This might be a long review, so please read to the end. My daughter has a cheer competition today which has drawn in teams from all over the nearby area. I live in Arlington and she lives in Chantilly. My wife and I had planned to go up and stay elsewhere as my daughter had elected to go with a friend and her friend's mother. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend with them because she became very ill, yet still needs to compete. I called around to various hotels, but all that was left at the major chains were King beds into which a rollaway bed wasn't permitted due to fire safety concerns. So, I called The Gables and spoke to Cesar, the owner. I explained to him the situation and asked if we'd be able to stay at the hotel past checkout so that my daughter could sleep as long as possible in hopes that she'd feel better. Not only did he allow us to stay as long as necessary, but he put me in contact with his sister, Jeannette, who would be in charge when I arrived. I explained the situation to her and she was waiting at the hotel when we arrived. Immediately she took my daughter up to our room while I brought in the luggage and completed check in with her. She provided a brief tour of the area and showed me where I could find tea, hot water, and other things to make my daughter more comfortable. She also kindly offered a glass of wine since I'd just completed a three hour drive. As we're checking out today, I inquired how late we could stay and both Cesar and Jeannette said not to worry. Cesar even offered that Jeannette had previously worked in healthcare and to let her know if we needed any medicine. To say that they've been accommodating is an understatement. The team here at The Gables is the best service I've experienced in years and I'm only giving 5 stars because I can't give more. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel itself is phenomenal. This place is rich with history and the owners are ready and willing to tell you all about it! You will feel welcomed instantly and the decor and detail inside is to die for!! We stayed on the 3rd floor in room 12, it was the youngest daughters room, who also happened to be the favorite! Gorgeous view from the window, bed was extremely comfortable, and temperature was easily accessible with individual thermostat in each room! Breakfast was great and again the staff couldn't have been more friendly and inviting! The pups, Pepper and Sugar are also a delight and so well behaved! They even had breakfast with us!! We will be back and you should definitely book a room if ever in town! read more

Gracious hostess, Jeanette was a gem. The public rooms were spectacular. However, our suite in the outbuilding was large, but with bedroom and bathroom on separate floors, NOT good for midnight visits. The bathroom was outdated, with only one sink and mirror. Hallway carpeting was filthy; suite carpeting not much better. No light blocking materials for the 3 overhead bedroom windows, so at 5 am the sun came streaming in filling the room with light, and our day suddenly, unfortunately, got off on the wrong foot!! read more

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Gables for our anniversary celebration - what a hidden treasure in the City of Reading. The location is very easy to find along Centre Ave. Cesar texted earlier in the day to confirm our reservation, and we arrived and were greeted right away by Linda. She showed us to our room and otherwise let us be for the rest of the evening. I absolutely loved that they have kept the original mansion feel to the whole home - the furnishings, the hardwood floors, the fixtures...all feel like it was just how the Sternbergh family left it. On a cold evening, it took a bit of time for the room to heat up, but once it did, we were very comfortable. We could see most of Reading and Wyomissing from our location, and even ventured out onto the Terrace Balcony - would be a lovely location to spend an afternoon. We slept very well and enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared by Linda in the morning. Fresh coffee and OJ, fresh fruit, pumpkin bread, french toast, bacon, and scrambled eggs...all of it was excellent. Linda then gave us a tour of the main floor (piano, music room, dining rooms, etc), you can tell they love to care for the history of the place. I recently had my wedding at The Gables at Stirling Guest Hotel and I will say that the ONLY good things about this venue is the owner, Cesar, and how beautiful the actual mansion is itself. Everything else was just short of a nightmare. For some background, I booked this venue for my wedding almost 2 years ago and it changed ownership just about 4 months before my wedding on 10/13/19. During this whole process, we went through 3 different wedding coordinators and the last one we worked with for the 3 months leading up to the wedding and day of... not only did she have zero event planning experience but she seemed to always be annoyed with any request I had and I found it extremely difficult to communicate with her. I had been promised under the new ownership that my experience would be even better and that everything in my previous contract would be honored--not the case. There were several instances where she tried to tell me something different from my original contract and she made excuses for her laziness when things didn't get done. She was most definitely the biggest headache of the experience. As I mentioned previously, we went through several different chefs... the one we had to use for our wedding, we did not get to try his food, as this change was only a couple weeks before our wedding day. I wish we had--although we wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. Our food was barely warm and some of our guests' entrees were cold, the prime rib was skimpy, some of our guests experienced half frozen hor dourves, our vegan option was basically just a plate of over-seasoned vegetables and some of our guests were left still hungry after they ate. Luckily we had plenty of cake. Overall, my guests had fun (all thanks to the alcohol we bought and our DJ) and the wedding was aesthetically beautiful (my family and bridesmaids basically set up the ceremony and reception area though.) but if I could do it all over again, I would not have had it there for the headache and anxiety I experienced. The owner of the venue is very sweet And I know he had a lot on his plate, but they need to hire an experienced wedding planner who knows what she's doing, can lead a team, is organized, and actually wants to make the bride and groom happy. read more

