While there aren't many options, in Burton, Los Patrones is hardly considered settling or a default choice. Prices are a little high, but the portions are HUGE! Plan on sharing or asking for a box. The queso and salsa are also quite good and easy to fill up on (so I hear :) ) The chili relleño with chicken, and the stuffed avocado are some of my favorite dishes here. Don't get the hype. First off the sweet tea was so sweet I couldn't drink it. I asked the waiter to bring us each a half a glass of unsweet tea to mix it with he only brought one so the next time he finally came by I just had him switch mine for a Coke, the queso on my puff was so runny it just made my taco and my Chalupa break apart before I could eat them. The whole plate was a soggy mess. Charro beans had so much other stuff in it could hardly find beans! Hot sauce was just that just hot not a lot of flavor. No military discount! Very expensive! For a small town with only a few choices for eating out, Burton has an outstanding Mexican restaurant in Los Patrones. Honestly, we had pretty low expectations going there, but their chili rellenos and cheese enchiladas changed our minds. Great chips and salsa was a bonus. We stopped in Burton on the way home from Austin. It was a delightful find! The outside is plain and an assuming. We actually drove past it. But once inside, it was full of charm. It's about a mile off the highway, but well worth the two minute drive! And the food was exceptional! We are picky about Tex Mex. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The margaritas on the rocks were freshly made and well done. We just found a new "must stop" on our way to Austin. And back! read more

I ate there on Thursday 11/21/24 early evening. Within an hour of leaving I knew I was in trouble. I had food poisoning. I can't be the only one. There were two long tables full of ladies celebrating something. I hope they are ok. I however am still sick. On my now year old quest for a good Mexican restaurant I came across this establishment in the area so de I decided l would make a stop.. As always I must start off with the service. Excellent with the staff is very attentive and on the ball with all tables. I will say that when I walked in and as I observed customers entering I became concerned due the overwhelming demographics that I had found myself in one of those gringo Mexican restaurants that is not traditional Tex-Mex. Well let's see if that is the case. After reviewing the extensive menu I finally decided on the one dish I use to judge all Mexican restaurants, carne guisada which comes with refried beans, Spanish rice and guacamole. I also added a side of cheese enchiladas and of course maize tortillas. As the chips and salsa where placed on my table I immediately dove into red sauce which was very tasty with just a hint of heat. A good start. Now the plate arrives and it blatantly clear this is not your traditional hole-in-the-wall carne guisada I have come to love but some interpretation to match the local population...yes, gringo food which I feel I can say because I am one of those. Since it still looked acceptable even if not what I was hoping it to be so let's dig in by opening the foil that the tortillas came in. How deeply disappointing it was to discover it was those very thin tortillas that harden immediately upon being exposed to air. I call these tortilla frisbees. From here my expectations are low so I decided to take a bite of the guisada. Though it was clearly not the carne guisada of my favorite neighborhood Mexican restaurant with its cheap fatty meat and brown gravy from San Antonio it was tasty instead being a more upscale cut of beef. All the sides where pretty good including the generous portion of guacamole. Though this place was not what I was looking for in my quest for decent Tex-Amex requiring me to continue fir journey I did find the service and food tasty, minus the very disappointing maize tortillas, and though I do not see myself going out of my way often to come here I would consider bringing a date or stopping by on an occasional visit to the awesome antique store next door. read more

I feel certain that I can call myself a repeat customer. I've been coming here once a week for the last few weeks and I am always impressed with the food and service. I've tried: El Mariachi, Shrimp quesadillas, chicken quesadillas and poblano chicken. All great. Pictured you can see poblano chicken and El Hacienda combo platter. We ordered to-go (Thanks a lot 'Rona) and enjoyed our food at home. Along with my food I enjoyed a strawberry margarita. I have tried most of the flavors at this point, including: mango, sangria, peach and strawberry. One is enough to get the party started... I've heard they have a secret recipe. I don't know what's in these margs, but they keep you coming back! The owners are likable and I want them to stay in business for years to come. Burton people are lucky to have this place. read more

This place was in the sticks to me, off the path. Trust me when I say " get off the path"The food was exceptional. If you're looking for fancy this is not your place, but if you're looking for good food, you've found it. I had the simple beef enchiladas, but I also sampled food from around the table. Stopped here after a long day at Round Top and we were STARVING! The margaritas (on the rocks) were perfect! The chips and salsa were great. The venue itself sneaks up on you, we had to go around the block because we missed it. Everyone ordered something different (California burrito, a combo platter, flautas, ribeye) and everyone was happy. The combo platter had a tamale which was so yummy. The only complaint it, there was 3 woman seating people and one poor guy running his ass off serving everyone.
