOP WITH THE SUBSTITUTIONS " I told her if they could not make it without onions we would eat it. So they lost the sale of 2 salads. I could understand if they were busy but there were a total of 5 customers. Terrible customer service. It was my first and last trip here. To Denise the manager. I didn't really think I should have needed a managers approval to have onions not placed on a salad or 2 meats not placed on a pizza. I also understand Antique week and how busy you can get. I live locally and have been going for years. There were only 5 Customers including us. We were treated rudely for no valid reason. We should have just left. We walked in after a long day out in the sun. They have no A/C which was off putting as it's 90 degrees out, but not a deal breaker. The staff completely ignored us. We sat ourselves and looked at the menu that had about 15 items on it. Once we went to order they were not serving pizza at all that day. We ended up walking out. I have not idea how these people do any business if the staff can't be bothered to serve anyone. Edited to add: This establishment was published in all the guides and booklets as being a local food source. If you can't serve customers I'd recommend not advertising that you can. The SO and I were in Round Top for an afternoon of small town-ness and a concert at the Festival Institute, and we thought a glass of wine would be a good pre-game plan. We stepped into Stone Cellars and it seemed nice enough. We approached the right side of bar, and found two female bartenders casually chatting with a few patrons seated in stools. After standing there for a few minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff, we started to get a little antsy. While we were waiting to be acknowledged by one of the two unoccupied bartenders, a big old dude walked up to the far end (left side) of the bar, and ordered a beer. Just like that, the bartender served him, without giving us a glance. After the big old boy left, the bartender turned to us, and said, "You can come over to this side of the bar if you want us to take your order." No, I don't think so. F' that. We stared at her, and then we stared down at the empty portion of the bar in front of us. Then, we simply walked out of the place without another word to her. Stone Cellar, this is how you're going to treat your patrons? Making us feel unimportant and unworthy of service? It's not like there were any "order here" signs posted, so we weren't breaking any sort of obvious rule. You run a bar. You're behind the bar. I'm in front of the bar. Don't waste your time reading these old reviews! Went last nite and my wife went to a party there today.. There is NO service provided. You have to go to the bar to order and pick up all drinks. They will deliver your pizza which has certainly been frozen prior to delivery. It took us twenty minutes to pay our bill last nite..had to wait in line behind all the people trying to get drinks from the one bartender! The WORST. Don't waste your time or money! read more

4 stars for the fact that the population of this cute little town of Roundtop, TX is 90, yes only 90. They have tons of visitors but how can you pay the rent on that.
