We had a reservation to celebrate our anniversary. Had to cancel same day of reservation because my husband became sick the night before. Geneva Inn refused to refund our deposit because we did not cancel 72 hours prior. Terrible policy. How could we possibly anticipate my husband becoming sick ? This is our second time here over the years. I doubt we will be back. So many things wrong here. 1) Our room for one night (lake view) was $396 with taxes and fees. For that price this better be a 4 star hotel - it isn't. 2) They put a $300 hold on our card for "incidentals". $300!!!! 3) We were told and given a card that said it's "bug" season and to keep all doors closed. Didn't matter, we never opened ours and there were bugs everywhere 4) The TV was ridiculously small, had a remote from 1980 the size of a brick, had no cable, and no app access to do anything with. Awful 5) The porch was dirty and parts of the molding were rotting away. Not like we went out due to the bug warning, but it was too filthy to contemplate sitting in. Very bare and boring. 6) The decor is all over the place. Black faucets for the sinks, chrome for the shower, satin nickel for doorknobs, and some ghastly gold rings for the ceiling lights from the 70s. Whomever did this must have used spare parts from somewhere else. No consistency at all. 7) The girl at the check in counter hated her job. Clearly evident. Even said the incidental hold was for if we destroy something. I'm 55 - what is this college? 8) Check in is a crazy 4pm. Checkout is 11am or $50/hour penalty. You're getting only 19 hours of time. 9) You don't so much as get a bottle of water in the room or a salt packet for the tub so bring your own. That $1 it would cost the hotel would be nice I'm sorry Geneva Inn - you're dated, old, and worthy of a 2 star hotel. Having a good view is not worth the cost here or your hidden fees. read more

Not a friendly experience dealing with front desk. Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Dated decor. The bathroom was nice.

My clients (domestic and international) will book here for a quiet lodging experience with a view. They always give good reports. At the time of this review (March 2025), I was just told the Grand View restaurant is closed for remodeling until May (low season). So if you are booking for an event off-season, keep that in mind for your experience. We look forward to it's opening because it's one of our favorite places to have guests visit us and entertain. Try to book a 2 night stay and there always only have one room they offer a waiting list but it's not to same room you would have to transfer to a other room and wait to checking at 3 pm very sad I had to check out at 11 and check back in at 3 with the outrageous price I should be a priority and the second room the furnace had aloud squeaky sound at initial start up every half hour didn't get no sleep last time. We had a wonderful time! We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. It was fantastic! We were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne which as awesome. The place was decorated beautifully for Christmas. We had a room on the second floor with a lake view. It was beautiful. The room was very spacious, the bathroom was huge with a beautiful walk in shower and the bed was very comfortable. Off the balcony was a beautiful view of Lake Geneva. The service and staff were awesome. The hotel is closed during the week for breakfast so we went down the street to Joni's Diner which also fantastic. This is a highly recommended stay. You could find a space where you could store bags when visitors come in early. You could have a General Manager who actually talks to a client when they ask to talk to the GM and are willing to wait if she is busy. First off, you should know, the bed photos in the pictures shown on Yelp are old. The beds are new since the remodel & are extremely high off the floor! Having stayed at the Geneva Inn before & looked forward to another stay. The rooms are updated & clean & if you can climb into a bed that is 3 feet high, you'll enjoy the hotel. Since I was aware that their beds are extremely high off the floor, making them very difficult for people with a handicap to get on the bed, when I booked our hotel this time, I asked if the hotel had lower beds & I was told by Kelsie, the rooms on the 1st floor are lower. I called two additional times to be sure our reservation was for a room on the 1st floor with lower beds. When we arrived at 2 PM, we were asked to wait until check-in at 3 pm, so we waited in the lobby until then. Upon entering our room at 3 PM, we were astounded to see the beds were just as high as the beds we had in previous stays! When I called the front desk & asked why we were given a room with high beds, I was told all the beds are like that, despite being told in 3 previous phone calls the beds on the 1st floor were lower! I even asked if they had a step we could use to get on the bed & I was told no, despite a photo here on Yelp showing a step next to one of their beds. There was no apology or suggestion from the hotel staff to help solve the problem. Since I've had both knees replaced & will face ankle surgery on both ankles, my only option was to sleep on a pullout couch with a thin mattress. I even had to make up the bed myself since no employee offered to do so for me. I eventually ended up sleeping on the room chair. Needless to say we checked out at 7:30 AM! read more

