They have a nice variety of quality goods items. We have tried their holiday meal collections and been very pleased with their preplanned Thanksgiving turkey meal, Christmas meals , and Easter lamb meal-their ready-to-cook appetizer to dessert collections, as well as their brunch quiche specials. They make it easy to plan for group get -togethers or small family meals. We also like their deli special where you get 4 delicious light croissants when you buy a pound of their Chicken salad- for 4 tasty lunch sandwiches. Their produce, deli, cheese, and bakery items are well chosen. The meat dearest has good weekly specials. There are also weekly dinner specials with the ingredients gathered -ready for you to cook quickly at home without much meal prep time. They also have small coffee samples for the weekly coffee special-a nice touch as you shop. Personnel: The personnel are friendly and helpful. Even the manager and asst managers go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience. In the past when we have asked for special help, we received it with a smile. Terrible Prices and Terrible Staff. The meat and other food items are distributed to the same stores nearby. The Fresh Market just up-charges the hell out of them. Same quality prime rib as Krogers cost literally 3x the price. Staff is very rude. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

We went in for some desserts, and the baker was incredibly nice, informing us to grab our forks at the register. As we approached, an older woman with black hair hurried away from the register, allowing the bagger to ring us up as if she hadn't noticed us. We requested forks from the bagger, who handed us one(she was friendly), while the woman who had walked off went to fetch the second one we needed. We stood there waiting for her return and then politely asked for another fork to get a snarky attitude that she put two in there. Such a brief encounter, yet it revealed so much animosity in someone's heart. Instead of two forks I got one and a side of disgust won't be back. read more

Shopped at Fresh Market for Thanksgiving and was disappointed again. Bought some cookies from the enclosure. They were dry with little taste. Bought an apple pie with lattice top - the crust was too thick and tough. The filling was too sweet , it was too little filling and too much crust. The displays are were inviting and attractive. The prices were outrageous and the quality was disappointing. Everything looks good, but continues to disappoint. Someone, please do some quality control in the baker. read more

Management aside... The overall store isn't bad. I really enjoy all the desserts and deli items they have. Though the last few have been oddly bad. Terriyaki sauce with dumplings is kinda hilarious in a bad way. The artichoke dip spread on the veggie sandwiches is more cheese than anything. My bad, it looked like a pesto. The broccoli salad is really nice though, and so are some of the wraps. Love the cookies and pies as well. The bakery really seems to be in order too. There are a lot of cool items here. Some fairly rare and inaccessible unless using the Internet. Prices can, however, be outrageous in some avenues though. I'd really only stop here for specialty items. It's more glitz than anything for grocery stores. I believe someone else mentioned it lacks substance and I'd have to agree. If you're looking for snack choices this might be the place. There is an exorbitant amount of candy and chocolate. As for management, they semi-boarder psycho. I really wish I was joking. I shouldn't be scared to walk through check out. These guys are a mess. This place is awesome! Just went there for my first time, and it is pretty much a smaller version of whole foods. The workers were so friendly and helpful. They had the best samples too. I tried salmon carbonara pasta and salmon stir fry. I don't even like salmon and it was delicious. The amount of gourmet candy they had was insane. So going back there to get some when I have a sweet tooth. And the bakery looked amazing. Basically, my entire shopping experience was incredible. Shop here! read more

I have shopped here almost weekly for the past year and I would normally give the store 5 stars because their meat and produce departments are incredibly fresh and they have a great selection of bakery and organic items. However, (and that is a big HOWEVER for me because I love cheese) their cheese department has been lacking in freshness. Three times I've found cheese I purchased to be sour and once I saw cheese displayed that was weeks past it's labeled expiration. I brought this to management's attention today and they've assured me the issue will be addressed and were very friendly and apologetic issuing me a refund quickly. **Update: I have since visited this location at least a dozen times and am happy to say I have not seen any cheese past it's expiration date. I also notice one of the refrigerated display cases has been removed (maybe that was the problem?) Good job rectifying the issue! Changing my review to 5 Stars. read more

