Vaudeville Follies at the Italian Family Festa (History Park SJ)
    Annabelle R.

We caught a 30-minute showing of The Vaudeville Follies at the Italian Family Festa taking place in History Park SJ this past weekend. Amazing puppets and puppeteers, putting on a fun-loving performance with a variety of acts and characters including a ballerina chicken, a shaggy red puppy, an auguste clown, a knife thrower, and an opera singer marionette (though there are actually no vocals in this show, just music and sound effects playing through the speakers near the stage). More than just a fun production for kids, it was a great showcase of artistry and talent for adults to enjoy too. According to the pamphlets given out at the event, the company is located in Danville (different from what you may see on their website), but they travel to different cities bringing joy and lighthearted entertainment to kids and families all over.

OHMYGOSH I needed to repair my Marienette that I have had for 60 years & Kevin/Fratello Marionette's reached out and fixed Bengo pronto. So fast & he is beautiful like new. Thank you Kevin, very much.

Booking Kevin for my family-friendly Halloween party was the best decision I ever made. The kiddos loved the performance. Kevin was timely, professional, and great with a young audience. Would definitely recommend for anyone interested in his services.

Professional-- Expert Craftsmanship. Excellent Communication Skills & Kind. What more can you ask for in 2024. Or at any time. I sent a childhood gift which has great sentimental value. Need I say, parting with Charley the Poodle was nerve-wracking. He came back looking exactly like I remember unboxing him in 1969. Do not hesitate to entrust your family heirlooms, and precious collectibles to Kevin.

We hired Fratello Marionettes for my business' 10th Anniversary Party. The crew was communicative before the event and arrived on time. They even dealt well with the windy conditions of the day. Their performance added so much joy to our event, and so many kiddos and adults had huge smiles on their faces the whole time. People came up after to me to thank us for hiring the Fratello Marionettes and that they've never seen anything like it before. I found out about them as I'm a huge fan of Bob Baker Marionettes in LA, and I learned that the Fratello folx were a part of them back in the day. Highly recommend them for any of your events! Also, their marionettes are well crafted and classic.

I have a couple of marionettes I picked up in Mexico as a kid around 1975. The strings were fraying, and one had fallen, snapped a string, and had gotten immensely tangled. They have a lot of sentimental value so I sent them to Kevin. He restrung them so they are now good for another 30 years. I didn't ask for any service other than restringing but I am sure he could touch them up nicely given how nice the restringing looks. A nice fresh black vs a fraying gray.

We sent a photo of a puppet which my wife had from her childhood in the 1950s. It needed to be restrung, etc. Kevin responded immediately while out of town. He knew the maker and said he could help. Upon arrival at his facility, Kevine turned the job around in a day and reshipped her to us. She (Sonja Henie puppet) will be with us at Thanksgiving for our grandchildren to enjoy! My wife is thrilled and we are very appreciative of Kevin's timeliness and quality of work. Her picture is attached. G&J Wright, NY

I absolutely love marionettes! I have a doll from Jamaica from the 1950s. I do not know where to find a doll repair person. I also have a Native American doll that needs help. Any recommendations?

You can always tell a teacher who doesn't have their heart in the art of dance. But then again, how can they when they're so over worked? We came here from another studio- if you're looking for something on the core foundation side of dancing- it's not really here. This is more fun, entertaining and keeps your kid active. Which is good, yes! But I understand to more advanced dancers, some classes here would probably seem like a joke. Parking lot is always chaos. Recitals? Wishy washy and chaotic- I guess that can be normal for recitals. Expect your entire day to be solely based on the recital day.. as it is mandatory for all dancers to be there for dress rehearsal and then come back later for the recital itself or literally just hang out all day there till the recital starts. Which is normal for recitals. I say wishy washy because despite other parents busting their butts to get their kid to dress rehearsals, they still let other dancers do the recital sans the rehearsal. Which isn't bad, but I think it's some sort of favoritism. Having volunteered to help in the back, I've witnessed them turn young dancers away from participating in the recital because they missed rehearsal.... and then I've witnessed them let other dancers participate despite missing dress rehearsal?........ Why did it bother me? Well, because I saw a few kids hearts get stomped on after they were turned away and not allowed to dance. Then I saw a few others skip happily on in. Kinda left a sour taste in my mouth. 2 stars because they do keep kids busy and entertained while in class.

Not even a luncheon for your students and adult family who put countless time, energy, and efforts into the kids based upon your constant, random, and last minute change of schedule- getting to and from events, purchasing extra outfits that the kids do not like with no parental input, telling a parent they can't use the restroom after rehearsals were done at PVH a public building, excluding brown and black students and parents, including some of your instructors who left. No bday or graduation celebrations, nothing fronted by you. You hand picked friends and family behind closed doors to help with events, giving them the top notch spots and hours, and "opened" the option for volunteers afterwards. Facts: I volunteered twice right after the BAND went through and it was magically filled. You allowed students to be physically and verbally bullied, even after it being brought to your attention. You pushed for "ADA" to get in line first for events, when it was only YOUR elder Filipino family and friends. There's no "ADA" (your verbiage) for spectators. With the exception of Hercules community events, and maybe Kids Fest, you volunteered us for all Filipino based venues- St. Pat's and St. Joe's. Your students asked $25 for school event sponsorship and you declined, stating you're invested in other partnerships and couldn't afford it or go outside of that partnership. You brag about trips to Greece, Paris, regular trips to LA and Vegas, while drippin in LV and other name brand items- but keep raising our tuition and uniform and event prices. We're paying for YOUR lifestyle and being taken advantage of. You almost never had anyone answering the phones or at the front desk to help us with questions, concerns, but called us out in front of families when we owed tuition or you needed something. You had and have some invested leaders and instructors, who were afraid to stand up for what is right for fear of retaliation- their words. You cannot have 1 instructor for 25 kids, there's nothing productive about that, even though this was recently changed a few times in the last 10 months or so. By the way, you're not a licensed daycare and don't have all CPR or First Aid certified staff or defibrillators, so why do you allow adults to leave why their kids are in the studio and the 1-2 instructors are untrained and outnumbered?! You took away confidence and camaraderie, knowingly excluded people, snatched pride in being ourselves as you pushed for your own, maybe, implicit bias. We had a blast many times, it was from the classmates and supportive adults. It was a very difficult decision, but we had to maintain and heal our mental wellness and leave...Connor, don't be afraid to speak up, it's YOUR name, YOUR vision, grab a hold of it and don't let go! We miss you.
