We have spent more than 5 years staying at The Fox and the Grapes for our wine tasting weekends. In fact, we were married here on 10-10-10 by Jim, the former innkeeper. We met Kim & Bud, the new owners, this past weekend when we returned for one of our wine club pickups. They are a lovely couple, and this grande dame of a house is in great hands. My husband and I enjoyed visiting with them and sharing our stories of the Fingerlakes and hearing about how they came to the area and love it as we do. We will definitely return again. read more

The standard has been set high for us since this was our first b&b in our 27 years of marriage. We stayed at the Fox and the Grapes for the December Deck the Halls 2017 event. This b&b is absolutely beautiful and their fireplace in the expansive great room is warm and inviting. My highest compliments go out to Bud & Kim for their delicious breakfast each morning of our stay. Their attention to detail is very much appreciated as Bud & Kim are wonderful hosts while taking care of us. P.s. Guinness is the sweetest pup ever. read more

My husband and I just returned from the Fox & the Grapes B&B and we thought it was great! This was our first visit to the Finger Lakes area and we chose to stay on Seneca Lake for the Wine Trail and proximity to Watkins Glen, as we wanted to visit the State Park. We stayed 2 nights and probably should have done 3, just because the drive is long from CT. The Fox & the Grapes is a great place to stay and the breakfast is amazing! I should have taken a picture but I couldn't wait to dig in each morning! There are 5 rooms each with a private bathroom. We stayed in the East Lake Room, which was a nice size and very comfortable. However, you only have a small limited view of the lake from a side window, so if that's your thing you should choose a different room. We noticed that the room across the hall from us, The Balcony, indeed had it's own private balcony, which looked great. I don't think it was available when I booked our stay. Each room has it's own air conditioner which we did need for sleeping because it was still August and I am so used to sleeping with it. Some other great features include a huge wrap around deck with plenty of seating and a gorgeous view of the lake, beautifully maintained grounds, a great room with seating, TV and fireplace, if you want to stay inside, and 2 great dogs who have the run of the place. There are many great wineries within minutes and you are 15 minutes from Watkins Glen. The State Park is amazing and a must visit, as long as you can walk and handle steep climbs. So glad we made this trip and I would highly recommend the Fox & the Grapes to anyone planning a stay on Seneca Lake! read more

I was inspired to write this after reading a newspaper article that suggested that staying at a B&Bs is invariably a miserable experience. I spent a wonderful weekend at The Fox & The Grapes last fall, an experience that very much belies the snarky article I have just read (which was about B&Bs generally, and not about F&G specifically). F&G is an unassumingly grand old late 19th - early 20th c. home situated high above the shores of Lake Seneca. It has expansive lake views and is situated amongst the many wineries in the Lodi / Finger Lakes area--indeed it's so close to neighboring winemakers that after my third or so tasting of the day, while still cognizant of my fading sobriety, I opted to walk to two of the nearer vineyards--Silver Thread and Wagner--for my final tastings of the day. The setting is simply great for lovers of summer, fall and/or booze. The room I had was appointed with restored vintage furniture consistent with the house's period of origin, with the exception of the private bath, which was very clean and had been updated within the last 5 years or so. The bedroom was quiet and private and afforded me with two divine nights' sleep--one after driving some eight-plus hours from Boston, and another after getting rather intoxicated at the wedding I'd come to Lodi to attend (my sister always says that, "drunk sleep is not good sleep," but I do have to disagree with her on this point). F&G hosts Kim and Bud Wagner were friendly, unobtrusive, and helpful. They called when I missed my arrival window and were highly accommodating when I finally arrived. Kim appears to do the "breakfasting" here, and she does it very well--excellent stuffed French toast as advertised. Bud and Kim have (or perhaps had?--the girl dog was really old) two dogs; I like dogs, so, if anything, I saw this as a plus, but I am aware that others might have misgivings about dogs--even very friendly, well-behaved ones as Kim and Bud's dogs were. F&G is not The Ritz, but if you like the ethos of the Finger Lakes region--and one assumes you must if you're going there (or if you're attending a wedding!)--I think you'll enjoy F&G. By chance, many of the other guests staying at F&G when I stayed were attending same the wedding I was going to, and all (many of whom were sophisticated city-types like me!) seemed pleased with the experience (which gets to another of the charms of a B&B--you actually talk to strangers!). This was our first experience at a bed and breakfast and it didn't disappoint! The grounds were lovely and out hosts even lovelier! They made the experience very easy and the food was downright amazing - stuffed french toast, apple crumble one day and veggie frittata with fresh fruit the next (I'm a vegetarian and they were very accommodating!!!) also, there was a resident dog - Guinness who made the experience twenty times better. He was so sweet and happy to greet everyone!!! Would totally recommend!!! read more

