Walking right in is the louder pub bar area, to the right is a quieter spacious large industrial room with full wait service from the friendly staff. Great local craft beers! £18 FISH & CHIPS! A beautiful chunk of fresh cod in a thick crispy hot batter made with Canterbury Brewers beer...lovely! And about £2 cheaper than average! Off the main drag in Canterbury, this place is well worth a visit. It can be a little challenging to find (we were walking) as google might lead you to a bit of a dead end, but just keep going around the corner and you'll pop right into it. A nice airy space with high and low tables and a long bar. Love the sustainable and local focus. Really pleasant server and barkeep as well. We ordered the bubble and squeak starter which was a new one for us Americans. I had the steak and Foundry Ale pie which was incredible. Exectly how you want this sort of thing - loaded with tender meat and veg and a huge, flaky crust. He had the hunters chicken which I heard no complaints about. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding and it was one of the best things I ate during our travels. Loved the sparkling fruit cider that I ordered: fresh and bright and bubbly. Food was so good, but was a classic "maybe I'm just starving." I got the battered cod sandwich with brown bread toasted, and mmmmmm!!!! It came with a side salad that already had horseradish dressing on it, and usually that's a pass for me, and a strike, but it just went so well I wasn't mad. I have not eaten here yet, but my Brother in Law just brought me a sample bottle of their craft Gin and its amazing! Its one of the most diverse tasting and unusual gins i have had. I put it righr up there with the private gin Lance used to make before he scaled up to make St George's Botanical. I cant wait to gwt back and have some brews and food. read more

This place has quite an extensive list of tap beers offered, a lot which are brewed in-house and they are quite delicious and full bodied. The atmosphere is cute but large for big parties. The service was great and the portions were huge for the affordable price. It did take us 50min to get our food, which sort of threw off our time visiting Canterbury for the day. The BBQ burger was alright, the Mac n cheese was very yummy, the fish and chips as well as BBQ brisket and pork roast were excellent. This place definitely deserves a try- it even has outdoor seating for a lovely warm day. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is the food took too long, and the women's toilets had no soap (not even a dispenser), one stall had urine everywhere and the other stall was overflowed. The foundry was a restaurant that I have been looking forward to going to for a long time we went last night and myself my two sons and my three grandchildren went out for a meal the food was disappointing I had the ribs and they were very fatty my son wants to order a steak and ale pie and it was bland and the meat was tough my children my grandchildren ordered burgers they wereThey were burned and my son ordered the brisket it was a very small amount and tasted dreadful read more

The food was a little disappointing. The nachos were great. The ribs were good. The fajitas too. The Sunday roast, and the burgers were average at best. Environment: This place is a clean and fresh feeling pub. My husband and I ran into the place and met the absolute friendliest people here. It is a very smart crowd too, on a regular day we met a biochemist and on another physicist, both of them very down to earth. Because this is a micro-brewerery, they have some of the set up in view for the pub, which brings an easy-felt setting to the place. On the weekends, this is the place to be. There is a down and upstairs, downstairs is more relaxed and upstairs is a nice dance setting with a DJ & bar. CLEAN bathrooms, Easy to find off of High Street. Like most facilities in the area, I believe it is non-smoking. The Bar: Just about all the beer on tap they have made themselves and the people there had no problem letting me sample them before I ordered a pint. I also found one of the best ciders I've had [not made by the brewery, but regularly available]. The Food: I love BBQ, I'm from Houston, TX [USA] and if you know the area we are big on brisket and BBQ. I hate to say it, but the traditional style ribs here are off-the-wall good. My hubby said they were the best he ever had. These were so tender they pulled off the bone. That is wonderful for someone like my husband who hates bone-in foods. Also, we had the garlic cheese bread, we thought we were getting a very sharp cheese, but in reality we had a very fresh garlic spread that gave this food and excellent kick. The bread may not be for everyone as it has a pungent kick, but I love those strong flavors. Pricing: The food is typical for the area, I believe about 3-4 pounds per Pint, and ranging on food. I think the rib plate [don't quote me on this] was rounded about 10 pounds. My husband and I were sad to leave, packed a beer growler for the plane and are distraught that we don't have such an awesome place back home. I believe you should try it once. read more

Love this place!!! The building is awesome. Staff friendly & knowledgeable. Food delicious. I had the best salad I have had in years! Fresh apples, grapes, nuts, greens & smooth but flavorful Stilton. The dressing tied it all together without overwhelming. Yummy. Hubby just went with Hummus & Falafel. VERY tasty. The beer is outrageous and I am working my way through their gins. So wonderful! Of course we leave tomorrow so we can't return. Otherwise I would come here everyday of vacation; it is that good. We came back after our first great experience. Their beers and ciders are really really good. A lot of great variety and each one we tried was delicious. My faves were the Strawberry Sparkling Cider, IPA, and Oak Aged Cherry. They also have an extensive gin and tonic menu. Their food is wonderful as well. The sandwiches are huge, fish and chips was hearty and delicious, and their soup that day was also good. And very reasonable prices. Can't say enough good things about this gem. read more
