They had a lot of good women's clothes to look through but the experience was ruined when I interacted with a store employee. I waited around for when she was free to ask to look at some jewelry that was locked up. She then snapped at me and disrespected how I spoke. I almost didn't come here--the Goodwills I've been to in Boston have been so hideously awful I didn't think it would be worth the trip. But in fact, I scored big time. This place is huge and a majority of the clothing is clean and unstained. It's only organized by color, not by size--so I'll withhold the fifth star. Still, it's a fun place. The employees are sweet and walk around singing to the radio. They have a restroom and air conditioning. There is a small selection of stuff and books and a large selection of clothing. Of the several Goodwills I've been to around the Boston area, this is the best. I say this because it's right on public transportation (B Line), the aisles are fairly large, and best of all, it's not near the methadone clinic of the Boston Medical Center (like the GW HQ is). The place still smells like a used clothing store, but it's more of an airy environment. It feels like there's more space, though I know that it's smaller than the on by the BMC. The pickings can sometimes be a little slim, because of the college kids, but with $4 Banana Republic skirts waiting to be excavated, who can go wrong? read more

I stop into this store as a treat every few weeks, and always walk away satisfied. I've gotten books, cups, clothes, and more from their collection, including a side table that was exactly what I was looking for and priced at a mere $8. This store is more expensive than the Goodwill Stores in my home state of NH, but it's still the best deal around. To get the best deals, stop in often and just glance over sections, as the location and general population of the area (college students and other people with short-term leases) means that there's a lot of turnover and things also get snatched up quickly. I donate items here and also have been able to find a few hidden gems among the racks. The staff is very accommodating to large drop-offs, after a major winter cleaning I did. The items for sale are pretty typical for a Goodwill store - a lot you'd never ever consider and a few great pieces you can't believe are still on the racks. I got a vintage leather skirt for $10 there and some classic records that now serve as wall decorations for my room. Parking is tricky, there is never much space on the street. read more

Went back to Goodwill Recently and they re-did the entire store. The videos and cds are now in the front and the selection has become a lot smaller! Literally less than half of what they used to carry. There is basically only room for one person at a time to view them when before you could have like 6 people. I really do not like the new setup at all. There seems to be way more clothing and once again very little of anything else. Not sure why they chose this route but this was a very bad choice for a layout. read more

Awesome place for less-than-wealthy-students (and really anyone who isn't a germaphobe) to find furniture, apartment stuff, clothing, etc. I disagree with other commenters who say that it's very difficult to find good stuff--this hasn't been the case for me. On my last trip I picked up a plain white ceramic dinner set (in great condition and made in england so probably no lead paint), and some cups (also ceramic) with the bed bath and beyond price stickers still on the bottom---total expenditure: $3 For clothing, there are better thrift stores to go to, the garment district, for one, but for furniture, dinnerware, and strangely, shoes, this is the place. read more

I am SHOCKED to read people claiming this place is clean. Just shocked. Here's a story for you yelpers... one day I was shopping in the shoe section (where, by the way, I have scored some awesome Bandolinos and Steve Madden pumps that looked like they had never been worn) and was being chased by the putrid odor of sh*t. I thought to myself, some asshole is cropdusting the shoe section, gross. But then, I spotted it, a smear of poop on one of the blue bins. I about died right there, but then I looked beyond that, and there was a soft serve of human excrement sitting right there on the floor. Through tears and gasping for breath I found an employee and alerted them. He just sort of shrugged an ran to pick it up like it was par for the course and happened regularly in there. So, poop story aside, this place is not that clean, and not that organized. I still shop there for things not covered in feces, and have found some really good deals there on shoes, lamps, dishes, games, books, CDs, etc. So go here, bring purell, and watch where you step. read more

