When the hostess seated us, she showed us the specials. She said oh!, I don't even know what the one item is, but the cook is very good. Were served rolls that were burnt on top. Hostess made dumb excuse. When the waiter took our order, we asked about the filet mignon because my wife had one on another occasion which was not very tender. He replied that he had one himself the week before and it was very good. Dumb us- we each ordered one anyway (medium rare). Didn't happen. Both were chewy and NOT medium rare. This place has a ton of potential but unfortunately it's under realized. Ambiance is nice and staff friendly enough. Can't stand when places like this go cheap and cut corners. That's what we experienced dining here. Salads made cheap, appetizers were the same. For example, the clams are exactly what you would get at a cheap Chinese buffet, not little neck. I got the seafood sizzler as my main course. I'd be embarrassed to send it to anyone. Three tiny shrimp, two imitation scallops and a mini crab cake, for $33. Do better and give your customers what they pay for. read more

My family and I come here every Christmas season so eat together as a family. Usually around 12 people. We have always enjoyed the atmosphere and food but this time was a total disaater. when we arrived, we saw that there was two separate tables for our family to sit at which is absolutely unacceptable. We if we could get them put together and Jennifer our waitress said they only have two cooks, one waitress broke her leg and they weren't even going open for the holidays so we should basically just enjoy how it was set up anyway and suck it up. Completely unacceptable. I've been to many places where staff would immediately accodate us. Futhermore, she refused to separate the check because she said she needed to know before hand and we did let her know before and then she lied and said she didn't hear us. We had to take home the check and try to figure out what everyone owes. This whole experience was disastrou. She then accused me for abusing her because I ask for the owner and told her she was being rude the entire night. We spend a lot of money there every time we come and it has always been pleasant for the most part. Your hostess is a bit rude but she is tolerable but your in the customer service industry, and your waitresses need to have customer service. We will never be back after tonight and that is a shame. The DeLorean of Berks County visits....Yellow House Hotel was our stop for dinner last night. A Berks County Historic Landmark since 1801. Without a reservation, they fit us in! Service was incredible, as was the food. Like most restaurants they are finding it hard to staff. ..as they would like. But nonetheless, they did not miss a step. The salads were chilled and the filet was done to perfection. We did not feel rushed even though they were faced with a busy night. Their bar was quite active for a weeknight. What a find! We have lived in Mohnton for over 2 years and only just heard of this restaurant, not far from us. Beautiful ambience, lovely service and delicious food at very reasonable prices. We were there for lunch and decided to sit in the bar area. The bartender/waitress Jennifer was extremely busy so we didn't expect to be waited on right away but it took 25 minutes just to get a drink and another 15 to order. At one point my husband asked for another beer and after 10 minutes asked again and she barked at him "Sir! I heard you the first time". Absolutely uncalled for. Then waited 50 minutes for two sandwiches to come out of the kitchen! When we asked f the bill she took our card laid it on the register and went to help other customers for another ten minutes before ringing us out. At which point she asked if we had 3 beers or 2 and when my husband said 2 she interrupted saying I think you had 3 as if he was lying. Our party of 4 had a 5 PM reservation. The doors are locked until 5, so you can't even wait in the bar over a cocktail. Once they let us in, everyone crowded into the small lobby like a herd of cattle. The host was grouchy and gruff at best from the very start. Our server was excellent, but the food was slow coming out of the kitchen. The swordfish was small, dry, salty and overcooked. Our friend ordered an end cut of prime rib , well done. He had to send it back because it was cold and pink inside. Of course that delayed our meal considerably. We were just finishing up our coffee when the host arrived and said he needed our table ..no apologies, just said we could move to a table in the corner so that he could seat someone else at our table. Why not seat those people at the table in the corner? I don't get it. We were there as long as we were because the food was so late in arriving, not due to any fault of our own. I would often drive by this restaurant and wonder what the food was like! Welp I need not wonder anymore... My spouse and I were promptly seated in the room of our choice, after about 10 minutes we were asked what we'd like to order- choosing the bar area as service is usually quicker we placed our food (2courses) and drink order together. After 10 minutes- in the bar! we got our drinks; the 1st course was delivered about 20 minutes later- the taste was pretty good and it was hot. The following 20 minutes, we received our bread, 2 baby fist sized warm rolls. We finished, then I said to spouse, look around, nobody is eating! It's bad when we pull out our phones to catch up and share interests. 