I haven't been to this place since 2005 for a wedding. Tonight is a different occasion. It's my night to enjoy 80's, 90's RnB with a dash of Neo Soul. Candlelight Concerts was in the house. I got group A seating so I was Row B. The set list was awesome. The ambiance magical. The view from the 10th floor cool to see Fresno at night. Please look at my pics for the setlist. The way they pulled off Redbone by Childish Gambino. hmmmmm O-Kay clap, clap, clap because that was beautiful. I didn't have any drinks, but my priority seating included a picture. But here's the thing. It wasn't from a professional photographer. It was from a cell phone which the battery was on Red. So we had to use my phone & text it to her. I received a Polaroid picture. First time here. It is very nice venue for a small party. They had another wedding party at the first floor. We were in the 19th floor. They have parking across the building. Plenty of parking spots. It Very convenient. We walk to the venue. My friend's company Christmas party at this place. I got to see it from the inside. They had tables already set up. I believe whoever rents the venue is in charge of arranging everything. The tables and the chairs They also had a Christmas Background to take pictures. The theme was casino night so They had some casino tables already there. Since we were the first ones to get there we got the chance to seat front seat to al see everything. They didn't have any music so no dancing. I thought I was going to be able to dust the mites out but no. No chance. lol! It finished early. It was nice getting out of the routine and enjoy some time with my friend. So the venue it's small you can book it for a birthday party, baby shower party, or any ovation. Even for a divorce party. This is a great space. I have been here many times for banquets, weddings, high school dances. In this case, we came for a quince. I do have to say though it was really hot. Not enough air circulation was coming through the vents, they did have a huge fan that was aimed toward the dance floor. I am not sure if that was the people who put the event on or the venue, but hopefully that gets fixed. The last time I was at The Grand was when my friend's sister got married in 2002. I recently went back for a candlelight concert and I really expected a lot more candles. Concert was on the 10th floor. I thought they would have candles outside on the balcony as they were flameless, but they did not. The concert was okay. I scheduled an appointment to tour this venue the Saturday before Labor Day. I arrived early and tried to call the office. No one answered, and after waiting 30 minutes, I left. I reached out to them on Facebook, they said they emailed me to reschedule due to the holiday weekend. I received no emails, and yes, I had my email correct because I received the auto response from their website when I initially inquired. Furthermore, they called me to schedule the tour. Why didn't they call me to reschedule? Nonetheless, whoever I was corresponding with said they'd be in touch and follow up on the miscommunication on Tuesday (yesterday). I'm disappointed because I've wanted to view this venue for forever. I don't see myself moving forward with them due to the lack of organization and communication for a tour. Makes me wonder what mishaps could happen on my wedding day. It's just super disappointing. I understand accidents happen, but they'd really have to 'wow' me in order to move forward. Venues/weddings can be pricey, so it's hard for me to understand why they'd be so irresponsible with their scheduling. People pay thousands for venues. Just weird. read more

One star for the time my husband and I attended a wedding two weeks ago and the elevator got STUCK between two floors...with 17 wedding guests, including an elderly grandmother, children, and the wedding emcee...for TWO hours. Firefighters had to provide oxygen, water, etc. So, everything got postponed by two hours, including dinner. Eventually, the elderly grandmother was taken by EMT on a stretcher into the ambulance (that was right outside the windows with the red flashing lights reflecting into the building at exactly the same time the bride and groom made their first appearance). #awkward Shouldn't the venue have triple checked the elevator permits and made sure their elevators were working safely with a mechanical engineer present because they're the main venue for a 500-guest wedding reception?! I went to the wedding festival this weekend and an issue happened, the wedding venue messed up my email and sent me the incorrect time and I missed out on perks I paid for, I Was obviously upset the producer of the event didn't apologize she dismissed me, And that was an awful experience, But the employees at the grand watched what happened, And offered me their apologies & champagne trying to make the situation a little better for me... To be clear it was not at all the grands fault what happened, But being good employees and nice people they seen an issue and tried to resolve it. We had our wedding reception here and it was a very pleasant and elegant experience. When we were searching for venues, we wanted something elegant and Fresno has such limited venues. However, when we came upon this hidden jewel, we fell in love with the ballroom. Being a gay couple, we were told that certain venues can house the reception but not the ceremony or neither at all. When we called Liz and Amy at the Grand 1401, we were welcomed with open arms. They're such loving, caring individuals that not only cared about our event, but about our new little one as well! They supplied everything to ensure an elegant evening was to be had. They were very accommodating to our vendors and everyone of our guests raved about the ballroom. We had our wedding reception here. Just FYI, all other reviews discuss Liz and Amy being great. Well they did a bait and switch for us. When we signed up for The Grand those wonderful ladies were still there, and great to work with. However, before the wedding, they both left the company. The management left is business minded and have no regard for their customers. On my wedding day, my grandmother, aunt and nieces were stuck in an elevator for 2.5 hours. Management had to knock down a door to get something (not sure what) but we were told we might be charged for the damages. Turns out, their on site team didn't have the keys to this door. I'm not sure how that's our fault. Now you've hired elevator attendants, so clearly it was something management felt necessary but was not available for our reception. If I could have guided all my guests downstairs during my own wedding I would have to ensure the safety of my guests, but it was my wedding. I thought the wedding venue would handle that. My grandmother ended up in the hospital. No one ever apologized to us. I was crying at my own wedding, worried about the health of my family stuck inside the elevator. Our wedding went over the allotted time of midnight since it was delayed by 2.5 hours. The air conditioning shut down at midnight with no way to override the system. It was August, in Fresno. Many of the other vendors from that day have decided never to return to The Grand. At the end of the day, my family is ok and I married my soulmate. The venue is gorgeous, but do you really need the extra drama from management like this? We had a choice of many venues and trusted them to handle situations like this appropriately and professionally but they weren't able to. When we went to discuss the events of the wedding with their management team, they treated us coldly and threatened to charge us for damages. Trust me, it's not worth having such a special day be tainted in this way. If you don't like my post, if you think I'm not fairly discussing the situation, then contact us--The Grand and at least apologize. read more

