One of my favourites in this neighbourhood, nothing I like more than local business. And this coffee joint with its hipster vibe checks every box that makes it fit in this Toronto neighbourhood. Winter time of year you are limited to coffee, but when summer comes around you have gelato, or coffee drinks, now I won't lie, the Gelato isn't authentic but it tastes good and gets the job done on a hot day. Hopefully this local neighbourhood business comes out of the lockdowns on top. read more

This place actually surprised me with the setup and the quality of drinks here. I have never ventured out in this part of town so didn't know what to expect when I was walking here. They are priced very well and all the posted prices are inclusive of taxes. The setup is modern yet cozy (the bar area reminded me of Dark Horse) The Barista is quite friendly and the cups are kept warm the way the it should be. I asked for Cappuccino with an sweetener no problems there. The espresso shot had slightly burnt taste but it mellowed out. Decent Latte art over all 3.5 Stars for the Cappuccino. Surely recommended if you are in this area. P.S. They didn't have the AC and the interior was quite hot on a nice sunny day. read more

I have always genuinely enjoyed spending time at the Good Neighbour but am very frustrated by their refusal to open their bathrooms to customers. I'm happy to comply with wearing a mask indoors, waiting in a long line outdoors, and only being able to sit outside. But no bathrooms? This makes no sense considering they are single rooms, down a hallway, far away from the baristas and the 3 people allowed indoors at a time. If you are serving predominantly liquids, you should open your bathroom, especially considering the nearest business is a 5-10 minute walk away. The cafe also does not appear to wheelchair accessible so it appears to me that they are only catering to a specific clientele. read more

The Good Neighbour is an independent gourmet cafe that was established and is being run by a husband and wife team. The place get top marks because it accomplishes what it set out to do: Offer great coffee, provide a comfortable and relaxed neighborhood atmosphere that's like a second home, and plus contribute to the vibrancy of the neighborhood itself. Let's start with the coffee. Every cup is prepared with care--using proper beans and equipment--by expert, unpretentious staff. The beans change based on seasons, so there's nuances to the flavor. It's just simply a good, proper cup of coffee. The cafe itself was a labor of love for the owners. They painstakingly restored the building which recently housed a sketchy corner store. Layers of drywall, do-it-yourself renovation additions were removed to expose brick walls and wooden floors. Almost every piece of furniture, fixture and art was sourced from various local artisans in the Junction neighborhood where the cafe is located - Giant wire spool from the local Hydro company turned into a coffee table; Wood from the lanes of a local bowling alley turned into the counter; Light fixture created by the local electrical guy. The fireplace is a big hit during the colder months. The pastry is tasty. They found a former Parisian pastry chef who moved to Toronto to supply the daily treats. Fresh paninis are in the plans, but not available yet. Finally, here's my favourite feature of the cafe - the front stoop. There are these three steps that lead you up to the cafe that are as wide as the storefront. I love to get my coffee, sit on the stoop and just watch the folks stroll up and down Annette Street. Torontonians love their outdoor patios, but I gotta tell you that I would take a stoop to sit on any summer day. Make sure you bring cash as they don't (yet?) take debit or credit. Overall, the cafe is worth the visit if you like the Junction neighborhood, want an awesome cup of coffee in a beautifully relaxed place without the too familiar hipster attitude. read more

The staff here are always super friendly and I'll often see them chatting with regulars. The drink I get most often here is the medium coffee with comes with a huge mug. The best way to start a day. They serve a full range of drinks and I've come to really like their drip coffee, their cappuccinos and their lattes. I've been disappointed by their americanos however and the almond milk latte they serve was too sweet for my tastes. My friends like the almond milk latte on the other hand. They have a big selection of croissants, muffins and pastries which go perfect with a nice black coffee and the two can be enjoyed in a variety of different settings at The Good Neighbour (TGN). The cafe has some bar seats facing Annette Street that look out through the huge front windows, a large common table with many stools all around it, a set of four leather chairs around a small wooden table next to a fireplace, and lastly a set of standard chairs and squats tables lining the middle of the seating area. A new addition to TGN this summer was their summer patio which despite being on a awkward slope, is enjoyable with a nice choice for the tables and chairs. Cute spot, very very busy on a weekday midday. Mocha latte w oat milk was very good, stayed hot for a very long time which is always appreciated in the colder weather. Yogurt parfait was surprisingly delicious - and a good amount for the price! My favourite cafe these days! I recently moved near the junction where I found this hidden gem. What a great cappuccino. They used to serve Chicago's very famous Intelligensia coffee beans but now they have started roasting their own beans. I absolutely loved it. Oh yes, their blueberry muffins are to die for. This is not a review about staff, quality of coffee served, this is about disrespect and poor level of service. I like coffee,  I'm not a coffee snob, but coffee served in paper cup should not be called coffee, much less espresso, cappuccino, latte or cortado. That is an insult to coffee culture and coffee tradition. You may as well to put coffee pot on the warmer plate for hours and serve it with whitening powder. Last few years were horrible to go anywhere for coffee. I started to carry my own cup, but even that was refused in many places. There is no mandate to serve coffee  in plastic, paper or Styrofoam.  It is also not the best decisions for environment. As per the employee in the Good Neighbour Espresso,  that was the owner decision.  I usually do not write nasty reviews, I just walk away, but unless I do, nothing is going to change. It was my first visit and it will be my last visit unless things change. The service shortcomings do not stop at paper cups. To have to ask for sugar, cream, milk even a napkin is just ridiculous. I have a pretty good espresso machine at home, so I  do not depend on anyone. Sometimes I just want to meet a friend in a nice place for a cup and I expect to be treated like a customer and not to follow some arbitrary decisions the owner makes. I would like to get the owner feedback, but will get my caffeine fix elsewhere. Visited in Nov 2022. read more

