Bob and Shirley were very good hosts and wanted to be sure that our stay was comfortable and that our needs were met. They were a wealth of information on the area and which places to visit. This B&B is on the top of one of the mountains surrounding Gatlinburg and the view from the deck is just amazing. Bob & Shirley were great hosts throughout our stay. Shirley made great three course breakfasts every morning and Bob shared history of the National Park and Gatlinburg while we ate. The accommodations were very comfortable and we will say here again if we ever return to the area. read more

Bob and Shirley, the gracious hosts, think of everything. From the very hearty three course gourmet breakfast on beautiful china, towel and robe warmer and jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, room refrigerator stocked daily with water and soda to the night time treats of truffles and homemade dessert. All this in a beautiful home with great views of the Smokey Mountains and a location up the hill from Gatlinburg and convenient to Pigeon Forge. I agree with some other reviews that the drive up to the property is twisting and narrow and not to be undertaken the first time at night. If you are a skittish driver or have an oversized vehicle, this is probably not the place for you. We found the Foxtrot worth the drive. 1. The inn is extremely difficult to find, it's a residence and it is not clearly marked and there are many turns going up and down the mountains and GPS devices can't be trusted either, which makes things even worse. When I say it's difficult to find, you can take that to the bank, and even if you know the way, it's about 20 minutes up the mountain. I would warn anyone to not attempt to find this inn after dark, you will be sorry, and you can get very lost making the attempt in the dark. 2. You will pay a very high price for what you get. There is only one room in the entire inn to sit in, other than the room you are staying in. For me, this inn was simply not worth the $214.00 per night I paid. After my two day stay at the Foxtrot, I viewed other inns in that area and realized what a mistake I had made. 3. If you book here, be very selective about the room you accept, as the first floor rooms are not nearly as spacious as the upstairs rooms, and one upstairs room has the real mountain view. We had a downstairs room that was dark and confining and had virtually no view of the mountains looking out our small window. 4. This is an older Tudor style home with bathrooms added to the bedrooms and some have whirlpools that are far too small. I am 5'7" tall, 143 pounds, and found the Jacuzzi uncomfortable to use, as it's so narrow. When you attempt to make a B &B out of an older, moderate sized residence, there is just not enough room for many amenities. The entire home is approximately 2700-3000 square feet, and there is only one single room in the entire inn to sit in. It looks so inviting online, but it's small and confined. We heard people walking around and whirlpool baths going late at night, it was just not built to be a bed and breakfast inn, as that one single room is just not enough for guests, especially when the innkeeper is watching every move you make, which is just plain uncomfortable. 5. If you do not arrive almost the minute you say you will arrive, expect a call from Shirley Price, as you are expected to be there when you say you will be there. As we found out, you are on their time schedule, not yours, which wore on us greatly. They will greet you outside, immediately take you for an information lesson on Gatlinburg from their deck overlooking the mountain (15 minutes) followed by being escorted inside by Mr. Price to immediately do your paperwork, where you pay him in full, on the front end. We now know this is done to insure he is paid in full in case you decide to leave early for whatever reason. After your bill is taken care of, you can expect a 15 minute instruction session on how to use his kitchen coffee maker, and you MUST attend! You may think I'm kidding, but I'm very serious, he values that inexpensive coffee maker, and he does not want you messing it up! 6. After you have paid in full upon arrival, you are taken to your room and Mr. Price comes back and gives your bed a turn down . You do not have a choice on this, as Mr. Price does not want you laying on his bedding pillows or touching them in any way. He places them in the closet, away from you, and you do not touch them and I would suggest you not question this or move the pillows once he removes them from your bed. 7. When people go on a vacation or a romantic trip, they generally DO NOT want to be on a regimented schedule, but I can assure you, from the time you arrive at the Foxtrot, you are on Mr. Price's schedule, not yours. Breakfast is at 9:00 AM on weekdays and 8:00 AM on Sunday. There is zero latitude with this arrangement, although they are sometimes late serving you, you better not be late to the table. There is one single table to eat at, much like a school lunch room and Mr. Price prays before serving and then literally launches into a history lesson about Gatlinburg from the head of the table, with no exceptions. Generally at most B&B Inns the atmosphere is light and guests visit with other guests, not so here, Mr. Price's Gatlinburg history lesson lasts approximately 90 minutes and the three course breakfast is served over that period of time and no one feels comfortable talking and if they do, Mr. Price reins in the conversation quickly and gets back to his history lesson. During the course of the lesson it is extremely difficult to break away and go see Gatlinburg, visit the aquarium, etc, you are trapped at the table trying to be polite to Mr. Price. Another thing we experienced is each food course has an "unspoken" time limit and he does his best to keep you eating and on his schedule, it's really exhausting, and we both found ourselves getting very irritated with the course schedule. You will be watched at every moment by the owner, we were so darn uncomfortable, never again, that's for sure! read more

