Hop aboard The Galleon and set sail for a wild ride around the Florida Keys! Wait, wrong type of Galleon. The one I'm writing about is more of the grounded/foundation/building kind, and on my recent trip down to Key West I had a pleasant experience at said establishment. My travels were with a handful of coworkers as we escaped the NY cold to get some Florida sun. They had come to The Galleon two years prior and stayed in quite an odd and anything-but-enticing room. Luckily, adding me into the mix gave the need for an upgrade to one of their larger quarters that faced the marina. We walked in and there was some awe to our reactions. Maybe it was all the negative convos I had overheard about their previous place, but this was quite the space (too much rhyming?). Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, a spiral staircase, a kitchen and dining area, and a breathtaking view (complete with balcony). We kept those balcony doors open most of the time just to really drive in that balmy feel. Beyond our rockin' room was the pool and beach area. Well, the pool was exactly as stated (a pool), but that beach? It was more of a tiny, sandy spot with a few chairs and no real waves. Hey, it was a way to get into the ocean and there was one of those floating wooden docks you could climb up on so it had that going for it. The rest of the outdoor area included a deck with plenty of tables and lounge chairs as well as the majority of this exterior section: the tiki bar. Hanging out back here really let the laid back Key West feeling sink in. So why not five stars? Despite the beauty of the room, by the third day, you could notice some wear and tear in spots that took away some of that original luster. Plus, it should be noted that The Galleon is really more of a timeshare, so housekeeping isn't an everyday occurance (we learned the hard way when we ran out of towels). Staff is also few and far between, but we ran into no big issues so this wasn't a problemo for us. Overall, The Galleon does deliver the essentials for a relaxing time when in Key West. You've got everything you need right there (including a nice happy hour special at that tiki bar) and a short walk away from the bustle of Duval Street. My coworkers are planning a return trip in two years and you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be shacking up again aboard the ship...er, um establishment that is The Galleon. read more

Disappointing at best. We had reservations for a five night stay. My husband had a medical emergency on the first night and was taken by ambulance to Miami. I returned to the hotel to check out early, only to be told I had to pay for the full 5 night stay. We had only spent one night. Just be aware the management will only allow refunds during hurricanes. In addition, the unit was run down and seriously outdated. read more

Been staying here for years, usually twice a year. We are owners of one week here as it is a timeshare resort. We purchased in around 8 years ago. Best value if you vacation in Key West yearly. Every room has a view, the building sits right on the ocean. Spacious Units for at least 2 couples. Pool is great and there is tiny beach access. Close to everything on Duval. read more

Ok. Our room was BEAUTIFUL. That is the part that matters. Full upgraded kitchen, comfy beds, beautiful views, nice TV, and more. We could not have asked for more. The pool, tiki bar (a bit expensive), sunset views, and location were A +++++++. The part where the Galleon lost a star for us was the exterior. The breeze ways were old and dated as well as the pool chair, the sauna smelled funny, and the lobby was crazy! Let's just say when we walked in we were seriously concerned with what we had booked. But like I said the room was beautiful. I'd book again, but I'd hope the sign in the lobby stating "excuse the mess were upgrading" applies to something worthy soon. read more

It comes with great disappoint and sadness I have to write this review. After many great years spent at this hotel I have to put a 1 star review. I was out up for a 4 night stay at a rate of $400 a night which for the keys isn't to bad so hey why not right? Wrong... My room ends up being outside of the resort, outside of the security, on the street... they basically had this unit originally as a made quarters which they converted into rooms. It wreaks of mold the minute you walk in. Complained multiple times and manager just brushed it off. The street is so loud and there's no security once you get to this portion of the resort. Felt totally unsafe the entire stay. Parking was a nightmare!! Management was terrible. Couldn't check in until 5pm!! This place has gone off a cliff and I wouldn't recommend anyone staying here. Spend 100 bucks more to be anywhere else. Even if you get yourself one of the nicer rooms here for 1k a night you still have to deal with a completely understaffed and underprepared staff. To begin the Galleon Resort's customer service and management is rude and unreasonable. My family and I came with the 7 of us and we booked 2 rooms and needed 2 parking spots. We had travelled with a car and rented a golf cart for the kids as they are of driving age. The resort denied us 2 parking spots saying you can only have 1 per reservation however we had 2 rooms. We paid a lot of money for this resort with terrible wifi and poorly put together rooms. The management spoke to us as if we were stupid and would not reason with us. We wished we had a different experience because the Keys are beautiful but if you plan on traveling here do not stay at this resort. read more