I love supporting local businesses, and went out of my way every time I was in the neighbourhood volunteering to have a drink here. I appreciate their commitment to environmentally conscious ways of serving food and drink (paper straws, drinks in glasses and cups, plates, etc.) But to tell you the truth the coffee is just OK, and the service is very subpar. I expect a certain friendliness from neighbourly spots, and especially as this establishment has "the good neighbour" in its name, you expect welcoming faces. The barista/person at the cash register 9/10 times seems bored and/or condescending, unhappy to take my order, let alone neighbourly. I wanted very badly to make this my go-to local coffeeshop but I'm done. There isn't really anything enticing me to return to this place. read more

I popped in for the first time this morning with a client of mine. I was short on change so I had to use their debit machine. I stood at the counter, and ordered a coffee and a cookie. I could not figure out how to avoid the "tip" screen, and was surprised to even see a tip screen to be honest. After a few attempts I was forced to ask the cashier how I could do this. The cashier was clearly not impressed based on her disapproving body language, and general air, she mumbled "Oh no tip, not another one of these customers" she then turned to her co-worker and rolled her eyes. I was floored, I felt totally put on the spot, and chastised, I could not believe my ears. I said "what am I tipping for, I am getting a coffee and a cookie, I am not at a restaurant ordering a meal where the service will continue on for 1-2 hours" I continued, "also I should not be put on the spot and made to feel uncomfortable because I do not feel a tip is appropriate in this circumstance" If you can actually believe this, the cashier had to nerve to continue escalating the situation while other customers looked on; suggesting a small tip was in order. I have one word for this situation WOW! How unfortunate, I really would have liked to return to this place but I feel way to uncomfortable now. P.S I waitress-ed all through college and I have never worked harder since! For the record I am an excellent tipper. I know how it feels to make peanuts and live off tips. In my humble opinion ordering a coffee and a cookie from a cashier pales in comparison. read more

I hesitantly entered The Good Neighbour Espresso Bar, feeling as if I was cheating on my favourite coffee shop, Crema, which is located just down the street. The feeling evaporated when I drank their Americano and realized there could be two great coffee shops within a stones throw. I prefer the Good Neighbour for Americano and coffee. The space is stunning and comfortable, very relaxing and low-key. They have panini's featuring local Pingue prosciutto and other delicious sandwiches. I gave this place 5 stars after my first visit. That review was based on the latte and chocolate croissant that I had, but more so on the design and vibe of the place. I still like the Good Neighbour..a lot...HOWEVER- Only for the coffee and atmosphere. I went back twice after my initial review. The first time back was for their Gelato that they advertise very openly on their windows...but there was no Gelato in sight. Apparently the freezer was broken. Disappointed. The second time was to try their paninis. I was really excited for this. I have had MANY paninis in my life...and this was probably the worst. I so badly wish I was exagerating, but I am not. I would rather have one of those frozen dinner paninis. The bread was like a soggy bun. I'm pretty sure it was frozen and they just shoved it in the oven. Some pieces of chicken were warm and some were cold. I can't stress how bad this "panini" was. If you want a great cup of coffee, a really chill atmosphere and maybe a little snack, I definitely recommend The Good Neighbour. But please don't come here for lunch or dinner because you will not be happy. read more

This is a lovely space with a nice vibe, tucked away on Annette St. I'm really not down with the glass beer mugs for the medium and large coffees, though. I'm also not sure why a Toronto coffee shop would need to use and sell Intelligentsia beans with so many excellent local roasters. read more

I'm one of those few Junctionites who despite loving the coffee/snacks of Crema is not as impressed with the crowded interior. Also, bitter Americano's, yeah, I said it, sorry guys. But at the Good Neighbour I'm embraced by a smooth, rich delicious Americano and have a choice of tasty Tealish teas, solid daily brews (which Crema also lacks) and everything is now available iced, perfect for these constant 30+ days of heaaaat. The seating is varied and I don't feel like a hog with my computer, I can sit by the windows or take up a small table or crowd around the former electrical wire spool table in the corner. The butter tarts are generous and rich, but the pecan ones with chocolate shell have a bit of a burnt taste to them, I prefer the classic. I'll definitely be tasting as many pastries as I can before I make a full judgement on them, but so far, so good. Now if only they had panini's, I'd be here way too often.... read more

