We came here for a private work event on a weekday evening and very much enjoyed the venue. They had several games set up (corn hole, horse shoes, and roping) plus lovely live music. The grounds are very well kept and truly give off the Texas ranch feeling. For starters I'm not sure how they received 192 great reviews. If I could give them zero stars I would. The people were so rude. They even spoke to the children rudely. I couldn't tell they dealt with children on a daily. By how they were speaking they shouldn't see children at all. I do see they think they're stuck in the 1960's but this is 2025. There's a proper way to speak to children. Not only that. The little man with house told me to stop recording him because it was rude. They never mention nor have on their property to not record the people while talking. Again, it's 2025 that's a normal thing to do. I would highly suggest the Hot zoo any day than this place. Parents keep your ten bucks in your pockets and it's not even worth your child going for free. There were several parents with me who felt the same way during and after this field trip with our children. They must be doing this because they need the money because clearly they don't enjoy it!!!!!! read more

Help! Help! I got lost. I lost track of time after a single visit to the 1830's Jones Stock Farm House. The ladies explained to us how the residents lived back then. I was speechless seeing all the farm tools, bedding and furniture from centuries ago. Although this house was rebuilt by the original builder when it was destroyed by fire long time ago. George Ranch Historical Park is absolutely a must-go place when you have out-of-town visitors. I got submerged into the nature's beauty and wonders from the past. Lucky me, Eddie S. poked me to bring me back to 21st century. I need to come visit few more times to experience how people from 1800's lived and take more photos of this nature's beauty. What a shame that I have no prior knowledge about this lively historic park in Houston. Commute here was no issue for me (thanks to Eddie, my tour guide). I was here during a company picnic. I wish I had more time to do a thorough tour of this place. Wow, just wow! My husband and I attended George ranch high school and we were the first class going into Polly Ryan middle school (where we met). Middle school sweet hearts. It was so surreal passing our middle school, junior high and high school then arriving at the George ranch chapel to get married. The chapel was amazing and everything we dreamed of. Everyone was so nice and the chapel fit our family and close friends perfectly. Taking pictures with the longhorns was amazing. The bridal suite and groomsmen suite were perfect! For anyone wanting a traditional wedding in a 1900s chapel, this is most definitely your place. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! David was a great guy to work with and recommend a harpist for our ceremony and it was the talk of the wedding! The harpist sounded beautiful in this all wooden chapel! read more

Can't get much better than this for a day out with little kids in the springtime in TX! We went on a cool day with the stroller and walked the whole park loop. Saw a cattle drive, blacksmith, wild flowers, farm animals, and period homes. The interpreters were great. Bring a picnic and a blanket or there are tables too. Lots of restrooms throughout and a tram runs every 20 minutes if you can't walk the whole thing. Buy your tickets in advance and check in at the visitor's center when you arrive to get your stickers and map. Everyone was great about distancing and masking. Have fun! read more

What a blast! We went this past Sunday on their New Year celebration event. It was very fun. They had activities for the kids that my daughter enjoyed (like mask making and little good luck apples). When we first arrived and went through the visitor center where the gift shop is, the ladies behind the register were so kind and helpful. I wish I got their names. They were great at recommending where to start and what to do. They answered my questions and made us feel very welcome. I watched them interact with the families in front of us, and they were very sincere in making sure everyone had a pleasant time. That kind of customer service you don't find too often. The luncheon they had was over the top good that we signed up for. The ham, black eyed peas, cabbage, greens, cornbread, etc all tasted like heaven. My five year old inhaled the cabbage like crazy, normally she won't clean her plate because she's a smaller little gal, but today was an exception. I was impressed! Some of the staff/volunteers you can tell LOVE their jobs and are passionate about what they do. "Mr. Jones" at the first older cabin with no electricity was so patient and kind with my daughter's many questions. He let her go pick eggs from the chickens as well, which she enjoyed thoroughly. She loved hearing their stories, I've never seen so her fascinated with things that didn't involve cartoons, an iPad, or candy. Seriously, the patience they had with her questions about everything made me smile. It was also neat to see the different people visiting. England, Canada, other states across the US. It was a treat to see how popular this place was for visitors and it was right down the road for us. PARENTS: -Bring comfortable shoes. Check the weather, if it has been raining, you will need to find a pair that may get a tad muddy! -Bring a small or lighter backpack to put some drinks in, especially for warmer months. -Consider packing some bug spray for mosquitos when it's warmer out, since there's water throughout the property and you'll be outside the majority of the time. -During colder months, the backpack would be good to use for packing a blanket for this little ones like during the cowboy demonstration. -Consider bringing a stroller, since you'll most likely be walking. An easy to fold up umbrella stroller would be good if you want to jump on the tractor ride. We enjoying walking and not having to wait on the tractor. It's only a mile loop around, with all the stops spread out so it's not like you'll be walking long periods of time. -If the weather will be chilly, bring a jacket as you'll be outdoors a lot for the demonstrations. We went on a cold day, and wish we had brought mittens, as well. Not necessary, but would've been nice to have. -Check before coming to see if they have any special events or lunches. On a non event weekend it's fun to just experience the peacefulness while walking to the different homes to hear the stories. We've attended their fall/halloween events and christmas events. And their Texian Market Days is full of fun with period reenactments, good food, and shopping at the mini fair of vendor booths. We've been members for years. We love it! read more