I'd give it a one, but location means a lot in Key West. You can walk anywhere you want from this hotel. However, this is it's only redeeming quality. The rooms were dirty and needed updating. When I say dirty, I mean keep your sandals on at all times. The management would give the Nazis a run for their money when it comes to parking. My in-laws rented a two-story suite that combined 2 rooms, and they wouldn't even give them 2 parking spaces to go with it. How can you rent out a room that is designed to sleep more guests than can fit in one vehicle, and not give out two vehicle passes? And the prices weren't that good read more

October 2012: I have read some of the negative views about this resort and I could not disagree with them more. We had an awesome 2 bedroom 2 bath "condo" overlooking the ocean and marina.Waking up and looking out at the ocean and the marina with the million $$ boats was amazing. It was very clean and the bathroom's have all been updated and are beautiful. The decor is a beachy vacation vibe as you would expect in Key West. This resort is 2 blocks from Duval St and Mallory Square and there are 30 a 40 places to eat and drink just outside the resort. The pool was very nice with a great Tiki Bar attached that had live music at night. We are not "high maintenance" guest so maybe that is why we had a great time. If you need maid service on a daily basis this is not the place for you. They come once a week with fresh bath towels and change linens and do a general cleaning. They provide pool towels that you can change out daily at the pool which is also very nice and well kept-up. And they have a cute little sandy beach next to the pool which is rare in Key West. Our Check-in was slow only beacuse there was a little old lady checking in front of us that didn't want to leave them an imprint of her CC. We had a small issue with our Thermostat (it was a little cold in our room) and we called down and a maintenance man was there to re-place it immedialty. I also had a package delivered to the hotel and as soon as it arrived they called to let me know they had it waiting for me. The only negative thing I could say about this place is that the Bartenders at the Tiki Bar could have been nicer. l have been to Key West 5 times and stayed in cheap motels, nice hotels and vacation condo rentals and this is the only place I would ever stay again. read more

We own a week in December at the Galleon so we have come here each year for the past 5 years. We traded it alot in the past. This is an expensive area so you will be paying premium for this resort. The view from the rooms is spectacular whether you are on the ocean side or marina. You can walk anywhere in old town Key West so you don't really need a car if you fly down. The rooms are clean and they are currently doing an update of all the rooms with new kitchens which was way over due. I'd give it a 5 star if the kitchens were nicer. The bedrooms and bathrooms have all been refurbished which are really nice The sliding doors to the bathrooms however have the cheap hardware so they may not lock well in your unit. The front desk has been very courteous and helpful the last few years we have visited but I have been exposed to some not so courteous personnel in the past so I understood the complaints. Everything is very clean and yes, parking is at a premium in Key West. Remember, it's an island. Parking under the hotel is tight but a little easier if you park outside. This area is paradise and we really enjoy coming down here every year. read more

Hmm... I had a different experience than Michelle. We actually had a good time at the Galleon. It was clean and quite comfortable. It's mainly a family place. Not too many young adults. Kids, but not young adults. We enjoyed the pool, the floating bar and grille, their tiny private beach and we even utilized their bbq grille there on the beach. We stunk up the whole resort when we threw my Jamaican Jerk Chicken on it. The whole resort reeked of savory Jerk Sauce : ) They have poolside bingo and regular raffle drawings which makes things kinda fun and campy. They even have an activities director that, from what I could tell; she did a great job on getting people involved with everything Key West has to offer. read more

