This place was awful to the service to the food. Server was making snappy comments all night and if you know me I can be snappier but my friend stopped me. Service was slow and rude We ordered the dip. Came with chips when it was suppose to be pita. When we asked they said they ran out but why not inform us first ??? I did like the old pub feel vibe. Gord and I had supper this evening at the George Hamilton. It's in a 160-year-old building and according to one of its window's, it's Hamilton's oldest pub. It was fairly quiet when we got there. But within an hour, it was jammed with a waiting list because of the Garth Brooks concert across the street. Gord and I both ordered Fish & Chips. The fries and fish were good. We arrived 90 minutes before a local event. We were lucky to be seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. We gave our food orders in a timely matter.That's when it all went downhill. We were a table of 2. Beside us was a table of 4 that were seated within minutes of us. Beside them was a table of 8 that was seated after us. It was a LONG wait for food!! We didn't get our for until about 75 minutes after ordering. As I watched around the restaurant, I noticed that the table of 8 was served and getting ready to depart and we haven't even seen a glimpse of our food. The server was busy and at one point she apologized for the delay and said she would go check on the status of our meal. She never returned and updated us. This was the only time she checked in with us until our meals arrived. It was now 20 minutes before our event was to start and still no sign of food. I was at the point where I was going to cancel my order and settle up for the beer I purchased and just waiting for the server to return. When she finally returned, it was with our meals. We had 15 minutes to consume our food and get out of there. I ordered the double patty burger with fries. When it was served, the two patty's were cooked beyond anything I have ever seen. Overcooked and DRY, DRY, DRY!! The fries didn't have much to them either. It was pretty evident that they don't change the grease in their frier very often as the fries came out almost as dark as the burgers. I should have sent the entire meal back, but I was so friggin' hungry after waiting over an hour that I just had to eat. The table of 4 beside us were served minutes before us and they crammed what they could down before leaving with plates half consumed. They were going to the same event as us. All in all, we chose this restaurant because of the high rating from reviews. This was far from what we expected. What I could see was they were understaffed with servers, understaffed in the kitchen (I could only see 2 people working the kitchen) and their kitchen staff totally lacking the experience to keep up with the number orders, yet alone prepare decent quality meals. Having a direct view into the kitchen from my seat, I could often see main cook having pleasant conversations with the servers while meal tickets were more than likely piling up in the que. I would not return nor recommend this restaurant to anyone. The reviews are too complementary from my experience. Needless to say we were late arriving to our event. read more

If there was a no star review that is what I would give this place, ordered there burger and it was completely red! NOT COOKED at all. Took a hour to get a glass of water, service wasn't great had to ask multiple times for something you needed. Wouldn't recommend. Tim hortons across the street would have been better! read more

Fantastic pub experience. The waitress was super friendly and went the extra mile to accommodate my vegan wife. The cauliflower bites were fantastic and so were our burgers. The pub looks quite modest from outside but is nicely decorated inside and the entire staff is very easygoing and friendly. Will definitely go back. read more

We went here for dinner due to the fact it was close to our hotel. The service was excellent and you could tell it was under new management. They are trying to give the downtown a new look and name, and we think we should always support that. Although we are from out of town, we wanted to help this new owner get the respect he deserves. Our appetizer was wonderful and the drinks were nice pours for Canada LOL, but our dinners were not the best, sadly they were out of what we ordered but we understood since it was an off night and they wanted to have fresh. All and all it was a very enjoyable meal. There were regulars at the bar, and the whole vibe is nice.. We liked it better than the other well know place right down the street.... Check it out if you are in the area. The manager Bruce Cale was very nice chatting with us, and he had a genuine appreciation of preserving the downtown area of Hamilton, I wish him all the luck and we know it can be done... The old look and feel was a great atmosphere to eat and drink. The new look and feel is just simply better. We stumbled across this place once and it was good but now it's great! We order the Flatbread Pulled Pork appetizer and it was something different but real tasty. It had a strong bbq sauce taste but still amazing. To eat, one of us had a burger which was amazing. A chicken sandwich dripping in sauce in a crispy bun. Also with lettuce greens and tomatoes. A must have. I ordered the Chicken and Goat Cheese Wrap and within the first bite, your mouth explodes with the sudden and strong taste of Portuguese goat cheese. A very filling wrap, especially with a specialty fries and a appetizer before hand. Very well done wrap and neat. Not to many sauces causing the wrap to stay in place. The music at the bar/restaurant is all controlled by an iDJ. A subscription based music player the has no adds that anyone can add songs to the playlist for a super small fee. Just watch out for the bar regulars who don't have a good taste in music and love Steve Miller over Fleet Wood Mac or the classical sound of The Beatles. Service is horrible! Most of the bartenders/waitresses are annoyed to serve you, especially if you are with a larger group. I work nearby, and this bar had been a go-to for corporate events. Over the course of the last year service has dramatically declined with the hire of newer staff. The owners don't care to make their regular customers happy either. Food is OK--nothing special, drinks are fine.. but at the end of the day you can get bar food and drinks anywhere. Only go here if you like service with a scowl!!! read more

