Got a great deal through a discounted site and figured I'd try it out for something fun and different. I must say i had a great time, although in all honesty, i always have great times regardless. I felt the concept was fun, the people were pleasant and the instructor was good. I ended up coming back a second time and had the same experience. I have not tried any of the others therefore I don't have much to compare it to but I'm assuming if you start off with them first you won't know the difference. I decided to check out the Fun Palette after having a great experience at a similar place. While I had fun, there are definitely some differences, and unfortunately the Fun Palette scored lower for me. The Fun Palette is tucked away in North Miami Beach, but it's easily marked, so as long as you're on West Dixie with your eyes peeled, you shouldn't miss it. The space is pretty intimate, but there's enough room to bring a group. The atmosphere is less rowdy and partyish than other painting parties, but that might be just what you're looking for. Plus, I'm sure it depends on the crowd. The day my friends and I arrived, the class started RIGHT on time. We brought wine and snacks with us, and were happy that the Fun Palette had a wine opener. We finally found some usable cups lying around, but I would advise you to bring your own just in case. The actual painting instruction was very fast-moving. I felt like I fell behind a few times. I also felt like the instruction was geared more towards people who have painted before. At other painting classes, instructors really walk you through the steps, and I (a totally inexperienced painter) really enjoyed that. However, if you have a bit more experience, you may enjoy the faster pace of the Fun Palette. It did seem that there were many more experienced painters there... At the end when we all revealed our masterpieces, only a few paintings closely resembled the original. Many people had incorporated some really cool techniques that I would not even know where to begin to do! I also felt that I had to ask a few times to please "SLOW DOWN! WAIT! I'm not there yet!" Or, "How do I make my brush do what your brush is doing?" I was a little lost... and I think my friends felt the same. When the class was over, it was over. It felt very much like at the end of a night out -- Lights on, go home. Not the best. I probably won't return to the Fun Palette. The Fun Palette is a fun place where you can paint while having a drink(s) and snacks you bring yourself. The hubs and I decided to do something fun and out of the ordinary. I bought my tickets online, stocked up on wine and off we went. The location is a warehouse-type setting from the outside, but once you enter you notice colorful and great artwork everywhere. You will be provided with a blank canvas, paint, brushes and an apron. Indie/electronic music will fill the room. The instructor I had was good and definitely talented. He did lack the "welcome to the fun palace, guys!" personality. It was more of a "hey, sup, we gon' paint today so follow my lead". It wasn't that great of a customer service nor did it feel "instructed". The experience overall was good and it's definitely a funtivity to add to the list to do as a couple or with a group of friends. Once you're done with your painting you get to take it home! Management: since it seems you monitor these reviews; we did have a good time and we will definitely be back. However, there's still improvement to be made in the way the class *begins*. Maybe it's not every time, maybe it was just my class. But I felt as if I was supposed to know what to do and how to start. It feels as if your team can use a refreshment course in customer service. After we were done I asked of of your employees if she could take a picture of us; she took it quickly, gave me my phone back and kept walking. The couple next to us offered to take the picture since it was kind of obvious your employee was bothered. Let's face it; I can buy canvases, wine and tell my friends to do the same at my place but the atmosphere is what keep customers coming back. I will be back to give it another chance because I don't write off establishments based on one experience alone. Any who, those are my 2 cents. Actually, 3 cents-- please fix your AC. I really enjoyed the experience here. It is such a neat thing to do with friends and family. This really brings out the artist in you. The lady teaching the class was nice and patient. It is cute that you get to bring your own drinks and food. For our paint party we had Argentinian empanadas and desserts. This is a fun and memorable experience to be able to share with others. The studio is full of art from other events, it is casual, an art room. You sit on a stool to do your painting. They provide the aprons, paint, paintbrushes and canvas. All you need to do is bring your own food and drinks. It's cool to see how everyone's painting comes out with differences even though you are painting the same thing. Luv getting to take the artwork home after you are done. Definitely recommend for a fun little night with friends, family and even a date night. read more

Like all the other BYOB painting studios we have been to, we had a great time! Only complaint is that they made us pay an extra $6 each on top of the paid Groupon because the painting class was 30 minutes longer than normal. Problem was, the actual painting only lasted 2.5 hours so it was kind of a scam. The painter, Charlotte, is a wonderful artist and incredibly nice. Unassuming from the outside since it basically looks like a warehouse. On the inside it's a cute workspace for painting classes. I went to one class that was BYOB (bring your own bottle... of wine). I had a blast! Wine and painting was a great divergence from the usual bar scene. A blank canvas, paint, smock, and all of the other supplies were ready and set up for us. There was a model painting for us to get an idea from. The owner, Cari, ran the class and taught us about the basic techniques used for the model. It was structured but she also let us have creative freedom. She was incredibly sweet and encouraging especially for us newbies! There was music playing too so that helped create the atmosphere. This was a great experience with my girls for my birthday. We had a blast especially when allowed to bring your own wine to drink and paint. My set backs for this is the studio was very warm at first. They did turn the temp down a bit but you could still feel the heat. It could have been the wine too. Lol. Also when I first put in my voucher I didn't get