What an excellent little B&B! We stayed here last weekend to do some wine tasting, and this is a very good and central location for exploring the wineries and restaurants and farms around the seneca and cayuga lake area. The owners were really nice, and great breakfast was served each morning with local ingredients. The plus was a pretty view of Seneca Lake from the deck! I would definitely stay here again, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The one star reviewer below hasn't got a clue and should not be reviewing a place she has never visited. read more

We loved staying at The Fox and The Grapes. Kim and Bud are warm and inviting. The house is spectacular. An old Victorian with beautiful woodwork and gleaming original floors. The house is comfortable and has WIfi and Dish TV and air conditioning. We ate breakfast on the porch overlooking Seneca lake. The breakfast was plentiful and absolutely delicious. If you've never been to the area it is perfect for a visit to the fabulous wineries and breweries. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

My wife and I have been to a few B&B's in this area over the past few years and our experience at The Fox and the Grapes was by far the best. Everything you could want out of a B&B was a home run here. Extremely clean house/rooms, delicious breakfast, outstanding host and hostess, and great location. They had a great deck where we were able to enjoy the view of Seneca Lake with a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. Thanks for a great stay Bud and Kim. read more

I would give this place four stars except for the crippling bed situation. The room we had literally included a bed with such a worn out or weak mattress that we had to sleep with our heads at the foot of the bed in order to keep them above our toes. The room itself was nicely decorated and would have been comfortable except for the terrible mattress. Despite this serious drawback, the location is beautiful and convenient for wine tasting and some nice restaurants, and includes large, beautiful lawns for crochet and bocci ball or just lounging around. The views at breakfast on the patio are also stunning, and the breakfast was delicious. If they could get the bed situation worked out, I'd definitely come back. read more

Stopped to ask about staying at the place and was quickly asked what we were doing there and ushered to the door because was hadn't called in advance. Horrible common area with worn out furniture and carpeting. Very dirty carpeted staircase and unkept furnishings. Probably the most unwelcome we have experienced in the Finger Lakes. We had a lovely stay at the Fox and the Grapes B&B. The home is beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful. I was worried about traffic noise from the road, but it was completely quiet at night. Our room, the suite, was spacious and spotless, with a super comfortable bed. Kim and Bud were very friendly and helped us figure out which restaurants and wineries to visit. We share all the wonderful feelings about The Fox & The Grapes B&B expressed by prior visitors. It is a beautiful setting in a beautiful part of the state. And we had quiet sleep, comfortable accommodations and great food. But we also had a flat tire, first noticed in the parking lot coming back from dinner at a nearby restaurant, when it was still (barely) good enough to drive on. Totally gone by morning. And God bless Bud -- not only is he the man of the house, and a gracious host with Kim -- he's also a former auto mechanic, with a FULLY equipped tool box. He helped us get the ornery old tire off, and mount the spare, all without even stopping to consider whether it was part of his job description, which it certainly isn't assumed to be. I visited The Fox and the Grapes this past weekend with a group of friends and family to celebrate my sister's upcoming wedding. We had a wonderful stay! The rooms were clean and comfortable and the building and grounds are beautiful. Breakfast and coffee on the deck each morning was a highlight for sure! Bud and Kim were very welcoming hosts and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Also, the location is convenient for visiting many of the local wineries, events and other attractions. We stayed at this quaint B&B recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rose prepared breakfast daily and it was excellent! The room we stayed in (Stella) was a nice size and had a nice view of the lake (though the windows were foggy in the AM) and it had no TV (I would have actually preferred one). There is free WIFI - which is nice. It wasn't busy (though we did come at a slow time) but it is at a great spot on Seneca lake - very central to wineries etc etc. We enjoyed are stay and the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend Fox and The Grapes B&B. read more

We loved staying at The Fox and the Grapes. Exactly what a country bed and breakfast should be The house is beautifully set on the lake with a swing and a small pond and a lot of privacy. The interiors are charming but clean and fresh - no squeaky floors or dingy rooms. Our bedroom was great - comfortable king sized beds, space to read and an up to date spacious bath - all with a lake view! Kim and Bud (and Guinness the dog) were fantastic hosts. Breakfast was delicious and they were happy to provide tourist information and guide us to the best local spots. We would love to come back stay here again! read more

We stayed at Fox and Grapes B and B this past weekend 7/27-2/29/18 for a reunion with two other couples. We could not have been happier in our stay-Bud and Kim are wonderful hosts ( they have a super-friendly dog too!). They shared restaurant tips, recommended local walks, and favorite places to swim. Their B and B is lovely, especially the inviting porch with a view of the lake. I appreciated their effort in providing me with delicious vegan breakfasts. I hope we have a chance to return someday. read more