The bride was very choosy and she did impeccable research on all her wedding vendors, and she was no less picky in selecting her banquet facility. The Grand 1401 is an elegant Wedding and Event venue located in what was formerly the headquarters of San Joaquin Power & Light. The Tenth Floor penthouse is one of the ballrooms, and the first floor is also a ballroom and conference center. Both spaces are renovated and have state of the art A/C and electrical systems. There are three elevators going up/down --- meaning you will be whisked up to the 10th floor promptly without waiting very long. The staff is outstanding, and you will get your money's worth from this place. Probably one of the best wedding facilities in the Fresno area, highly recommended! read more

Personally this building takes me away not just from Fresno but California to the 1920's New York. The Beaux-arts style of this building will amaze you the moment you step in. The lobby is coated with the finest marble, the ceilings are lofty, the finishing are the finest, from brassed doors to glamorous ceilings and the facilities are very well kept to the original history from when this building was built in 1923 for the San Joaquin Light and Power Corporation. I have been to many events here, and I have always been amazed and impressed with this place. They don't have their own caterers, decorators or florist, but they do have a handy list of Fresno's finest caterers, florist, photographers, stagers and Dj's. This place is without equal, its the most unique and outstanding place for weddings, birthday parties, graduation, prom and corporate events. The staff here would really make your events easy from the start to finish. Amy and Liz are truly helpful and genuine event planners. Rentals price starts at $1000 and above I believe, give them a call they are really friendly to work around your budget. The air-conditioning is state of the art, and their staff is really helpful to make sure your every needs is fulfilled. The only improvements I would suggest to the grand is that the toilets be kept white and polished. In addition this historic event centre could benefit from historic memorabilia or antiques from the building past. It would be exciting for those items to be enclosed in a glass case and placed in various places in the building. In addition, historic plaques could explain the historic value of this place. I had my wedding here on 11/09/19 and I booked t this venue because it is so beautiful and also because the staff was so Assuring that they would make it a memorable night for me. Well the day of my wedding, I had a few issues. I was told I would have the room upstairs available for me in the Grand Ballroom for me to be able to chanGe or touch up throughout my night, which I was looking forward to. That didn't happen. The next issue was that my guest count was 250-300 people and in the restrooms for my guests there was only 1 roll of toilet paper. I had to have guests go buy some and the restrooms were disgusting throughout the night and the people in charge of cleaning it did not keep up because this venue only hired 1 person to maintain both the women's and men's restrooms (I had 300 guests). Another issue is that I paid extra to stay an extra hour (11pm) and they were trying to kick me out by 10pm, which was causing confusion for my vendors such as my DJ & bar service because they were trying to stop serving and playing music. Also, the security guards hired to secure my event were sitting on the floor the last hour of my event (I had to pay them per hour). So although this is a beautiful venue, they have some things to work on. I feel I paid a lot of money for this venue and it disappointed me and I cannot redo this night. Also, they take forever to give you back your damage deposit and when I told them about the issues, they did nothing for me but instead have been avoiding me, so here I am voicing my concerns. ‍ read more

This is stellar place to hold event parties. It is a stunning building and really well preserved. It was well organized from start to finish, excellent sound system and servers were well trained. Security was abundant and visible around the perimeter of the building which is really important in this part of downtown. My only gripe was the parking lot is very poorly lit at night with no visible security which is I think is inviting trouble. read more