This place brings back memories, as I would go here for field trips during my elementary school years. It was nice to be able to share this experience with my husband and parents! George Ranch is still in the middle of nowhere, but definitely worth visiting if you're interested in Texas history. After coming here, you'll realize why things are named the way they are in the town of Richmond. I truly enjoyed visiting all the different period homes. We started in the 1830s, with this small cottage that also served as a farm. There's a live pig and a chicken coop on the premises, and the kids that were visiting had the hands-on opportunity to move and distribute hay to all the animals. The 1860's house was a slight upgrade, bigger with actual stairs and a detached kitchen. What's cool is that they might start hosting dinners in the kitchen sometime in 2016; imagine having an 1860s style formal dinner, along with an explanation of what used to be done back then! The 1890's house was gorgeous, very Victorian with a lot of furniture imported from Europe. There was even an Asian style room in the house, which was neat to see. The man who hosted the tour here was very informative and was able to answer all my questions about life back then. We weren't able to see the 1930s house as the 2:00 tour ran late and we were a bit tired. Walking around wasn't too bad, but if the tractor/tram came around, we took advantage of it. As this is very outdoorsy, I recommend coming here when it's not raining (unless you want to deal with a lot of mud.) Wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, as you'll be spending a lot of time walking around outside. read more

Terrible, the place is nice, the history is nice. The staff is extremely rude!!! Not once were they welcoming. Actually, only one person was nice--- Bob. Every one else was short, and plain out rude. The guy who was driving the tractor literally told us "hurry up, and get on- I won't inconvenience my other riders" as we were literally rushing. Not to mention, that one of the gentlemen who gave us a tour was caught rolling his eyes on several occasions. The whole experience was terrible. I only give it one star because Bob seemed to be the only one who had patience with the kids. Such a shame!!!!! read more

I recently visited George Ranch for a field trip with my daughter and loved it! Apparently if you come early during weekdays in Spring or Autumn, you may have to contend with a host of school children also there on field trips which means long lines and limited tours. They have no way of knowing ahead of time who is showing up, so if you're coming during the week, plan to come a little later in the day so you can enjoy more personalized, thorough tours, less noise and shorter lines. We arrived at opening time on a weekday and just happened to score a day with over 500 school children on field trips. The staff had to shorten and limit their tours to try and get all the classes through by lunch. We were not allowed to view the upstairs of the houses and the tours were just very basic. We did stick around until the school buses left (about 12:30) and re-did one of the tours (the Victorian House) and there was a big difference. So much more interesting and informational and we got to see the whole place. There are 4 main houses, so leave yourself enough time to see them all -- the Log Cabin , the 1830s house (fairly quick tour) the Victorian Era house (30 minute tour) and the George House. There is also a cattle roping exhibition and a few other cattle related things. We got to do everything but the George house, so will be heading back at some point to see the rest. There is a fair amount of walking involved, so wear comfy shoes. They do have a hay ride/tractor that comes around and takes you from house to house, but you can walk around too. Overall, it's a very fun and educational. The houses are beautiful Museums of Houston History full of period specific items. Little kids (under 3) would probably be quite bored and might break something really expensive if you're not careful. The Staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend coming here if you love museums and old houses. read more