This is by far the best Goodwill I've ever been to. I've been to all of Boston's Goodwills, and also all of Los Angeles/Hollywood's Goodwills. This one is a gold mine. I still can't believe it. I got better stuff than I could have at any consignment store in Boston (except The Closet)...and for pennies on the dollar. I'm the kind of Goodwill shopper who shops not because I need something, but because I love the thrill of sometimes finding a $100 - $1000 article of clothing buried in the racks for just $5. And I like the randomness of the selection. But I'm very picky about quality...I only go for "like new"...so I usually find 1 or 2 items in a store at most, and spend $10. Today was my first visit to this Goodwill, and I spent more than $150! I got 3 blazers for $21 (a modern Hugo Boss, an Italian suit with super 120s fabric, etc.), 10 ties for $10 (including like new Saks 5th Avenue and Hugo Boss silk ties, and a vintage Yves St. Lauren), 3 jackets (Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, J Crew), and best of all--26 designer dress shirts (Ermenegildo Zegna, Ike Behar, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Emile Lafaurie, Tasso Ella, Banana Republic Selects, Brooks Brothers, etc.). These were not typical Goodwill condition clothes: no yellow collars, stains, frayed edges, obvious wear, or out-of-date designs. Almost all of the shirts were dry cleaned, and some still had original tags. My friends could not believe it. Most of them would never step foot in a Goodwill, but after seeing what I got today I think several of them changed their mind. I suppose that the quality of merchandise at Goodwills can rise and fall depending on the donations, but this Goodwill deserves 5 stars. I also appreciate that the store design, decor, cleanliness, and lighting is better than other Goodwills I've been to. It feels pleasant. I also like the Goodwill near the Ruggles stop/Northeastern U, but even though that location is much larger, the quality of merchandise is not as good. The Goodwill in Jamaica Plain is also pretty good, and it's right next to Boomerangs. read more

I have never been into a Goodwill store until I started working around here. One time I went in to look at a piece of furniture they had in the window display, it ended up having a sold sign on it, but I did end up walking out with very nice crystal wine glasses and some "new" bowls to use for my cats food! BUT... just the other day, I was walking by on my way to "Brown Sugar" (Um. Yum.) and I saw a dress in the window, with a hideous faux fur boa around it, it was near Halloween costumes, so I am assuming they meant it as a Halloween costume, anyways, I thought to myself, "that dress is GORGEOUS, but wait, I don't go into Goodwill stores for clothes, I am way too cool for that...." (-_-) On the way back from Brown Sugar, my coworker convinced me to go look at it. I looked at the brand it was a Jovani dress, A gorgeous hand beaded floor length gown, GORGEOUS..... Retail today is approx $1,900 --- The lady seemed surprised ringing me out that I was willing to pay $40 for it, maybe a bit over priced for Goodwill, but hi, its a two thousand dollar dress celebs wear, ill take it. 100% changed the way I feel about Good Will. I plan on going back EVERY SINGLE DAY.... maybe not everyday, but at least every time I go to Kanes or Brown Sugar for lunch :P read more

This is the single best Goodwill store I've ever been to, anywhere. While not always as organised as it could be, the women's clothing is full of awesome finds, and very few items cost more than $5. Things I've found here include some nice sweaters, a very pretty skirt, and a really funky vintage cotton vest! Some of the more high-end donations are separated and placed on their own rack, but there are treasures to be found all over the store. It's worth visiting often since the turnover-rate is high; in fact, if you find something you like for $5 at the end of the day and don't have a chance to try it on, it might be worth going for it rather than putting it back and gambling on it still being there the following morning. They have amazing books, DIY projects, renovating junk etc. the only downfall is I had to wait in line for 20 min. Only 2 cashiers available despite the fact there were a ton of employees there. A thrift store *returning* to Allston? Good going! There's nothing I like better than combing through the dollar book section looking for last year's bestsellers and e-bayable first editions from decades past. Sure, you've got to toss aside mountains of fad diet books, tattered copies of Sweet Valley High, and enough worthless book club editions to clog a landfill but sometimes you get lucky, and the hunt is two-thirds of the fun. oh . my . goat. This place is kinda place that I visited religiously - sorry - regularly. Definitely I go here once in a month. Usually only with 20-30 dollars in my pocket, I could bring home a lot of wonderful stuffs. I got banana republic coat, jc crew shirts, gap sweater, gap suede leather skirts, some shoes and some stuffs I forgot the brands, but they are cool and looks good on me. Probably because I'm almost always looked good on anything. Anyway, I don't mind working on some stitches or sewing some fabrics to cover stains, but after I finished doing it I feel proud like I finished creating something new. They have books and porcelains with really cheap prices too, so if I found something good here, feels like I've found a hidden treasure. HO HO HO! read more