I think the accommodations were nice and clean had no complaints. I thought Bob and Shirley made us feel welcome and provided detailed instructions for our stay which I thought was helpful. The food was absolutely divine and of course very caloric but hey that is part of vacationing! Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the mountains was awesome to take in the splendor of the scenery. If you look at other reviews I am sure you will see comments about the treacherous drive which I will say initially turned me off but that is not any fault of Bob and Shirley and I think it is clear that they are located on a mountain so I guess it should be expected (I personally think they should have guardrails). Luxurious accommodations, and we felt spoiled from the moment we walked in. Bob and Shirley made sure we were warmly welcome and paid attention to every need, even down to the delicious gluten-free cookies that were awaiting in our room that night. Delicious homemade cake and coffee take care of any late-night hunger pangs. Morning coffee or tea on the deck overlooking the mountains is a must. The breakfast is to die for! This review is meant to help others with their decision to stay here (as the Foxtrot website lacks information you need to know about your stay). We arrived in Gatlinburg excited to make our way to the bed and breakfast with breathtaking views of Mt. Le Conte as we booked the Sunrise Suite. We received a call earlier in the day from Bob to say that they would not be able to meet us upon our arrival, but would leave the keys to the front door and our room. We used GPS and the directions on their website in order to locate Foxtrot. Their website states that they offer guests the opportunity to enjoy the splendor of the Smoky Mountains or explore the attractions of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We found the 1st to be true during our brief visit. The second, in my opinion, is completely false. Their website states that their location is approximately 2.8 miles from traffic light #10 in Gatlinburg which is true, but it in no way explains the treacherous driving that you will have to complete in order to get there! Basically, you will have to travel on a 1.5 lane road up the mountain with a 3 foot drop off on one side and a total drop on the other. Not to mention the twists and turns the roads have the entire way up. We drive a truck and could not even see if we were on the road most of the time. The 2.8 mile trip took us 20 minutes from town to get to the driveway which has a 2 foot drop from the road to even pull in. I could not believe that there is no mention on their website about how dangerous and scary it is just to get to their place! We were so stressed from the drive up that there was no way we were going to have that relaxation that they speak of even with the views! The thought of having to take this drive each time we wanted to leave the property and return was unbelievable! We felt as if we stayed there we would be trapped as we would not want to chance the drive. Once we took a few moments just sitting in the car trying to calm down from the drive, we located the keys and entered. Upon opening the front door we heard a loud entry bell attached to the inside of the door. We realized that they have a bell attached to the front door, so every time you enter or exit the Bed and Breakfast it rings. So much for being a quiet retreat as you can hear it throughout the house. While on vacation we enjoy coming and going as we please and found it very unnecessary to alert the whole house of such. Once we closed the door we instantly smelled the overbearing odor of moth balls. Our paper explained that our room was up the stairs, so we went on up to find a very small landing with a door to the right and left and a door right in front of us. I felt like I was going to be staying with my parents. We opened the door and found a semi-clean room that was decorated from the 1960's. The view from the bathroom was just as they said, beautiful. The 2-person whirlpool tub was dirty to the sight and had cracked tiles around the outside. The room itself was very small and unattractive. We immediately decided that we were not staying! I could not believe that this place was listed as a Select Registry property! We only stay at Bed and Breakfasts when we vacation and have done so for many years, but never have we run into property owners not being honest on their website! We locked the doors, left the keys and headed back the dangerous drive to town so as to seek other accommodations. We contacted the Foxtrot and spoke to Shirley who advised us that they would be charging us for 1/2 of the entire stay as their policy states. She hastily apologized for us not liking their Bed and Breakfast and communicated that they have had this situation before. Well, no wonder! If you are not going to fully explain your accommodations or the measures that it takes to drive there, you are going to have unhappy travelers. I believe that if the property owners are not going to be honest and upfront about their property, someone should which is why I decided to write this review. We love to travel and love to stay at Bed and Breakfasts and I, sincerely hope that this review helps when deciding to stay at The Foxtrot Bed and Breakfast. Know before you go. read more

We just spent a couple of nights at the Foxtrot, a hidden gem. The rooms were comfortable and cozy. The bed was perfect. The breakfasts were delicious as were the warm chocolate chip cookies she baked for the evening. Delightful people. Beautiful spot with spectacular views. We had no problem with cell reception or wifi. Will definitely be back! read more
