But after an afternoon at the museum, I just wanted to sit down and enjoy a coffee. The 2 lovely ladies at the counter were very helpful. They boxed up 4 non-fruit eclairs for me - vanilla, hazelnut, pistachio and coffee. They also made me a lovely latte. I brought the eclairs home for post-dinner dessert. I have to say the pistachio was my favourite. The coffee eclair however was a perfect finish. Lower in sweetness than the others, it's like finishing your meal with an espresso.

After the Flan I went on to share a personal-sized Mushroom Pizza (with ham; £5) and a Salade Goat Cheese (£12) which was different than what I'd expected. Rather than placing fresh goat cheese into the salad itself, the cheese was warmed atop sliced toasts, then laid around the salad. Did I mention there was a ton of goat cheese? There was. Between that and the English Bacon liberally topping the salad, this was the richest goat cheese salad I'd ever had and I couldn't come close to finishing the cheese and toasts. Luckily, the salad itself was quite good and, featuring a Dijon Vinaigrette, quite French inspired. The high tea area is behind the bakery and it's much quieter and more intimate :) Decor was super cute and fancy; very festive for the holidays. We ordered the standard high tea which came with 5-6 savory bites and 5-6 sweet bites. After getting the tea, service went downhill. Three new parties were seated AND a party of 5 got their food before us (party of 4) along with two other tables who were seated after us. Order at the counter and either take it to go or grab a seat and they will bring most things to you. If you're ordering bakery items they will give them to you right at the counter. If you're eating in prices are slightly higher (like most places in the UK. My kids all had the watermelon ice cream. We figured they were so big that we would eat the leftovers. That didn't happen. Instead of a bun or roll, the social is more of a buttery brioche-like bread with custard that gets baked in, and I personally love custard (although this may not be for you if you do not like custard in your pastries)! It is probably not an authentic Danish pastry, but I think it does the job well!

After telling them this, I was quickly handed the pastry and a napkin so that he could continue with his next order. I stood at the desk re-arranging the contents of the bag so it wouldn't come out looking like a squashed pile of bread, but as I went to grab the napkin, he'd already taken it off the desk and handed it to someone else for their meal instead! Not at all the service I expect after having been coming here most mornings for over a year. Everyone knows that Pret in general is a bit pricey, but even for the sake of convenience I'm not sure I'll continue to be a 'loyal customer' much longer.
