I went to this place for my wedding flowers. And Amy did a great job. During the planning process, she gave honest opinion and options. She was willing to work within my budget and she laid out all those options and explained to me the reason for price differences and whether it's worth to do so or not. She designed a simple and elegant centerpiece for our wedding. It was very popular among the guests - all 20 centerpieces were taken away by the wedding guests once the reception was over. (Yes, there was actually battle over who-got-the-centerpiece in my wedding. What a surprise!) The quality of the work is great. She gave me one of the most elegant bouquet ever. Wow. What can I say. I've been a regular here for many many years. Everytime I need flowers, I just call Amy and she tends to all my needs. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Valentine's Day, Weddings, Proms, and random special occasions......you name it. I suggest you pick this place and stick to it. Once "Amy" remembers who you are, you get a nice discount for being a repeat customer. I usually ask for Orchids or Red Roses since it's my mothers favorite.... and its been a wonderful experience every time. Her prices are very fair and her roses smell heavenly. All in all.... I came to the Floral Designer because it's around the corner from my apartment. If I knew this was the type of experience I would have, I would have walked three more blocks to the Plant Warehouse. I came in with my own planter, looking for some succulents. I asked how many it would take to fit inside my planter, she said two and each were $5.95. So I figured it would cost about $12 but sadly that was not the case. She filled my planter with the two succulents and a handful of dirt. It turns out that, that handful of dirt cost $7. I didn't know what to say when she rang me up; I assume the dirt would be free since it was so little. She also charged me for the used of my Visa card without mentioning that there would be a fee. I needed the plants for a housewarming present but in hindsight I should have said, "no, I'm not going to pay the extra $8.50." and just walked away and just bought a bottle of wine instead. I know $8.50 is not a large sum of money but I felt totally cheated. The worst part is the plants look awful. read more

My first time ordering from The Floral Designer and they certainly didn't disappoint in so many ways. My original order could not be fulfilled and was contacted immediately to inform me (I was no help in making that an easy task as the area code in my contact info was incorrect, my error (or my darn iPhone(?)). Due to their quick thinking that just maybe my area code was the same as the recipients area code...brilllant! They got a hold of me and were able to fulfill my floral delivery same day and we're very generous with keeping the price the same! The recipient loves the arrangement for his birthday! Thank you! AVOID THIS PLACE!!! AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! I ordered an "Anniversary Bouquet," so obviously the date of delivery was important. Floral Designer has no common sense, as they delivered the flowers after 5:00pm to my wife's business. When I called FTD to complain they said "We are very sorry, that's not acceptable. We will refund your money." Apparently FTD then told Floral Designer that they would not be paid because the bouquet was delivered too late, and that's when it got ugly. Floral Designer lied to FTD and said they delivered the flowers at 4:15pm and they proceeded to harass my wife's receptionist, calling numerous times insisting that she tell me and FTD they had delivered the flowers before 5:00pm (my wife was there until 5:15 and the receptionist told her the flowers came after she left). They blamed the receptionist and refused to apologize for delivering the flowers so late in the day. They told FTD 4:15 and they told me personally that it was actually 4:30. Even if it was 4:15, or 4:30, which it wasn't, that's obviously unacceptable and unprofessional. I was so embarrassed that this florist felt it necessary to lie to FTD and say the flowers were delivered earlier than they actually were, and then harass the receptionist by calling so many times and telling her to tell me they were there earlier than they were. When I called Floral Designer and asked that they stop calling and harassing the poor receptionist they said they would not stop calling until they were paid. I told them to stop calling and that their problem was with FTD. "Amy" again told me she would only stop calling if she was paid. I told her I had no control over what FTD did or did not do with their contractors. She insisted that the flowers were delivered before five and that she was told by the driver that they were dropped off at 4:30 and would not agree to stop with the phone calls unless she got her money. What a complete mess, and all I was trying to do was get my wife some flowers. I recommend that all Yelpers AVOID Floral Designer as they are incapable of using common sense (e.g. get anniversary flowers to a business at a reasonable hour on the date requested) and they also refuse to accept responsibility for their failings. In the end I'm sure that FTD paid this terrible business because I had to resort to calling FTD again, speaking with a manager, and waiting on hold while FTD called Floral Designer and told them to stop calling my wife's place of business. I told them that I didn't care about a refund and that all I wanted was for Floral Designer to stop calling and leave the receptionist alone. Really one of the worst experiences I've had with any business. Ever. read more

My son lives in the UK and sent me a floral arrangement for Mother's Day. The arrangement was something a first grader could have put together and the roses were spent and quite sad looking. I feel bad for my son because I know he spent a lot and had great expectations. Perhaps this is a great place to walk into and get flowers that you can choose but I would not trust them to send an arrangement sight unseen. read more

This is a most unprincipled and deceitful business. A family member recovering from surgery was sent a bouquet of flowers which was a most lovely gesture from the Sender. The delivery was made hours beyond the industry's 5pm delivery cut off time and the elderly family members had already gone to bed. The substandard quality of flowers and damaged vase were absolutely unbelievable! Without question, the majority of the flowers in the arrangement were beyond their floral "shelf life". Upon delivery only one of the lilies had their orange stamens intact and appeared fresh. The orange stamens of all the other lilies had long since fallen off and the stamens tips were brown, their petal's edges were wilted and the latter started to turn brown after one day. Lilies are such a favorable cut flower not only for their beautiful appearance and scent, but also for their very long floral "shelf life", and typically enjoyed for weeks. The arrangement's stock were also terribly wilted and, like the lilies, were long beyond their floral "shelf life". Then to add insult to injury, the rim of the arrangement's glass bowl was significant damaged with a jagged 1/2+ inch portion of the rim broken away, and so prominent, it's use was intentional and could never be accepted as "oversight" as claimed by the Florist. The morning after the late evening delivery, a call was made to the Florist and the deplorable conditional of their arrangement explained; photographs were offered to substantiate the complaint. A replacement arrangement was requested and the original delivery was left at the front door for the Florist's pickup when the replacement arrangement would be delivered. The Sender would not be notified of this incident as their intentions were, and remain, a lovely gesture. What happened next was beyond comprehension! The Florist started bashing and pointing fault with the Sender who placed the order. She said the Sender sent them a picture of exactly what they wanted and the price they paid was so cheap, advising of the price paid by the Sender, that they would not provide a replacement arrangement nor make any other corrections. So if you're looking for a Florist whose arrangements are made with (1) Flowers well beyond their floral "shelf life" that should have been trashed; (2) Significantly damaged vases; and (3) Points fault at you, the Sender, and tells the Recipient how much you, the Sender, paid for the arrangement and states you, the Sender, is cheap and demanding when complaint are made about the quality of the Florist's arrangements.... .....well then, this place is for you! read more

I have been using Floral Designer for a number of years now to supply the beautiful boutonnieres my chorus, Golden Gate Men's Chorus, wears for our Holiday Concerts, as well as presentation bouquets for our special occasions. Amy is so gracious and helpful (and always remembers me and my chorus) when I call to place an order. In my long experience with Floral Designer my orders have been completed in a timely fashion every time whether they are delivered or I pick them up at the shop. Yesterday, I picked up the boutonnieres for this years concerts; plump deep red roses with just the right amount of delicate greenery to set them off--such artistry! And I know, with proper care they will remain fresh through our final concert. Amy really makes ME look good to my chorus! I use Amy for personal orders as well, and have had zero problems.
