I am extremely disappointed in our treatment, the lack of professionalism and the constant dismissive behavior that we were rendered on Saturday May 2, 2026. An experience that was supposed to be memorable, ruined by an employee who was more concerned with upselling a used tux than helping my son find something for his first prom. The lady that was there was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately we were helped by an older man who had locks and glasses. Never did extend his name. (Edit looking at other reviews his name may be Dew or Drew) When we first got there it was super busy. This is understandable considering the size of the store and only two employees on the floor. My family and I patiently waited for 15 minutes to let the man know why we were they, in which he says we are late prom people and we should have gotten a look together weeks in advance and that the rental requires 30 days in advance and they would not be able to receive it. We were told we would have to find something in the store , he points to a rack against the wall. I was under the impression that these were rental tux's. He never took time to explain any of it. After being there for another 45 minutes of waiting to get help because he kept saying he would be with us but then taking people who came in after us, we finally got to the point where he talked to me and told my son to try on the tux we found. It was perfect. Looking at it, it didn't need anything done. Mind you I'm thinking this is a rental because there is not a price on it, the size tags are ripped off and you can visually look and see it's been worn, not to mention the bow tie in the pocket. When my son comes out of the dressing room, he ignores my kid and has small talk with a lady who came in with her kid. When he decides he is finished with the conversation, he looks at my son, and says ohhh you found something. It's $450. I said this is not a new suit and where do you see $450 because there are no tags on this and the size patch was cut out, this tux is worn. I said I thought this was a rental? He then says well the rentals are basic, I can go get you a catalog and walks off again. I am highly upset and I wanted his first experience to be special. It was not. Trying to support a black owned business and got treated like a peasant in the process. The funny thing is, if he knew who I was and what I did for a living, I guarantee he would not have done all of that. Treat people right! You never know who could be a blessing to you. I really do hope the owner reaches out to me. I would love to have a conversation. I have attached pics of the "basic tux" we wanted and the timeframe on the website that we would have indeed gotten the tux on time. Sadly, I cannot recommend this business. We were excited to support a Black-owned establishment, but unfortunately, their commitment to genuine customer service is lacking. While they do have some amazing employees who clearly care and do great work, the leadership and ownership do not seem to share the same dedication to customer satisfaction. Their selection of tuxedos and suits is extensive, which is a definite plus. However, if you plan to rent a tuxedo, be prepared to pay around $250, plus a $160 deposit, with a requirement to return the rental the very next day. For that $250, you receive only a jacket and slacks--no shirt, shoes, tie, vest, or pocket square which makes the value questionable. At that price point, I strongly recommend investing in your own tuxedo or renting elsewhere. Many other places offer complete tuxedo packages (including all accessories) for under $200, with a more reasonable 2-3 day return window and a stronger commitment to valuing your time and money. #SadButTrue read more

My son was a best man for a wedding on 10/10/25. Tux rental placed on July 12,2025. Rental was $429.30 , without shirt or shoes! When the store couldn't guarantee when the tuxedos would be available the WEEK of the wedding... groom cancelled the order on 9/20/25. The owner would only authorize 1-2 refunds at a time. Not honoring their own rental agreement! Almost 1 month later, after numerous phone calls & an in person visit by the groom's mother yesterday, my son was refunded!! Ridiculous- I think the owner bought the tuxedos for $429 & then planned to rent them out, then when order was cancelled due to lack of their professionalism, they dragged their feet issuing refunds, probably waiting for more business!!! What's even worse ... is that the owner lied about it all , saying he thought the groomsmen were refunded & threw his store clerk under the bus. KEEP YOUR MONEY & AVOID FRUSTRATION!! There is a significant flaw in how they obtain 4+ Star reviews. If you're coming here please wait until you get your product before giving them a review on how well they took your order. Ill explain why. This was my 2nd time coming here for a suit and my second purchase. This time it was the same thing, "if you like how we did please give us a 5 Star review." But I would never do this no matter where I was. It's like reviewing a restaurant after placing your order because the server was nice. I ordered a suit and the process seemed smooth. I waited patiently (around 10 days) for my order and decided to call to check in hopes of finding out when my order would arrive. This is when the issues started. I was told over the phone that my order was cancelled because the gentlemen who placed my order shouldn't have made the order because the measurements he submitted are not in range for the jackets. Now wouldn't you think this would be something you'd call the customer about immediately? Not in this case. I only knew because I called. I was also told the owner had already made a choice of a possible replacement suit that he wished to share with me. AGAIN no one called to tell me anything, but decisions were being made. I was also informed that the gentleman who did this was in training. In training BUT ALONE? There were details I asked about the try on jacket that the young lady refused to check, such as the size of the jacket I tried on to help- me make my decision. The jacket I tried on was the exact jacket I ordered but she assured me there was no way for her to know what I tried on because she wasn't there despite me telling her this information. Again she reiterated someone would call me. So, I waited for a call and never got one and decided to go up there and as I was walking in the door and older woman happened to be calling me. She explained that the issue wasn't that the suit jacket couldn't be purchased BUT there was supposed to be a special order submitted. She also told me the special order would be submitted and it should be back before my event date, which was one week away. I expressed my concerns as the suit would certainly need to be tailored. It was presented to me that they had a partnership with a tailor to address these types of issues and there would be no additional cost for a quick turnaround job. FINALLY, I went back to get the suit I ordered. I walk in to get my suit and guess who's there? The SAME guy alone who messed up my order before. I grabbed my things that he placed in a travel bag, but I needed to make sure everything was ok. For some reason I felt the need to take pictures of the pants and the tag for the pants. I look at the pants and you guessed THE WRONG PANTS. I went back and he handed me the "correct" pants and I walked out. I ran over to the tailor she starts working on the jacket and when I go to put on the pants, I couldn't even get them up my thighs. The tailor says, "oh no no no too small". I run back to the store and let the guy know and he gives me a similar pair, but they weren't exact because the tag SKU was different, but at this point I had no choice since I left for the airports in 3 hours. I got the pants measured and the tailor tells me there is an extra fee for same day.. I was shocked to hear she has No arrangement with that company for special request. Do not order a custom suit from here!! We were given a 4-6 week time frame for a custom wedding tux and now our wedding is in one week and the tux is nowhere to be found. We called countless times for answers and were given the run around. You can't speak to an owner and all they can do is send emails to the manufacturer overseas. We drove from NJ to MD to specifically get this suit made. When we first asked for an update we were told that the suit was in transit and it was delayed at a port in China. After calling daily after that, we were told the suit was never made because it "slipped thru the cracks" and they blamed prom season. I was then told they would rush manufacture a suit and I would receive it 4 days before my wedding. Again after calling daily, they were never able to provide tracking leaving my future husband with no other choice but to rent a standard tux elsewhere. We had to change the entire aesthetic of our wedding because of their poor customer service and management. There was no empathy to our situation and we were repeatedly lied to about the suit. A wedding is a once in a lifetime experience and The Gentlemen's Closet ruined ours. read more

