This restaurant/cocktail lounge has become one of our regular stops, although embarrassingly enough, I always seem to order the same thing. Which just isn't like adventuresome li'l ol' me. But the slow-braised lamb shank is to die for... First of all, as the name might hint at, this restaurant has paid attention to ambience. Decor is contemporary-funky, with interesting art and a pleasing combination of industrial and organic elements. Plenty to look at and be pleased while conversation lapses. May I just mention the restrooms? There are five one-seaters -- and each one is decorated as one of the Chinese five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Simple to execute, but the attention to little details like that epitomizes the philosophy of the place. They often have live music, here, so it's worth checking the schedule. Service: lots to say, here. If it's at all possible, sit in David's section. He has been one of the most fantastic servers/restaurant liaisons I've ever met -- friendly, personable, efficient, present just when you want him, absent when you don't, full of helpful suggestions (which leads to ordering more than one might otherwise), and he obviously enjoys what he does. Other servers we've had have ranged from perfectly adequate but not memorable, to slightly off. David is a rare gem, and worth a star all by himself. Cocktails: they provide a list! Hurray! Each evening features a specialty cocktail. Unfortunately, most of the specialty cocktails are of the too-sweet girly variety, which I stopped liking while I was living in the Caribbean (the sweet-tooth down there is profound and widespread, and drinks were offensively sugary). Happily for me, they make a great martini -- and they offer several different varieties. I usually stick to my favorite, the Dirty, which they've gotten just right every time. After a certain hour, the menu becomes more limited (bar menu), but that doesn't mean one has to choose between greasy bar snacks, oh no! The flatbreads (personal-sized crisp pizzas) are delicious and creative, and thoroughly satisfying. I love that they have a number of choices combining sweet and savory elements... like fig and prosciutto, which is a favorite combination of mine. But if you get there before the full menu shuts down, don't miss the braised lamb shank. It melts in the mouth, savory and succulent and tender, with juicy, sweet and slightly toothy baby carrots and mini potatoes to sop up the exquisite au jus. One final note: PACIFIC salmon (not the endangered Atlantic) is on the menu. Kudos!

Love the atmosphere and decor( even the washrooms were themed ). The service was super friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 of the pizzas--both were great and the salmon crisps were amazing. Definitely would go back if I'm back at Guelph!

A cool restaurant bar located in the centre of Guelph. Atmosphere certainly has plenty of that. We went to meet a group of friends here who had already eaten. It was the end of service and admittedly we were hungry, and the wait staff asked if we would like a meal without hesitation. We sheared a mixture of ribs, chips and pizza between us. The food was good and we stayed around for a while longer for some drinks. The waiter we had was really friendly and stopped at our table for a while for a chat which was nice. Atmosphere has cool decor and plenty of vibe. Well worth a look in.

They even asked the sous chef to make sure the presentation was excellent; he didn't disappoint. Their menu changes seasonally. I ordered the following: 1. Coke ($). 2. Tempura Shrimp ($27). 3. Crispy Duck Leg Confit & Breast ($46). 4. Saskatoon Berry Cheesecake ($14). The Tempura Shrimp were tiger shrimp and were so plump, each about 1 inch diameter at the widest end! They were de-shelled and tempura battered. There were orange slices (orange), avocado slices (green), and chili slices (red), making the dish colourful. The Crispy Duck came with a leg and sliced breast portions. Accompanying them were tamarillo, sunchoke puree, bordelaise, dried kale chips, berry gastrique, and chopped candied pecans. All the ingredients worked well together, with mixtures of savoury and sweet tastes. The Cheesecake was amazing. The cheesecake itself was an upside-down half sphere. It was soft; I prefer that over the typical firm cake. There were miniature dried berries on top, along with a ruby chocolate sauce, and a sliced of dried red beet. Surrounding it was a soft marshmallow meringue which was lightly torched. The colour theme was red and white with a touch of dark blue. Daimon, the sous chef, plated everything expertly for me. There is plenty of indoor seating, of which one side has a view of the lake. There is lively music playing in the background. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms. There is free street parking on weekends on a street running north of the restaurant. There is also a paid parking lot next to the restaurant. Returned to Spencer's at the Waterfront for brunch and was not disappointed…read more I enjoy visiting Spencer's on special occasions. At the recommendation of the service staff, I ordered the Crab Cake Egg Benedict (lemon aïoli, boston lettuce, chive hollandaise), served for weekend brunch only. Similar to my previous meals here, the food had subtle layers of flavour that came together nicely with every bite. I tend to gravitate to food that I can't get at other restaurants. The server informed us that the meal was not served on brioche like the other Egg Benedict's, but I was still full with the side salad (yeh, no arugula). My husband ordered the side fries so his belly was full. There were two crab cakes with eggs, and plenty of crab inside. I was glad that I didn't taste fillers. Service was good and we sat at a table with a waterfront view. The Sloane tea and beverages were a pricey and small for what they were, hence one of the reasons I don't come here as frequently. Overall, I enjoy the food here.

