We stayed at Los Gatos B&B for three nights while visiting the Finger Lakes. There are some…read moregenuinely nice things about the property. The grounds are very well maintained, the view from the deck is lovely, and the individual cabins have a certain rustic charm. Charlie was also very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. Unfortunately, the stay itself had a number of problems. The biggest was the bed. The mattress in our cabin seemed extremely old -- it was lumpy, sagged badly, and we could feel the springs. The cabin walls are also quite thin, and the road noise in the morning was loud enough to wake us. Our check-in took about an hour. Charlie was very friendly throughout, but the process involved an extraordinarily detailed explanation of virtually every aspect of the property and our stay. Even something as basic as finding extra toilet paper required a phone call because it was hidden away; we were told this was because guests had stolen toilet paper during the pandemic. Breakfast was another disappointment. It is served only at 9:00 a.m., which is quite late if you're trying to get an early start sightseeing in the Finger Lakes. Charlie told us that they could make something gluten-free, but the way it was presented gave us the impression that doing so would be a bit of an inconvenience. We felt uncomfortable asking them to go to the trouble, so we never did. Availability was a recurring problem throughout our stay. We texted one evening to say we wouldn't be able to make breakfast the next morning but received no response. When we stopped in around 8:15 the next morning to make sure they knew, Rebecca was surprisingly rude to us. The interaction was unpleasant enough that we decided to skip breakfast for the rest of our stay. Coffee was supposed to be available beginning at 8:00 a.m., but on at least one morning the building was still locked at 8:30. There were some other oddities. The room was reasonably clean but had a slight musty smell. We were also told that we needed to stay in an alternate cabin because the air conditioning was broken in the cabin we'd reserved. Later, however, we saw another couple staying in that original cabin, which left us confused about what had happened. The lack of availability became particularly frustrating when we checked out. We needed to leave early, but once again the main building was locked and no one was available to check us out or accept our payment. A few hours later, Charlie called and told us he would be adding an extra 4% to our bill because, with us no longer physically present, it would be considered a "card not present" transaction. We found this particularly unreasonable. We were perfectly willing to pay in person, but no one was available to take our payment. Charlie never mentioned during our approximately one-hour check-in that we needed to pay at a particular time to avoid an additional 4% charge. Had he done so, we simply would have paid then. He told us afterward that there was a sign near the coffee maker explaining the charge, but we never saw it. Charging a guest an additional 4% because the owners weren't available to accept payment in person strikes us as unconscionable. Guests should not be financially penalized because no one from the B&B is available to check them out. At an absolute minimum, a charge like this should be clearly disclosed directly to guests in advance and they should be given a reasonable opportunity to pay without incurring it. Overall, Los Gatos has attractive grounds, nice views, and cute cabins, and Charlie was friendly to us at check-in. But between the extremely uncomfortable mattress, morning road noise, rigid breakfast schedule, the recurring difficulty finding anyone available, our unpleasant interaction with Rebecca, and finally being charged extra because no one was available to accept our payment, the negatives substantially outweighed the positives. All in all, this was simply a bad experience for us, and we would not stay here again.

We drove up in September for a CHIN event at the Watkins Glen International Raceway, and our stay at the inn was a highlight. All of the reviews are so true; this is THE place to stay. In addition to serving us a fabulous hot breakfast (alight, beautiful scone, Ithaca Farms yogurt with homemade granola, French toast bake with a bourbon honey sauce and peaches and blueberries, coffee, hot tea, OJ), they provided us two days of breakfast to go since we had to go the track much earlier than they were serving the hot breakfast at 8:30 a.m. These were the goodies in our two days' breakfast to go: fruit (perfect strawberries and nectarines ), bread (croissants , gorgeous french with butter, banana bread), hardboiled brown eggs, mozzarella sticks, chocolate biscotti imported from a bakery in New Jersey , wet wipes, thick napkins, utensils, OJ, water, nut snacks, Nutella/pretzels, peanut butter with special crackers, divided between the two days, of course. Not only did David and Brian welcome us with a lovely wine happy hour on our first day, they also recommended hikes to take, wineries to visit, and restaurants to try. Among their recommendations, these were the restaurants we enjoyed: -Graft: local wine and beer. Tomato salad, mac and cheese with chicken sausage, and bread plate. -Maria's cheeseburger, a hole in the wall with fabulous cheeseburgers, near Colonial inn ice cream at which we ordered salted caramel and peanut butter blast, chunks of peanut butter in chocolate ice cream. The ice cream was soooo creamy! -Jerlandos: pizza and garlic knots (YUM), which we ate outside. We had $5 off $35 coupon from a wine map. -Sinclair's gas station for fabulous subs/hoagies! I have a picture of a whole sub that my husband and I shared (and could have shared with one more person!) and of the thick, fluffy bread, homemade every morning at the store, which is in a gas station! The location is perfect, with private off-street parking, and a short walk to the shops and restaurants on the Main Street. Take a walk down the Keuka Outlet Trail or bring your bikes for a ride around the lake. It's ten minutes to Seneca Lake, and the closest wineries are just down the road. The Trimmer House is a stunning Victorian home with beautiful sitting rooms, a large, covered front porch, and cozy bedrooms. The en suite with the clawfoot tub was a selling point for me. Bessie's Room was spectacular. It was spacious, comfortable, and the shutters made for the perfect conditions for sleeping. I've never stayed in a B&B, and the Trimmer House has set the bar incredibly high. I can't rave enough about the breakfast - the food was amazing! Quiche, tarts, fresh food, bottomless coffee. We stayed here for 2 nights in the Cottage Blue/French Yellow Suite - which are two adjoining rooms with a lot of beds - great for a group! The room was so cute and adorable. There was a half bath in the room and a full bathroom across the hall. I absolutely loved the breakfast they provided on the weekends. Lou & Vickie cooked it themselves! The first time we had German eggs - mmmm cheesy eggs - I finished my entire plate because it was so yummyyy! The second night we had peach french toast, which was also very good! There were also homemade biscuits, scones, parfait yogurt with fresh fruits. All the food was nicely presented and delicious! They also serve coffee at 6:30AM for those early birds! Notes: This place is within walking distance to Watkins Glen State Park if you are up for the walk. It's about a 15 minute walk or 0.8 miles. Once you get to the top of Watkins Glen you can even walk home (all down hill on the walk home since the park is all uphill walking!) After much research I found Benn Conger Inn online and booked it! When we got there, Shelly, the inn keeper, made us feel right at home! We loved this the next morning drinking coffee and just relaxing! Shelly's advice for dinner was spot on and went to Dasher's Corner Pub! Cocktails delish as well as the food! Dasher's is right down the street from the Art Center, so it was a quick walk down the street for our concert! The concert was great, totally recommend seeing a concert there! The bed was comfy and perfect for our overnight! The breakfast was fantastic, fresh fruit salad, fresh blueberry muffins, coffee and juice available right away! The breakfast room appears to be an add on room that had windows all around allowing you to view the property! On the tables were menu items that were available to order! I had the cinnamon French toast ! I must say it was the best I've had in a long time, I ate the whole thing! My husband had an omelet and that too was absolutely scrumptious! The only problem I had is I wish we could have stayed longer! Beautiful, clean, charming and very inviting place! I strongly recommend!
