The only thing is that I've been eating way too many beef burgers over the past month so I wanted a change. There aren't as many Chicken burgers on the menu but I really liked the idea of the Spicy Chicken. Buttermilk fried chicken, chipotle mayo, coleslaw, pickled jalapeno and red onion (I think it was pickled.) Sounds good right? Because it was- it was absolutely divine. The chicken was fried hard so the coating is shatteringly crunchy yet the buttermilk helps the meat remain tender and succulent, and it was seasoned just right. I'm really digging the addition of coleslaw in their burgers, it's a good idea. Chipotle mayo, jalapeno and onion goes well on anything, and works on the burger. But the best thing about this burger is that it delivers on heat because it really packs alot of punch! I'm not sure if they ramped up the chilli in the mayo or it's the japapeno or something else....but I was really impressed by the heat. That being said it won't blow you head off and you can still taste the food. The spicy chicken is pretty cheap at $8.90 and I usually get it with Tater Tots bring it to $12.90, which is really good considering I can barely finish both even after a heavy tennis session! Guess I'm a regular at NB at this point and I'll keep coming back whenever I need an affordable burger fix.

To be honest I only ever visited the old shop at this location once in 30 years that I can remember. I was happy to see lots of full booths, a line up and a handful of diligent burger scientists behind the counter and in the kitchen whipping up some magic at a great price. Less than $40 for 2 burgers, chilli cheese fries, a beer and a cider. And not some mass produced, plastic takeaway burger. We're talking juicy meaty patties, crunchy fries and crunchy fried chicken, not greasy, disappointing or fatty. We shared our burgers to get the most out of our visit. Soooo glad we did! I honestly couldn't decide which burger I liked more! Service was friendly, upbeat, prompt and polite. That's a bloody hard combination to find when the food comes out so quickly in my experience! Every punter in seemed happy to be there. Absolutely get in here for one of these belter burgers. Now, i wonder which Nordburger does it best...? Onto the others...!

BUT no accessible bathrooms! The last time I dined at the Singapore House, I raised this issue in writing and was assured that it was on the " to do " list. That was about two years ago. Whilst dining with my family of 7, I was forced to leave the restaurant and to seek out an accessible bathroom at McDonalds down the road. I also note that whilst there is a ramp leading into the restaurant, it is pretty steep and, I suspect, it is there to facilitate deliveries and not people. Come on Singapore House, lift your game! I will not return until I am sure these matters have been addressed.

You're driving aimlessly through the burbs, finally, you pull up to the curb because you're craving…read moreSingapore street food and you see a sign up ahead. It's Singapore House. Craving about to be happily abated. Facing a busy thoroughfare sits a deceptively large restaurant. There's a small 6 seat Bar at the door, a massive dining room, atrium patio, a secluded back room where people who are not supposed to be dining together are dining together and then there is the Butterfly Room with a 1,000 dead butterflies in boxes on the wall. Why that would be charming is beyond me, but if creepy prehistoric flying insects are your thing, you've reached Nirvana. The Decor is Modern Owner's Surplus Stuff. Tortoise Shells, a few taxidermied Ibex heads, a painting of some ancient Dutch dude, a large tchotchke cabinet crammed with oddities. Think Black Friday goes nuts in Pier 1 Imports. The Vibe: Who's havin' a birthday? Which Amah is taking the Little Dumpling grand daughter out for Dumplings? And then there are the locals who want to eat here on a Sunday even though it is not a Jewish holiday. The Staff: Amateurs who are sweet and willing but know little about the alchemy going on in the kitchen. Order the Raita, and you get a Rice kinda thing. The Bar: Some Tropi-cocktails, a bunch-o-beers and a variety of Vino. I tried aw Singapore Sling served small instead of traditional tall like you'd get at the Raffles Hotel Long Bar. Here, it's made with just Gin instead of Sloe Gin which can cause a quick death. My second effort was a Sunny Side Up with Vanilla Vodka, Pineapple Juice, Passion Fruit Pulp with plenty of seeds to spit at the table of Birthday celebrants at the next table. It was engaging until I started raging at the waiter for yanking it away before I finished firing Passion pellets at the partiers. The Food: There is a full page of the Singapore Street Food you were lusting for. Street Food Fish (Cod, my guess), was lovely. How'd they get the Banana Leaf in which it was steamed to look exactly like a fish? Pretty slick. The Fish was creamy yet firm enough to showcase the kitchen's skill. It was nicely spiced, and got your attention without closing your throat from excessive heat. The dish was complex and yet straight forward and took me back to nights wandering around the Newton Circus food stalls. It wasn't just delicious, it was defishous. The Crispy Beef was a good sized bowl full with a tangle of tender fried Beef strips bathed in piquant Sweet and Sour Sauce waiting to be rolled up in cold Iceberg Lettuce leaves like Cleopatra's first date with Julius Caesar. (She arrived rolled up in a Carpet like a taquito). The other side of the menu is mostly Indian. Well, that's close enough to Singapore isn't it? And the owner is, in fact, Indian, so why not? The Flat Rice Noodles (a Thai Dish that somehow stowed away on the menu) came with large Prawns, cooked well enough, along with Lap Cheong (Chinese Sausage), Bean Sprouts, Baby Shrimp, (which no one ever cleans for some reason. Hey, you change your baby's diaper? Clean the shrimp!), Chilis and Cilantro. It was basically a decent Pad Thai, which I do like BTW despite the Baby Shrimp issue. I did ask for some Raita, and out came Steamed Rice with Toasted Coconut. Rice? Raita? Oh well, close enough as they both start with a R, right? No big deal, I'm flex and the Rice was unusually fluffy which was fine for supporting the next course of Lamb Shank Jungle Curry ordered simply because I was intrigued by the name. You'll need an engine hoist to heave the Lamb Shank around or invite the Birthday party at the next table, with hair full of Passion Fruit Seeds, to join you for a nibble. This was a gorgeous hunk of meat on the bone with a green stew of Okra, Tomato, Herbs, Cilantro, Onions all with a Red Roo punch of heat. Get some Roti (think Narendra Modi fails Dominique Ansel's Cronut Class). However, it was still flaky and crunchy, so I give a passing grade. They had me at The Crispy Beef therefore I say "Singapore House is in the house...so, give it up".