an email. But when I called Laura assured everything would be taken care of and replied back to me via email to secure my space. But if I didn't reach out I would have never known. I think the owner was out of town so that is why we didn't get an immediate reply. My daughter spent the past 2 weeks in camp at The Fun Palette. She had an outstanding experience. She participated in all forms of art and was exposed to so many different techniques. From canvas painting to cartooning, she really enjoyed the whole experience. I strongly recommend attending camp at The Fun Palette. I completely fell in love with this place, I went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We wanted to do something different and one of our friends had been there for the ceramics and said it was such a cute place and decided to try it out. It is a change from anything else we've done, we were able to pick out the date and the owner accommodated to what we needed. Also since it was a private party we were able to pick out the painting we wanted which was amazing! The day of the party was great we were able to bring in our own food and drinks and they already had a table set up for us and everything, The teacher was great I am not an artist myself and was a bit scared but he went step by step even showing us how to move the brush and what not. My painting came out great in my opinion so with that I was really happy! The staff is great and so is the atmosphere! they had music playing in the background we were able to also pick what station of pandora we wanted. LOVE LOVE this place, I will be back soon to try out the ceramics or maybe the candle making. read more

This review is for a children's birthday party- and not the BYOB painting for adults that is also offered at this studio. I got to the party 20 minutes after it started. (My one year old wasn't going to be painting as a part of the painting class so it didn't really matter if we were late to watch others paint.) The only people there were the instructor and her assistant- I approached the assistant, who knew absolutely nothing about selling items that were not part of the party package. The assistant had to interrupt the teacher to ask her about getting me a canvas for the baby. Then it was explained that I could purchase a canvas, but that it was not party of the party (fine) and that I would be charged as if I was someone just walking in $35- I asked about the ceramics maybe- perhaps that would be a different story. The response was that sure, I could work on one but only if I had cash on me because they didn't have any way to charge it by credit card because the owner was already gone for the day (are you serious?!) ... I don't carry cash on me that often, and yesterday was no exception. So- I made the best of it and mingled with the rest of the people who were not painting. So minus a few stars for not being accommodating. Also because there is only one tiny tiny bathroom and no separate sink for washing hands, so when I had to use the restroom I had to wait for ALL the kids to finish washing paint off their hands before I could actually get into the bathroom. It was clean though. What I did like: The kids that were invited to paint at the party really enjoyed it. They were given shirts to paint with so they did not dirty their clothes. The instructor went slowly, and the children were all able to keep up and participate. The scene was appropriate for children as was the level of instruction. First time at a place like this and overall is was mediocre. The gentleman that was teaching the class did not really teach, he kinda said just get into it and make it look like mine. Avoid if you can! There are many other BYOB painting classes that would be happy to host you, your guest(s) or event. I went there with my boyfriend. I had been to a few classes elsewhere so I told him it would be amazingly fun like my other experiences. The class was very fast paced even with the complaining and comments of everyone for the instructor. Patricia kept her fast pace and everytime she would hear anyone laugh or giggle she would say " We only have x amount of time left" as in shut the heck up and work on your painting. She kept reiterating the time left and how it was only a 3 hour class. I have no problem paying to be there but the time constraint and constant reminder was overly rude. It felt like if you fell behind you were screwed. She had an assistant there that just texted whoever the whole time and was no help at all. At the end of the class they immediately start cleaning and you have to leave like NOW! I left with my painting wet because they have no Blow Dryers unlike the other places. They gave us a survey and borderline harassed us to fill it, it has a tip suggestion on the bottom, again RUDE. You don't get to rush me for 3 hours, tell me in other words to shut up and expect a tip from me.... Fun Palette lacked the fun.... read more

The owner of this establishment is what made me give The Fun Palette a one star review. I purchased a Living Social with my friends in hopes of having a fun girls night filled with art and some alcohol. Every time we called to make an appointment we were told classes were full and they were unable to accommodate four of us. Eventually the Living Social was about to expire so me and one friend decided to go together without our two friends. When I went to make a reservation I saw that the owner had marked my coupon as used when I had never used it. After a couple calls to Living Social, I was told to call the owner and she would fix it. The owner initially was really great about accidentally marking my coupon as used. She said it wouldn't be a problem and that I could come into the class. Fast forward one month, I was able to finally meet the owner when I showed up for the class and she remembered me from one month before. She then proceeded to tell my friend and I that we had to pay an additional $6 because we had signed up for a 2.5hr class instead of the 2hr class that the coupon was for. We knew about the price discrepancy of a 2.5hr class so we purposely booked a 2hr class. When we tried to explain this to the owner she was having none of it. We asked if we could reschedule the class for one that was 2hrs and she said that that was impossible and we could not reschedule. My friend and I tried to reason with the owner and we explained how we did not want to pay an additional charge. The owner then became angry with us and in a rude manner told us that "it was only $6 extra." Now, this woman has no idea what my financial situation is and sometimes $6 is not just $6. I was really offended that the owner would be so thoughtless and rude to patrons of her business. I was even more upset that we were fooled into going to a 2.5hr class instead of the 2hr class that was initially shown on their schedule. Once the owner said that to us, my friend and I concluded that we would never visit The Fun Palette again. Also, we left exactly 2hrs into the class so that we would redeem our 2hr coupon and not use the extra 30min. Overall, the owner was blatantly rude and inconvenient. After what I have experienced I do not plan on visiting The Fun Palette ever again. read more