My husband and I indulged in a "mini moon" at the Fox & The Grapes after getting married at a nearby lake. It was just perfect. Bud and Kim cook wonderful breakfasts -- stuffed french toast with bacon and herb and cheese-filled frittatas -- and invite guests to enjoy fantastic views of their gardens and the lake from their wrap-around porch. They gave us great tips on local hikes and sailboat tours of the lake. A benefit of their central location is that they actually neighbor a rolling vineyard and winery. We recommend a stroll around the vineyard after enjoying the al fresco breakfast! read more

Fantastic experience! We are not bed and breakfast people, however we will definitely come back and stay at fox and the grapes. All around a great experience - Bud and Kim are delightful and so accommodating! I eat a vegan diet and Kim made delicious vegan breakfast for me each morning. We stayed here for the Deck The Halls Wine Trail at the end of November 2010. This was a gorgeous place. My parents had the room with the balcony, my boyfriend and I stayed in the room across the hall and my brother stayed in the room next to ours. The area has plenty to do with the wineries so we weren't at the B&B for too long before we would be out again but it was very nice when we were there. The owner is very friendly and has some yummy recipes hat he cooks up for breakfast. Both mornings we ate there were completely different meals and both were great. And the fireplace in the large family room/great room was very nice to cozy up in front of at the end of the day. Great experience, look forward to doing it again in a couple years. read more

My wife and I were looking for a nice peaceful get away in the Finger Lakes Region so we can explore some wineries, brewery's and enjoy some peaceful romantic alone time. We chose the Fox and the Grape due to its central location to the various wineries, State Parks by the Falls and restaurants. We were not disappointed. The B&B was clean and charming. The owner, James very nice, friendly and a wealth of information on where to go, and what to do. His "assistant", Lisa is just as wonderful, ask her anything about the area and she will point you in the right direction. Want to sample sweet wines, no problem Lisa knows where to send you, want dry full body reds, no problem for Lisa and she is spot on. Knows where to send you and away from the bus loads that frequent the area on week-ends. Breakfast is made by James who is amazing in the kitchen and when he is busy Blanch is a cracker jack in the kitchen with home made breads and pastries and stomach stuffing entries. You cannot leave on an empty stomach especially if you are going wine tasting. There is a great room for all the guests to mingle and that serves as the TV room. James lets you run the house except for the Private Areas where he resides in the house. There is a big porch overlooking the lake where you sit and marvel at the beauty that is Seneca Lake. If, no make that when my wife and I return to the Finger Lakes I will book the Thaddius Room with the wonderful king bed, private bath and small sitting area. Beautiful old world charm... Arrived on Friday and were greeted by owners, Kim & Bud. We were given a tour of the B&B which was beautiful. The Inn has been totally restored, boasting hard wood trim throughout complete with massive pocket doors. Original pine plank floors add to the charm. There is a large sitting room, complete with fireplace. Here you can meet other guests for some interesting conversation, watch some TV, or sip a little wine from your day's expedition along the wine tasting trail. There also is a second smaller, more quaint room for those who wish some solace and of course, some wine sipping. In addition to the magnificent ambiance, the Inn is spotless! Thank you Kim & Bud. We were shown to our bedroom and again were not disappointed. Beautiful and comfortable with on suite bath. Of course, the breakfast, served at 9am. Breakfast was prepared and served again by Kim & Bud in the dining room. We were served a fruit, yogurt and granola combination to start. Then followed by stuffed "French Toast" with cream cheese and blueberries yum, yum. Of course, there is always coffee or tea available along with Kim's fresh baked cookies. In all, a wonderful B&B with caring and attentive Inn keepers. We can't wait for our next visit, thank you Kim & Bud. read more

My husband and I held our very small, simple wedding at The Fox and the Grapes in October and we couldn't have been happier. Jim, the innkeeper, who is also a justice of the peace, officiated. He prepared a very sweet and thoughtful ceremony that hit all the right notes. We held the ceremony in a beautiful spot on the lawn overlooking the lake. The setting looks amazing in the photos, which we just got back. Jim and his assistant took care of everything we needed during our stay, including helping us find and reserve a restaurant for the dinner after the reception and helping me make a last-minute reservation at a hair salon in town. And the breakfasts every day, personally prepared by Jim, were outstanding. Finally, we were a little hesitant to make our initial reservations after reading some of the Yelp comments about lumpy beds and loud traffic noise. We were so glad that we ignored them. The beds were perfectly comfortable and no one in our party noticed any noise -- and we had rooms in both sides of the house. Also, the setting is so intimate that we felt as if we had the whole house to ourselves most of the time. In short, the inn was everything we hoped for. Thank you, Jim! read more

second stay at the Fox. its my favorite B&B and i've been to many. the house and amenities are great, price is good, location is right in the thick of it. the food served at breakfast is delicious, and bud & kim are super nice and even had a drink with us each night and chatted. we will definitely return! oh and their puppies are awesome. thanks bud & kim!!! read more
