I went out of my way (40 minute to drive) to have a dress tailored at Mode Tailoring because of the strong reviews. I also vaguely remember classmates using the shop for tailoring during my time at the nearby University of Maryland. Mr. Kim, the original tailor, was able to tailor my gown on what I believe was his last week before retiring. The service was efficient from the time I walked in the door to departure. I waited a few minutes for another customer to be fitted and for a third customer to make a quick pickup. The shop is small but there is a small seating area and there are two enclosed fitting rooms. My dress was pinned with relative ease to my liking and I chose to pay the balance of the service up front. The dress was ready on time and I have no complaints. I would recommend Mode Custom Tailor under the assumption that the new ownership will continue Mr. Kim's legacy and quality of work. read more

Because of COVID, he is only allowing one or at most two customers inside at a time, so there can be a wait to get it, particularly just before closing. He did a great job for me shortening the sleeves on suit jackets, hemming pants, and also taking in one pair of pants that had gotten to be too big. Very reasonably priced also. Mr Kim is the best tailor in the area and with his 30 plus years of experience he continues to tailor all of my clothes in an orderly fashion. He meets deadlines and provides conversation during the tailoring consultation which lets me know that beyond a business he provides an experience. Mr. Kim, the proprietor, installed a new lining in my old wool military coat; he turned it into a beautiful and unique coat I can wear with a suit or tuxedo as well as jeans. I went to the Jo-Ann Fabric store in the same mall as Mr. Kim's store and selected a brilliant blue satin for the lining (to contrast with the coat's dark navy blue wool). I then worked with Mr. Kim to design into the lining 4 pockets, which he sized and placed exactly as I wanted - I now have ample room to securely hold my gloves and scarf, as well as a cell phone and other items. I am very pleased with Mr. Kim's work, and I look forward to taking other projects to him in the future. read more

Mr Kim and his tailor business is 5 star, shout from the roof tops, face book official wonderfully amazing. I was a little put off by the fact that it is a huge mess and also where it is located. PG plaza isn't know for the best things but Mr Kim!!! What a life saver. I brought him in 2 pair of pants that were way to long and the legs were a bit to wide on a Monday afternoon. I brought the shoes I planned to wear with them and tried the pants on in one of the 2 small dressing rooms he has. Mr Kim helped me on to the platform and quickly pinned my pants to a perfect length and width only after ensuring that I was happy with them. I asked if they would we ready on Friday afternoon and was ensured they would be. He required 50% deposit, but I just payed in full, $27. Picked up my pants on Friday and they were perfect. Let's see...how did I find this place? I think I used Google or something. I kept reading all these reviews for a great tailor in Alexandria, VA but I needed something a little closer to home. People wrote nothing but wonderful things about this tailor at Mode. Upon my first visit, I see why. When you meet this man he has a warm smile and friendly disposition. Its only him running this store and he does a great job of juggling his customers with his work. He is very humble and appreciative for your business. When I walked in, he was assisting another gentleman but he stopped and immediately acknowledged me. He told me that he would be right with me. I dropped off a dress, jeans and some slacks. All of which were stitched exceptionally when I returned to pick them up. My total was $50 which I assume is decent for this area. Ive paid $20 (at a different shop in MD) for alterations on one pair of pants. Granted it only costs $10 for the same alterations in Atlanta but oh well im not there! lol I definitely think that Mode Custom Tailoring Shop is worth it! I've been visiting Mr. Kim at Mode Custom Tailor for over a decade. He has altered bridesmaid dresses, corporate suits, cocktail dresses, and more. I appreciate his honesty, he will let you know if something isn't worth tailoring or if the tailoring may ruin the item. He also listens and will do little tweaks to get you the look you desire. He has altered several expensive suits for my husband as well and we have always been pleased with the service, the quality of work, and attention to detail. His prices are extremely reasonable and he's always such a pleasure to work with. He had initially quoted me $109, but when I told him that it was too much for the suit (which cost less than $200), he said that a the suit could do without a couple of alterations, which brought the price down to $74. Lesson - Don't judge by appearances. So, I know what you're thinking: Beltway Plaza and the shop is tucked away in the corner on the same side as the Naughty Boutique. (You know what I mean, don't lie. OK, also the Target side.) I've never had clothing altered and now I think I've been spoiled. I walked in with a skirt that was a few sizes too large. After maybe ... five minutes Mr. Kim had pinned it and made sure that the design (a huge flower on front and back) was centered properly. (As someone who has been trying to teach herself to sew for years, I was perhaps a leetle jealous.) I left him the skirt and a small deposit. I came back one week later and you can not tell the skirt had been altered. It looks great, fits great, and was not at all expensive to have done. read more

Great prices!! He is cheaper about $10-15 per jacket suit, I've been to tailors all over the DMV area from Springfield, VA to MD areas, this guy is my favorite and now the only tailor is go to! Quick service, great quality, and GREAT prices. Highly recommended! Kevin is my main tailor and I am happy to spend over thousands of $ with him! He is very honest and very accommodating; he does his best to help you even when he is extremely busy (hint: you have to call him multiple times for him to have time to answer the phone!). Mr. Kim is great. He is very friendly and offers excellent customer service. My brother and I have been to many tailors, and to get Mr. Kim's service and quality we would be paying much more in D.C. In addition to that, he is cheaper and we bring quite a bit of our clothes to him for alterations. (sometimes he can get really busy for events such as prom so I generally come in on his down hours by talking to him or walking around the mall and coming back after the line shortens which is very convenient). Awesome job! I took in a suit and a pair of jeans to be tailored. The suit jacket needed the most work as both seams in back had to be taken in all the way down- that was $32. The suit pants needed to be taken in at the waist and cuffed- those were $12. And the jeans were $20 to be taken in at the waist but Mr. Kim explained it was expensive because they have a special double seam- they're horseback riding jeans that I bought out west. So it was a little more expensive than I would have preferred but the items were well worth it and he did a perfect job. I was in no rush so he had them done in a week. I paid half up front. Mr. Kim is the most soft spoken person you will ever meet but he's super friendly. I'm definitely going back to get an un-returnable dress fitted right and the pair of suit pants I had him work on probably needs adjustment on the leg width which I didn't ask him to fix up the first time. read more

I only needed a pair of pants hemmed, but he was extremely careful and attentive to the work to make sure it was done right. He had it done 2 days after I dropped it off, its possible he could have had it ready faster if I had needed it. Very friendly as well. One note though I tried calling the phone number a couple times and couldn't get through, either he was busy or the number needs to be updated. Thanks to other Yelpers I found this place after buying two suits that were in desperate need of tailoring. Upon my initial visit I was greeted and immediately serviced. Mr. Kim is a wizard when it comes to tailoring and he's not all business either as he was sure to make friendly customer service that made me feel like I was regular although it was my first visit. Mr. Kim took two suits of mine and made them look like I had them made by an Italian designer. As soon as he measured me I knew then and there that my results were going to be fantastic. 5 day turnaround period that upon pickup I only had to try on one suit to know that this guy was legit. It was then very easy for me to see why Greenbelt mall must stay open lol I was so impressed I brought another suit for tailoring the next day.