Ever wondered what it was like to live in Texas during the 1800s and early 1900s? Well here's your chance. I had driven past this place a couple of times on my way to the observatory and the park. And was always curious what it was all about. Well luckily Google offers made my decision easier by offering half off tickets. It only saved me 10 bucks but these days any reason to save money is a plus in my book. Normal admission is 10 per adult. I would recommend wearing some sunblock and brining bottled water. It gets HOT. You can walk from museum house to the next or ride along on the tractor that drags along a covered cart. The timing of this thing is pretty good as it makes a round in about 30 minutes and it takes about 20 per stop. So if everything works out you can hop off go inside for a tour and come back out just in time to hop back on. I liked it because you can touch many of the items, not everything but a lot. They keep it very real. The tour guides could be a bit more informative but it was just enough not to get you bored. read more

It is such a beautiful place to come and explore and learn about history and what this ranch has to offer to the public, although, this would NOT be a good place to bring students for a field trip during a hot summer day. Please make sure to bring enough water if that's the case. Many of our students suffered from dehydration and that's the school's fault as well as the ranch's for allowing these kind of field trips during a hot weather time. Most water fountains were filthy and students were not able to drink from there. Also, one of the show cases was on the outdoors under the bright hot sun, where there was no type of ceiling covering that area. Please think about the little kids. read more

Not good for families with small kids. Everything moves at a snails pace and has very little entertainment value. You have to wait to get into every house and then wait in each room and my toddlers were just miserable. One of the staff yelled at my 3 year old for running near the chickens and told me to watch my kid and not let her chase them. God forbid they have some fun. Also waited for ages for them to start the cattle drive which the receptionist said would be amazing and the cowboys said "here we go!" then proceeded to waddle off on their horses at the slowest possible walk they could do far far off into the distance to go get the cows. Seriously? Gallop off and wave your cowboy hat and make it exciting for the families that are sitting here waiting for you. I didn't spend money and time to watch a bunch of horses tails wander off into the distance for 20 minutes. Seriously so boring. Why not add a petting zoo or something for the kids? The property is pretty and the inside of the houses were nice to see the history but I will never bring my family back here. We all left feeling very bored and wishing we had done literally anything else. read more

Don't know her name, but I think she does the donut challenge event as well. Bit cheesy. Staffs are not friendly. Need some professional training from people that run theme parks. In my opinion, it's a bit of waste of time. If the staffs are a bit better trained, it could be a nice place. The programs are kinda silly as well. Yes! Absolutely amazing! Loved experiencing the different houses and the ways of living and the history of the family. We took a picnic lunch and took a break after going through 2 of the houses (as well as the blacksmith shop and the sharecroppers house). It started raining like crazy so we missed the cowboy/cattle demonstration....but that's just all the more reason to come back! read more

We took family from out of state to the ranch, and we all had a great time. The staff are very nice and informative with the rich history of the ranch. It is really fun to start at the first (1830's) home and work your way up to the 1930's home. You see how the styles and mannerisms changed, and how the lifestyle changed as the family got wealthier. One of the most interesting points for me is how the Davis's had one of the first prenuptial agreements in the State of Texas in order to keep the ranch in the daughter's name. We paid extra for the Victorian Roast Lunch, and it was well worth it. Sitting under a huge oak tree on the front lawn of the 1890's Davis House, and eating food indicative of the era was great. The chef talked about the different dishes and how difficult each would have been to come by in the 1890's. Food and a history lesson together! read more

This place is amazing! I got a deal on Living Social to come here and it did not disappoint ! I learned so much about Texas history here. From the beginning of the tour to the end, I felt I was like in a time machine. The museum curators were so nice and knowledgable. The tractor that takes you around to each destination is so timely, when you are done with one tour, it comes to pick you up and take you to the next destination. There was a blacksmith there who was also friendly and showed us some of his craftsmanship. I'm definitely coming back especially in October for Texan Market Days where they have tons of food and demos. The gift shop is so nice and affordable. I highly recommend this place. read more