I have to give Fresh Market 5 stars, because I am now addicted to their Peppermint Creme coffee. Staff seems very good (UGA music students and other interesting people). Coffee and freshly baked goods have lived up to expectations, and the meat selections look awesome. Prepared foods seem to be a strength, and if you are in the market for candies, nuts, or trail mix, they have barrels of such goodies ready to be scooped into bags. Classical music reigns in the store, which is a nice change of pace. Oh, did I mention... there are lots of expensive foods at this store? This has to be the best grocery in the Athens area. The fresh vegetables are outstanding. You can't buy things like papaya like that anywhere in town. The bakery is sinful. Just try the blackberry or the wild berry pie. If you are on a diet stay away from the pastry and cake display. Granted it costs a little more but it's well worth it. There is actually people working there that have a smile on their face and are friendly. Isn't that a novel change. This place has a great selection but I feel as if their prices are too high in comparison to the "green" products at Kroger right across the street. The same products shouldn't be consistently at a $2-$3 difference. Also, some times too much stuff is overwhelming and may lead to less business than anticipated. I find myself lost sometimes and the amount of choices causes me to leave without purchasing anything. However, the fresh food is amazing and I can't fault the business for that. read more

My hubby is in Athens Regional and wanted ice cream and candy which had to be sugar free. Not knowing the area or looking around what should have been my destination to Kroger, I ended up here. I loved it. Was greeted and helped like I was a regular, I love it!! I hope they come to my neck of the woods. Fresh market does not live up to the hype of quality service or products. While they have more variety than traditional grocery stores, I have consistently been disappointed after going there. A check out lady screamed at me in the store after calling me in from the parking lot mistakenly. She let the lady at her register leave without her groceries without paying. After I told her multiple times it wasn't me, the bag boy pointed out to her that I had a receipt. I had to ask her to stop yelling at me. she then apologized because this happens to her a lot and it seems to be only younger women. Thanks for the stereotyping. And, maybe look at your job skills: it only happens because you are doing something to reinforce it. I have also had a horrible time with the bakery. I bought packaged cookies and they were not all the kind on the package label. I once bout a cake there only to find that it was frozen when I got home. It's a little overpriced, and much of the things they sell can be found at Trader Joes. I only go there now hard to find items. read more

I love this place. I can't get all my shopping done here because it either doesn't have it or I can get the same thing at Kroger for either cheaper or same price but earn credit towards gas. That aside, there's always something interesting to buy and I always come out with more than I intended. It's always worth popping in when I'm in the area. I've been in this store 4 or 5 times now since they opened this fall and every time there's been a pricing issue. They have all these baskets of foods they are highlighting in some way, like yogurt-covered pretzels, and either there will be no price on any of the items in that basket and no price flag on the basket itself, and you can't find the item elsewhere in the store to find the price, or all the bags in there are the same weight and price and you can't find that item in the serve-yourself bins in order to get, say, $2 worth instead of the $8 bags they've selected you. It's not like you can rip open the bag and weigh out what you want and reprice it. There's also a lack of staff to assist and when I've said something to a cashier about the lack of prices on things I wanted to buy, they say, "No, all the items have prices on them." Not so. The cashiers all seem to have some kind of problem communicating with customers. I picked up some "2 for $5" kale and it rang up at $2.99. I asked if it wasn't two for five. She looked blankly at me. I said, "It's supposed to be 2 for $5." She said, "Yeah, $2.99." I said, "Two for 5 would be $2.50." She said, "Where are you seeing two for five?" I said, "On the shelf, where I picked up the kale," pointing at the shelves in produce. She looked resigned and knocked a dollar off the price, then had to get a manager for an override and that took a while. No apology or price check in case I somehow picked up the wrong kale (I only saw one kind on the shelf), just resignation. There is also a lack of checkers when I've been in. I've had them miss items in my basket, and weigh things that didn't need weighing along with produce that did need weighing and when I asked about it was waved off and after I'd paid she then explained that it was a flat price item. It's like they don't care, they're just ringing you up. I like that I can get specialty items here like imported French salted butter that I can't get anywhere else, but it's really not worth the trouble on most other items. It's all attractively presented displays (seems like about 1/4 of the store is candy and seasonal fluff), but there's not much substance behind it. The Publix is a much better store with very responsive and attentive management. read more
