I wish more restaurants like this one existed. This establishment is entirely gluten free, but the food is so good that people who are able to gluten won't know the difference. I can eat gluten, but I visited Auckland with my friend who has a gluten sensitivity. We both ate the chef's special, which was the chicken fried rice with sweet chili sauce. Speaking as someone who has no dietary restrictions, this was the best meal I've eaten in a long time, and most certainly the best meal my friend and I have eaten since we arrived in Auckland. The sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. They use organic vegetables from their garden in their dishes, and you can taste the difference. We also got a chocolate & strawberry sponge cake and almond shortbread cookie, both of which were delicious. They had the perfect level of sweetness that allows the flavors to shine instead of the sugar. I ordered a vanilla and strawberry sponge cake to take back to the hotel and can't wait to eat it.
The restaurant owners and chef are very friendly and they're knowledgeable about celiac disease. No outside food or drink are allowed in order to prevent cross contamination.
I wish more dedicated gluten free establishments like this one existed in the U.S. I can say with 100% confidence that I'll miss this place when I return home. Don't shy away from going here even if you can eat gluten. You won't be disappointed. read more
