Mixed experiences with our visit to this cute little bakery in Encinitas. What we liked: cute shop with a friendly staff person. Some indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoyed the "sidewalk" shop vibe. Baked goods looked yummy. We had a chocolate croissant which was a solid four-stars. Might have been tastier warm. What we didn't like: When we travel, we try a new, independent coffee shop daily in search of the best mochas. Other Yelpers had positive experiences with the espresso drinks here. We were underwhelmed. Our mocha was a two-star. Lacking in both a rich coffee or chocolate taste. Not sweet at all, though we prefer the darker chocolate, lightly sweet taste. The drink was weak and watery; lacked that rich, velvety taste of a mocha. The homemade granola looked good and we bought a bag to add to morning yogurt. If you choose to visit, come for the pastries and food, not the coffee. read more

This place delivered on the quality and deliciousness of food this morning. We stopped in for a quick breakfast after doing a yelp search. We love French cafes and French food, so we were happy to find this gem. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, served on brioche bread, as well as a little pastry that had blueberries on top. My husband also had a breakfast sandwich, along with a caramel latte. The man who helped us was very friendly. In no time at all, our sandwiches came out, hot and fresh. They were delicious! We initially ordered a custom birthday cake form the French delights and it was exquisite tasting and artfully done. Later I was gifted a macaroon baking class and it was the most fun baking class I've attended. Shiki was kind to share all her special tips of baking and techniques. I got to taste the assortment of macaroons and a unique tea from France in the most quaint china set.(during a waiting step) Overall the experience was super exciting for me as well as very therapeutic and bonus I got to take home several dozens of these delicious macaroons read more

My review is for Shiki and a delightful Strawberry Fraisier cake class. This was my first visit to this location and it was really fun. Shiki taught my three friends and I how to make this fresh and light cake and we each got to take one home. (BTW someone else commented on this cake in a negative review and complained that there isn't much cake and the "frosting tasted like lard"... after making this cake I can attest that there is NO LARD and the cake is delicious.) But, back on track.....We came as a fun girl's day activity. I bake a lot and learned some new tricks in this class. Shiki is patient and a good teacher. She gave reasons as to why the egg whites are beat slowly at first and then faster as you go along etc. If you are looking for a fun activity this is it! I got some bread pudding for my husband and he thought it was delightful. I didn't get to try any other pastries so I can't review them, but I liked this little neighborhood place. The girl was rude, looked at us and turned to make coffee without a word. If we had not ordered on line and paid for it already I would have walked out. I was like ok, what ever and looked forward to getting my cakes and pastries. The pastries where ok, not great, but not bad either. But the cake, when I realized I paid $37 and $39 for cakes that where only 5 inch's and only 1 layer of cake, I just about fell over. Never again, tiny, rude and didn't even taste great, it was all frosting, no cake. The frosting tasted like lard, no flavor, definitely not a yummy butter cream. So sad!!! Took my second class with Shiki and 3 friends. This was the Get Together where we learned to make gyoza filling (pork and veggies), fill the wrapper, and seal with creases. We also baked fresh Madeline cookie from scratch. Once again, Shiki shared her techniques and recipes for delicious food. She is skilled, knowledgeable, and patient. Her classes are fun and relaxing. The best part is eating the food and getting to take some home. Shiki also makes a fabulous americano! Planning to take more classes in the future - a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours! read more

Has 3-4 small tables to sit outdoors. Paris for her tea- came in a pot good large enough for 2-3 people to share. Pastries- The plain croissant and canele were pretty tasty. The chocolate croissant was good. The beignets were a bit underwhelming. The entrees were good, but a little pricey. This deli is right around the corner from where my husband is training as a pilot, and I will say this the salad we had the first day was delicious. There's some secret sauce in her dressing that is very good, but the man that works behind the counter cannot crack. A smile is actually quite Negative. The second or third time I visited even driving back 20 minutes to pick up some croissants that she was willing to make another batch of, didn't win even a pleasant attitude. The coffee taste terrible so I do not recommend that at all I even asked for it to be made into a mocha and it was not redeemable. Save your five dollars and go right around the corner to bird rock café. It's amazing. If you are working in the area, the quiche is good, but it's not the best I've ever had and if you have to eat right there really quick, it's sufficient. However, the worker was so unpleasant, i've decided I won't return, even if the salad dressing was delicious :) haha. Merci but no merci. There are delicious pastries locally made at Bird rock roasters right around the corner, so that's what I'll be doing from now on. WOW, seriously the best macarons I have ever had!! I first tried their macarons and beignets at a holiday party and I was blown away at how delicious they were. We checked with the host to learn that they were purchased from this bakery. I was obsessed and couldn't wait to check them out. I went on a Friday afternoon. They're located in a really nice and quiet industrial park type area. It was very easy to find and parking was easy too. They had a few tables inside and outside if you wanted to sit and enjoy your treats. I was just getting my to go. The woman working may have been the owner, she was very knowledgeable and you could see the pride she took in everything they were. I was so excited!! I bought several macarons, beignets and packed cookies....some for me and the others for a friend of mine who I know would love them as much as I did!! At first glance the location is a little different due to being in an industrial area and seemingly blending in. Walking in was not what I expected. The sandwiches are good but nothing like I was expecting. I can see this being good for people who sign up for their cooking classes but not as a stand alone lunch place. I took the recommendation from the cashier on what to order. And the beignets were filled but seeing as I've never been to Paris maybe that's the way they are actually supposed to come. I bought a peach one to make Bellinis! We went back at least 4 times in the few days while on vacation. Hate to give this a 4 star rating because they did not have an abundance of Macarons as they are difficult to make, especially in humid weather! They are really quite flavorful! I happened to come upon this place by chance and so glad I did. She has the best pastries I've had in a really long time. Most of the pastries were gone by the time I got there so I only got a croissant and almond croissant. The best! The almond croissant has the perfect almond filling that's not too sweet. I also got this little custard pastry that was amazing. If you get a chance, please support her business. Due to the pandemic she's only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I first found out about this place last Christmas. They are located in an industrial area near Palomar airport. She does have indoor and outdoor seating but it is small. I ordered a Yule Log for our holiday dinner, it was amazing. Since then I have been back several times. They offer a full menu for breakfast and lunch as well as pastries. I have tried the canneles, croissants, and brownie. They all were delicious, and we will be back for me. The quiche is wonderful, light, and fluffy. This shop is a special treat to find in an unassuming area during covid times. It is quaint with one of a kind finds. They have cute cards for Christmas with some yummy treats and Parisian teas you can buy. The owner is very nice and welcoming. She extends true French hospitality along with her delicious pastries. The brownie is rich and chocolaty a decadent treat. Gianduja tart was so good the ganache sat perfectly on a flakey cookie crust. Well made butter croissants went perfectly with a cup of bergamot scented black tea palais des lords. This shop is definitely a neighborhood gem. We had the most delightful Mother's Day tea at French Delights yesterday. Truly a 12 on a scale of one to ten. I have picked up treats from French Delights for special occasions and my own tea parties for years but when I saw that they were offering a special tea for the Saturday before Mothers Day, and my sister was in town, I decided to bring my husband and sister and give it a try. There was a wide variety of savories and sweets and tea to try and all were delicious. They even gave us roses as we left.