This is a very cute and upscale inn. We came for dinner at the Grandview restaurant, which has an excellent cocktail selection and a solid wine menu. The Aperol spritzer was perfect for the summer breeze. We also enjoyed a view of the stunning sunset over Lake Geneva. Our server was attentive, and the menu boasted a fairly eclectic selection of three kinds of main courses for fish. I would never have thought to pair New Zealand lamb tenderloin with Fabian's, but the combination was out of this world. A fabulous dinner experience all around. read more

Decent Room but otherwise really disappointing, especially for $400 a night. Rude front desk person. Really cheap shampoo, only two coffees, no food to buy in the morning except shrink wrapped muffins. Upon checkout, we were informed that there was an additional $135.00 dinner charged to our room, the only problem here is that we didn't have dinner at the Geneva Inn. Obviously a simple error, after informing the manager she continually replied we will "check it out" and email us a receipt, as the dinner signature was locked up at this time? No, "I'm sorry sir, I'm sure it was just an error of a dinner improperly charged to your room and we will correct the error and get back to you asap. Needs to do better. read more

FYI- i don't know why this posted now, but this was back in 2017!! We just arrived for our short honeymoon, and already a poor tone has been set. Online I requested early check in. (The site actually asked what time I planned to arrive.) Strike one- when I came in, the older man behind the counter immediately said No check ins until after 3, and then ignored me. I didn't even get a word in. Strike 2- we came back at 3. Specifically had asked if all rooms had the Large soaking tubs prior to coming here. I was told yes our room would. It doesn't. Strike 3- when my husband went down to ask, he was basically told we might as well go elsewhere. Not an ideal start to a weekend we have so looked forward too!!! We've been to Lake Geneva a million times.. always drove past this Inn talking we must stop by for lunch or dinner but it happened finally. My uncle and his family was visiting from Canada so we decided to have dinner . It was one of the best meals I've had. The place is very cool and ambience is nice. We wanted to sit on the patio but due to weather we were seated indoors. They have kids menus as well as we had two hungry and active toddlers in our group. The staff is efficient and polite. Our server was very gentle and hospitable., wish I remembered her name.We ordered individually. The food came out little late but the wait was worth it. So sorry I was not able to click pics of my food as my phone was dead. But I assure you the food is outrageously delicious and everything is fresh . Can't wait to go back soon. read more

The pictures shown on all the websites are definitely embelshed. Doesn't show the rotting wood around the place, or the desperate need for power washing all the bugs and spider webs. With the money they charge for a suite, there should be some updates. The view is beautiful and the rooms were clean, just old and nicked up, on the walls, cabinets. We did not a good meal in the Grandview. Not sure what the hoopla is supposed to be about. VERY VERY expensive for the hockey pucks crab cakes. read more