We have owned here for about 10 years. my family treats it like their second home. the views are amazing, the room are large, and the amenities at the resort are more than adequate. if you are looking for a 5 star resort with butler service, this is not it!! if you are looking for a great location and a family friendly resort this is it!! and yes, it is true they only give out 1 parking pass per unit. the parking garage is very tight and usually always full!! read more

We had a good experience here. We rented out the top condo of the resort/marina from a private owner, but had access to the full resort and amenities. Our room was nice, spacious, and very good for our honeymoon. Hot tub, full kitchen, big shower, a computer, and 2 tvs. The best part was our own private access to the top of the resort which gave us a 360 view of the entire marina. Beautiful! The pool was great (drinks were expensive). So, we suggest BOYB for the pool. The location is key. It puts you within walking distance of everything! read more

Let me just start out and say this if the first negative review I have ever posted on anybody, but it has been bothering us all weekend. We have stayed at this timeshare resort multiple times over the years, and even when we don't stay there, we love to come out to the Tiki Bar and order some drinks and/or eat lunch. We know in recent years we had order food from Pirates Cove and bring it out to the bar since the Tiki Bar stopped serving food directly. This year, for a 65th birthday celebration, we rode up on bicycles and were told by the security guard that the entire property was reserved for registered guests only, and we could not park our bikes at the property bike racks. (We've done this for 15 years). We parked outside the entrance, and then walked around to the bar. Then our group of 10 harmless sixty-five year-old professionals was basically kicked off the property because we were mistakenly accused of being with another group using the pool facility (which we did not). In fact, we we were the only customers at the bar at the time. An older white-haired gentleman identified himself as "the Manager" (well, he was carrying a walkie-talkie and a tucked-in polo shirt...), said he's worked there 20 years and the policy has always been the same. We were instructed that we could only access the rear Tiki Bar by the dock walkway, and we were not to set foot by the pool, beach, parking lot, or anywhere on the property. One man in our group politely stated that we've come for years and patronized and spent a lot of money at the property, but we won't be doing that ever again, and the "manager's" statement was "Well, that's a good thing" I understand the concern for security for the property owners and registered guests, but his arrogant little power-trip outburst to us was truly bizarre. I'm not sure if there is some internal business issues going on between the property itself and the food and beverage operators, but we were really shocked. The bartender quietly apologized for treatment, and has never seen that happen. And he was actually nice to recommend another newer property that ended up exceeding our hospitality needs. Sorry to leave many great memories at the Galleon on that note, and will drop our thoughts of picking up a time-share purchase there. I found this very expensive for the size of the room . the people at the front desk weren't overly friendly the air conditioning unit was noisy, the fan was noisy didn't get much sleep. After telling them that the noise was so bad that we did not get much sleep they made no accommodation to at least give us some kind of breakfast or credit or anything. Location was great. For our honeymoon we wanted to go somewhere tropical but not far away so we wouldn't have to deal with jet lag/travel time. We decided on the Florida Keys. The time we picked (early Sept) happens to be low season so everything was pretty cheap. Still hotel rooms weren't offering great deals on rooms. That is when we turned to home away. On home away we found a condo at the Galleon Resort. The condo came with a tub that had jets, a private jacuzzi deck, and a private viewing deck. I'm not really going to review the room here because that is privately owned, so not the responsibility of the resort. The room though was amazing and I would go back in a heart beat. The resort itself was great. Yes it is a little older and could use some TLC, but overall it isn't a bad place to stay. They have a small beach with a swimming area, a large deck to sun on, a deli, and a bar. Because we came during low season there was never anyone else at the beach, plenty of seats on the deck, and parking was a breeze. Everyone we interacted with was also very friendly (except for one bartender, but that is another review). We wanted to go parasailing so we used the concierge service. She had us on a boat with a discounted price in less than 5 minutes. It was great! The location couldn't have been better either. Other than the day we drove to the airport for a seaplane ride, we never had to use our car. We walked everywhere easily. It is close enough to downtown that you can enjoy it without being overwhelmed by being in downtown. The only thing I could possibly ding them for is the resort does need some picking up. Our room was right on the roof so when we used one of the decks you got some powerful pigeon poop smells. Again though, not the end of the world. There was no high pressure sales techniques to buy into the time share either. Know ahead of time that the rooms are privately owned and so that limits what the resort is/is not responbile for. 80/100 read more

