My friend works there and I have dropped by a few times to support her, and local artisans and vendors who have their merchandise on display. On Sunday, I visited this Arts Market in the Junction. I was here a year ago and wanted to go in this store, but never got around to it. After meeting up with a couple of friends, I dropped by with one of my friends before she had to catch her bus. I liked a lot of items in this store. The plants by the window were cheerful. I like greeting cards. This place had so many creative, funny, punny ones. I also liked the lip balms, including root beer and wild grape. I spent the most time looking at old records. Strawberry Shortcake. Mousercise. Go West. Tom Jones. I loved looked at each one. I ended up getting two records: - Spoons - Cliff Richard and the Shadows The Spoons are my jam. Canadian. 80's. Awesome! My mom has always loved Cliff Richard. He had a backing band called the Shadows. Cliff Richard is still singing in his 80's. I found a pair of heart-shaped earrings that I liked. I had to get them. There was a woman who was chatting with two staffers for at least ten minutes. I heard her while I was looking at the record selection. I suspect that she's a regular customer. Both staffers were nice. One asked if the earrings were a gift. Not to anyone -- just me. They liked that answer. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. They asked me if I needed a bag. I declined, as I could easily walk with my items to my car across the street. I loved being here. I'm so glad that I finally checked it out. If you look down, you can see some sidewalk art. My experience with the owner, Diana, was very positive. I asked her about an availability of an item on her website and she went as far as digging through her back storage and asking her supplier. Although she couldn't find more inventory, I was impressed with the effort she put in to locate it. I would definitely shop here again.

I told Pat my story and asked if she had some ready-made frames with wiring (as it was a requirement for this exhibition). She pulled out a few frames and said she could do the matting etc. I asked how much before committing and when she said $82 for each, I was relieved and pleasantly surprised. Further, she would do the framing right there and then. It was a pleasure to watch Pat frame the drawings in front of me, taking sure care. The drawings looked so amazing. I was able to ship the drawings to the exhibition on time. I am so grateful.

Size-wise, this Homesense was not as impressive as the ones that I've been to at Bathurst/Centre (Thornhill) or even Vaughan Mills. It's on the smaller size, HOWEVER, the benefit is that it's waaay quieter than those other locations. Actually, it's probably even quieter than any Winners that I've been to! The location definitely has a part to play in that "been transported back in time" feeling. There's no sense of urgency or rush, just relaxation. I had a question about what was included in a package of bedding - it wasn't stated on the label - and the sales associate, who was doing something else at the time, actually went to another associate to find out for me. Who does that nowadays? If I were in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here 'cause I don't like shopping in crowded places.

The TJ Maxx line of stores have always fascinated me…read more The three brands - WInners, Homesense and Marshall's - have made their trade in being a glorified clearance store for many low and mid-range brands, and this location in Clarkson is no exception. I'd argue that it's the perfect fit for the Clarkson community, as it accurately sums the sleepy, docile nature of the community. I ended up coming here to kill a few hours and get in on some late Boxing Day shopping after the New Year, and was extremely surprised to find that half the store was on clearance. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that a good 40-50% of the goods on sale were either marked with tags or set up on "Clearance" endcaps, which was extremely amusing considering there was SO MUCH of it still on display. $2 packs of PUR gum, dirt-cheap Christmas and designer decorations, all sorts of weird food items for pennies on the dollar... makes the mind boggle with how much product is back there that they struggle to sell it all even with 80-90% discounts. One thing I'll definitely give the store credit for is that it's generally very quiet, the service is prompt, and you're generally bound to find something you want, whether it's a weird knick-knack or a book that interests you. In the end, we ended up buying a bunch of themed Christmas foods (including peppermint bark coffee liqueur and chocolate candy-cane shaped shortbread cookies), along with some odds and ends. I find I like visiting here every time in the area. Despite it's similar layout and product offerings as Winners (take out the men's/women's fashion and you have Homesense), the service and selection put it a cut above. Definitely a worthwhile anchor store in Clarkson Village Plaza.

Hideaway stands out from the pack of other antique stores in this area for a few reasons. First, it's huge and spacious. There's room to move and no risk of feeling cramped as with most of the other places on this stretch of queen. Second, the owner is friendly and helpful, but also leaves you to wander about and poke at things in your own time rather than trying to push assistance on you. Finally, the pieces here are outstanding and reasonably priced for what they are. There's definitely an amazing ceiling lamp priced at $1400, but most of the furniture is much more reasonable.
