It was unfortunate the reason I had to contact the flower shop. A sudden loss in my family of someone truly loved and truly from SF could not have been celebrated any better than with the beautiful spray Ed and his florists made for me. I wanted to get flowers from SF natives, this is a long standing, generational florist shop in Chinatown - Ed knows the city and can get your florals where you need promptly. I asked for a yellow and white spray with accents of purple and that's exactly what I got. The arrangement was lush and flowers diverse (it was a hard day), so we do not have many photos and the ones we do don't do it justice. The grandfather started in Ross alley, famous for the popular Golden Gate Fortune Cookie factory and the erh hu playing barber seen in Will Smith's " Pursuit of Happiness " movie. They've since moved to Waverly Place. These days, my florist orders are mostly of the 'get well' variety or funeral arrangements. I recently stopped in to order two arrangements for a funeral for two groups of friends. The process was easy as I gave him a budget, the information (who, when, and where), and asked him to text me photos. I forwarded them to my friends and everything was smoothly done. The owner even offered to buy me lunch, but probably more because I haven't seen him in ages. Hope you need flowers for happier occasions and better circumstances, but, for my situations, they filled my needs. read more

I didn't think about I would comment a flower store ever. This is my first time to purchase a flower tub for my frd's restaurant grand opening. I ordered one day before. Unfortunately, I need to place order through the phone since I unable to come to store. Other nearby flower shop is still running the pretty old school style business which I can't place order through the phone. I feel lucky I found Canton Flower Shop. A women took my order, I believe she is Lisa what other comments mention with. She told me flower is 125$, tree is 135. She recommend me picked tree because it stays longer than flower. Ok... I picked tree. Anyways, I have no idea why she ended up charged me $165? Well. $165 is not too bad, but compared to other people's flower tub. This one is small, and didn't look pretty like other people and they only paid for 100$. I asked her to send me pictures after she made it, and she didn't. I figured that out how my flower tub looked like today when I saw my frd's picture. ( yes, I did not go on that day). Other thing is I don't get why they only put SUCCESS on the ribbon. Like really? That's ALL? I thought Canton flower store is pretty professional and historic store that they should know what to write more than just success?! I expect they put some good Chinese words other than Success, like really funny! Who would put that? I mean I can't say that's not right, but it looks so weird... The Jew Family has been in business since 1915. During that time, they were known for sending home "remains" of Chinese citizens back to their home/village. For those who had funeral ceremonies or celebrations, this would be the store you would order your flower arrangments standing on wooden tripods written in Chinese caligraphy. All the 1-star reviews about Canton Flower Shop are correct. I totally agree. Lisa, the manager who was also a great salesperson, and that's all she does. She would promise us this and that, but does not deliver. When we drop by the day to order, she showed us pictures of past jobs. We chose our color scheme and let Lisa know. Again, promises were made. Well, guess what? On the day of, the flowers were delivered, but it was nothing like the pictures nor the color scheme we wanted. Most importantly, Lisa changed an important decision without consulting us. No phone calls, no notification. We found out there and then. We called Lisa and she said she "thought it was a better idea to make that change." That was NOT acceptable. I do NOT recommend Canton Flower Shop to anyone. read more

I recently spoke to Lisa requesting flowers for delivery to my Mom's memorial service. Lisa was a pleasure to work with, she is very helpful and professional. I ordered four flower sprays and a casket flower and requested personalized Chinese ribbons for each of them. The flowers sprays were incredibly beautiful and the flower casket's red roses and white lily flowers were huuuge and very fresh. My sisters and I could not have been more pleased with their presentations. The Chinese personalized ribbon on each spray really added an extra special touch. Our mother passed away recently and we went to our family florist Mei Wo and were shocked they were closed (it had been a long while since we purchased flowers). We went searching for another florist shop in the SF chinatown area and ran across the Canton Flower Shop. What a fortuitous find! We are third generation American born Chinese, whose mom was born in China so we wanted to make sure we generally followed the Chinese funeral customs. Turns out you are not only buying flowers from Ed and his wife you are buying a cultural education. Ed tutored us in what the Chinese customs were with flowers: the number of displays required, the appropriate colors of flowers (turns out my mom lived long enough that no restrictions applied), and the types of displays required with respect to birth order. Not only did Ed and his wife talk flowers, they explained a bunch of other Chinese customs like the funeral procession past our mom's house and the meal that is served after the burial, which I learned is supposed to be "bland", so the food does not become the center of attention and allow family and friends to commiserate about the deceased. Losing our mom was a sad experience but having Ed and his wife walk us thru the Chinese traditions and expectations made it a venerable experience.
