Champagne Bakery has always been a family favorite for a quick tasty and affordable bite. They used to have multiple locations throughout Orange County. Then a few years ago, it changed hands (Maybe more than once) and the only Location that I know of now is this one in the City of Encinitas in San Diego County. I haven't been there in 3 years because it is a 1.5 to 2 hour drive. But on fathers day this year, I decided to treat my parents to brunch as it is my father's favorite place for the Niçoise salad. So, i drove from Long Beach. Champagne Bakery is a small french Bakery and café. It is located in a very charming Spanish mediterranean white building with terra cotta roof tiles and a large courtyard with lots of tables under market umbrellas, reminiscent of a European small town square. The seating is almost exclusively all outdoors for the exception of a couple of small tables inside. There is plenty of parking out front. The menu has a lot to offer and is centered around french Café classics such as the French Onion soup, the Croque Monsieur and the Niçoise Salad. But they also have omelettes, paninis, savory and sweet crepes, soups, and more. They have lots of daily baked goods including baguettes, pastries, cake by the slice as well as whole cakes, coffees etc (see full menu in photos) I tried the broccoli cheddar soup for the first time. It comes with a piece of French roll. It was creamy and flavorful. I also got an omelette with spinach, mushroom and Swiss cheese. It comes with either salad or breakfast potatoes as well as a piece of french roll. I got the potatoes extra crispy. Everything tasted really good. My father ordered his all time personal favorite. The Niçoise salad and my mother ordered a soup and sandwich combo. We all enjoyed our food outdoors on a breezy and beautiful sunny day. The manager and staff members were super friendly and accommodating and Prices are reasonable. I wish we lived closer. I would visit more often. I went here to get a scone as the nearby coffee shop only carried croissants. They only had one person at the counter and I had to wait a bit because people were ordering food ahead of me. It was also busier than usual due to the opening of the nearby coffee shop and it being a Friday( Juneteenth ). I got Chocolate Chunk Scones and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. There was only one flavor of Scone available, although, online it showed 3 flavors. I would have purchased more if they had the variety. The cookie and scones were very good. I will come back again. It's Mother's Day. At 7AM my husband ran down to get me a vanilla latte, quiche, and some pastries to bring home so I didn't have to leave the house. I was SO looking forward to it. First of all, they told him they only had decaf and were out of espresso, coffee beans! WHAAAT!????? (so I'm making coffee at home right now) Argh. Secondly, he got 4 pastries, and seemed to think they MAY have 'fresh' croissants in the back, but couldn't remember if they grabbed the other pastries from the display or not. Said there were about 4 or 5 workers, but they looked completely unprepared for the day. When he got home and we opened the pastry box, everything looked half baked. The croissant was more like bread - not crispy or flaky or even golden brown, and the others didn't look completely baked either. We also ordered a Quiche Lorraine plate. That was decent, but very blond (not beautifully browned as it should be). It was so strange that on such an important day they would be completely unprepared- no coffee, old baked goods and did you see my display pics? It's like they closed the shop yesterday, didn't clean anything out, didn't organize and just left it. The signs were knocked over, the trays weren't straightened and like I said, it looked like they had a huge rush at 6:30 AM and were already sold out - which is highly unlikely. Wow, did they lose their baker? Is the boss out of town and teens are running it? Who knows ... but I sure won't be back. I am never coming here again. I ordered a turkey and havarti sandwhich (with no tomato) and it came with no havarti cheese. So I ended up paying $12 for bread, mayo, lettuce and turkey. I really wanted to love this place because the ambiance is genuinely spot on. Between the warm inviting setup and the live music it creates a great atmosphere, perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends. The food was okay overall but there were some misses. The cinnamon roll for example was noticeably hard on the outside which took away from what should have been a highlight. Service was the biggest issue. It did not feel like the staff were overwhelmed so much as scattered. They seemed unable to stay focused which led to confusion and mistakes. We ordered two cappuccinos but received a latte instead. When we tried to clarify the response from the barista came off as dismissive and unnecessarily curt which made the situation more frustrating than it needed to be. Honestly, I don't think the staff knew how to make a cappuccino. Especially when you respond with "We make all our drinks like this." Not all drinks are the same. Mistakes happen but how they are handled matters. If there is uncertainty about an order it is better to ask than to guess, especially when the follow up interaction is not handled well. A good concept with poor execution! I was hoping to love this place but both visits left me disappointed. The croc monsieur has so much bechamel that you can't taste anything else. We ordered through Doordash and we had our hearts set on almond croissants. Unfortunately they were sold out or not available. Rather than giving us a refund or contacting me to ask what we wanted to do, they just decided to send chocolate croissants instead. This may be fine for others but it was not what we wanted. I would have appreciated it if they had contacted me and given me a choice of refund or substitutes. I will say that the breakfast items we ordered were very good. we have been here several times. The food here has been good, however, it's hard to find a clean table after you placed your order at the counter. Tables and chairs are outside, so when you give your order, you have to bus your table. I don't understand when the runner comes out with your food why he/she can't take in plates from tables that are soiled. Also, I ordered soup and a spoon was not on the plate. The ingredients were really flavorful and seemed very fresh. My friend and I have been having lunch here for a few years and the service and food is usually very good. Service is always friendly and the owner Rebecca stopped by our table to say hello. It was a warm sunny day and there are many tables to choose from. I like the colorful blue and white chairs and some tables have a black and white umbrella. The soup is always a good size portion and hot..I've had the tomato basil soup and grilled cheese which is also very good! Chicken salad is on a huge fresh croissant and us delicious. I also love the peach tea. My friend had the tuna nicoise salad and it's a big salad with dressing on the side which is nice. I did get a blueberry scone to take home my son loved it says it was not dry like some scones he's had before. I grew up in Sweden and spent summers in France. There is no such thing as a French princess cake. And we search high and low for them. Would you serve a tiramisu if someone asked for a napoleon? The shopping center is getting a "Facelift"; new paint on the building, new tables in the patio, but they cut down the tree where the birds were visiting and insulted bronze horses that were made in China! How do I know this? I create sculptures, and its a shame the owner would stoop this low. Bad choice. Cheese danish tasted like bread with sugar in it, is no longer flaky pastry dough.