I have recently attended a wedding at The Gables at Stirling. This was my first experience with a bed and breakfast and I am quite pleased. Pulling into the property transports you back in time. The building and grounds are gorgeous and stately. I have an affinity for the architecture of this time...this home was built in 1892 and has been maintained to reflect the era. Our host Cesar is the primary reason for the 5 stars. We were treated exceptionally well with every request receiving his full attention. He was kind enough to provide us with a history of the property and the opportunity to explore the mansion completely. Our room was on the 3rd floor and in the middle of August we found it to be warm on arrival but it cooled down considerably. Our bed was comfortable. I was surprised to realize how quiet our room was. We did not hear other guests or outdoor noise. The furnishings and decor are actual original family pieces, which contribute to the vibe of the property. Breakfast was served and was delicious on both mornings. I certainly enjoyed our 2 night stay and if I ever find myself needing overnight accommodations in the area again I would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

If you are looking for a perfect place for your special event venue... the Gables at the Stirling Guest and Hotel at Reading PA is the picture-perfect one. The catering/food and attendees' pleasant experiences are all in one at this hotel. We held our HS 30th reunion at the Sterling and this is one of the most wonderful memories I will treasure forever. We were all booked together in the hotel that made it easier to organize the event. We were all given a great accommodation with extra-large Victorian room, big beds and clean huge bathrooms (best quality bath towels). When it comes down to amenities, we were delightfully happy from arrival to departure. Free WiFi, complimentary drinks and food, extra fun for kid, huge parking space, pool, elegant ambiance with beautiful garden and patio. A well-maintained mansion full of history. But I will never forget to mention how the owners are so generous, pleasant and caring. What a truly magnificent place for any venue. We did a girls overnight trip and were amazed at this place. Our Hosts Cesar and Stephan are the most down to earth people you could ever come in contact with. They go far over the top at making sure you feel welcomed. The place is fantastic, beautiful and very well kept, but a trip is not memorable if the people are not. I will always remember these people for the kindness they show not just the guests but the community and the world. We were here for only one night while visiting family in the area. The mansion is beautiful. The owner was extremely friendly. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the place. We were actually greeted by the gardener/grounds keeper when we arrived who was warm and friendly also. I haven't anything bad to say about the place. They are also very community oriented. Will definitely be staying again. We didn't have breakfast here during our stay since we were dining with family but the aroma in the place when we left was heavenly. Stirling is an absolute wonderful place! We had our wedding here and could not have been more pleased! Everyone complimented on the delicious food and ambiance and decor of the house. We stayed here for 3 nights over the Thanksgiving weekend and were in the Family Suite. The place is a lovely blend of different styles (Victorian, Gothic, & can't remember the other one) that was built over 100 years ago and there is a lot of attention to detailing in the woodwork, fireplaces, & lights. It looks like a lot of the furniture was original along with the artwork. We were not the typical guests because we just used it as a B&B, but it sounded like a lot of weddings, concerts, & family reunions take place. The summer must be an awesome time to visit with a pool & pool house in back. The day we left there was a baby shower brunch going. Breakfast was served buffet style the first 2 days, then since we were the only guests left, our orders were taken on the last day. Wow, the brie mushroom omelet was just amazing, along with the french toast. Our room was a suite, a room just for our child and the main bedroom was larger than our own, so that felt decadent. And all of the rooms have their own bathrooms. Hope we can stay here next time we're in town. read more

My favorite place to celebrate in Reading PA. Although I now live in NJ, Reading is my hometown and that said, I spend a lot of holidays traveling and dining in Reading PA. Not having any family members to celebrate with other than my Mom and teenage son STIRLING GUEST HOTEL has been my chosen destination for EVERY holiday meal offered for several years now. 1. The food is AMAZING. (Chef is incredibly talented and actually PREPARES his selections as opposed to "re-heating" pre-fab things) 2. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating to seniors. 3. The staff is incredibly kind and accommodating to children. 4. The heart of families is comprised of both seniors and children hence these guys and gals are literally real-life Santa Clauses!!! Thank you to the awesome staff of the Gables At Stirling Guest Hotel! My family came over to stay. The rooms are very spacious, and the decorations show the character that this building had over the century. The food they serve for breakfast was catered to our food preferences as well. The staff are very attentive. We enjoyed walking around the grounds as there were so many mature trees. Our kids also enjoyed the pool. For the price of our stay vs. staying at a traditional hotel, this is our $$$ well spent for 3 days. We will definitely come back to stay at The Gables At Stirling Guest Hotel. This is our first visit and stay in this amazing hotel. Perfect in every way. We had our 30th high school reunion in the hotel and stayed for 3 days. Cesar is the new owner of the hotel and he was really hands on with everything. The service was impeccable. At first I was unsure how everything would pan out since we have our families and it was a drive from the airport but everything worked out. You don't need to go anywhere cause you can do everything in the hotel. The grounds is spacious that they even put up a volleyball net. But since it's hot that time we visited, a dip on the pool was much needed. The rooms are big and the food is superb. Waaaaay better than hotels. Our room has a fridge that is stocked with water that you don't have to pay extra for. The place is picture perfect for those Instagram shots. Cesar also gave us a tour of the hotel including the basement and attic. If you are into those things, it's interesting to note what is across the street. Definitely will be back. I just had my wedding here on April 27th, 2013 & I can honestly say it was the best day of my life. The venue is absolutely beautiful and everything was perfect from the service to the food. Everyone was raving about how delicious the food was and what a unique place it was to have a wedding. The owners are the most wonderful people and they spend so much attention to every detail. Chef Ron is incredible and everything he prepares is yummy! How he managed to cook 100 steaks to perfection is beyond me but he pulled it off. And the breakfast the following day was no exception. What a special special and incredible mansion to say the least! The Stirling has recently been purchased and the new owners are committed to outstanding service. I had been to events at the Stirling Mansion in the past and always find the ambiance and architecture a sight to behold. Now the rooms upstairs are available for overnight stays. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend the night in Diana's Suite on the second floor of the mansion. WOW! What a dreamy spot. The 4 post king size bed was super comfortable. The fireplace added so much charm on a chilly night in June (!!), the bathroom was huge, a large dining table in the room was impressive..all of these touches and more made you feel like royalty. To top it off the hospitality of Desiree and Rick was top notch. They were both very warm, genuine, accommodating and nothing was too much to ask. OH, and the BREAKFAST!! Delicious!! The chef whipped up a harvarti cheese and mushroom omelet, perfectly cooked bacon, potatoes, english muffin and fruit all presented beautifully! Treat yourself to this special mansion!! read more

