This is the second year I have used the Giving Tree, and my yard has never looked better. The grass is much thicker and greener than it has ever been in my 28 years living here. We;ve been with the Giving Tree for a few years now and our lawn has never looked better. Super professional, on-time, very knowledgeable. People stop and ask about our lawn it's so lovely. We've been with a few companies and The Giving Tree is by far the best. I think part of the secret is that we don't try to tell the techs what to do! I hear others say how they tell them to do this or that. Those techs are highly trained and have to pass difficult exams to be licensed. Unfortunately 1 star is the lowest rating you can give on this site. I should have know from the beginning not to go with this company for my fertilizer needs. They had scheduled my initial consultation Feb 20, 2019 7AM and the guy never showed up he ended up coming out in mid March.. I signed up for the fertilizer package with Tick/Flea program because we have 2 dogs. They didn't put the 1st application down until beg of May. I take a lot of pride in my property and the lawn is very important to me. With that being said they missed the boat big time. I had weeds in June, July, Aug & Sept. My lawn was at the stage were the grass was overcome by weeds and it was literally brown from the grass dying off. The only green was the weeds. I have an in-ground sprinkler system so they could not say that watering was the problem. I had made numerous calls to express my concern pertaining to the weed infestation. With each application they were killing off my good grass. No soil samples were ever done to this point. They scheduled a tech to come out mid July and I had taken time off from work so I could be there when they came. I waited the whole day and finally was able to make contact with the tech, who called me at 5:15PM stating he was unable to get to my address because the office over scheduled him. No one contacted me to inform me of this before I wasted a whole day sitting at home. I was told by the tech I would have to reschedule. Two weeks later they showed up without informing me of them coming and looked at the grass. They said it was nut sledge?? Airborne from my neighbors grass. they treated it and guaranteed it would be gone. The only thing that was gone was my grass. I had spoken to Patrick the owner on Aug 26th with regard to my lawn and concerns, he claims a sample was taken but he had no clue where the sample was or the results. All they kept telling me was give it a couple weeks and the fertilizer would kill off the weeds. Everyone has green grass in the spring/fall. He offered me a FREE aeration/seeding and I had told him that I would have to get back to him with regard to this because i had to mark out the water lines for the sprinkler system. 3 wks later, without my permission, they should up and did the aeration, without my permission, and punctured the line, numerous times, to my sprinkler system. I contacted the company and they were going to have the tech come back and he was to contact me prior. He never contacted me prior to the visit to repair the line and just showed up to do the work. If killing my grass wasn't bad enough. They had only put down "1" application of the Tic/Flea prevention and this was done on the very 1st application beg of May. So My property went the whole summer without protection. I have 2 dogs who we let out in our fenced in yard. For the 1st time in 7yrs I found myself, just within the past week of this post, removing ticks from both. This past Saturday I had to take one of my dogs to the Vet because he was experiencing symptoms of Lyme disease. The vet visit was in excess of $400. The only saving grace for this company was Lisa the office mgr, She was very compassionate. Although she tried to maintain me as a customer there were way too many negatives for me to stay with this company or even let them touch my lawn going forward. In the end they had the nerve to send me bill for $187 for the applications of fertilizer that killed my lawn. Not only have I endured embarrassment from my grass being the worst in the neighborhood, as you can see in the pictures I maintain a beautiful garden, and now I am left to deal with medical issues from the possible Lyme disease with my pet because they did not apply the Tick/Flea protection as contracted. The Giving Tree installed our sprinkler system 15 years ago, and have properly maintained it ever since. We have also used them for lawn care over that 15 year period, with 5 or 6 applications annually. We frequently get compliments from neighbors, friends, and others on the quality of our lawn. I have not used this service but my neighbor does and whoever was spreading the toxic pesticide was going on my lawn too. I have a dog and now won't be able to walk him except in the road. That stuff does not stop being toxic after a day. It never stops being toxic. They should use safer alternatives. It kills dogs- and people. read more

They go out of their way to make sure your lawn looks perfect! We have never had a problem with them and we've been customers with them for many years. We do not have an irrigation system. read more

I am a new customer for the giving tree in Hamden CT. They opened my irrigation system and I paid for replacement heads and to make sure the sprinklers were working properly and the sprinklers were aimed to cover all parts of the lawn. A few days later I called them to tell them that some of the sprinklers were aimed at the street and driveway, not the lawn. Basically I was watering the road and driveway! The women that answers the phone told me there would be a service charge to come out to the house and fix the problem! They wanted to charge me again for something that should of been done in the opening! To top it off, they saved my debit card information and charged my card without my authorization! I do not recommend this company at all! read more

This company has been taking care of my lawn for about 5 years and they are very courteous, prompt and I think, reasonably priced for the service they provide. I don't have an irrigation system so it is just fertilizing and pest control but lawn is doing great. read more

My irrigation system was "serviced", sprinkler heads "replaced", but my irrigation system to my home not working correctly. Paid over $700.00 and they refused to come and at least look at my system and check the problems I was complaining about. The owner was rude and Lisa the phone person was not knowledgeable about the business. I do not recommend this company. I also placed a complainant with the Attorney Generals Office. Awaiting reply. I sought their services for a landscape project in my yard. Made a consultation appointment. Discussed the project. Picked what I wanted. Was told the plants were found and tagged and that the project would happen the second week of May. By the middle of that week, when I hadn't received a call about the specific day, I called and left a message. No response. I called back again a week later-no response. Totally unacceptable. In fact, when I told someone else how disgusted I was, he relayed that he had had a similar experience with them. read more

Came to my condo to do pesticide application..posted 2 signs for entire complex, neither I can see from my unit..my dog ate grass and was violently ill all day till i noticed sign by dumster that evening taking out trash. My dog then next day was unable to walk and rusjed to vet, 4 days later he is now wobly and has a head tilt and his eyes were racing back and forth..he was in hospital for 3 days..owner of giving tree finally called me after several messages to tell me he'll put me on list for next time..my dog is dying and his final words on phone were..have a nice day! He is not taking any responsibility for the fact that the proper amount of signage was not posted..this could of happened to small children also...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.. read more
