Chicken tikka kebab and sharmi kebab
Ngan Q.

I love seeing this little gem evolve over the years. It has gone from strength to strength. I recall when it was just a humble kebab shop with a few tables. Their latest extension replaces a portion of the carpark to accommodate more patrons. Clearly their popularity has exceeded expectations. And for very good reason as their food is consistently good! I visit this establishment every few months answering the charcoal meat call. The whole chicken, chicken kebabs, sharmi kebas, okra curry and bread are some of my favourite. As a non red meat eater, I won't comment on the lamb dishes. The service is simple, friendly and efficient. The value is there, but decreasing with every update of their menu / venue. I still think it is great value for what you pay for. However, I would be keeping a very close eye on their numerous competitions down the road, both sides! Look forward to my next visit!

Meat platter with rice - more than enough for 6 people :)
Gurpreet S.

Very very impressed with this place. I went with a group of people ( 6 of us in total) and we picked a meat platter- I could not get over how much food there was and how TENDER all the meat was!! It was so moorish! All of the meat (chicken and lamb pieces) were well seasoned and cooked to perfection! The platter of meats came on a fragrant bed of rice -which was probably the best rice I have tasted in Adelaide! the breads (think they were naan type breads) were hot when they arrived and we were given a number of side dips and a little side salad to share between 2-3 - loved all these little extras :) Tentative service and a relaxed atmosphere make this place a pleasure to dine at. Will be coming back for more.

The flavour of the chicken was like no other, mere words will not do it justice.

The Afghan Charcoal Kebab place I enjoyed eating at from time to time has moved and now baring…read moresmashed windows it was probably a good move! Their new restaurant is quite big and full of space. It does feel a little sterile and non-homely but I do like the slight modernish interior of black vinyl and chrome seats and the sexy chandeliers with red fabric light fittings surrounding them. They even have some new flat screen tvs around the place and I think even LED screens for what will be the menu above the counter?? (Don't quote me on that last bit!) Bbq chicken with rice and salad. You can't knock that back for $10. It's a decent serving size as well. Some parts of the chicken were a little dry but it still tasted delicious! Mantu dumplings were pretty good. However since having tasted Parwana's, there is no comparison. Parwana's dumplings with that lamb sauce...zomg! Here the dumplings were nice enough but the lentils in the sauce were slightly undercooked. The staff were friendly and smiling and had a little chat about the move from South Rd to here. Hoping they do well at the new premises. If you are in the area and looking for a good and tasty cheap lunch, then this is your place! Bare in mind the wait times for meals to come out, you can't rush delicious charcoaled meats!

Firstly, rest assured my loyal Yelpers, Barbra Streisand is not in da house!…read moreI have always avoided going in to Hello Dolly for precisely that reason, but much to my surprise I did not find Babs behind the counter. My change of heart came around as a result of a friend of mine telling me how freaking awesome a 'wrap' of his was then refusing to give me a taste (prick). So I had to check it out, and they are pretty darn good! It's funny, usually I am not too big a fan of hummus, but it worked really well. I turned down the tabouli, but I am sure it is all good if you are into it. The little sweets looked really good, but I didn't give them a burl this time. I will be sure to next week though! Also they cater, so could be a go if you are looking for something a little different for you next Brithday or Beerday (everyday is a possible Beerday!).

Some interesting items available are; the Kibbi, Meat or vegitarian balls, sort of like a croquette, but made with rice; Kafta, big kuicy balls of ground meat; Lebanese Omlette, Spinach Pie and the cabbage rolls. They also do shasliks and shishkebabs.

Rumi Palace is run by and cooked by a Genuine Muslim Afghan family. It's not a true romantic restaurant location but it's not a food court or chain restaurant either. The flavours and tastes are amazing. The food is more on the Persian end of Afghan food but it's distinctive. It's not greasy or salty and whilst some dishes have chilli, most have great subtle flavours and aromas coming from turmeric and other flavours. Try the dumplings! The lamb shanks are also divine. They are a little slow but that's because most dishes are made from scratch and prepared on the spot without microwaves or Bain Marie's. Great, simple but fine flavoured meat (lamb mostly) and vegetable dishes and nice deserts. BYO only due to Muslim owners but there is BWS at Norwood shopping arcade open till 8 every night.

I will go here before any of the rest! I really love Afghan food. It just tastes so homely. Like most Afghan restaurants, you will notice a family working together and producing some amazing meals. You can see the time and effort they have put in to plan their restaurant. There is a little "special" seating area set up in the back with pillows on the floor and a round table for groups. They have also really tried to lift the space with some traditional looking tiles that are so colourful and vibrant! It was hard to make a decision with this menu, there are some great choices. I also could see that they offer special meals on certain days of the week. I recall seeing a special lamb shank; I look forward to return to try that one. Afghan dumplings and traditional chicken kebabs were too good not to order! If you have not already tried an Afghan dumpling, you need to. They are generally filled with the most delicious vegetarian fillings and served with lamb sauce and cream. Oh, these were just perfect! Beautiful bundles of lentils and vegetables covered in perfectly seasoned tomato and lamb based sauce. Nice work! The Chicken Kebab was different to what I expected. The meat was cut in a lot larger portions and it was served on top of pita bread. With some additional bread and salad to the side. I thought this would be served to make a wrap, but no worries. The chicken was so full of flavour, cinnamon, turmeric, onions, and vegetables. Not sure on the other spices, but it was not hot. It tasted so fresh! Yup, I agree with the other reviews, you need to check this one out when you are in Norwood! My only suggestion to the owners would be to look at offering some banquet options with different pricing! I think a lot of customers would love that option. It is the type of cuisine that you want to just try a little bit of everything!

Located on a quiet business district on Port Road, this small restaurant serves communal Uighur dishes. When we arrived we were seated on a round table where there was a small round glass turntable place at the center, which came in handy later as we didn't need to reach out to share each other dishes. The menu is accompanied by photographs and its translated name, which makes ordering a little easier and allows us to identify our dishes when it arrived. The staff who took our order won't very friendly and spoke broken English. I ordered the stir-fry meat with onions and spices which arrived 30 minutes after ordering. At first glance I thought my dish looks a bit odd, I've had never seen bread added in a stir-fly dish before. Normally stir-fly is served with rice but serve with bread seem strange to me. The bread is very similar to garlic bread but spicy and best consume when it is still hot. The meat was well marinated and when stir-fly with the onions it was very tasty, but there were too much of the spicy bread. Lucky I was with my friends who were more than happy to eat the rest for me. The servicing size of many of the dishes were more than enough for one person and are intended to be share amount friends. I get to sample many different dishes and I thought the handmade noodles were really delicious. There are no alcohol beverages serve here but plenty of tea, soft drinks and tap water. Overall I had a good time dinning at this restaurant but there are some room for improvement especially with the service. The prices are affordable considering the size of some of the dishes. Many of their dishes are very spicy, so make sure you have a drink on the side. If you and your friends are looking to try something new give this place a try.