Stayed 2 nights at the end of July. A friend organized a surprise Birthday dinner at the Geneva Inn for his wife . Since it's a 2 + hour drive from Chicago we booked to stay the night. They require a minimum 2 night stay, so we had to spend over 600.00. I called the hotel directly and made the booking for a king room with balcony. did get a confirmation e-mail saying I was booked for a double room. I made the mistake of assuming double meant 2 people. Not two separate beds. When I went down to tell them they had made a mistake, all they said was they didn't have any other rooms. No attempt to apologize or offer a discount. When you go away for two nights with your husband you want a king bed. ROOM: Since the last time we stayed here, about 5 years ago, the whole hotel has been remodeled. Gone are the carpets, replaced with hardwood floors. Gone floral wallpaper and trim replaced with white walls and crisp white trim. Gone is all the magenta and hunter green replaced with elegant pale gray paint. It is now clean and crisp. It's a vast improvement. The bathrooms have been redone with Calcutta stone and are luxurious. The Two beds were very comfortable. Our room had a balcony but it faced over the parking lot with no view. Now the hotel is very sterile, while it is modern, it has lost what made it unique which was the victorian floral and artificial flowers. Our room had two paintings over the beds so when you were sitting in the beds all you saw was a huge white wall. The first night was the Birthday dinner and the server took fantastic care of our party of 10 in the side room. The food was very good. The next morning Sunday we went down and had a fabulous breakfast. A wonderful, friendly server. We each had The Geneva breakfast and we could have shared one. Two fried eggs, two large delicious sausages, two strips of bacon, six Hash Brown patties, and 4 slices of toast with butter, jam, and ketchup. perfectly cooked and piping hot. Since we were staying Sunday night we were looking forward to breakfast on Monday but when we got downstairs the doors were shut and the room was dark. Would you believe the hotel doesn't serve breakfast or lunch during the week. This would have been courteous to have been told at check-in My husband played golf on Sunday, so I planned to take a taxi into downtown Lake Geneva. The desk gave me a couple of numbers but they didn't answer so I was stranded for 5 hours. I just relaxed and read.. They seem to be going through some staffing issues because most of the staff were teenagers and new. They may have lost staff because of the last years pandemic. I really liked the location of The Geneva Inn. It is situated along Lake Geneva with breathtaking views of the lake, that is if you got a lakeside view room. Unfortunately, I was relegated to a non-lakeside view which was not renovated. When I walked into my room, I noticed that the bathroom was not cleaned as evidenced by lack of towels and toiletries. Gross. The in-house restaurant was amazing which will be a separate review. I ended up bothering the front desk for items that should already be in the room such as towels, toiletries, water, etc. They should renovate all the rooms. I felt mislead by the pictures that are posted online for a renovated room. The best part was the fact that there was a $15 credit each day for breakfast. The worst part was the service. Housekeeping did a poor job of cleaning my room throughout my stay. Maybe they thought because it wasn't a renovated room that they didn't need to clean thoroughly or attempt a turn down service. If I had to stay here again, you must get a Lakeside view room. read more

well 3 stars to be really nice... this doesnt happen very often when i book my hotel rooms, BUT it did this time, unfortunately! i went online genevainn.com and reserved A LUXURY ROOM bc the SUITE that i wanted wasnt available for those days, when i got there they gave me a LAKE FRONT ROOM witch is also handicap room, 105!! the prob is that ROOM 105 is not only ugly and old furnitures, licking water faucet, very noise, IT IS NOT A LUXURY ROOM!!!! manager wasnt there at the time, so next day i did complain and yes, she gave us a SUITE, ROOM 201, very very nice, thats what i want at first, and a free bottle of Champagne, didnt charge for the intimate package ($45), and we did enjoy the suite very much, it was clean and very nice! the dinner at the Gand Geneva Restaurant was very good, breakfast was just all right, so next time i hope i can give a 5 star review. read more

The building and location are very nice... but the customer service is pretty much terrible. Devin Malone in particular is incredibly arrogant and seems to view every customer interaction as an annoyance. He has a serious power complex. He doesn't know how to listen or how to work to solve a customers problem... he follows "rules" and "hotel policy" that lack all common sense and seems to just want to make sure you know that he's in charge. Serious Napoleon complex. Despite the lovely building and setting, I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND unless they realize they have a customer service problem and train / hire better people. read more

I've never really been huge on reviews but I do believe in giving credit where it's due and very rarely would I take the time out to post a negative review unless it's truly warranted. Unfortunately we had an unfavorable experience at Geneva Inn and I wouldn't give this place my business again. We were given a room on the first floor with a lake view (not a problem). The room seems to be near the kitchen of their restaurant but I could easily look past that. Upon entering the room, we noticed the carpet in the entire room was extremely damp. The room was very muggy and it didn't come with a stand-alone tub as advertised. My wife brought this to the attention of the front desk attendant and she was told that they recommend that guests call in before they arrive to verify the features in the room. I've never heard this before and would expect a room to come as advertised on your website when booking. She was told we could find another place to stay and they would completely understand. We drove down from Chicago for the weekend and were not interested in going on a hunt for a new place to stay - this response was unacceptable in my opinion. Moments later, a front desk attendant brought us a floor fan which she believed was pretty effective in drying the carpet. So basically, I'm supposed to run a loud fan to dry your floors after I've checked into my room (unacceptable). To make matters worse, the pillows on bed had a horrible stench. After requesting new pillows that had the same smell, I decided to cover the pillows with the robe in closet so I could get some sleep. Sure, things happen and maybe the hotel was at capacity, but when you're basically paying the same rates you would pay to stay at the Ritz, I think it's a very reasonable expectation that your room is up to par prior to your arrival. The only "highlight" of this stay was the lake view. Piece of advice, when a guest brings concerns to your attention, it's probably not a good idea to tell them they could go find another place to stay! Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