I was very excited to stay at the Galleon Resort, but sadly it was a disappointing experience. They had the worst wifi that would only work if you were on your balcony. They were very stingy with their supplies like toilet paper and towels. In the master sweet the bathtub was connected to the shower and it was impossible to get in and out of without almost losing my balance and falling over. The worst of all, they only allowed one parking pass even though my family and I had booked two rooms and rented a golf cart. They were very rude about it and made us park our golf cart down the street. This caused us to continuously have to pay for parking on the street and overnight. The staff was not up to the expectations set for this resort and key west as a whole. The customer service helper named Toby was not helpful at all with our problems and was very rude to us. He was unresponsive and made it seem that he did not care about us or care about our return to the resort. read more

What a perfect place to enjoy the Keys! Walkable to everything including your favorite restaurants, sight seeing places and bars. The pool, beach and the view are incredible. There was a full kitchen in our unit and a supermarket down the street to buy our favorite coffee and bagels. On January 19th 2019 around midnight police responded to a call at The Galleon in Key West Florida regarding illegal discrimination against a service animal and her owner. As Arri was walking her trained and marked service animal, resort staff repeatedly informed her she was unable to walk her service dog across the resort property. When informing them this was an actual service animal they still insisted it was not allowed on property. When she was forced to walk back across this property later that evening (as it is impossible to not get to her home without walking on this resort dock) she was again informed she was unable to walk her dog on resort property. She was NOT using their grounds for a bathroom for her service animal and they repeatedly accused she didn't have a bag. After Informing them that she was simply stationed at the marine docks, and not using their property as a urinal, the security guard became irate and police were called and a report was filed so as to have records of the incidents about the service dog illegal limitations. After police arrived and they informed management they had to let her pass due to federal law about service animals, the next morning the management staff again harrassed her regarding her service animal. They asked if she had the dog at every point when walking off property and that because she had left her on the boat at any point that she "obviously did not need her". Greg, senior management on staff, continued to harass, humiliate, and question her need of the dog beyond the scope of the two allowed questions and asked about her medical history. A witness was present. As he was continuing to harass her, and they were doing nothing besides standing still and attempting to enjoy the day, another unleashed and untrained dog approached the area they were in, and urinated and defecated, to which management saw and didn't say a word, and instead continued ri humiliate the woman for having her service dog. read more

Wow. So first I will say that the highlight of this resort was the tiki bar(s), especially bartender Micheal's. We stayed here for 2 nights. Everything was fine, no problems similar to Alejandra's or Michelle's. The rooms was an apartment, which I wasn't expecting (I did not book the place). It had a full kitchen, a little dining table, two tvs, nice sized master bedroom, gorgeous master bath, great view as well. Absolutely gorgeous and unobstructed. While we were there, there was some kind of pirate ship duel we were able to watch from the roof. I do think that the rates were overpriced, but I think you are paying mostly for the view here. The lobster place across the street is soooooooooo good. read more

