Crispy, not greasy, and it was cooked perfectly (not rubbery). Dislike the dipping sauce (it has somewhat sour taste to it). 2. Chicken coconut curry. Juicy and crispy chicken bites. Dipped in some sort of tamarind-mix sauce? Sauce is quite good, even tho the overall flavor profile is not balance (sth is quite overpowering). 3. Atlantic halibut. Best dish among the 3. Visited the Good Son at Don Mills for a birthday dinner this weekend. With reservation we were given a cozy corner booth for a group of 7. The restaurant has a modern vibe with a dark library look. The restaurant has a number of gluten free options which made it perfect for our group. The appetizers were okay with the potato shrimps and steak skewer being the only ones worth the order. We ordered 3 different pizzas with 6 slices per pie. Each were delicious and the crust was thin with a bit of crunch. One of the best gluten free crusts we've had in the Toronto area. Note: if you plan to take a cake, ensure it's included on your reservation and hopefully you're informed that this restaurant charges $5 per person to slice/ plate the cake. The restaurant takes you into kind of like a Gatsby era a bit from the decor on the wall and lighting. The server was very friendly and nice however not sure if they took order incorrectly or if the kitchen cooked it wrong but my steak at first was called well done when I asked for rare. Really really enjoyed everything we ordered here! We love it so much that we've been going pretty regularly. The burger with fries and any pizza on the menu have become our staples! The best day to visit is on Wednesday for their pizza special! Really can't go wrong with any you can order. I love the texture of their dough which is wood fired nicely with fresh ingredients. I tried the hand cut fries, pizza (Pesto Funghi) and the carrot cake. I did some digging to see what people recommended and I think they were spot on. This restaurant came highly recommended. Unfortunately, it did not impress. Family of 4. For starters we ordered the Calamari as well as the potato wrapped shrimp. Calamari was a very small portion, not seasoned, although the accompanying sauces was nice. The shrimp dish was ok but bland, although the 'slaw underneath was tasty. My Daughter ordered the $55 Steak-Frites (mid rare) - (10oz) steak was small, overcooked and under-seasoned. Definitely not a $55 steak dinner. We had 3 Pizzas. 1 with Burrata cheese which my wife enjoyed. 1 with cheese and onions that my daughter enjoyed. I had the Carnivore pizza. When it came, my heart sank. There was a minimal amount of meat on it but worse, the entire middle of the pizza was a wet, soggy mess of dough. I couldn't pick it up as it was so soggy, it just collapsed. I had to use a knife and fork and even eating it, it was just soggy wet dough with sauce and cheese on it. Super disappointing. My wife has been here a number of times and likes it. Me? This was my first time- I was super excited to come here after the rave reviews from my wife -I wont be back, its overpriced and the food isn't good, especially for the small, under seasoned portions. Parking out front is rare, but there's a parking complex 5 minutes away. Vegetarian options available for winterlicious menu and regular menu. Apps: roasted peaches & greens was eh, but I'm not a fan of fruits in salad. But the brussel sprouts were FIRE!! A thousand percent it's a MUST ORDER EVERY TIME. Main: natalina pizza was standard for a wood oven pizza. The mushroom pappardelle was a delight. The noodles were al dente and truffle oil was a nice touch. Dessert: carrot cake x2. My girlfriend raved about it for months then doubled down by ordering the same dessert twice. Let me tell you - carrot cake definitely did NOT disappoint. FOOD (4/5) We ordered the Blueberry Pancakes and the Spicy Soppressata pizza. The blueberry pancakes are really fluffy and light. The shrimp tostada was prett6 ordinary but still tasty. The patatas bravas was really delicious and comparable to patatas bravas at tapas bars such as Bar Isabel. AMBIENCE (4/5) The interior has a bit of a modern take to a tavern meets home library. Decor was a but rustic with a bunch of clocks, paintings and books around. Nice and spacious that could be great for groups. There is a patio available as well. SERVICE (5/5) Our server was super friendly, made great recommendations and was not overly pressuring. We enjoyed our time there and was not rushed at all even when it started getting busier. VALUE (4/5) They have pretty