Granted this was during COVID but none of the other schools had such a high turnover. It was also messy, disorganized and their communication was horrible. I think could have lived with all that. However, my 3 year old came home with a black eye one day. She told me that "Ms Yin Li kicked her in the face with her foot because she was angry that she would not fall asleep during nap time". When I called the school the next day to ask what happened, the principal, owner and other staff, tried to give me 100 theories as to what could have happened to her (she must have bumped herself against the cot, she probably hit herself against the bench because kids fight for the red bench, it happened outside of school, etc) instead of focusing on what my child was saying. I tried to have the school press charges against Yin Li, but she had already also resigned and they told me it was "too late" (maybe 5 weeks had passed since the incident) so I decided to file a complaint with the state (which came back inconclusive but at least I reported and recorded the incident). Please don't send your kids to this place, there are other much better schools in the area. From the beginning, it felt as though the administration attempted to force our child into a rigid, cookie-cutter mold rather than approaching him as an individual. In the 90 days we were enrolled, the concerns raised often felt excessive and out of proportion for a typical four-year-old. During his time there, our son was subjected to bullying and unkind behavior from classmates, which was not adequately addressed. He experienced daily emotional meltdowns, asked to be picked him up early every day, and grew to hate going to school altogether. He expressed feeling that the administration and staff did not like him, which was heartbreaking to hear from a child so young. Communication with us was overwhelmingly negative. Not once did a staff member share something positive about our son, despite him being described by multiple childcare professionals we trust as exhibiting entirely age-appropriate behavior. We received near-daily reports of issues that felt outlandish and unnecessarily alarming. Additionally, very few staff members used positive reinforcement or supportive intonation when speaking to him. Class sizes were extremely large, up to 25 children in his class! Perhaps most troubling was the inconsistency and insensitivity in communication. While staff spoke one way to us in person, they sent urgent-toned emails about our son during two major life events for our family, including one email sent just two days before our wedding, framing matters as emergencies when they were not. Early childhood education should be rooted in patience, compassion, and developmental understanding. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this location.

I have been here through the days of Sue and Blythe and now with Alaya. I have seen multiple people in the management team after Sue left the center and was here through the rocky times. The thing that kept me here during those rocky times were the amazing teachers. There was never a day where I thought that my child was in danger or not being taken care of by his teachers. Alaya was given a mess a little over a year ago and has really brought together a great team of management who brought the center around. They have all been very open to listening to the parents on what was not working well under the old management and working with us to find ways to fix it. My son is currently in the preschool class with Ms. Dede and Ms. Christina and he loves it. He gets sad on the weekends when he realizes that he will not be seeing his teachers and friends. When he was home during quarantine we connected with his teachers and messaged them throughout because he missed them. These teachers really became a part of his life and treat him so well. Because of COVID, things are harder now since I don't get to speak face to face with his teachers as often as I used to but they do their best to write tons of information into his tadpole reports and send home plenty of pictures and videos through the tadpole app. They also come to the front door to speak to me at pick up if he is the last in the class, or will pop their head out of the outside door of the classroom to speak with me if I have a question for them. They have taught him so much in preschool this year in just over a month and I look forward to seeing him grow and learn more as the year progresses. When he moved up from his discovery preschool class we were so disappointed to leave behind his last teacher Ms. Judy but Ms. Dede and Ms. Christina have been just as good. Infant has been a little harder to transition back to as the teachers in the infant classes are different than when my son went through there so I don't have a previous relationship with them. I rely a lot on the updates I get from Christina (management) when I pick up as she is assigned to help out in the infant class (the management gets assigned to different classes to try to limit the exposure between classes). I receive constant communication from her teachers giving me information on when she slept and how much she has eaten. She just started walking so I am now getting regular phone calls about the normal bumps all 11 month olds go through when they are learning to walk and fall down. The calls from Ms. Julie are always so pleasant and she makes me feel reassured that she is okay and keeping me informed so I am not worried if I see a little bump. I get pictures of her playing with different things in the class. And just the other day I received the cutest video of them showing her laminated leaves and teacher her the colors. They really do a good job of finding ways to instill learning even in the very young classes. It was really scary to send the kids back to daycare due to COVID, but there is no one that I would trust more than the team at this center to do everything in their power to keep all of these kids safe. I have never once even caught a glimpse of an adult (in the building or even outside walking to their car) not wearing their mask properly. Unfortunately, not being able to go into the classrooms, I cannot say what they look like but I know before COVID they were constantly cleaning and they would have a bin for toys that needed to be sanitized which they would add to during the day and not bring back out until they had been cleaned. We send in a clean blanket and mask every day to reduce germs and no outside toys are allowed in (even for their normal Friday show and tell) as they are reducing the germs everywhere they can. There are strict rules around returning to the center after being sick and take the kids temperature and ask the health questions every morning during drop off. My daughter just started daycare for the first time so I have no doubt that she will get sick several times this winter even with all of the precautions that they are taking (as she already has actually) but it has been so much less in the first 3 months in daycare than it was with my first child, which goes to show just how much they are cleaning (because lets be honest, babies have no immune system and put everything in their mouth so they are going to get sick).