We did a breakfast here and it was so totally worth it, even on a cold day when we couldn't eat outside at the normal chuckwagon spot. The cook was funny/informative and the food was delicious...unless you're a vegetarian or something lol. I really enjoyed walking around the property to the different houses. The only complaint about George Ranch Historical Park is that it's too far away. Seriously great place with lots of history, beautiful nature trail (coming from a person who does not typically get excited by nature or trails), working farm, and most of all extremely dedicated staff. First time I came with my 3 kids (about 4, 7 and 10 at the time). It was an unbearably hot day. In reality we had no business being there in that heat, and in fact we were the ONLY visitors that day. We started at the little cowboy arena where a few cowboys were hanging out. I was just going to ask for directions on what to see first but the Cowboys told us to have a seat and started a show just for us (!) They recited the story of the ranch, got the longhorns out, lassoed a calf (my urban children objected to that part)- it was a fabulous performance (did I mention they did all that in crazy hot weather?). We got through 3 of the houses that first time and I left really impressed by all the personal attention we got at each spot (there was no one else to give attention to, but still...) I read up on the ranch after our visit and learned about the Texian Market Days they have in October, my whole family went back as volunteers and had even more fun going back in time and playing the parts. read more

When I think of Texas...like before I moved to Texas 10 years ago, this is the epitome of what I envision. Sprawling "ranch" land, farms, fields, hay bales, gorgeous old school homes with porches for days, wagons etc etc. I was here for a work event and received a brief, but very interesting, summary of the history of the George Ranch and the George Family by the CEO of The George Foundation. They are open more frequently than one would assume for touring and apparently they even do period meals in different areas of the ranch...how cool is that? I know my son has come here for field trips and loved it and I have to say it is a very charming and intriguing place. read more

Wondeful place to spend the afternoon or even a whole day. We were so pleasantly surprised by how cool,of a place this is to visit. We particularly enjoyed the cattle demonstration as well as the guided visits to all of the houses/mansions. The guides are dressed in clothes from the 1800's and are very knowledgable. Big history buff here and I absolutely loved experiencing Spring Break at George Ranch! From the people at guest services, the reenactors, volunteers, tour guides and tram operators, it was a wonderful group and it is evident they enjoyed sharing the history of this working Texas ranch. We very much enjoyed the Chuckwagon lunch, we saw a huge alligator and a baby alligator. We fed chickens and pet the pigs, visited with the reenactors, walked a lot, toured 3 of the 4 homes and got so tuckered, we enjoyed hanging out on the various porches and verandas. We had perfect weather and enjoyed every minute of our time on the ranch! read more

Cousin broke me down and I'm doing Yelp! now. Only been out here once. Last year for the Ghosts and Grub event at Halloween. Tours were great. Food was odd. I understood the gimmick was for Halloween themed food, but it fell a little flat. Don't let that stop you from going out. I hear the food for other events is awesome. read more

We've gone to several of the George Ranch's planned events. The Texian Market Day and the Campfire Christmas are two of them. Both are fun and entertaining. This past Saturday, we attended the Campfire Christmas and had a great time. They served a good meal buffet style inside the barn. Then you board a tram or hay wagon with stops throughout the ranch. Our first stop they served us some hot cider. Inside the house the actor/s are dressed in period clothing. They don't just tell you the history, they act it out in a way to make you think they are really from the 1800's or just returning from the Civil War. We listened to "Uncle Bob's" account of the Civil War. There's a stop at the cowboy campfire, where they entertain you with songs from the old west and such. While listening to the cowboy singing, they serve you cider and coffee. The next stop you get to meet "Albert George." All the characters know their history and answer questions from the visitors about the life during that particular time period. The people are really friendly and good at what they do. At the end, we listened to a choir of school kids singing Christmas carols. The only issue you might face comes from mother nature. Since you need to make reservations in advance, there's no way to predict the weather and this is an outdoor event. However, the show goes on regardless of the weather. Ticket prices might seem high, but you get a good meal (with dessert) and are entertained at the different stops. It's an event that could become a family tradition. It has with my family. read more
