I've been getting my nails done for a very long time and Golden File is the best place I've been. My dip nails last at least three to four weeks. I am not careful with them and they rarely break or lift. I'm not sure exactly what they do to make them stronger and last longer but they are fantastic! I also like that it feels open and bright. The tech I had was not very friendly. She refused to talk to me other than telling me to move my hand or whatever. Can't speak for the other techs but Kaylee is a no go. I've been going here frequently for the past year and will continue to be a frequent customer here! They're reasonably priced and capable of copying more complex designs and have a great selection of colors. I usually get dip manicures done and my last one lasted over a month and through a backpacking trip. I'm usually in-out in an hour or less which is really nice. Pedicures are fast here so don't expect a slow process. I usually get regular polish so I sit and chill in the chair afterwards. Every nail tech I've had has been friendly and attentive. Some are more talkative than others and that's okay with me. They have pricing menus available for review before you start so you can plan accordingly. Things like nail art, chrome, tips, etc., have extra charges which seems to be the norm. read more

Massage was lackluster and lasted about a minute per side. Didn't fully clean off the polish that was painted on my toes and disappeared before I had a chance to look at them.... Switched to this nail salon recently and have been decently pleased with the service. They actually are able to achieve the trendy designs I ask for and are a tinnny bit better at communicating than most nail techs I've been to. I'm never super happy with how they file and shape the nails though and will be more vocal about that next time. Once you sit down in the chair though they will not say a word to you until it's time to "wash hands, no soap." They do however talk and giggle to the staff around them in Vietnamese and that tends to make me feel very insecure and like their talking about me. The girls at the front desk can be a little snarky at times too and kinda made me feel silly for asking questions. Pricing is fair, a little more than what I used to pay...and they seem to upcharge for a lot so be sure to look out for that. Also if you don't tip, you're basically the enemy. Took my daughters for their first ever nail salon experience and were treated like an inconvenience. They did not speak to any of us. Once we sat in the chair it seemed like their goal was to get it done as fast as they could to get us out of there. My 9 year old's nails looked like I did it myself. The person doing her manicure and pedicure did the bare minimum and was gone before I could even look at my daughter's nails. As soon as I was handed the bill the people were gone. I got myself a pedicure and was suppose to get a manicure. I was handed a bill and there was no one to ask about my own manicure. Got my nails done here for homecoming! Nice place but I kind of felt like it was overhyped. I got my nails a medium length and they charged me $5 for "extra length" I did expect my bill to be higher than usual at my other spots because I got gems on them and all of that but I just felt like it was really expensive for what I got. They also weren't filed on the sides so some of the acrylic was hanging off and onto my finger, the shaping could've also been better. **Update** Changed from 4 stars to 5 for a couple of reasons. My SNS/dip lasted over 3 weeks and the only reason I came in today is because I'm traveling for the next week. None of my nails chipped or cracked, at all, in 3 weeks. Three nail salons? Yea, three. I do SNS/dip powder and my nails kept breaking off within a week or two. Maybe my old spot was magical or something because my SNS nails lasted a solid 3-4 weeks before. At the other places I could tell my nails weren't going to last and the pedicures were absolute shit jobs. Golden File did a QUALITY job on my hands and my pedi looks so clean. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is bc there are a few tiny bubbles in a couple of my nails. We noticed some in the nail salon and she was QUICK to fix the issue. My daughter and I went for pedicures. Our appointment was at 5pm and we were in our car at 5:24pm!! We were rushed through like being on a conveyor belt! The nail tech came and got us, no interaction with us, other than the two of them non-stop laughing and looking at us. It was very unprofessional and weird. this was my first time at golden file, and overall it was great! I booked an appointment ahead of time for me and my friends and they took us right away. All 4 of us were done in an hour. Something to note- tips are cash only. They have an ATM in the lobby though. There are so many nail techs, and lots of tables for the customers. Hi ... I have been going to Golden File for a number of years .. because I was content with the service ... BUT ..... My most recent apt there will be my last unfortunately.. I have seen Vu every time... My last visit I was going in for a wax and a fill ... and They had me switch chairs in and out of chairs and into the wax room like 4 different times before seeing Vu ... it was visibly uncomfortable for me to be treated like that... like I was an inconvenience ... I felt not valued as a customer.. I went to The Golden File on Monday October 23, 2023 in Jenison, michigan with my 2 daughters (because of the student discount) daughters got nails done fine. I wanted a pedicure. Here is my experience; the lady seemed upset that I didn't want shellac on my toes nails first (try to push it on me) i said No (3 times).Then says she needs to charge me for 2 toes that she needs to remove my old nail polish on being very pushy. I said nevermind i'm not getting my toes done and go to leave, she puts her hands on me and told me to stay. I was so upset. The salon only offered me to get someone else. No apology. Let me start off by saying when you go to a place that charges top $ in GR you have expectations. And customer service is at the top of that list. Unfortunately this place has no customer service skills and their nail techs need to take the time to get some more education. If I wanted a sloppy job with nails looking like shovels I would have asked my 12 year old niece. The tech had about 10 layers of acrylic and probably another 4 layers of shellac on the nails. I came here with my daughter to get her a full set with shellac and walked out with the most unaesthetic nails I could have imagined in my nightmare. I didn't say anything not to hurt my daughter's feelings but after 2 days when the nails started lifting I called the salon. The salon agreed for us to come back and redo the nails. Long story short after the redone they handed me a check to pay FULL PRICE. I explained myself very politely that 1 we agreed on the phone that we are coming back for a redo and 2 this job was so bad I will not be paying again. The manager got called who told me he is calling the cops. I didn't argue and waited for the cops to be called in. At the end of the day my husband called in and paid them and told me to never go there again and just forget the whole experience as a bad dream. I have had my nails done consistently by different salons in California and other places and I have never experienced such unprofessionalism and rudeness anywhere. I would stay away from this place. I started going here because they used to be one of very few place in metro GR that offered dip powder. I am allergic to gel and acrylic nails. I still drive from downtown GR and will not go anywhere else. No matter who I am scheduled with, they do an amazing job. I typically get the gold pedicure with shellac and am always pleased. I do get dip powder on occasion and I did have an incident where it was too thick and bumpy and they redid it free of charge and it was perfect after the redo!! I have been here several times. I have had amazing service and I've had not so amazing service-but you will find that anywhere you go and that is not the owners fault. The last time I was there previous to this time my little sisters nails were messed up, she was too scared to speak up so I did and the owner graciously came over and fixed her nails and made them look amazing. I have been twice where I was 100% satisfied out of the 4 times I have been here. I think finding the right person for you at a salon is the key important piece to loving a salon; I have found her. I went in yesterday 3/6/21 and had booked an appointment with My/Mi(not sure how she spells it) she went above and beyond to match the picture I presented, made them look absolutely amazing, and to top all that off she stayed a half hour late to finish my nails. This is the second time Mi has done my nails and the second time I have loved them. The atmosphere is so upbeat, friendly, and and silly. I love that the employees have fun while they are at work, makes me know they are being treated well. All in all I would recommend this salon, if you do not love your nails say something before you walk out, they are always more then willing to fix a mistake which means a lot to a paying customer. I have been to many salons and a lot of people do not like that I am so picky, Mi took her time asked if I liked them with each step, and took the time out of her day to make me feel amazing. I got a shellac manicure and shellac pedicure and was out the door by 11:00. So a mani & pedi in 30 minutes. The lady never talked to me unless she needed me to do something. I got my mani first and when it was time for my pedicure, she had me stay at her nail station, started the water at the pedicure bowl, came back and said "okay let's go, come on" and rushed away. Someone next to me was at the pedicure station BEFORE I was and when I was getting up to leave, she didn't even have polish on yet. So to say my lady rushed, is an understatement.
