We were staying just down the road and this was clearly the best of the local eateries, so we booked a table for 6.45pm. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but that soon changed.
We shared a starter of ahi tuna, with a sauce so tasty we had to ask for teaspoons till we could finish it off. Herself next cost the market fish, which on this day was grilled snapper; I chose the vegan option, the Sichuan soya mayo tofu, which was a real taste sensation, although the sauce was quite spicy. Herself reported that the fish was perfection on a plate.
Being a little stuffed after that lot, we decided to share the dessert of champagne poached pear, rounding things off very nicely.
The wine was a peregrine saddleback pinot grigio from the Queenstown region, crisp and refreshing.
Apart from a rather noisy family at the next table, this was definitely one of the best meals we've had in NZ. read more
