Much like the Monty Python bit, I can imagine this mall saying, "I'm not dead yet." I've seen some dying malls, and the Galleria is holding it together remarkably well. Sure, there may be some vacancies. Yes, the food court is a bit sparse. And indeed, that was a dollar store you just passed. All the same, on a recent visit, my kids were delighted by a round of glow golf while I went off to do some shopping for presents. I was able to get everything I needed, before they were done. Add a hot pretzel to the mix, and you've got a perfectly fine mall experience. It may not be fancy, but it still gets the job done. read more

The Johnstown Galleria is a magnificent looking but sadly dead mall. It's easy to find, being almost directly off of US-219. The ring road as of my visit is in poor condition, but repairs were occurring in several areas. Lots of parking, but watch for potholes. This mall is two stories and was built by Zamias, so internally it looks magnificent. It's very much a 1990's mall with its coloring and design, but that only helps it. Mall only has two occupied anchors, Boscov's and JCPenney. The former Bon-Ton and Sears remain vacant. Unfortunately, the interior is largely vacant with many empty storefronts, including several occupied ones not being open. Other problems included all four escalators being shut off, and the mall in general feeling dark. Rare Collectibles was probably the most interesting store I found, having various comic books and retro toys. One positive included the food court being almost full, along with other full-service restaurants being available as dining options. The Johnstown Galleria's new owner has a tough battle ahead to save this mall, and I don't know if he will succeed despite this mall looking so magnificent. I wish him luck. read more

I wanted to get this updated review in now before it slipped my mind. I fear that The Galleria is on its last leg. The mall has dwindle more since my review five years ago. So much so that it is nearly pointless to venture past center court as most of the storefronts past here remain empty or have become empty. With this holiday season upon us it will be the last that we see some tenants in the mall. Three stores that have been tenants since the mall opened in 1992. The mall will say goodbye to Spencer's, Bath & Body Works, and American Eagle Outfitters. All three tenants are said to vacate and relocate to Richland Towne Center. As ironic as it is, these stores are venture back to the site that was vacated, tore down, and rebuilt because of The Galleria's opening. Richland Mall got the last laugh it appears in the end. Zamias, the original owner and builder of the mall, has even vacated the many storefronts it once occupied within the mall. With some creative handling this could once again be a vibrant mall in a sense. It may not be your typical mall, but this could still be a destination for people if they want it to be. The outer portion of the property seems to still be thriving as the outparcel lots seem to be able to adapt for the needs of the area. Some restaurants have closed, but they have been quickly replaced in whole or with a remodel. It is nice to see that, but it does not fix the interior of the property. I do still stop by every so often to pick up an item when need be, saving me a trip to other areas. What is sad is that some of the areas that have been closed for some time are starting to show deterioration. The old Bon Ton spot is most notable where there is parts of the façade that is falling off the building. Only time will tell if and when this will be a totally dead mall or if this will be saved. The Galleria Mall is coming back! New owner has put his heart and soul into the mall and stores are beginning to open! Seeing this makes me feel all warm inside and happy that someone actually cares about our mall. Lots of people in the mall. Very clean inside and nice employees. Glad to see the fountain located by Boscov's is up and running again. Food court is almost filled with the exception of 2 spaces. Santa photos going on right now, new restaurant and roller skating rink. Will definitely be back to shop! Hope to see more store fronts open! read more

I have a love hate relationship with this mall. It does not help the situation of my detest in shopping, especially malls, but when the Galleria opened in Richland it killed off the Richland Mall, because it was much bigger and better. Everyone in town and for miles and miles away were goo goo eyed with this two story wonder and slowly but surely the beaten down Richland Mall became a has been and was torn down. Now mind you the stores that were in the Richland Mall which was built by two local brothers, all moved to the spanking new Galleria and who could blame them, traffic is the ticket! The mall is beautiful and has the usual large department stores that you would expect to find in a down trodden town like Johnstown. No Macy's or Bloomingdale's, but a two story J.C. Penny, Boscov's, Bon Ton and Sears. Many shops and stands in between and a large food court plus several restaurants including Italian and Japanese. Parking and lugging packages from store to store and back to your car is what it always is at most malls. Do you know what I like the most about this mall? Many restaurants, businesses and even a grocery store has claimed land surrounding it, however a new and very smartly designed shopping plaza has been built where the Richland Mall once stood. Many have moved out and are now in the new shopping complex and they are getting all the traffic. Payback is a bitch... read more

