The waiters are a bit slow, and they do not pay attention when you call them, but in general I had a good time. I had the bacon and chicken chiabatta, and I would have been very happy with it, if my bacon was crispy on its fat and it was a bit warmer. The chips served with it however, were really nice - makes a difference when almost everywhere in UK the chips are half fried... prices were more than ok happy to go back. Oh! I forgot to mention that it was packed during lunch time, and that made it a bit noisy, but bearable. It has very clean toilets, and they smell nice. The wine is lovely and there are real ales on tap. Through to the restaurant area, it is nicely decorated, warm and spacious with another fire. The service is attentive and friendly and the menu changes regularly and has lovely hearty food all at reasonable prices. I can particular recommend the burger - although the wedges are spicy! All in all, a lovely bar and restaurant, worth the drive out of town for. There is plenty of parking and it is kid friendly. I hope you like it as much as I do!

So we came here and had probably our favorite evening. The hotel itself on the outside is a lovely old building, and the lobby isn't much to look at, but when you walk into the bar everything changes. Comfortable, homey, roaring fireplace and cushy leather couches to your right - and to your left the hugest selection of whiskys on a beautiful old bar. The gentleman owner, whose name I didn't get, was a treat! He walked us through his collection, gave us the menu and talked us through some various whiskys. He also recommended a local shop to buy bottles at (which we did the next day) and was helpful in helping us determine what we might want to bring home. We each had dinner - husband had fish & chips, I had a goulash. Both meals were simple but very good. And we had several whiskies on the couch by the fire. Truly a lovely end to a day in the Highlands.

The patrons were all on the other side of middle-age, seemed to all know each other and were exchanging playful banter among themselves and with the bartender. There was a cozy, crackling fire - real wood, not gas, mind you, and just a general air of comfortable companionship there. I almost felt like I was intruding while quietly drinking my pint, but the occasional friendly smile from a regular kept there from being any sense that we were unwanted. It seems that the only food available is crisps and nuts, so don't go in looking for a meal, but if you're out that way on a cold, rainy night, you'd do well to stop in for a drink before you get back on your way.
