We signed up for a silversmithing class at 2 PM with what we expected to be a 2 hour maybe 3 at best, and we were there for 4.5 hours. Its really unfair that you pack in a full class and put 4-5 people per 1 silversmith. Not to mention our Silversmith had only 2 months experience and over-polished on of our rings which ruined its luster and look. These rings are OVER $150.00 to make and they should be FLAWLESS? The cost to make these is not discussed until you are in the class, and its at a minimum $75.00 to do. Not to mention every GEM is at a minimum another $30-75 to add to it. We left feeling very frustrated at a $330.00 bill on rings that were not to our standard, and had to be redone more than once during the experience. read more

My husband took me here for my birthday. I loved the amount of gems you could pick from. I felt like there were a lot of options and I liked that the price was on the back. No surprises. You know what everything is going to cost in the end. Staff are super friendly. As a introverted person I liked that you could keep the classes small and didn't really have to interact with people. As for my ring, I wear it EVERYWHERE. I NEVER take it off. It used to be a light blue color and has turned green. I have worn it in chlorine pools, cleaning my house with chemicals and I'm sure that is the reason the stone changed. But the metal has never rusted or changed colors. I can't believe there's not a review for this place yet! My friend and I took a class here last year for one of their workshops and it was a lot of fun. You can reserve a time block online, and I believe ours was scheduled from 11-2, each workshop is about 3 hours long. They start off the workshop by showing you the options of jewelry - necklaces, rings, bracelets, etc. We both decided to make rings. You then select what time of gemstone you'd like to make for your jewelry and they have a ton of options and great advice on selecting your stone. They have a ton of different stones and colors. It was hard to narrow it down! Then you begin the jewelry making process. There's someone on their staff that walks you through the whole process and helps you make your jewelry. This takes quite some time to do, but it's a lot of fun. Our silversmith did a lot of the hands on stuff for us, but we got to watch the process and learn along the way. You get to learn how to use torches and polish your stone, and design it with different things along the way. It was really cool to see a ring making process from start to finish and learn about everything that goes into making jewelry by hand. I wish that we had been able to do more of the process ourselves during our session, but it was still a great experience and I would go back. It's a great date night idea or activity to do with the girls or older kiddos. All in all, a great, fun, and unique experience that I had never done before! read more

The service was good! Chris was awesome and a pleasure to work with. HOWEVER...in the process of "making" your own piece of jewelry your participation is minimal. I would say 10% at best. The material used is VERY cheap and the final product is something you would spend less than $20 on at a store that sells bulk jewelry. Our final bill was over $343 + a $50 tip for 3 very unimpressive pieces of jewelry. The process was about 2.5 hours. Value was terrible for involvement and time spent. Had a lot of fun here. The wife is a big rock hound, so I thought this would be a unique Christmas present/date night. I was not wrong, she loved it. It's pretty basic, though, there isn't a big or unique selection of stones to chose from, but the appeal is in making your own professional looking jewelry. I had no idea what to expect. We got our own consultant/trainer/whatever that worked with just the two of us all session. There was significant hands on time for us, but I felt like it could have been even more. She did much of the more difficult or dangerous parts herself while we just watched. I understand the liability, or wasted time and materials by letting any butterfingered customer do some of those steps, but just a little bit more would have been nice. Both of our pieces came out great, though, and my wife wears them all the time. read more

It was fun I guess but way overpriced, not to mention they're getting sued for health violations (not making employees wear masks or glasses to prevent inhaling silver) you spend 3 hours and 300-500 dollars and only get to do at the most %30 of the process. There's lots of other options besides the gem studio if you want to do an activity like this. I will say it's been over a year and my ring had a held up but that's not the case for everyone. read more

What a fun night with girlfriends! I reserved a spot for 5 of us online. There was a $5.00 deposit per person when reserving. You have to reserve a few weeks out as the classes fill up. The staff is so much fun and the options are awesome. I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one Gem. It took several hours but the time went by super fast. The Salt lake store is located in City Creek center so you can easily grab dinner before you go. Nice selection of Gems to choose from. I made my ring to fit my ring finger but could fit other fingers if I wanted to. Only thing I noticed is that my stone is set a little crooked but it's only noticeable if I wear it on any other finger than my ring finger. In the group of 5 of us the rings ranged from $95 up to $125. I have one friend who wouldn't attend at the time as their options are all silver and she only wears gold. It would be fun if they could add gold band options. Overall a great and fun learning experience. read more

Dont ever go. you will spend 100's of dollars we had 4 necklaces at 200.00 each. the chain is cheap, the charms are even cheaper. you can buy all the exact charms I had on necklaces for Pennie's. it's so cheap. I can't believe I walked out of the store. Do not go here. I brought my own stone, which they charge an excessive $15 setting. Have no idea why because you make the setting and supposed to place the stone into. I get the setting made, and was placing the stone into it. The trainer took it and looked at the stone and setting, and then tried to fit the stone in by grabbing a pair of pliers and forcing it into the setting. I started to say no, but In the process, the trainer broke the stone into four pieces. Completely unnecessary! Oh they said they would glue it back together, but they lost a piece. It now rendered the setting and stone both useless. All they said was sorry, and didn't charge the stone setting fee. This was a big waste of time and money! read more

caden gets 10/5 stars he was so great and patient and friendly and did such a great job helping us with ideas! caden made it such a great experience for us!! the only reason i did 4/5 stars is just because there really aren't any options cheaper than $90. most common price seems to be about $130+ so when we go we usually can only have one person make jewelry. it's definitely not a date night for anyone who doesn't make a great salary. but it's such a fun date night! fun for the whole family too! read more