If your idea of a romantic getaway is filled with bugs, then this is the place for you! The plan was to drink wine on our balcony and then head to dinner. We opened the door to hundreds of box elder bugs that littered the balcony and came in the room. I went down to ask for a room on the other side of the Inn (water side) and offered to pay an up charge, and they (rudely) said nope as they then added someone would go look at the balcony and proceeded to show me a sign that says they have a bug problem, which they don't tell you before you book. I also don't need a lesson on nature or how it's part of the ecological system! I am an environmentalist and didn't need the condescending tone. They said the issue was on every balcony, but I know that was a lie as they had no issues by the front entrance or on the backside of the hotel as we sat out there. They did nothing to help and their customer service was awful. Trying to stare down your customer is never the way to go! I would NEVER stay here again and I recommend you avoid this place! There are too many wonderful options in Lake Geneva to deal with an awful place like this. The restaurant wasn't bad, and our waitress was delightful, but the hotel staff left me so annoyed, that I wouldn't go again, even for a meal. Check out the Baker if you're looking for an all around amazing experience (sadly no balconies). Don't say you weren't warned. I'm guessing the family who owns the Geneva Inn either has no clue or just doesn't care, but it doesn't matter because I will tell everyone to avoid this place!! read more

We generally stay at The Geneva Inn when we come to town. It's a lovely Inn that is convenient for us. It had a beautiful setting right on the lake. We've stayed here many times. My biggest issue, as I've put in past review is that their Internet is simply terrible. Knowing this, I didn't even bother to bring my iPad because I knew I'd need to switch to cellular. This trip, the Internet was worse then ever. I ran a speed test and got .35 Mb download and .01 Mb upload. Are you kidding me!?!? I don't know if the problem is Spectrum or the Inn's infrastructure, but it is unacceptable. The first morning I went down to get our coffee, and the front desk lady said she didn't make any since there were only a few rooms booked. I think she instantly realized how dumb that sounded so she said she would make a pot. We had trouble with the HVAC both nights. The first night it was too hot in the room. We had maintenance check it out. The second night was better, but the unit was loud all night. With an outside temperature of 30 degrees, I don't know why the AC is running all night! We like that the rooms have a refrigerator. We wish they would install a room safe and offer a suitcase stand. This trip, our room had two chairs which we liked better than the rooms with a single chair and a desk. My other observation, and I hate to mention it, is that they have the worst TP on earth! This stuff must be incredibly cheap! I know 2020 is a tough year, but TP isn't the place to cut costs! It would remiss not to mention that the staff is very good. Everyone is super friendly! Not sure if we will book here next time. I would like to support this place but it may be time to try something else. read more

So interesting to read through some of these reviews (unfortunately AFTER) I visited the Geneva Inn. I have been a semi-frequent visitor to the Abbey Resort (about 10-15 min away) and wanted to check out the Geneva Inn this past weekend. While the infrastructure and location are lovely, the customer service is NOT GOOD. I saw two other notes specifically about Devon at the front desk (again, unfortnuately after my visit)... but wow. This kid is arrogant and not at all focused on providing his guests an excellent experience. I DO NOT RECOMMEND - the Abbey Resort is a better choice and a little cheaper to boot read more

Beautiful view of lake. The linens were clean and room was too. Front desk was accommodating. We purchased the Luxury Lake view which was over 400/night. We expected a WOW factor. Pretty disappointed. Beds are really high off floor and firm. No amenities whatsoever. They don't let anyone check in ahead of 3. Apparently there is a very small gym in the basement, who knew. Since they have a restaurant on site why not have a continental breakfast or at least have breakfast option there rather than having to drive to town and find a parking spot and pay for it. There is a little area where you could purchase a breakfast which looked like frozen food that is put in a toaster oven and charged for more than a whole box from a store. When I saw it was waterfront I was excited, well, waterfront is a small marina and no place to go in. I guess I expected something different. There was really NOTHING fancy about this place. Water was so soft that I didn't know if I rinsed the soap off my body. I was out on the balcony and housekeeping was cleaning the balcony of another room and was "f"in this and "f"in that. We have been in suites before for hundreds less and were the same quality. Will not be returning. I wish I would have read the low reviews before booking but I figured for the cost it would be awesome, my bad. I think they need to step it up a notch for what they charge. read more