Our family loves this place. We all can't wait to go back every year. We are lucky. The good- location: on the gulf in the heart of key west. The pool is well maintained and decent size for key west. The sales and concierge staff are accommodating and have coordinated great day trips. There are many regular people who visit here year after year and love the fact we are only a few steps from the beach. The units have remodeled bathrooms and kitchens, and no need for a car while you are here. Bad- it's hard to exchange into this property. You are fortunate if you can trade into the galleon or rent here. Yes, the rental rates are high- but even higher rates are next door and down the street. I don't own those yachts I see In the marina every morning out my window. I wish I did. I don't get to be here more than a week or two a year. I wish I was here more often. The beach is small. It's on premises, but small. I read all of the Yelp reviews. There are some valid points to the negative comments. They ask you to check out at 10am to prepare for the next guest checking in. I am sure management takes them seriously and addresses them. We have stayed here for 20 years and have not experienced issues with any staff member. When I read the low scores the Galleon was rated by a few reviewers, I.e., bar tenders and wifi issues?? I looked at the other businesses these reviewers rated on Yelp. I was not surprised. Nothing meets these folks expectations. I would not like to travel with these people. They sound miserable and should stop traveling and dining out- or dealing with the public. What you expect, is not achievable, please stay home. I feel for the businesses- who may need to address these negative reviews. Sometimes you just can't win. 1. Our Room. Our room was great because we own Disney time share. No door on the bathroom area though, only the toilet closet, If you are a big person, the toilet closet will be tight. 2. Disney..??? Why did you ever approve of this resort because it doesn't meet any other resort we have stayed at. 3. The Resort. Filthy. The resort is not maintained. Doors, walkways, chairs, elevators, etc. etc., look like they are never cleaned. The entrance to the resort is so run down.. so when you arrive you are kind of surprised and you think maybe you are at the wrong place. There was garbage in the landscape area the whole time we were there. The staff walks past it every day. Filthy rubber torn up mats in the walk way by the tiki bar and pool. The small beach area is actually a good thing. but they don't clean it. We saw a guy rake it but not real sure what happened... because it was still a mess. 4. Staff. The most unfriendly staff of any resort (except Playa Grande in Mexico.) ----Summary. Very unkept resort and the staff doesn't care and they never seem happy or say hi. This is by far the WORST hotel I have ever stayed at in my life. Staff are rude and definitely don't go here if you expect to have access to even a bucket of ice. They have no working ice machines and we're staying in a tiny room for $380 per night. They have broken ice machines that they claim are being replaced. They look at you like you have three heads asking for ice. Like, "You're kidding, right?" Only place they know of to get ice is a bag at the convenience store. Wow, what hospitality. Do yourself a favor and do NOT patron this joke of a hotel that simply exploits its great location as a reason to not even attempt to be an average hotel. The rude staff just adds to the frustration of it all. If the many other one-star reviews of this filthy place aren't enough to drive you elsewhere then have fun taking your chances. As a owner of a penthouse here I can say every time my family has been here it has been good. From what Michelle said about the floors is sort of true. Most of the rooms have carpet except for the kitchen, living, and dining areas, they are tile. The tile gets dirty with you tracking in dirt and sand from the beach and around the resort, hence why they give you a broom and a mop in the closet =) The resort is very nice, a private beach, BBQ grills for you to cook on, beautiful view of the ocean with a sunset, rooms are nice and spacious and a lot have been recently updated, the Tiki bar is great and a nice place to enjoy a drink and lay out in the sun to tan. The staff is kind of stingy about parking because they are not responsible for items lost in cars and don't want to be responsible for to much. However, the resort is great, its close by everything and you can walk from here to everything you'd want to see, so you don't really need to drive really. read more

They have a great location, easy walking distance to all of Old Town. Plus ir is on the waterfront. Being a time share place, the experience is not like a resort hotel, you know you are in a time share. Some of the units often need maintenance or refreshing, and it gets put on the back burner for one reason or another. So, you can get a great unit and love it, or get a problematic one and not enjoy it. A bit of a toss up. read more

I was not really impressed with this place. I looked on Redweek.com and everyone was raving about this place and now I don't know why. To begin with, the staff are not really friendly. Good luck finding parking, especially when one of the members is following you around telling you that you can't park basically everywhere you turn. The room itself is alright. I was really excited about the jacuzzi tub until the water coming out was not hot. The beds were really noisy which was annoying. Then, we go to check out the private "beach" and I kid you not, it looks like a sandbox. Due to the fact that we are not drinkers or smokers, it's hard to find stuff to do. We specifically came here to dive at the "dive capital of the world" and I was not impressed whatsoever. Oh yeah, and good luck finding good food. The food at this hotel was not good- the eggs are really soggy and I was given pancakes instead of the French toast I ordered. Overall, this was not worth it read more