A lot of the other menu items here are also delicious. I absolutely love their fish and chips, and yiros! It's no Estia at Henley Square, but it's pretty close. The fish is nicely battered, the chips are thick yet crunchy with just the right amount of chicken salt, no more, no less. The yiros also has nice fresh fillings and the meat is cooked nicely. Their trading hours are also good, 11am till 8pm which allows enough time to grab food if you're feeling like a later dinner. They also recently updated their menu, which now includes chicken wings marinated in BBQ sauce, various meal deals, and they cater for Christmas orders. A downfall of this place is its steep prices, the last time I came here I bought a BBQ chicken for around $14. Overall though, it is convenient, tasty food!

The gravy is a bit too runny and the chips definitely aren't salty enough. However, the serving sizes are massive. The first time I went in there I was put off by the fact that one serve cost $5.80. When I received my meal it was gigantic. I literally went into a food coma after demolishing it all. A few of my friends have had their beef schnitzels and they said that they are amazing. On a not so bright note, the service definitely isn't fast. Expect to wait at least 10 minutes for your food. Apart from the chips and gravy, they have a massive selection. Everything you would expect from a fish and chip shop and more. They also advertise that they use cholesterol free oil to cook, but I don't know how important this is when you have shoveled down half a kilogram of chips. The shop is also open for great hours. Hungover on boxing day it was one of the only shops open in my area.

It has a modern fit out - a pleasant surprise for an asian restaurants - in a funky red and white and really friendly staff. I've eaten here with a group of mums and nabbed one of the tables with a lazy susan - great for spinning around shared dishes. I've also eaten plenty of takeaway and when I've been really lazy, taken advantage of the super cheap $3.50 delivery (within 3kms, minimum spend $30). Those in the know say it's authentic Cantonese cooking. The menu is extensive and while I haven't loved all the dishes, if you stick to the usual suspects you won't be disappointed. Most ambitious dish? Basil Cheese Chicken - "tender pieces of chicken tossed with basil, onion with mild chilli soy bean paste on a melt cheese bed and served on a sizzling platter." Don't let that put you off. My favourites are Shredded Roasted Duck Soup for $5.50 and Ants On Greens - "minced pork, sun-dried shrimps and mushroom wok seared in white wine and oyster sauce and served on a fresh greens bed. Don't worry, no ants at all!" for $12. And if you're feeling like a sweet finish, the pancakes with pan-fried red bean custard are delish. Eggplant hotpot is my dish of choice, it's something I find few restaurants really do well, and Rice excels at getting it spot on. Lunch specials are excellent value - the beef noodle was a feature on my desk at work many times. I worked with the wife of one of the chefs for a while, and can confirm it's all very authentic Cantonese :) The true test of a chinese restaurant, I took a chinese work colleague there, and he was impressed with both the menu, and the meals we received - he did spend a good five minutes discussing exactly what he wanted in Cantonese with the waitress, mind you - and I believe we had something that wasn't actually ON the menu, but it was all good :) Bookings are a must on Friday and Saturday nights, and recommended on others. Parking on Glen Osmond Road is a pain - make sure you tuck your mirror in, it's a rat race along there. If you go here for a business lunch, let them know and they'll make a point of getting the food to you promptly, or let you know if a dish will potentially take longer.

We went on a weekday and there were about 4 or 5 more couples dining in. The decor is very Chinese and it was odd there was no background music. The staff barely spoke any English but we managed to order using the English menu. There are two types of meat. Fresh meat and frozen meat. We tried the wagyu from the fresh meat and lamb from the frozen. The lamb came thinly sliced, very good for hot pot. The wagyu came in thicker slices almost good for grilled meat. I would recommend getting frozen meats because they are able to cut it thinly. We also got the veggie assortment, enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, soft tofu, along with the 2 types of meats. We have tried the Go In hot pot a few times before and think this place is superior in terms of the meat quality and the amount of veggies out get. The total for two was $80. Recommend!