Everything about this small, boutique hotel is superb!! The interior design and furnishings create a very intimate feeling, from the open three story lobby, to the suites, and even the resturaunt. We stayed in a King Lake View Suite, which was extremely clean and nicely furnished. It has a large walk out balcony overlooking Geneva Lake. The on-site resturaunt is also excellent. It has a warm, intimate feel, the menu is limited, but everything we ordered was nicely presented and tasted wonderful. The service in all areas of the hotel was excellent!! Very friendly, professional, and very welcoming. This is truly a great hotel for a romantic getaway! I highly recommend this hotel!! read more

Arranged for a memorial brunch after my funeral husband's service. Had made plans for about 30 people, 40 arrived. The manager in charge never sent me a menu, had to search and reach out to her, I guess business was not important to her. They were not ready for us when we arrived at the time reserved. Special table for pictures not arranged. Took 3 hours to be served food, many had to leave before eating. The servers were gracious and apologetic, the manager NEVER came to us or made contact. This was for a gathering that generated over $1000, for lunch! A Huge embarrassment for me and many business people invited from Lake Geneva. My husband and I ate there, sailed in to stay in their B & B over the 30 years of the Geneva Inn. He would have been as disappointed as everyone there with the attention and care from the management staff of the Geneva Inn. read more

Not at all accommodating! We checked in at 2:30 and she said we can't check in until 3:00. Nowhere to hang out since it was raining. We left to get a bite to eat. They were going to call when our room was ready. Becomes 5:00 and still no call. We go and get into our room; frustrating how much time we wasted waiting! They have NO breakfast service at all; nothing! Beautiful full dining room for dinner that opens at 5:00pm I needed to print the prescription my doctor emailed me. The front desk manager (older, grey hair) said, "our printer is not for public use". I explained it was a medical situation and she said, "I'm sorry"! I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was for only one night. We had a nice, recently remodeled room that was bright and airy. New floors really made a difference. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was OK, but a working fan would have made it great. The other interiors across the hotel are very nice. The hotel is 2.2 miles from downtown. A quick car ride, or we walked it for one trip. You have a great view of the lake here but it is much quieter than the downtown locations. We did not get a lakeside room. I didn't think it was worth the extra cost because our intent was to be outside looking at it and enjoying it for the bulk of the day. Service at front desk was OK. Housekeeping was a little aggressive in that they knocked right at 8:00am and attempted to open the door before I could realize someone was opening it. read more

Let me put this review in context but saying that not having grown up in Chicago, I don't get the whole lake thing. In New York, we don't have a lake, or beach or mountains so when we leave town it's to go somewhere we don't have at home. We do have a spectacular lakefront right here in Chicago, which is truly a great City, so I don't get why people want to drive for hours to frolic on the Michigan side of the same lake or drive up to tiny lake [Geneva] to navigate their boats through heavy traffic of drunken weekends skippers piloting their boats around the lake and hack through Lakeside traffic to eat at restaurants not comparable to what Chicago offers. Seems like a lot of driving and schlepping around for I don't know what...! So, against that backdrop I can say that I found the Geneva Inn absolutely charming to the point that for a brief moment in actually found myself saying, "maybe it wouldn't be so bad to come up and stay here for a few days" but fortunately the moment passed quickly. Nevertheless, the Friendly, hospitable staff, spotlessly clean, Charming Lakeview rooms with porches and beautiful lake views were very pleasant and enjoyable. The restaurant has surprisingly interesting menu choices and quite tasty and delicious food. The Brussels sprouts, halibut, braised short rib panini,, Truffle omelette, house burger and Halibut were noticeably good as was the dining room service. The 32 oz long bone rib eye is both impressive looking and I'm told very well prepared. Their wine selection is very well stocked with nice wines at fair prices. Strong drinks at the bar. If I ever buy into the whole "drive to another lake thing" the Geneva Inn well certainly be on my list of places to visit again. read more