Walked in, was told coffee wasn't being brewed at the moment. But before I could get irritated, I was offered an Americano instead, which would be cheaper (???). So I went with it. Turned out to be great, and the ambience is very nice. We looked out the window while it snowed and talked about how we were going to give this place a good review on Yelp. Then we spoke about how we want to own a coffee shop like this one day. Service was good. The girl smiled a lot - thanks for all the smiles. Sometimes my girlfriend does this annoying thing where she orders something, and then asks if she can return it for something else, because she didn't realize what she had initially ordered was something she wasn't going to like. So she did that, but the barista was very understanding and swapped the old with the new, without a grimace or a complaint. Thanks again. 4/5 read more

Came back exactly a year from my original review. I was happy to find the place looking exactly as I remember, with outstanding espresso, cozy seats all around and easy going staff. I tried a few of the baked goods this time around and particularly loved the croissant. Prepared the way it should be : a crunchy crust, soft and tasty inside. Awesome! I spent a very enjoyable hour here on a mild early fall Friday morning, sipping a medium black coffee, eating a good size brownie, reading and checking my email. I was served quickly by a friendly staffer and grabbed a seat by the front window. The place was busy at 10:30 AM, but still had some room. I moved to an outside table under an umbrella when I realized it was pretty hot inside for my taste. My coffee was delicious (I didn't think to ask the name of the bean/blend), as was the brownie, which was rich and chocolatey as it should be. The price was competitive with other eateries in the area. I didn't stay inside, but it struck me as inviting and cozy. The washrooms are clean, tidy and well lit. The patio area was quite nice. I was comfortably seated, with a few other folks for company. I was reminded of pleasant, relaxing visits in Niagara-on-the-Lake, except for the busy traffic on Annette. :) The free WiFi was fast and reliable. I do wish I had tried the GNEB before this as I'm often in The Junction. I will definitely be returning and will try some of the other stuff on the menu. read more

Been living around the corner for a year, and finally got a chance to visit this local coffee bar. Love it. But I guess I'm a sucker for exposed brick and wooden tables. Although it's cozy, there's lots of seating, including leather arm chairs, two bar tables by the window, patio in the summer, and a communal table in the middle. Free wifi, so made a perfect place to do work for a few hours. I didn't see any outlets though. They have a wide array of coffees AND tea choices like lattes etc. But ALSO matcha green tea latte (yummm), and all sorts of milk options. Gelato in the summer, so I can see this place being crowded then. Also serves a light lunch with sandwich and salad choices (gluten free and vegan). Their pastries looked mighty yummy too. Will be back whenever I can. Except around 3-5pm. I encountered a gaggle of high school kids that were hanging out here until 5pm loudly gossiping about their current crushes, hygenie habits and the latest snapchat video. When they left, the place felt like a weight had lifted and was so serene, I could have stayed for hours. There's tons of free parking on Annette and on the side streets. read more

Great cortado. I'm assuming other espresso-based drinks are good. Pretty good crema and nice latte art. Good job on espresso-milk drinks. No raw, brown or cane sugar at their sugaring station, only white, available from a canister and in packets. Also sweeteners for all your aspartame and sucralose needs. Pretty decent chocolate chip cookie, just a bit hard. Pretty fast and reliable wifi. Environment is comfortable and conducive to working. Large communal table is on wheels and somewhat wobbly. Not many electrical outlets but there are a few. The design is quite nice and homey feeling. I like the wood, concrete, metal accents, and the mirror with shutters in the larger washroom. They also have a fireplace with leather chairs. Wish I sat there as there was an outlet there too. Pretty busy but quiet enough most of the time. Mostly people on computers when I went. They use Tealish loose leaf tea and have a pretty big menu (at least 6). I ordered a white tea and I think that the water may have been too hot and burned it as it tasted quite bitter. Cheaper than the downtown cafes. Lots of free parking nearby. It's quite the drive for me but I can definitely see myself going out of my way to return here sometime. read more

The Good Neighbour is a great spot for a cup of coffee or espresso. They also serve bagels/pastries and gelato/ice cream. Also, if you are not into coffee, they serve tea. Recently I had an unsweetened tea they made to be served as iced tea. It was delicious, and a perfect summer drink. This place has a nice patio and cool interior space. It is best to come here in the mornings or after lunch, as the pastry selection dwindles later in the afternoon. The service is friendly as well. Street and bike parking are available, but both are somewhat limited. read more

Super place. Staff are friendly and efficient, my extra shot latte is strong and milky, scones are amazing. I don't mind sitting on a stool at the window. Okay the patio is open so it is great again. I tried the beef sandwich, which is nice and salty, and the iced coconut vanilla latte. My friend had an iced mocha. It was so good after our walk. There were three baristas on so it was pretty fast. Yummy latte, tho they had run out of decaf so I was a little twitchy a half hour later ;) Also had a delicious chèvre tea biscuit which was fresh and sizable. A good friend moved up to the Junction recently & this has quickly become a new favorite. The space is very welcoming - with huge windows spanning the front & a cozy wooden interior. The service has always been friendly - I got a bird drawn in my foam the other day! - I haven't had a chance to try their panini, baked goods, or gelato - but I'm sure that day will come. They are also a new addition to the new edition of the Indie Coffee Passport, which will definitely bring them even more traffic. read more