typical brunch prices for most dishes and the food was really tasty. When you walk into this restaurant the decor stands out because it is so unique. It is so inviting, eclectic and cozy. The service is always nice and friendly which sets a great foundation for a nice meal. I've only been here for lunch but 1) cocktails are amazing 2) starters are unique and fresh 3) pizza's are killer. Recently had a good meal at The Good Son with some friends. Was seated promptly without reservations on a weekend outside to enjoy the weather. I think it helps that they are tucked away from the central square, so it is relatively quiet and peaceful. I had the seared ahi tuna and the spaghetti diavolo. The seared ahi tuna appetizer is large enough to share between two people. I liked that the dressing wasn't too overpowering and the shredded diakon brought some texture to the dish. I like seafood pastas, and their spaghetti diavolo was delicious. Large shrimps in a tangy tomato sauce with the perfect al dente spaghetti. I liked that the dish came piping hot so it didn't cool off quickly. If you are going to sit in the patio during the late evening, be prepared to dodge the sun as it may be right in your eyes while the sun sets. read more

Pretty good stop for brunch, lunch, or dinner! We've come several times including during Summerlicious and their Wednesday pizza night specials which is a lot cheaper than their normal price pizzas. The food was always good and they provided substitutions when requested. An example was at brunch - my friend ordered a burger and requested a fried egg on top which they were able to oblige. The service is also great. The one time they got one of our pizza orders wrong, they were quick to fire another one to replace that pizza at no extra charge. You can make reservations ahead of time which helps keep the stress off of getting a table. The restaurant has that old established library of antiques kind of feel to it. I did joke to my friend that it's a lot easier to decorate with that vibe since all you need is old stuff. We saw a bunch of people taking aesthetic pictures by the back wall of stuff. There's a lot of interesting seating as well including a tucked away round booth that has its own wall and loungey tables with wide low backed chairs that make you feel like you should be sitting back and sipping whiskey. First visit on a Saturday morning around 1139am for lunch. It's located in Shops at Don Mills and took over the old Linda Thai restaurant. I love the vibe and decor of the restaurant. It was clean and there was a patio available. We sat inside the dining room. The food was good and really enjoyed it. For drinks, I ordered a latte ( they don't have any specialty espresso drinks with fancy latte art), my hubby got the Americano and the kids got pop. The younger one ordered margherita pizza $17.00 (which he loved) and my older child ordered The Cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms for extra $3.00 & $4.00 respectively. The burger with fries was $22.00 I had the shrimp tostada for $21.00 - it was tasty and light. There was about 4 to 5 shrimps pretty good size. My hubby had the eggs Benedict for $24.00 They had about 3 very cozy private dining areas for a small party log about 5 people. The staff was friendly. This is always a go to spot when I'm at shops at don mills. The food is always tasty and service is friendly. I came here with a group of friends on a weekday night and it wasn't too busy. We got the Mauna Loa pizza to share with the scotch bonnet flakes on the side as some of us don't like spicy food. For my entree I got the cheeseburger with bacon. The burger is great as well and the sauce that comes with the fries is amazing. I also got a sweet mocktail made by the choice of the bartender and found it really refreshing. For dessert we had the carrot cake and gelato. Everything tasted really good and I was definitely stuffed by the end of the meal. With a wonderful ambiance and an interesting menu, the 4 of us(2 couples) we looking forward to dinner tonight. unfortunately poor and unsympathetic service ruined it for me. As appetizers we ordered a sourdough bread for the table(goof not great). I also ordered the shrimp lettuce wrap(Which was a no show). A the main meals, I had the salmon (a little salty) which was an excellent cut as it was not thin and overcooked I have had to often in restaurants. we also ordered the burger and 2 different pizzas. Everybody's main course was good. When the main meals came we asked