Super overhyped! Way too busy, can barely walk in there. For a store so hyped up the selection is very mediocre

I went into this shop last year and felt super lucky to have found it. The owner is clearly picky about what she accepts into her well curated shop. I'll be in the Boston are next week and will make sure to visit the store. Super cute area and street that it is located.

Apparently that still isn't enough for the owner to let three customers browse without hovering over them. She looked us up and down, seemed to judge the consignment-store bags we were carrying, and kept insisting on taking them even after I said I was fine. When I declined again, she laughed and said she was "trying to be nice." It felt like we were being watched because she thought we might steal something, while also being pressured to buy something to prove we belonged there. Then she asked where we were from. When we said California, she replied, "Oh, that explains it." The contempt was hard to miss. If you're going to judge people for where they're from and what bags they walk in with, at least spare them the fake friendliness. The attitude in this store was uglier than anything on the racks. I wouldn't spend a dollar here.

Prices for most of their items fit in the $15-$30 range. I thought the customer service was fine, helpful and nice, even. The only thing that perplexed me was the fact that a lot of the shirts in their femme section were altered into crop tops and I'm someone who would rather make that decision myself. Overall, the foot traffic was bumpin, it would be fun if Thrive hosted events in the space.

Everything is individually marked with prices. I saw that a piece wasn't marked, and I made them aware of it saying that they might want to add a price. I was trying to help them (someone could steal it since it didn't have a tag, they could claim it to be their own). I walk away and hear one guy say to the other "that kid was really obsessed with this not having a price on it." It doesn't sound so bad in writing but his inflection is noteworthy. Their clothing is overall way overpriced. Half of the stock is lame and the prices they write for them are absolutely whack. I don't know where they get these prices. I know it's on Newbury but c'mon my guy, get real. If you like vintage clothing, go to the Garment District in between Central and Kendall Square, or go to Boomerangs/Buffalo Exchange!