I honestly didn't want to come here because my family member already had a bad experience. But I decided to go because I thought that it could have been an honest mistake. But boyyyyy was I wrong. I placed my order on August 3rd I was told it will be back in 4 weeks (by 9/5/2024), something told me to call maybe 8/23 I called & was told they would call me back, after waiting a day, Ms. Dee called & said she didn't see my order give her sometime to see what's going on. I got a call last week 8/31 saying the order was never placed. She apologized but I'm still frustrated. She said she was going to see what she can do. She went to another location and got a whole another used Dusty tux and it was no where near what we ordered. Again we are frustrated, she then point out a tux that's in the shop and that everyone had tried on. She offer that tux and say she will take care of the alteration. Mind you we paid for the 3 piece tux brand new, why would I want a used tux that's been on display. Only to find out the tux came from Amazon, and they attached a different tag on the tux to make it seem like it' was their tux and let alone it don't even come with a vest that we already paid for. Yall please listen, no matter how sweet they sound and friendly they are, it's all fake and phony. Don't fall for it please save your time and money. Things started out nice but it spiraled into a disaster for my Husband after awhile. We first went to check out the the store for his suit and the groomsmen suit. Things seemed fine at the time which was probably 8 months before we needed to start ordering suits. My husband loves dressing up and planned on buying a lot of his suits from this store. The day comes and my husband goes to order his suit. He's worried because he has a very small waist and he didn't want his jacket being too big. While he's getting fitted for his suit he's told the groomsmen suits would cost around $150. He has 9 groomsmen so the package price was in effect. He orders his suit and shoes and was told a free bow tie would be included. A few days later one of his groomsmen go to order their suit and tell us it cost $250.. wrong. We told him to go get his money back. We call and speak with the person who charged $250. They stated the suit was of a certain collection and $250 was correct. It was written down in the book that their suits were $150. My husband and I tried adding up the difference but it never made sense. Fast forward to my husband getting his suit, it's too small. He said the size they ordered was not the size he agreed on and I had a feeling they again allowed their judgement to over power the customers wishes and ordered what they thought was best. My husband couldn't sit or lift his arms in the suit they ordered. The shoes he ordered was out of stock. So they put in an order for a size up and it gets shipped to Houston because oh yeah we didnt live in DC anymore. So making the trips was no longer a thing after the second mess up. My husband gets his suit back and it's almost three sizes too big even though it's supposed to be just a size up. We take it to a tailor and pay $450 for them to take the suit apart and put it back together to fit my husband. Shoes finally come but no bow tie. Fast forward to wedding day...... the groomsmen have different suits. Some have U shaped vest while the others have V shaped vests. Smh. We ordered the U shaped vests for everyone including the kids who had V shaped vests. The overall hassle it took to get things ordered and for things to still be wrong was disappointing. My husband was very upset with how things turned out. Luckily our wedding made up for the stress we endured. read more

This store is amazing. The selection is something you haven't seen in the DMV. I bought my hubby a pair of shoes and he loved it! So many options I stayed in the store trying to decide. What a wonderful place. The owner Franklin took care of me with the most professional manner and grace. He knew I was in a rush to go to a wedding and needed a fix for a wardrobe malfunction.