ZERO STARS FROM ME. I had my Wedding here 9.23.2023 and I had the worst experience. The venue is Beautiful but the staff was the worst. Alma did not do her job as to what we discussed. The servers and busier I paid for were rude as hell and very disrespectful to my guest. The security this venue hired were harassing my guest the whole entire night. We had our reception and wedding both on the 10th floor. Security was not letting guest on the veranda(outside patio). Which is why I chose the place. I had a cigar bar which alma knew about and the security were telling guess they can not be outside and they could not smoke. I paid for coordinator and their was none. It was a shit show. Thank God for my DJ because if it was for him stepping up to different rolls it could have been worse. The Security were also stealing 24 packs of beer. Security were caught taking a cart full of 24 packs of beer. Their was one server who bumped my daughter over and never looked back to apologize. My son was stuck in the elevator for more than 30 mins having a whole panick attack. They let us know we had access to the whole kitchen which was not what happened. Alma was rude to my family and lied to us about what we could do and how she was going to be their for us. It's so sad that I had to worry about all of this on my wedding day. When I called alma she didn't answer my calls at all. She told my mother oh I'm not going to be here at all. I have a whole list of complaints about this venue I can honestly sit here for hours. I'm so upset I could never redo that day again and I honestly feel like if you want to have a wedding here because it's Beautiful DONT. I didn't get to enjoy my wedding like I wished because of the rude staff and no show of a coordinator which is the coordinator to this venue. Find somewhere else to have a wedding. If I could leave 0 stars I would first let me start off by the tour we got by Liz the main face of the business she was the one who gave us our tour and the one that sold us on the venue especially because it included 200 tables and chairs and if the top floor didn't have a event we were guaranteed that we would be able to use those 200 tables and chairs as well which was great because we had a big wedding. Mind you this place has a lot of hidden fees it started out at a great price and before we knew it, it was like what did we do! They charged us a additional 1,000 dollars to be able to use my family's restaurant for the bar and food and even tho my family added them to their insurance they still required us to pay additional $ to get our own insurance for the evening which was never discussed prior. Leading up to the few weeks before the wedding I started dealing with Amy (My day of coordinator) as she was introduced to me as which is not the case I never actually met in person was extremely rude not only to me but to my father as well. Love this building! We were on the top floor for a company party last weekend and it was absolutely beautiful. There was plenty of parking and security. When you get to the top floor there is a lobby that leads to the ballroom, ladies and men's room. The ladies room has a large powder room, a balcony and a separate bathroom with marble stales. The lobby had plenty of room for a photo booth, if you're wanting to get married here! There is also a large balcony and a stage in the ballroom. The walls and ceilings are gorgeous!! It's a large space, sitting for over 200, a small bar, appetizer and dessert tables, lounge area, dance space, and a space to serve dinner. The night view is awesome, you can see the whole city lite up! read more

I will never forget the look on my daughters face when we first visited the place, and it was the same look all of our guests had when they saw that spectacular place! The whole event went without a glitch and everyone at the Grand were easy, enjoyable and professional to work with. Some of our guests had a little too much to drink and were a bit of a challenge, but the staff was really classy about it and handled it very well. So, desperately, we called The Grand and Liz and Amy were at full attention and were there to handle our every need. They came through for us in a VERY big way. Liz and Amy were both professional, extremely knowledgeable, gracious and accommodating. They were cool, calm and collected under the tight time crunch--while I was a sweaty stress case coming frantically from the Holiday Inn. The venue was beautiful--sky-high ceilings, marble floors, a cozy mezzanine, and best of all, a great A/C! Liz was so wonderful, attentive and helpful, and we pulled off a great event! I needed more chairs and tables than they had in stock so she rented me some which took the burden or worry off of me. We had our New Year's Eve Wedding here and we were so happy with the outcome! Liz and Amy were amazing to work with along the way and Amy really helped me stay on track with planning and had great recommendations on many things, including vendors. When I was looking to plan my December wedding a year ago, I was shocked to find out that Fresno had such a beautiful ballroom that I had never heard of or seen before. This was the one and only place that we looked at for our reception because it was just too perfect! Liz is actually the one who got me talked into New Year's Eve and we couldn't be happier to have done that date. It did get a little stressful leading up since Christmas was only a week before, but if I had the chance I would do it over again in a heartbeat! The 1st floor ballroom needed barely any decoration due to the beautiful floor to ceiling taupe curtains, marble floor & columns, and the chandeliers. I loved how GRAND and tall the room was and that I could use my huge candelabras and 24in feathers coming out the top of that! (Most places in Fresno, my centerpieces would have almost touched the ceiling!) I think my favorite part about the Grand was that the wedding party was snuck up the back stairs and we got to look down over cocktail hour from the mezzanine and have champagne and h'ourderves. We got to take our entrance from the stairs in the ballroom and all of our guests were blown away and loved it! I couldn't say enough great things about the Grand, Amy, or Liz. We were so happy with the way that EVERYTHING turned out and a lot of that I owe to them with their help and recommendations.