The owner (I believe she is the owner) greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. She brought us water and menus. My sister and I ordered 2 cabbage rolls, Potato and Cheese Pierogies, Meat Pierogies with bacon and onions to share. For my son, we tried ordering the schnitzel sandwich, but was told that was unavailable. My son doesn't eat mashed potatoes so I asked if I could just order him a schnitzel and she said yes. The food came out in about 15 minutes. The cabbage rolls were fantastic, the perfect amount of acidity in the sauce. I really don't like tomatoes or cabbage, but there is something special about the cabbage rolls. I ate very bit of mine. The pierogies were wonderful. I usually prefer just potato and cheese, but honestly between those and the meat, I couldn't decide which I liked more. Both were flavorful especially with the sauteed onions and sour cream. My son's schnitzel was huge! He could only eat about half of it and when my son asked for ketchup (much to my dismay) the owner was very nice about it and commented that's the way her daughter likes it too. Honestly the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was great. It was very similar to what I had in Poland. If this restaurant was closer to my home I would visit often. We had no issue with parking. We were able to get a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Parking was also not too expensive since you aren't in the downtown area. If you are in the area and want a wonderful meal, be sure to visit.

There seems to be a lot of drama between the management and the entertainment staff as we've witnessed a couple of meltdowns by the singer on more than one occasion. This results in a far less than enthusiastic performance and no singing past 11pm. She also acts aggressively towards patrons as we witnessed when she sang happy birthday to one of the other groups that were celebrating the night we were there. The staff yank the food off the tables quickly, so you need to make sure you eat as soon as they bring it out. There are other oddities that soiled our experience. Upon arrival we were harassed by a rabid coat-check guy who insisted that everyone check their coats. No need to be so aggressive...not a great way to welcome people to the venue. There is also an old guy that comes around taking pictures and tries to sell the prints. If you decide to buy from him, give him exact change. Our friends bought 2 photos from him for $30, but when they gave him two $20 bills he took off without giving them their change. All in all, too much hassle, sketchiness and drama. There are a ton of other similar banquet halls in the area, so we would not consider booking a party here.

This is not one of those huge typical banquets and your not just another number! You feel like a VIP guest invited by the owner; who at all times is in site, the stage and visits you at your table and makes sure all your needs are met! The decor is classy sophisticated and the music is really fun and up beat (mostly European, Russian, Romanian, Latin, jazz and even a mix of the Middle East) and it's always LIVE. I especially love their food! Since I'm a 'foodie' it's definitely a fusion of Europe and some.. And the way it's served is very unique! It's not the traditional 'per plate servings', you gotta see it to believe it! As soon as you arrive you notice the cozy modern fire places, warm decor lit up by cozy candle light, you hear the soft mellow music in the background (before the band goes on) and are amazed as you approach your table; it is set with your 'starter menu' (each event, table setting is customized by you and the management/owner) You will see multiple styles of salad, antipasto style cold cuts, seafood, caviar with fresh crepes and much more!!! Later as the mood picks up and the band starts playing the dance floor gets really full, and in between breaks, as you visit your table for a little break, or a drink you notice the starter apps leaving your table , but don't worry! Their being replaced with warm food, multiple times / and finally your main meals which could include shish-kabobs, Kiev cutlets grilled or baked salmon or other selections (depending on what was chosen during booking) the drinks keep flowing, the music keeps playing and if there's even a tiny ounce left in you, you will be served fresh hot tea and coffee, desserts and fresh fruit! Want to feel like a king or queen for the day? I definitely did! We've even had our children's party here for brunch, they have large screens by the stage, they catered to all our needs, with child friendly entertainment (clowns, dancers etc) kids menu, music and even kids movies playing on those huge screens I mentioned earlier! We have a blast every time! Need I say more?

Street parking was reasonably easy to find. We were seated way back in the restaurant and the seating was a little uncomfortable as our table was set up right next to the bar (but way too close to the bar, because our table was long) and other patrons had to constantly shimmy through a small gap between our table and the bar to get to the washrooms downstairs. Not great. We ordered a family style meals to share (combo for 2 and a combo for 4) and the amount of food that came out was probably enough to feed 10 very hungry adults. Definitely do not indulge on the bread basket that comes before the meal, because you will need to save room for the main event. The massive platters came loaded with pierogies, 2 different types of cabbage rolls (my favs!), schnitzels, and various condiments (?) of cooked beets, carrots, cabbages...etc. We were first served 1 different soups; white borscht and beet soup and both were tasty. The meat dumplings in the beet soup balanced out the sweetness of the broth and it worked well. I personally preferred the white borscht which was perfectly sour and a slightly over-powering sausage taste. The refreshing cucumber salad with dill in sour cream was a great accompaniment to somewhat heavy tasting meal. The hunters stew was a hearty bowl of tender morsels of meat, potato dumplings in a well balanced tomato based sauce. Although most of our food was great, we found the cabbage rolls (the traditional tomato version) and the schnitzels too dry. And along with the issue of having to deal with people constantly brushing by, I am taking away 2 stars. I may revisit Cafe Polonez if I'm back in the area, but not in a huge rush either.