First and foremost, the lack of communication from staff members was incredibly frustrating. Important updates regarding my child's progress or any incidents at school were nonexistent. There was no way to know what the children were doing all day at this daycare. They would not come home with any projects, homework, not even a piece of artwork in the month and a half we were there. Furthermore, the curriculum seemed outdated and uninspired. My child showed little enthusiasm for the activities provided, suggesting a lack of engagement and stimulation. It's disheartening to witness such a lackluster approach to early childhood education. Aside from the aspects of the education and staff, my child consistently had unusual episodes of accidents and vomiting that did not seem to be linked to any infection or illness. On the most upsetting occasion, during lunch time, my daughter had told a staff member that she needed to use the restroom and was told that she has to wait. She ended up going number two in her pants in the lunch room. She is 4 years old and has never had an accident as such since being potty trained at 2. She consistently told me that they would tell her she has to wait until after lunch to use the restroom. When I spoke to the owner, she was inconsistent with her story about the incident. Originally telling me that she never told anyone she had to use the restroom, then she speaks very quietly and they will have to work with her to speak louder, and finally that the teacher did come up to her and asked her if she had to go number one or number two and she said number one. As if whether she had to pee or poop would make any of this better. Fast forward one week and during lunch the staff member told her to finish her food, but she did not like it. She ended up throwing up instantly as I put her in my car after school and in tears telling me she didn't like the food she was told to finish. All of this could be over looked if I didn't reach out to SEVERAL other families in Livingston that had similar experiences and had left this day care as well. So far I have yet to meet someone who has something good to say about this day care. These are just a few of my experiences at this facility, which I have plenty more of. The owner also has a ridiculous policy to notify them one month in advance if you decide to leave or you lose your deposit. So basically, my child is miserable there and I have to force them to continue to go for one more month or we lose our deposit. Obviously I care for my child far too much to put her through any more of this. I was so upset over this entire experience I did not even bother to return to pick up my children's belongings leaving behind some clothing and slippers for 2 children. Just stay away, there are plenty of lovely and wonderful daycares, including Russian based day cares, around our areas to choose from. This place is very cold and not a pleasant experience for any child or parent.

Our child was incredibly blessed to have incredible teachers who loved and cared for our child during that time. Each classroom was truly filled with love and patience and I do not want the rest of this review to underscore those incredible teachers in my child's classrooms. With that said, As our child approached the age of 3, they received an autism diagnosis. The JCC metro west staff was notified of this diagnosis. 2 weeks after informing the staff of our child's diagnosis, our child was exited from the ECC program with less than 24 hours' notice. Regardless of the circumstances, giving a family less than a day's notice to find alternative childcare is incredibly disruptive and, in our experience, showed a lack of compassion and partnership. As parents, we trusted this program to work with us through challenges. Instead, we were left scrambling overnight to figure out childcare, work obligations, and next steps for our child. The emotional and logistical impact on our family was significant. What disappointed us most was not simply the decision itself, but how it was handled. Families deserve clear communication, transparency, and enough notice to make arrangements--especially when young children are involved. If your child has developmental differences or may require additional support, I encourage you to have detailed conversations about the program's ability and willingness to accommodate those needs before enrolling. Our experience left us feeling unsupported during one of the most difficult periods our family has faced. I hope the JCC reviews its policies and communication practices so that no other family experiences the same abrupt transition that we did.

Never before have I seen teachers/directors more equipped to support these young, inspired, and yes, sometimes fragile, little minds... and nurture them, helping them unfold into capable, honest, and self-aware individuals. In school, the children problem solve, support each other, and learn from one another, with the ever calm and present guidance of their teachers. Now, this is a play based school- one where play is the work of the children.... and through this socialized play, they develop everything a pre-schooler needs to know!