I have wandered in here several times and am usually caught leaving with a bag of items I absolutely must have. This is a very clean, organized shop and seems to be well-managed. VERY polite staff members. And unlike Urban Renewals, there are dressing rooms. And they are clean! Great sound tracks all the time, too. The prices are on the high end for a thrift shop, but you are still getting a good deal in most cases, so quit your whining. Books, household items, games, records and some furniture are in the back of this huge space.Sometimes you find brand new items still in the box. They are very heavy on clothes here which are all organized by color not size. And watch how this place comes alive at Halloween, with costumes hanging all over the place. Clearly, they put things aside and pull them out for trick or treaters of all ages. And we are not talking cheap, mass produced plastic. polyester costumes, oh, no. There are some amazing outfits, some hand made, some vintage- and sized for all ages and all body types. The last time I was in here, October had arrived and their collection really blew me away. I was tempted to become The Little Mermaid, Cher, a gypsy, Wilma Flintstone, a disco queen, a chicken or Lady Gaga. A decision was reached but only after much convincing by a so-called friend. I'm not a huge fan of them having a "boutique" section (I don't need any hand-holding!), but honestly they pick out good stuff. I've never had to deal with the staff really, but I've only gotten compliments on what I'm wearing when they're ringing up my stuff. It's a Goodwill, guys. I once came here and saw a table and chair set from Ikea that was being sold for the same price Ikea was selling it for brand new. The table was kind of banged up too. I thought it was funny. I have noticed other items being sold for more than they're worth, but you just have to bargain. Other than that, it's Goodwill and you know what to expect from it. read more

It's not well organized as Newbury, of course. But the staff are busy and extremely friendly. If you have time, hunting for lost treasure is a good way to spend time and save money. Stopping by on their second day of business, i found some nice little things. they have a lot of new items leftover from other stores like tj maxx and filenes basement. a lot of up to date clothes (some goodwills are full of clothes from the 80s and 90s which are nice if you have a funky sense of style or want something for halloween...) but this one has a lot of clothes that you could get away with for work. You really need to have patience for this place. There's a lot of junk, a lot of dirty shirts and stuff that shouldn't even be considered to sell...but then again I've found a lot of great deals. If you're going in for something specific, I doubt you'll find it...but you'll probably find some treasures that you never thought you needed! As far as second hand goes, it's pricey. Has a dressing room and accepts credit cards though. I wouldn't drive- meters on Comm Ave are 25c every 15 minutes...I usually take at least an hour to pick through everything. read more

Why is it that every time I shop in a thrift store, I encounter the most RUDEST people? Today I went in to donate my clothes. One of the cashiers was busy with a customer and there was another woman behind the counter completely ignoring me for five minutes managing through clothes but she knew I was standing there looking at her. After giving them my donation, I went to look around the store. There was an okay selection of items. This place is filthy and I kept sneezing from all the dust. I went around to the area where the pillows were right next to the kitchenware and I noticed some backrest pillows in the bottom of this cart. So there was one small pillow, okay, ONE pillow that was on top of those backrest pillows. I moved it aside merely two inches away, still inside the cart of pillows that were there, so I could get a better view and touch what I wanted to look at. I didn't think they were worth it so I walked away. Then, this EXTREMELY RUDE employee who was 4 feet away comments, "Miss, can you put that back where that belongs?" I looked at him and nicely said, "Oh you mean this pillow right here? Okay, sorry." Then he starts yapping at me about how he just organized it and how I shouldn't be touching things if I'm not going to buy it and other crap. Sir, I work almost everyday in a retail store inside a MALL for crying out loud and never would I EVER go to a customer that rudely and start complaining like a cranky geezer. Sure, my bad for not putting that pillow back in its proper place when it was seriously okay where it was as I left it with the rest of the pillows, but SHAME on you for being so sassy and demanding when all you had to do was ask nicely. I don't care if you think you have this sense of entitlement because it's a shitty thrift store. I watch people ruin clothes that I neatly folded all the time and that I know I have to fix again but in the end of the day, that's retail! How the hell was I supposed to know if I wanted to buy the product if I didn't check it out. I've never shopped here but I donate frequently. It is one of very few places where you can drop off a donation anytime during their normal business hours and get a receipt. You can pull your car into the ally behind the store and knock on the back door to drop things off. Very convenient. read more

by far the best thrift shop in town...and i would know, as i love to thrift-shop. it is hit or miss sometimes, but it is quite often a big hit for me. cashmere sweaters, designer blazers, free people skirts, longchamps bag, dresses,designer jeans....u name it, i have bought it here. i get kind of giddy off of all the awesome scores i make at this location, and everything sort of ends up being 6 bucks a piece. you gotta dig through lots of ugly stuff,but the gems are definitely in there. the home goods and books are sort of lacking, but for clothing and random accessories, it's the best. plus the staff are super nice and recognize me when i enter,which is embarrassing since i go there waaay too much. read more

I went to this store for the first time yesterday. I feel like you have to shop with an open mind when in a thrift store. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but I found an elegant 100% wool dress from J. Crew for less than $10!! In addition, a cute off-shoulder white sweater from White House/Black Market, two J. Crew shirts and a super soft off-white cardigan. They have a lot of clothing, sorted by color, so you have to be patient and sift through everything. I'll definitely be back!! read more