1 hour later- 60 minutes! we got our main dishes, but we were no longer hungry. Sadly to say, my spouses order was not room temperature, but had picked up a coldness! It was pink in middle at one point, but had finished cooking off while the waitress was off somewhere! and it now had that grey color meat picks up. My order was ok as I ordered a non-hot meal, and the protein which I requested was hot at one time, but had cooled. In addition there was a spice on one of the ingredients that wasn't mentioned and clashed with the flavor of the other ingredients and being a rather good cook, I would not have had it near this dish. Thankfully a server from another room came in to bus the table(s) as the empty dishes were piling up as each course finished. The waiter NEVER came by to see if all was ok. We even had to search, stand, then wait for our tab! Overall, this meal had us seated for over two hours, in the bar area! It was expensive and the service was so very sorely lacking. In hindsight, we should had dropped a twenty after the rolls were devoured. Soooo no. Not again at this place. We're not that bored or hungry, and our time is too precious to waste on expensive mediocre cold standing food. Good thing no small children were involved. That would had been disastrous. Two stars for ambiance as I enjoy the atmosphere of an old hotel but missing 3 for the food/drink. I feel this place is terribly overpriced and lacks imagination in their menu. What food I've ordered was nothing special - edible but nothing to write home about. I've ordered their vegetable pasta along with a handful of appetizers in the past. We planned a small family brunch for my husband's 70th birthday. Having eaten at Yellow House before today's visit and always enjoying the food and service, we were highly disappointed in the burnt omelets and wrong orders. I couldn't finish my breakfast. Not sure if they overbooked or were short on help and cooks, but we won't be returning. What should have been a memorable day turned out frustrating, to say the least. Yellow House Hotel is our favorite restaurant. They serve the best home made snapper soup in the universe. I call their burger the Perfection Burger because they make it exactly the way I like it. The atmosphere is historic and welcoming. Their bartender/server is also the best in the universe. She is so hospitable, welcoming, accomodating and fun. I've been coming here for lunch for years. My parents have been coming here for double that. We always eat in the bar and love the cozy feeling of the room. The waitstaff is so friendly and treat you like family. I love their soup and salad specials which are almost always delicious. They make really great soups and dressings. The staff is friendly and nice. The menu is diverse and well thought out for the clientele. From fresh shucked oysters to liver pate the Yellow House has something for everyone for the experienced diner and fun seeker. The decor is amazing and Patty the owner is always changing it with the seasons. The prices are in line and the value is great. The staff works their butts off to make your visit memorable. House made salad dressings are off the charts. The house made breads and cakes are better then grandmas best. A great wine list, awesome steaks, fresh seafood and appetizers with a great vibe makes this off the trail Gem a must visit. The night we visited I ordered the spinach salad with fresh salmon cooked rare. $18.00 bucks and it took me two days to finish it. Incredible Value Fricking amazing!!! Recommended Yellow House for a rehearsal dinner site to the out-of-town, groom's family. They booked the date months in advance and pre-ordered for all 30 guests. One server was working the room. Drinks were served rather quickly; but, we then waited 50+ minutes. The server then brought rolls, soup, and salad, but only after the lack of attention was brought to the hostess's attention. We went there for ambience, a drink and a bite. Ambience is spot on. My drink was awful. I'm not blaming anyone, I just think you should rethink this drink. It was a special, a strawberry martini. I asked if it was sweet, and was told not too sweet. It was horribly sweet. Like thick strawberry syrup put into a glass with vodka. The bartender, who was very nice, kept putting more vodka into it to thin it down. It didn't work. The caeser salad was supposed to be grilled lettuce leaves with dressing. My leaves were not grilled, just whole romaine leaves. On several the tops were wilted. The dressing was on the side in a small ramiken, it tasted like hollandaise sauce. No garlic, worsestershire sauce, anchovy paste, very bland, thick, and the leaves had parmesean sprinkled on top. There were unseasoned boxed croutons on top as well. Not good. I only give this critique in the hopes you can improve on the salad, and especially the drink. We do like this place, and hope to come back! read more

Having never been here, we were pleasantly surprised. Food was great! Lee started with the baked Brie which was very creamy and sweet with the jelly.
