I was finally able to stop in today while running an errand in the same plaza. To my delight, the line was short and quick on a Sunday morning. I got a box of donuts and a half dozen ran me shy of 6$ - very reasonable for the times. The donuts tasted light and airy while still having a wonderful crunch on the outside. The chocolate glazed was just the right amount of sweetness (I'm not a fan of overly sugary things)! I am definitely a fan of these donuts! Only docking a star because I found it strange that the cashier decided to withhold my change. It wasn't much so I didn't say anything but I thought that she should have offered it to me or told me she was out of change? Not sure but it rubbed me the wrong way. read more

I come here very often for the croissant breakfast sandwich which is absolutely amazing and my favorite thing to have in the morning with my coffee! Today I tried the new croissant maple donut and it is fabulous and after you eat that your definitely good till lunch! Golden donut! The people here are so nice and smile when helping you! Extremely disappointed. My husband went to get a dozen. I have extreme allergies to coconut, their buttermilk has a coconut based glaze now and it was about half the size they normally are. The little mexican girl behind the counter didnt know a cake donut from a regular one and gave us many wrong items he asked for specifically saying CAKE donuts. The fritter was so over sweet and neither of us could identify what flavor it was. Have they sold out to someone else??? It didnt taste or look like the Golden Donut I have grown up on. Owned and run by a friendly and hardworking family! They love their customers and their customers love them! It's easy to love when you put fresh donuts, a hot cup of Java, and some smiles together. Get here early. This place is well-known and has lots of frequent flyers. Donut holes are $1 for a dozen and you can order a breakfast sandwich too. I had a very bad experience here at the Golden Donut on Clark & Bradley on Friday, more than half my donuts were hard and stale, when I asked to speak to a manager I was approached by the owner Lynn, she was very rude and insisted that the donuts were fresh (which they were not), after a very rude interaction she agreed to replace my donuts but the ones she replaced them with were just as poor quality, I will never visit Golden Donut again, I suggest you guys take your business to Yummy donut!! read more

Live in Orcutt? Think Albertson's donuts are only fresh w/in the first 30 minutes of their debut at 3:30 a.m.? Then The Golden Donut is for you! Old school feel: cramped seating area w/ an omnipresent group of locals who seem to be a bit deprived of humor and laughter, but they never seem to bother anyone, though a few of them like to stare. But I digress . . . old school feel, juxtaposed by an Angor Wat-vibe that can only be attributed to the owner (I am guessing the Asian lady who is behind the counter). I have yet to chat with this friendly and gregarious lady, as I have always been served by 1 of the 2 teenagers that work here (owner's kids??) Anyway, we're here for the donuts: excellent! Not too greasy, freshness is always evident; excellent flavors that are not overwhelmed by sugars or frostings. They sell a 16 oz sized 2% milk carton, which makes me most happy! Used to be my favorite donut shop. The donuts are fantastic, but they have really tanked in terms of the quality of croissants. This is the 3rd trip that I've been given burnt croissants. Baked fresh, you can tell that the owners put a lot of love in what they do. There is no reason to try another donut place. I'm THAT satisfied. **UPDATE*** I finally got a donut! I bought two dozen this time and boy did they go fast! I managed to get half and I can understand the appeal! They're fresh donuts, really good, and I will be going back! :) I had one with cinnamon on it, and you could taste it. The donut wasn't dry at all and it wasn't over sweetened. Perfect donut, wish I'd gotten to eat the entire thing! **Previous*** I am sad to say that I did not get to eat any of their donuts, because my students devoured them like they were going out of style! I will definitely be coming back in the future and will update how they tasted then! :D Until then, I'm basing my rating off of the fact that the donuts were gone within two minutes so... That's pretty good evidence for me! (My students are adults btw, and had already eaten breakfast. Just saying...) read more

I stopped in for one donut at 6am before a local job, and was rewarded with a raspberry and cream cheese stuffed delight the size of a softball. Oh how I miss the Golden Donut!!! As a kid, we'd go to the Donut every Sunday after our paper route and get a donut. I loved coming here and interacting with the lovely owner and their kids. Now I live out of town, but on the occasions I come in, they still remember me! It's one of those, "crusty old men, sitting around, reading the paper, drinking coffee all day" types of places and it's adoreable. The little old men add to the atmosphere. I love that they have a permanent coffee cup that is kept there in a special rack for the locals. I didn't realize how unique their donuts are until I moved away. I didn't know that you can't get a chocolate chip pocket elsewhere or that no one else makes a cream cheese filled square and heaven help you find a cream cheese square with a strawberry swirl! They are delicious donuts that are consistently good. They do your regular classic bars, rounds, old fashions and holes, but I recommend one of the unique donuts I mentioned above. read more

Normally I would have given higher rating, but I had a frustrating experience here. I ordered med coffee and it being self serve I grabbed a cup and saw there was a vanilla nut coffee. I started dispensing and immediately got the sputtering air and spray of coffee signifying the coffee was out. Some old guy came out of the back and I informed him that the vanilla coffee was out. He looked at it for a few seconds and lazily said " ehh that's it for today". I was stunned that this guy was too lazy to make another pot. I just said Wow. It wasn't even 9am.