Great location 1 1/2 blocks from the heart of Old Town Key West. Close enough to walk but be out of the frenzy. Beautifully appointed rooms with master suite and very useable kitchen to cook the fish you just caught. Small beach next to the family friendly pool and deck. Large Tiki bar right at the edge of the water for that cold beer or tropical drink, often with live solo musicians. Right at the edge of Key West marina walk. Go and enjoy! read more

We've been staying at the Galleon resort for many many years now. It is my favorite place in Key West. Not fancy but everything works. I love the apartments. the pool is heated and very pretty. And it is great to sit out on the deck overlooking the water. It has a fantastic views as do most of the apartments. The location is fantastic and you can walk to almost everything. I give it a 5 not for it's grand VIP feeling but that it's in the most PERFECT location for vacation. Sure it's a little older but coming to Key West I'm not looking for the grand lifestyle...its Key West. I love the feeling of feeling like a local there. I get to wake up and walk out onto the balcony with the best view of the marina and the water, both in different sights depending on where I look when I first walk out onto the balcony. Guest service was great! Our bartender interactions were inconsistent. Some of them were great some of them weren't the best. I ordered a Miami Vice, which anyone from key west up to the top or Miami seemingly would know what that is but what I got tasted like it had fireball in it...definitely not a daquari drink..but they used the right frozen mixes....the alcohol was the part that was way out of dodge. At any rate, we had a great time! the facilities were very enjoyable. I hope to be able to stay here again. read more

As is typical with most establishments they install WiFi and expect it to run itself. As is typical no one is onsite to bounce the modem when it is down. Invest in your WiFi and get staff trained to get it up and running. A fair signal is worthless get in the game read more

Have stayed here through the years, but have had a thoroughly bad experience this last time. A careless cleaning lady pushed her cart into our car while we were driving in to park. Now that the claim is to be settled, management denies all responsibility. Toby Jenner (assistant manager) showed his true colors by acting like an arrogant weasel to boot. Great location... outdated with very poor, very small parking spots.. however, I have been coming here every year for the last 20 yrs so I know what to expect... but be warned that small kids can EASILY fit through the balcony railings!! My 2 1/2 yr old daughter EASILY fit right through the railings with just a slight turn of her shoulders... her head went through with a couple inches to spare! Within a split second- and I was standing RIGHT there- she slid through the railings hanging on from the OUTSIDE of the balcony and said happily "Look at me!!"... I was in total shock and scared to death! Luckily, she calmly came right back in as easily as she got out. I explained to her that she can never do that again and she could get really bad boo-boo's! When I explained it to the front desk, I was rudely told they hear that alot- the resort is not meant for small kids- and I needed better parental supervision! I was so mad because I was RIGHT THERE! He asked me "What do you want us to do? Plexiglass the whole balcony??" I simply explained, maybe there could at least be a letter in the room stating that kids can fit through the railings, or some sort of warning... I mean, there were even numerous letters in the room stating to not put lobster tails down the garbage disposal, can't they at least put a small warning somewhere for the safety of their guests??? Ive never written a review but while searching for the Galleon information was amazed by the many negative reviews of this resort. I have owned a unit here since 1995 but being a Florida resident traded it away for other locations. After so many years of horrible exchanges have decided to stay at the galleon instead. First the negatives. The Galleon is located at the far end of downtown Key West where there is congestion space and parking.limitations. The property parking is always packed and cramped with service vehicles also coming in and out. Best to park once and walk to wherever you need to go. WHy drive anywhere anyway. The location is awesome. Although the pool is small and can get crowded it has a nice ambience with the adjoining small beach and tiki bar. The waterfront deck and view are great places to relax with fishing at one corner. The adjoining marina is beautiful where we dock our boat for an additional fee.There are many commercial operators with diffwerent activites operating from the marina and adjacent extensive docks. The suites have been updated and are very nice. The views from most units are good with many spectacular, The staff has always been friendly and there are scheduled activities which my young daughter and wife really enjoy. Sunset from the dock or roof viewing area is not to be missed. My family has been to many exotic locations and resorts and and to my surprise this is the one they consistently want to return to. read more