about the lettuce wraps and our waitress was like a deer caught in the headlights. Since when we ordered it she said it came with 3 wraps and do we want to order a fourth for the table, so there was no doubt she knew about it. When came back [a few minutes later and blamed it on the printer, no real apology just more like a "oh well, it is the printers fault". We were not even offered a complimentary coffee, and to top it all off, the waitress says "i will take it off the bill" All 4 of was were aghast she would even contemplate charging us for something that was never delivered. The manager Joe is always so sweet and always checks up on us every time we come. Getting agreement on a central meeting place for a group social is always a challenge. But we did it...patio included. The Good Son (with 2 Toronto locations) is a new venue for five of us. Still, our server Nicky was friendly and patient. In the TGS kitchen is a wood-fired oven to roast items and cook pizzas. Intriguing menu items include a Seared Ahi Tuna, Orange & Fennel Salad, Kabayaki Salmon, Bulgogi Short Ribs, and a variety of pizza choices. Three of us ordered a Moretti lager to drink, others had fancier drinks while we dined on Cheeseburgers, a Margaherita pizza, Carnivora pizzas, and a Capricciosa pizza. Then dressed with an Asian infusion of sauces, red chillies but balanced with a Mediterranean touch of balsamic sweetness. Yes, yes, yes! But that's not all. Napolitano pizza at its Toronto finest. The wood fired oven works it every night and pumps out beautiful margherita pizzas as well as a host of other options. Wait, there's more. They had a cured salmon appetizer special on the night we were there. The fish was perfectly prepared with a delicate tamari dressing. I also ordered the salmon main entree and it too was perfectly grilled on the outside with a subtle and soft centre, served on a wasabi purée of something and nicely griddled potatoes. Love the Wed pizza dine in special. The pizza dough is soft and chewy and just the right thin consistency throughout. We tried the prosciutto pizza, Mauna Loa and salmon entree. I came back with a friend to see if my great meal back in July was just a fluke. It wasn't a fluke. The food was consistently delicious again. It is a bit pricey as other reviewers have pointed out. But since I know a bit about how some of the food is prepared & how long it takes I think the price is justified. Accept it for what it is. If you're looking for cheap eats this isn't the place. If you're looking for a meal with well balanced flavours & good proportions (not excessive, not small) then this is the place. At least for me it is. How food tastes is very subjective. What I like you might not like. So please don't tell me I'm crazy for liking the food here & giving this place 5 stars. LOL Appetizer: Hand cut fries. The handcut fries were delicious once again. Not over salted. Best fries I've ever had. My meal: Mushroom Pappardelle without dairy (I'm allergic) & carrot cake for dessert. I loved the pappardelle it was so delicious. The sauce ended up being just oil & herbs which I was perfectly happy with. The portion size was perfect for me as well. I felt satisfied but still had enough room for dessert. Carrot cake was perfectly balanced. I could taste all the flavours: orange, nuts, a bit of cinnamon & nutmeg. But no flavour overpowered the other. I don't usually like carrot cake but this one is sooo good. It wasn't dry either. I think they might have poured a little orange glaze over it. Beautifully presented with edible flowers. Last time I was here I met the executive chef through a mutual friend. I asked our waiter to see if the executive chef could come out to talk to us. The chef is come out & he even remembered me & my name. He was very nice to visit our table. Water is refilled promptly whenever any waitstaff see your glass is getting empty. I really enjoy this place even if it is pricey. But since I won't be eating here every week I don't mind the prices. We asked to be seated inside since it was quite hot & humid the day we came. The decor inside is very nice, cozy. The air conditioning was on but it wasn't freezing which was nice. Some places jack up the A/C so much you have to wear a jacket inside. Anyway, they have a large patio outside too. The restaurant is one level so it would be easy for those with mobility issues. I didn't see any steps or tripping hazards that would be a deterrent for those in wheel chairs or the elderly who aren't steady on their feet.