Our entire wedding experience with Stirling was flawless from our first consultation through the weekend of celebrating. The owners are down-to-earth, professional, and detail-oriented...they think of everything! I recently got married here on 10/13/18 and from start to finish I had the best time of my life. We had a lot of family flying in, so the ability to house them all in one place, spending time with us, and not having to worry about driving to and from was great! The owners Tj and Peter are attentive, professional, and a well oiled machine. The staff were all courteous and fast with their service from drinks to dishes to flipping the rooms. EVERYONE raved about the food, the serving sizes were generous, and the drinks well made. We had a martini as a special drink and they made a great one! Day of, it rained and our ceremony site had to be moved. Before I knew it, the entire set up was moved and Tj walked my husband, dad, and his brother through the changes so that we all were comfortable with where to go. My Fairy Tale Wedding: From the moment we booked the Stirling Guest Hotel to the weekend of the wedding, I couldn't be more thrilled with how perfectly everything went. This is an incredible venue, and if you are looking for an elegant, classy, yet somewhat different venue, I highly recommend the Stirling. Firstly, the entire staff is wonderful. TJ was so laid-back and stress-free, yet somehow had everything under control at all times. He was so friendly and so easy to deal with, and did everything in his power to make all of my requests a reality! We had a Saturday wedding, so we rented out all of the 16 rooms for our guests, which was really convenient as we didn't have to worry about transportation or an after party after the reception because everything was right there. We also had a wedding of 190, so we went with a tented reception on the lawn, which turned out to be a great decision, as we had wonderful weather and it was so nice to be outside. The tent was dressed up with the lighting and decorations that we used, so it really was an amazing night. People were free to come and go between the mansion and the tent throughout the reception to use the restrooms or hang out inside. As far as the food goes, it was absolutely delicious, and we are still getting comments from guests about how great the food tasted! The rooms themselves are so vintage and so antique- like nothing I've ever seen before and it really felt so much more special than a regular hotel room. This place is absolutely gorgeous, and every single thing ran so smoothly. Additionally, for the size and quality of our wedding, I know for a fact we got an exceptional value as well. There are very few places that can compare to the Stirling, and my only regret is that I wasted time looking at other venues first! We couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect wedding day. My sister just had her wedding weekend at The Stirling. The rehearsal dinner on Friday set up as a buffet was perfect for the occasion. Breakfast buffets on both Saturday and Sunday morning for the wedding party staying onsite was amazing! Every part of the cocktail hour and wedding reception dinner was great. Many of us agreed that it was the best "wedding food" we've ever had! TJ and his entire crew at The Stirling are so incredibly nice and accommodating - seriously everyone is so friendly and I'm not quite sure how they put up with us for the whole weekend! The venue itself is also very cool, the rooms are large, clean, and each one is unique which is a very nice change of scenery from a standard cookie-cutter hotel. My husband and I had our wedding at the Stirling in May, and it was absolutely wonderful. The venue itself is beautiful and elegant. The artwork, furniture, and other details are so exquisite that we felt the need to do very minimal decorating. It is definitely different from the typical reception hall, which we loved. It created a unique and intimate atmosphere for our big day. Additionally, the entire staff is phenomenal. We worked with TJ to plan the event, and he was very helpful and easy to work with. We were planning the wedding from out of state, and he was so accommodating and just made the whole planning process very easy. The staff was also fantastic. Everyone was very personable, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure that everything went smoothly on the big day. The food was delicious. The rooms were beautiful. The pricing was very reasonable. I cannot say enough good things about this venue. Everything about it was more perfect than I could have imagined, and I have absolutely no complaints.