The Galleria - Shopping Centers Near Me - Johnstown, Pennsylvania

I'm from the Johnstown area and I've been going to the Galleria for many years. Sadly I've seen store after store leave. On the side of the mall where Sears used to be there is almost nothing. 2 more stores are closing and I've heard rumors of others. This truly is sad to me. Yes the age of online shopping has changed things but there are some things better to buy in a physical store. I get my boys formalwear for homecoming and prom at the mall. It used to be Bon-ton or Boscovs now only Boscovs remains for that type of thing. There's not a lot of choices in Johnstown and if the mall closes there will be even less. I will continue to go to the mall as it's open. The Amish Store is amazing. I love JC Penney, Champs Sports, Boscovs, The Italian Oven, and Japanese Steakhouse. I truly hope if the mall does close that some of these places open up elsewhere in Johnstown. I've heard rumors of medical sites looking at the Galleria. I'd love to see a large shopping Center similar to the one in Altoona though so there are still shopping options but if a store closes it doesn't effect the rest as much. read more

For the area, it is solid. Macy's, Nordstrom and the like are simply unrealistic for this area. Those retailers would be nice but they would also never survive in this area which explains why they haven't come. The mall has tried to evolve with the times, which is evident through the Glow Golf and the Candy Kids Salon which were new additions to the mall in recent years. It brings entertainment and fun into the mall and it is great for family time. Glow Golf is a blast -- I love going with my family and competing in a mini golf game! It is unreasonable to expect stores in malls where the surrounding area simply cannot support those malls. I am happy Johnstown even has a mall with tenants. Support the boutiques and the major department stores if you can and the Johnstown Galleria represents both perfectly. read more

The Galleria mall is slowly dying out. It is very sad that not many stores are even in there anymore. A new store will go in like "Glitz" and then within three months, it closes down. There are some pretty good stores that have been in there awhile like Jcpenny, Bon ton, Sears, Boscovs, vitamin world, and the book store. Sometimes I go to the Malle just because there is no where else to hang out with friends. The main stores I shop in are Book-A-Million and vitamin world. The workers at both of those places are amazing though because they are always helpful and friendly. I think that more stores need to go into our mall and stay there for good not go in for a couple months and then leave. People don't seem to care about the mall as much as they did before. read more

It's a nice mall to go to when I'm in a bind for something quick. A lot if places don't stay opened because of the rent. I wish they would get more stores like the Logan Valley Mall because I would have no reason to travel. The kiosks they have in the mall are somewhat annoying. They took the fountain for some bouncy castle crap. Still a beautiful mall, but it's beginning to look runned down. I feel bad for the people who come on vacation here and stop. I'm not a Johnstown native, so you can take this review with a grain of salt. Having said that, shopping at this mall has never been a positive experience for me. It isn't that the people are mean - far from it, actually. But it seems to me that everyone I've seen there would just rather be anyplace else but where they are, even during the holidays. The mall has really gone down hill. It used to be such a good place to go to take your kids or to find a dress or whatever you needed. Now you have to go all over the place past empty and can't find what you want. Much better to go down the hill to the plaza where you can go to bed bath and beyond, Ross, TJ Maxx and a lot of other great places. The only thing good about the small is Boscov's. read more

They make it work for what it is. Johnstown is not a wealthy city, and you can't expect them to put in high end stores. Yeah, it would be neat if we had an H&M or Old Navy (not high end) but we don't. The food court is really all I'm disappointed in. I do believe the mall will come to life again in a few years. This mall is dying, it is in disrepair, many store have left, there is no maintenance upkeep , just to drive around the mall to find parking one needs 4 wheel drive, the grounds around the mall have been abandoned of all upkeep, trash is everywhere! It is heartbreaking! It use to be my favorite place to shop, when company would come in from out of town, we would go to the Galleria and spend most of the day shopping, having dinner, enjoying the day. Johnstown is really sinking to new lows, this mall is really starting to deteriorate in my personal opinion, its starting to look more and more like a dead mall every time I come here, stores are starting to close left and right, for example (CJ Banks, Wendy's, Strawberry,) have left just in the last few months. Only the basic chain retailers is all you'll really find here such as GameStop, Hollister, American Eagle, Shoe Depot ect. Theres nothing that cant be found within in a 50 mile radius except for one of the only Italian Ovens left, along with several mom and pop stores, and asian massage parlors. The food court is half empty and the interest is lacking in retailers whether it be the area, high rent, or the economy. Bottom line, if you want a high end mall shopping experience, go to Altoona or Greensburg, there is a huge difference. Or if you dont want to travel, go to the Richland Town Centre.