I went to this place quite a while ago and just had a beer. It was just o . K. BUT I recently went with a friend and is actually really good. We arrived just after an Event at Copps Coliseum . ( i don't care what yuppie hipsters call it now ! ). The place was busy but we found a table. The service was fast and the fish&chips were delicious . I'll return when it's a bit less noisy. Service is the difference. It is the difference that makes people come back, or leave disappointed. My last few visits to what used to be my favorite restaurant "The George Hamilton" have left me very disappointed. Previously the food and service was great. My last visit they forgot my take out order, and rushed it with a smaller than normal portion size. Tonight my party was seated and given a menu right away, but then forgotten about for 30 minutes. At which point the waitress came by and said she would be right with us. After another 15 minute wait of being ignored while watching new patrons come in and be served, my party decided to leave. I had been there before on much busier nights and had better service and always tip at least 25%. The recent lack of service really makes me question if I ever want to go back given there are so many other restaurants in the area read more

Went here with my dining group .Atmosphere- When I tried to get in from the King St doors I thought " oh no! What kind of place have I taken my group to? Once I walked around to the bay St entrance I was quite relieved. The inside was a very nice space. the waitress greeted us with a big warm smile. Food- Only 1 appetizer today- The shrimp in a Citrus sauce- - My friend liked it but was hoping for some zip ( heat) to it. I like milder dishes so I may try that one if I get back here again. Our mains today included- 1) Steak and Guinness pot pie- The top looked perfect and the report on the inside was favourable. 2) Soup and salad- Salads were nice but split pea and bacon soup was on the thin side and " Where is the bacon? " They could taste it but could not find a morsel. 3) Beef dip sandwich- Good overall. A lot of beef but one friend thought it was a little too salty for his tastes. 4) quinois salad with goat cheese- Very good and quite a large dish of it. 5) Teriyaki stir fry- Vegetables were cut too large- outsides were soggy and inside was raw. Sauce was good. 6) Chicken goat cheese wrap-ok. but dry. 7) Fish and chips- Fish was very nicely battered and not greasy at all. Side-French fries- These come in many flavours. Dill, garlic and ptarmigan, poutine, and pulled pork. We all liked the garlic and parm. I think next time I will try the dill. t sounds good. Service- the waitress was A!. she was excited about the menu and that in turn made us excited. I would go back again because of her enthusiasm. Recently ordered delivery from this restaurant, and although the food was hot and delivered quickly it was inedible. The Caesar dressing for the salad had gone rancid, I took one bit of the salad and had to toss it, I was incredibly disappointed. Then the fish had a spongy texture and overly fishy smell to it, which also made me want to wretch upon taking a bite of it. I was so incredibly disappointed with this meal, I have eaten here in the past, and had a decent meal. But after this debacle, I will not be returning. read more

We ordered the crab rolls to start with. They were good but nothing spectacular. My husband ordered the wings which were good, maybe a bit dry. He had the medium bbq and teriyaki sauce, both of which were good. If youre hungry order 2 lbs because you only get 8 wings with 1lb. I ordered thr fish and chips. The fish had very little or no seasoning in the breading. It was a very good sized portion but couldve stood some more flavor. There was so much breading that the part by the fish was soggy. Really had a good time there, nice atmosphere, very clean, very friendly staff. The live music was good. He was very engaging, and encouraging people to come up and sing or play with him. The only down side of the night was the Nachos. Overpriced and under in vale for the size. Might have been an off night or new staff trying to get the menu but I'd very much pass on them again. Food was wonderful and the staff even better!!! Relaxed atmosphere where people laugh and the waitresses indulge in a brief bit of karaoke! ! (It was a good song!) Will definately come again when in Hamilton. Very convenient to First Ontario center. read more
