I have been taking my jewelry to Joe, the owner of McKay diamonds, when he was the owner of the White House in Taylorsville, Utah. I trust the work he does with my most valuable jewelry. I have never had someone take such care to repair it so meticulously and perfectly as Joe. I live in st. George Utah and there are many good jewelers here, but they are only good. Joe at McKay Diamonds on Regent Street in Salt Lake is the only place I will go to buy or repair my jewelry. He is very honest, he won't fix something that doesn't need repair, he charges the most fair prices even after all these years and he is truly gifted at his work. It is a family business (I can't remember the family name) but his wife is equally astute at what she does for the Company as is Joe. It is friendly and welcoming. Just a very pleasant experience. He fixes the smallest pieces to the most elegant and expensive pieces. Parking on regent street looks tricky but you can park directly in front of the store on the little bricks. If those spaces are occupied, there is a parking garage almost next door and they will validate. As you can tell I highly recommend this store. read more

One battery replacement was only $15 And the other had a battery leak and the cleaned, added a new gasket, and new battery for only $75 I was very satisfied and definitely recommend this place. Because my hands have a tendency to swell, I really needed to get my wedding rings resized. I was concerned about who to take my rings to. I had a ring that needed to be resized from a 8.5 to a 9.5 and they resized it perfectly on the spot in 1 minute fit $30. They also said I was able to come back in within 30 days to adjust it for free if it still felt too tight. They were really nice, very quick, and affordable. I highly recommend. UPDATE 9/1/2019 I recently stopped in to size my ring up to a 10 from a 9.5 and was surprised to be told it was $60 this time. Same adjustment, double the price. Seems a bit odd. read more

My fiancé and I spent a whole day going to several jewelry stores in Salt Lake City. We selected McKay Diamonds because their reviews were fantastic. Now we know why! Shortly after arriving Joe the jeweler came out and was very personable, knowledgeable and direct. He helped us design the perfect ring and told us that he personally is the jeweler that would be building this ring for us. He gave us a quote on the spot. All the other stores took at least a week to get with their ring builders and get back to us with a quote. By then Joe had built our ring and it was guaranteed; if we didn't like the ring, he would build one we did like! We were not obligated to purchase the ring unless we liked it! All of this was with no money down, just simply a phone number! When we returned to see the engagement ring it was beautiful and he had upgraded the diamond but did not charge us for it. He stuck with the quote and gave us a certificate showing the ring was worth more than we paid for it! Unbelievable customer service here. We returned to have the ring resized a week later and he shortened a necklace that was purchased elsewhere for free. All this in about 15 minutes while we waited. All at no charge. Walked in to see about cleaning and tightening the prongs on my wedding ring. The shop owner was extremely thorough and detailed when he looked it over. Ended up finding a diamond that had gone crooked and could have fallen out at any time. He made sure to show me through the magnifying glass and explain everything. I took a ring to Shane Co to see if they could resize it for me. They said they couldn't because the diamonds were pressure set, and that requires a custom jeweler. I found McKay on Yelp and took it in to ask. He told me the same thing, the pressure set diamonds are very tricky to resize, especially going down from a 7 to a 5. After about ten minutes reviewing the options, he decided it was worth a try to see if it could be done. It took about fifteen minutes for him to cut it, size it, and reset a couple diamonds that did pop out. I had the plating redone as well. In under an hour he had the ring looking like a million bucks. Incredibly talented, honest and personal service. I wish I could give more than five stars. read more

Unlike other places that will charge for inspection if you did not buy the ring there, McKay didn't charge me a cent. I lost my ring couple days ago at a parking lot. Luckily a lady found it and she said it might got runover couple times. Eventually, I needed an inspect on the ring to check if it was damaged or not. My fiancé found McKay on Yelp and it was the only one has good review. McKay is a pretty narrow store. I almost missed it and went to the wrong store. The store salesman greeted me even though he was helping couple customers. While the customers was looking through the booklet, the salesman came over and asked how can he help me. I told him my story and it needs an inspection. He took the ring and took a look at it under the scope. He replied, "don't worry. Everything is fine. Not even a scratch on the metal." He didn't charge me anything, I thank him, and I left. Maybe I got lucky because he was still busy with other customers. Well, they still have my business if I need inspection or jewelry cleaning. I went to McKay to repair a broken link on an antique necklace, that has a lot of sentimental value. I dropped off the necklace Monday night, and was told I could pick it up Wednesday morning. I went there this morning - and the necklace was beautiful! The cos to repair it was inexpensive, and the owner cleaned it free of charge as well. While I was there, I also decided to have my engagement and wedding ring replated as well. The cost was very reasonable, and below what you would expect to pay at other jewelers.