My friend recommended this place so that I could take my little cousin and little sister to, she said it would be pretty easy for them to have fun. I went on a Friday night the class wasn't that full it was pretty entertaining! The three of us went in for ceramics the ceramics class is combined with the painting which was fun because I was able to see what they were painting (which btw made me really want to go back and paint lol). They have a lot of pieces from which you can pick, from all different shapes and sizes, you then pick your paint and then you are pretty much left to paint what you'd like, if you need help the teacher and assistant helped my little cousin and sister with ideas. It was a great time for them! They loved it especially because we were also able to eat while they were painting the ceramics! It was a great Friday night and the next week when I went to go pick up the pieces they were ready and even put in a little bag and everything! Very cute place! Had an amazing time here with 15 other family members in a private party session. The instructor Freddy and the owner Cari are very friendly and were very accommodating to our large, tardy group. There was a nice space set up for us to lay out hors d'oeuvres and drinks and there was even music to jam and sing along to. Freddy was a great instructor, very patient and encouraging and everyone had a wonderful time expressing their "inner artistic sides". This is a great idea for a girls outing or flying solo. Visited on a living social deal with a friend, and boy was it a steal! The class we chose to participate in was the three hour class painting of Van Gogh's, Starry Night. If you've never picked up a painting brush do not be intimidated, as the instructor provides step by step instructions. The instructor was friendly and offered advice. All materials are provided -canvas, paint, brushes, easles, and aprons to keep your clothes paint free. If you've taken up painting before then you will excel. Music is played during the session which made for a very relaxing atmosphere. During the BYOB (bring your own booze) participants can take whatever choice of drink. Take a bottle of wine and get lost in the art! Cups are provided for the drink. The lighting in the room was just perfect, too. At the end of the session you won't be able to put the brush down, and you get to take home a unique piece of art with a sense of accomplishment. As a matter of fact, loved it so much that the day after a Groupon deal was being offered we purchased two more. The calendar can be checked on the website. A kids summer camp or birthday parties for all ages are also an option. Although it's a fun and unique activity I'm not sure I would pay the regular price of $45-$50, but as a veteran in painting I can see why its pricy as painting supplies are expensive. DO NOT celebrate a birthday here!!! I recently hosted my daughters 12th birthday at the Fun Palette. Decided to try out their new "cake decorating" experience (my daughter loves baking) rather then painting. The party was scheduled from 11 am to 1 pm (which I thought was very little time but had no other options). When speaking to the owner, Carrie, several times on the phone, she assured me that it would be a great experience. The fee is a whopping $40 per child! And there is a 10 child minimum for parties. I paid for 12 girls. Carrie told me she would be out of town that weekend and that the party would be hosted by Patricia and Laura. I had never visited the place and should have at least got good directions. Needless to say, I got lost that morning and arrived 10 minutes before 11 am. When I called to let them know I was lost, I was very rudely answered by Laura who promptly let me know that the party was scheduled for 11 am sharp! When I arrived, some of my guest were already there and they quickly helped me bring everything down from the car and set up. The girls were excited to get started however I was missing half the party! Only 6 out of the 12 girls were there and it was 11:15 am at this point. I asked if we could wait another 5 minutes and Patricia said NO because they were on a very tight schedule and there were other classes after my party. I asked her if we could extend the party to 1:15 since we were starting at 11:15 and again, she said NO and reminded me of the very tight schedule. She began to explain how to roll out the fondant in her very thick accent as her assistant went around helping the 6 girls who were there. Little by little the rest of my party finally arrived and they were rushed through the entire explanation. There was no attempt by the hostesses to be sweet or even crack a smile at the kids. It was like they were there to do their job from 11 to 1 and that's what they were getting paid for. The entire presentation was so rushed I didn't have a chance to sit down and talk to any of the moms there! I was busy taking pictures and making sure I didn't miss the girls decorating the cakes because it was all happening so fast! Before I knew it, it was 12:30 pm and they were already picking up the materials! Asking the girls "do you need help with anything" as in can you hurry up and not be so creative and finish decorating the cake! We sang Happy Birthday, ate and finished picking up all in 30 minutes! Here's the best part.. After I picked up everything and packed my car I noticed that they both came out to their cars too. Laura locked the front door of the business and as she was getting in her car I asked her "didn't you say there was another class right after my party?" her answer was "yes but it's taught by someone else and it starts at 4:30 pm !!!! Funny! All I could do was laugh. I left in such a rush I forgot my cell phone. My husband had to come back at 4:30 when the next class started and get it for me. I have never spent so much money and had such a bad time. I will NEVER return to the Fun Palette again! It should be called the Rush Palette! read more
